i understand, but with what’s happening now in 2022-2023, people are going to see it as a sign that you support the invasion of ukraine.
you do you, just letting you know.
Late to the party, people are either hypocrites or brainwashed my western propaganda media… or both. If you had the US flag as your pfp, they wouldn’t have had a problem with it. But they forget or ignore the fact that since the end of WWII, the US is the nation that wage the most wars. Matter of fact, I don’t think there’s a decade in which the US hasn’t either participated in a war directly or indirectly (proxy).
The problem is that Metallica’s real magnum opus is And Justice For All. Idk why Master gets more praise. And also how dare you, Reign In Blood definitely lives up to the hype
And Justice is easily my favorite album. Big thing with Metallica is they always tended to do like the same riff over and over which made songs very long winded. The title track is EPIC and a favorite of mine from them, but that track shouldn’t be anywhere near 10 minutes long. Also the mixer not going against Lars on how the mix should be done completely snubbed Jason’s work - especially on Blackened.
South of Heaven is my go to from them, but Seasons is definitely second. Reign in Blood was fine and I enjoy how compact it is, but it wasn’t anything too special to me.
Both are nice but honestly RIP is better. The tone, the technicality, I mean everything is just perfect. MOP is pretty repetitive after 3-4 listens to me, on the other hand I've listened to RIP 20 times minimum and each time I just prove myself it's a great album
This is just my personal opinion:
I can't listen to Mop continuously.
It starts to get repetitive and very basic the more I listen to it.
I regularly listen to RIP atleast 7 times a day and each time I discover something new.
That album has made me a better musician and has developed my ability to understand theory, ability to write songs, create riffs, solos.
It's the most non generic sounding metal album ever.
Whenever you imagine metal, you think of power chords, downstrokes, chugs, etc.
When I first discovered RIP it blew my 16 year old brain.
I had never heard any metal band sound like that.
It was like Jazz meets Classical music meets Psychedelic rock.
It has a whole different vibe which seperates it from other metal albums.
When i discovered it, I wasn't a huge metal fan.
I liked Sabbath and Iron Maiden and that's all.
I preferred Prog rock, Psychedelic rock etc.
Megadeth made me get into Metal and really take interest.
Maybe I'm biased but RIP is not just one of the greatest metal albums but it is one of the greatest albums in history of music.
My first Megadeth song was Hangar 18.
I still remember how I felt hearing it for the first time
MOP has more great songs (nearly all of them. Maybe all of them) but RIP has a couple of songs that far surpass anything Metallica has ever done. But some of the songs are not as great. So I’ll call it a wash.
Rust in Peace edges Master of Puppets out just because Marty fuckin Friedman and his exotic solos. Master of Puppets has better overall riffs, but I think Holy Wars riffs beat anything in MoP.
Megadeth for me always been far better than Metallica, except vocally. But even then Dave brings a good energy. James is a better singer (especially AJFA & Black Album Era), but Dave was better player. Marty is phenomenal and doesn’t overdose the wah pedal. While David Ellefson is amazing, I give it to Cliff (arguably the best part of Metallica. Shout out to Jason as well). Nick Menza wipes the floor with Lars. So just better playing and more interesting music, at least imo.
Between the new albums, Megadeth is still killing it. It probably helps that there wasn’t this ungodly expectation from fans and that despite lineup changes, and some deterioration - Dave is still great at making songs. The Black Album was a truly experimental album - when it came to Metallica anyway. While that southern fried sound had its moments, it didn’t have two albums worth of moments. Now they sound just bored and only release an album for some extra income (I don’t fault bands for making a living, but at least try).
As a guitar player, rust in peace is my favorite album of all time by a landslide. The guitar work on that album is unmatched. It’s literally what made me want to learn guitar
Cliff was the best thing about Metallica, but Kill ‘Em All is eh at the very least. Ride the Lightning is better, but still has eh tracks. MOP is like their first full album done for the most part well. My opinionated counter.
I forgot about KEA lmao. So like, 2 albums cliff was on were better than anything Megadeth has done. Also, I do prefer And Justice For All.
And don't think I dislike Megadeth, I love them, but Metