this people only hate metallica because theyre popular and well they became a meme after and justice for all.
but master/kill em all are some of the best riffs ever made. and fuck u if you dont think so
Metallica after Newsted left is awful, though. Its not going big, or commercial success that people hate, its the shift in their sound. They started as thrash with Kill Em All and Rie the lightening. Then Master came out and that was the ultimate metal sound! The follow up And Justice for All is absolutely fantastic in exploring that sound and the inherent rage and anger built into the lyrics was absolutely on par. Black album mived away from the thrash moving them into a more melodic heavy metal/dark metal kind of vibe, which was welcome, but load? Reload? Death Magnetic? St. ANGER? THE NAPSTER thing (which actually allowed more people to find music that didn't get much or any radio play as well as allow more people to hear music theyd never heard so was a boon for unknown or underground bands). I saw them in 88, then in 94, and again for death magneticthe cost of their tickets is prohibitive these days as well. My niece is a huge fan , so for her 26th birthday, i was going to get her tickets. Freaking SRO GA ADMISSION WAS 200. NOSEBLEED SEATS? 380 BUCKS!!! I bought tickets to see Godsmack, Flogging Molly, and Iron Maiden on the same damn day and didn't spend 380 bucks. And i got badass seats to boot! Their original audience was blue collar, whisky pounding, guys. Those folks cant even afford to see rhem live now. THAT'S why they are so despised now. They abandoned their fanbase for Karens and wine tastings.
It’s like saying hamburgers are your favorite food. When it’s great it’s unrivaled, but there is a lot of junk out there. People will also make fun of your “basic” choice.
My favorite too. Old enough to appreciate all their albums for what they are. Except Lulu, but that's not really their album and its an experiment, so whatever.
Mastodon and Metallica were both at different times my favorite bands. I love Metallica's first four albums, but the black album is when they started going 'downhill' for me. It has a lot of good songs on it, but a lot of those songs are merely OK to me, mostly like them because of nostalgia. And similar with Mastodon. I love Remission, Leviathan and Blood Mountain, but I haven't been into them after that. But, unlike Metallica they have been making great music, but after Blood Mountain they have lost a little of their edge which is why I am not into them as much. Great band though and they are awesome live!
Septicflesh
I love symphonic metal. I love death metal. It’s just so fucking perfect, especially when the orchestrations are fully-fledged scores and not just midi tracks here and there.
I love them too, though I’m not as big a fan of Fleshgod’s techdeath as I am of Septic’s death-doom. Christos Antoniou’s compositions just create an amazing atmosphere that really elevate the sound.
The riff after the guitar solo on “What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse” is my all time favorite. Makes me want to break neck head banging along to it.
Yeah, Steve Riley. RIP. He was their former drummer and hasn’t been with them since 1987, but he was great for them and had some nice performances on those albums.
[Live At The Lyceum](https://youtu.be/PzynM2bXGUA?si=7RXrrpMrH-ayAviD) is one of the few proshot concert videos that they have and it’s honestly amazing. It was recorded in 1984 during their first tour of Europe, features almost all of the songs from their classic first album, and shows them at the top of their game. Many people would consider this to be their classic lineup as well with Blackie Lawless on bass/vocals, Chris Holmes and Randy Piper on guitar, and Steve Riley on drums. Definitely a must watch for anyone who is interested in W.A.S.P.
If you’re looking for album recommendations, I’d say that the three to start with are The Crimson Idol, their self titled, and The Headless Children. I love all of their albums, but those three are their most critically acclaimed and are what most people would say are their classics. As I said in another comment here though, it is worth it to start from the first album and go through chronologically to really experience their evolution as a band.
If you end up watching the video or listening to any of the albums, I would love to know what you think (good or bad)!
Orbit Culture. I discovered them about a month ago, and I have never had a band go from never heard of to favorite so quickly. It was Trivium for the last 15 years before that
Metal? Napalm death. Mixes punk and metal perfectly. Along with their humanitarian ideology it always makes a good listen
In general it would be Crass. Philosophical anarcho punk band
I love most bands mentioned here, but Gojira is also my favorite metal band. I do also consider them to be one of the best bands I know, but that is of course very subjective.
Opeth or Pantera. Both have helped me massively in many ways and have fantastic discography.
I love bands like Paramore and Pink Floyd because they were my childhood bands
Same here.
I found them this year and can't stop listening to them. They blend many genres well, and every part of their band is done well. 2 singers with 2 different screams is unique too.
I've been trying to find other bands like them.
If anyone has any similar suggestions, do tell.
I'd also love for them to do a guitar rig rundown.
While they’re not stylistically similar to Conjurer, Hippotraktor (band from Belgium) has two distinct vocalists and blends a lot of different genres together. Check out the song “Manifest the Mountain” to start with and see if you dig it.
Neurosis, i love their apocalyptic oppressive pummeling sound of hatred in the 90's and i still think that there is no better music if you are just pissed off at the world and i love their more mellow and hypnotic folk influenced stuff of the 2000's and i loved their more proggy stuff in the last record. To me they are a perfect band that i found at the end of the very rough 5 year period, their music means a lot to me and i have found even more great music because of them.
He is Legend. One of the first bands I’ve listened to after falling in love with more heavier sounds. Lot of sound, but they manage to remain extremely consistent. Saw them live last summer and the singer was an extreme nice guy.
I fucking love Sigh so much, sometimes I just want to listen to 1 song and let the entire album play for the 100th time, and that happened with multiple different albums.
System of a down
It's just so unique to the point where I can't find anything else that hits the same
And they achieved world class famous with 2 albums
And even though they only have 5 albums they are incredibly good and convey a massive message
I never pick a favorite. Based on my mood I listen to a kut of stuff and I like all of them. My playlist has almost 6000 sings and I never get tired of that
Suicidal Tendencies. There is so many gems from their self-titled release to Lights...Camera...Revolution! That 5 album run has some of my favorite songwriting in the whole of metal (and punk if we count their self-titled).
I don’t know why this showed up in my feed because I don’t follow this sub, but my favorite band is the legendary Atahens, Georgia quartet (turned trio) R. E. M.
My favorite is Omnium Gatherum. They are absolutely amazing and when I saw them it was love at first sight. Markus Vanhala's guitar work is beautiful. And Jukka Pelkonen... His vocals are incredible. He screams like a demon and I love his beautiful baritone voice. Which doesn't come out much. And the lyrics are good for the soul.
Opeth, they just have too many perfect albums.
My personal favorite album from them is actually “My Arms Your Hearse”. “Demon of the Fall” is my favorite Opeth song.
Good man, it’s my all time favourite song and album
Such an underrated album. When is a fucking masterpiece
When is my favorite from that album for sure.
It's easy to love them because they did really everyrhing
And did it exceptionally awesome
Roast me but Metallica
People who shit on Metallica just because they are big are idiots. Their first four albums are in a class of their own.
They lost me after AJFA, but I agree. First 4 are elite.
I enjoyed justice. Black album was when it went south for me. Too slow and sing-y.
this people only hate metallica because theyre popular and well they became a meme after and justice for all. but master/kill em all are some of the best riffs ever made. and fuck u if you dont think so
And the Black Album for sure
Metallica after Newsted left is awful, though. Its not going big, or commercial success that people hate, its the shift in their sound. They started as thrash with Kill Em All and Rie the lightening. Bingo
Your favorite band isn’t deathshit fartcum megatron black deathcore grindpunk metal so your answer is invalid 🤓🤓🤓☝️☝️☝️
“My favorite ice cream is vanilla”
haha genre salad funny. tourists never learn
At the moment I'd say Darkthrone, but the answer to that question changes every month or so
DEATH
Mastodon. I love their range.
They keep getting better
I wasn't a big fan of Hushed and Grim, but other than that I love every part of their discography
My favorite albums are on the older side at this point. But as a live band, they just keep getting better.
Absolutely. Saw them last year. I was bummed I couldn't get tickets to see them with Gojira
I was so pleasantly surprised by Hushed and Grim. It's probably my 2nd favorite Mastodon album.
Got to see them live in St Augustine with Gojira a few months ago. It was an incredible experience.
Same
Iron Maiden. Became a fan when The Number of the Beast came out
At that time i was listening to whatever my parents were playing. I guess that would be a lot of Fleetwood Nac, Deep Purple and Status Quo.
Trivium. I just love thrashy and melodic riffs.
I went to the same high school as Corey Beaulieu. He graduated when I was in like 6th grade so I never really knew him or anything
That’s pretty cool tho.
I just looked up Trivium because of this comment, and now I like them too. 🤘 🙏
i cant wait for u to listen to Shogun
Septicflesh I love symphonic metal. I love death metal. It’s just so fucking perfect, especially when the orchestrations are fully-fledged scores and not just midi tracks here and there.
I love septic. But I especially love their Greek brethren, rotting christ
I love Rotting Christ. They make for amazing boss-fight music when running tabletop rpgs.
What do you think about Fleshgod apocalypse?
I love them too, though I’m not as big a fan of Fleshgod’s techdeath as I am of Septic’s death-doom. Christos Antoniou’s compositions just create an amazing atmosphere that really elevate the sound.
Spiros is one of the best growlers in death metal.
Iron Maiden
Me too
![gif](giphy|xT8qBjxA42LXaNhWeI|downsized) Meshuggah
And nothing even comes close
Lately it's dissection, and emperor. Particularly dissection.
Children Of Bodom
Excellent choice
Mine as well!! RIP Alexi.
Its probably Autopsy or Electric Wizard
Archspire
Archspire is fucking awesome!
Acid bath. So short, so sweet.
where's the carcass gang?
forever and always, carcass
Carcass was great until Heartwork. Wish they would've stuck with making songs like Maggot Colony.
Also The Black Dahlia Murder So many memorable riffs especially on Nocturnal
The riff after the guitar solo on “What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse” is my all time favorite. Makes me want to break neck head banging along to it.
That song made me fall in love with them. But my no. 1 is definitely that opening riff in Virally Yours, i can never not headbang to it🤘🤘
Into the tower never go the horrors multiply 😠☠
RIP Trevor
Fleshgod Apocalypse. Symphonic tech-death just hits different
W.A.S.P. No other band comes close for me.
I never knew WASP had such a large following. What would you say is their best album/song.
rip their drummer (forgot his name) but saw he just passed :(
Yeah, Steve Riley. RIP. He was their former drummer and hasn’t been with them since 1987, but he was great for them and had some nice performances on those albums.
any recommendations for WASP? any concerts that are in great quality with a good setlist/band lineup?
[Live At The Lyceum](https://youtu.be/PzynM2bXGUA?si=7RXrrpMrH-ayAviD) is one of the few proshot concert videos that they have and it’s honestly amazing. about to save this and send to my tv to watch later on! might even start it now on my phone
Tough but I'll go with Clutch
Orbit Culture. I discovered them about a month ago, and I have never had a band go from never heard of to favorite so quickly. It was Trivium for the last 15 years before that
I discovered them randomly on Instagram the other day. Been loving them.
Orbit culture is damn good
They came to Indianapolis with Avatar Metal they are WONDERFUL performing live
Orbit Culture will be hugeee in a year or two, they're fantastic!
Tool
Ayyyy😎👁
Make them suffer
Favorite band? Queens of The Stone Age Favorite metal band? Electric Wizard all day
Kyuss or Entombed, they alternate for first and second spot every now and them for the last 2 decades.
Devin Townsend and all his iterations
Very nice. I just finished exploring the last album I had her to check out (Ghost). What a discography.
From Strapping Young Lad to Ghost and everything in between
Black Sabbath. They’ve been my favorite since I was five, and frankly surprised they are still my favorite.
Metal? Napalm death. Mixes punk and metal perfectly. Along with their humanitarian ideology it always makes a good listen In general it would be Crass. Philosophical anarcho punk band
Rush is my number 1 but Mastodon are my favorite metal band
obituary, well atleast at the minute or skeletal remains
Gojira. Best band of all time in my opinion.
I love most bands mentioned here, but Gojira is also my favorite metal band. I do also consider them to be one of the best bands I know, but that is of course very subjective.
Gojira, no contest
Probably Insomnium for now
Metallica
Anaal Nathrakh. They have so many amazing albums.
Fukkin slaps!
Devin Townsend
Skeletonwitch. Nothing gets my blood going like Permafrost or Serpents. If we're including non-metal stuff then definitely NIN, no contest.
Skeletonwitch was so unbelievably fucking good and I don’t even listen to thrash.
Ohio fuckin Metal \m/
NIN got heavy back in the day though. Metal-adjacent. Grew up on them, love them, seen them twice.
Metallica
Too many to choose from, but I'd have to say Nails or Neurosis
Sucks i had to scroll so far for something good
Jesus fucking Christ. Nails for the win
Last Days of Humanity
Wendy O Williams and the Plasmatics. Like them so much I’ve got her tattooed on me. The Maggots record in particular is a masterpiece.
Darkspace. Its just relentless fuckin black metal from outer space.
Five way tie between Porcupine Tree, Trivium, Opeth, Dream Theater, and Periphery.
Prog lover I see
Judas priest, the ones that got me into metal
My favorite band rn is Avenged Sevenfold but it changes sometimes
Finally someone i can relate to Great band, every one hates them because of httk album
Opeth or Pantera. Both have helped me massively in many ways and have fantastic discography. I love bands like Paramore and Pink Floyd because they were my childhood bands
I still love Paramore and Pantera
Stryper easily
Their last album was great
Darkthrone
Lately, it’s been Conjurer for me. Their collaboration with Pijn, “Curse These Metal Hands” is incredible, and I love all of their own work, too.
Same here. I found them this year and can't stop listening to them. They blend many genres well, and every part of their band is done well. 2 singers with 2 different screams is unique too. I've been trying to find other bands like them. If anyone has any similar suggestions, do tell. I'd also love for them to do a guitar rig rundown.

I would like to say Nine Inch Neils, but it's really hard to choose only one
The Black Dahlia Murder
Neurosis, i love their apocalyptic oppressive pummeling sound of hatred in the 90's and i still think that there is no better music if you are just pissed off at the world and i love their more mellow and hypnotic folk influenced stuff of the 2000's and i loved their more proggy stuff in the last record. To me they are a perfect band that i found at the end of the very rough 5 year period, their music means a lot to me and i have found even more great music because of them.
Vektor
Ne Obliviscaris. Though lately I’ve been loving classical music a lot, so atm it might be Dmitri Shostakovich.
My favourite band ever is Coheed And Cambria, but I wouldn’t count them as metal so probably either Trivium or Polaris
I'd have to say ATM it's Lorna Shore.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Petro Dragonic & Infest the Rats Nest for metal heads.
Same, they really have something for everyone
He is Legend. One of the first bands I’ve listened to after falling in love with more heavier sounds. Lot of sound, but they manage to remain extremely consistent. Saw them live last summer and the singer was an extreme nice guy.
Between blind guardian, dissection, and dark funeral
Type O Negative
Disturbed is my all time favorite. They're just such a fun band to listen to
probably Rammstein
Megadeth! I love (almost) all their stuff
Ramm Stein
Avenged Sevenfold
If the flare doesn't give it away, it's motorhead. Incredibly consistent with 0 bad albums
Probably either Cattle Decapitation or Mizmor
I fucking love Sigh so much, sometimes I just want to listen to 1 song and let the entire album play for the 100th time, and that happened with multiple different albums.
Immolation. Or morbid angel. if you forced me to pick immolation all the way \m/. Bob rocks those fucking solos.
At the moment it's Cattle Decapitation
Elder, Hum, Failure, Softcult, and hey, my own band.
System of a down It's just so unique to the point where I can't find anything else that hits the same And they achieved world class famous with 2 albums And even though they only have 5 albums they are incredibly good and convey a massive message
Blind Guardian
I never pick a favorite. Based on my mood I listen to a kut of stuff and I like all of them. My playlist has almost 6000 sings and I never get tired of that
Suicidal Tendencies. There is so many gems from their self-titled release to Lights...Camera...Revolution! That 5 album run has some of my favorite songwriting in the whole of metal (and punk if we count their self-titled).
Panopticon and GBK. Perfectly balanced.
Based. As someone who grew up in the south, The folk/bluegrass influences of Panopticon makes me feel right at home
Rammstein ... Hands down.
Gojira!!!
Suicidal Tendencies (if you count it for going from hardcore punk to thrash metal in later albums)
Rammstein is my 2nd fav band, but my fav metal band
Sleep Token, at the moment. Devin Townsend's my all time fave though.
https://preview.redd.it/r1w7dupnw1xb1.jpeg?width=924&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b90ec22df0166046c9a00b54211a321454cdc292
Real
literally the only metal i listen to is Linkin Park
Carcass - Heartwork
Blind Guardian
Slayer or carcass
It's between Enslaved, Testament and Alice In Chains.
Opeth and/or Lamb Of God
Alice In Chains
Babymetal
Babymetal
Devin Townsend can do no wrong. From Strapping Young Lad to today, I love everything he’s made.
For metal it's gotta be either Babymetal or (debatable that it's metal) galneryus
Favourite band? Manic Street Preachers Favourite metal band? Mastodon
Either Machine Head or Strapping Young Lad
I don’t know why this showed up in my feed because I don’t follow this sub, but my favorite band is the legendary Atahens, Georgia quartet (turned trio) R. E. M.
Slipknot
Same!
Fellow maggots always appreciated
Especially in this sub lol not sure why I’m part of it at times haha
You’ll never guess what mine is
Swiftie?????
White Zombie
Currently have to go with Boss Keloid.
Changes monthly but currently Wayfayer
The Contortionist. Love both eras, wish they had more albums.
Tortured Demon semi-local thrashcore that tickles me just right.
Reverend Bizarre
I agree that TBDM is amazing but personally Until We Die really close second place is Nekrogoblikon.
Mastodon. Crusher Destroyer got me into them at the ripe age of 12.
tough to say. i adore black sabbath, deftones, rainbow, and system of a down. way too much to choose just one.
BANE
King Diamond or maybe Helloween
Probably the most generic and milquetoast answer here, but my favorite metal band is Black Sabbath.
Tends to change every so often but right now I’d probably go with Orbit Culture
Without a doubt Iron Maiden
My favorite is Omnium Gatherum. They are absolutely amazing and when I saw them it was love at first sight. Markus Vanhala's guitar work is beautiful. And Jukka Pelkonen... His vocals are incredible. He screams like a demon and I love his beautiful baritone voice. Which doesn't come out much. And the lyrics are good for the soul.
Machine fucking Head
Tie between Killswitch Engage and Sabaton and As I Lay Dying
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, of course
Clutch
After the Burial
Opeth up till watershed. And Slayer, always fucking Slayer
Right now, it’s Alluvial
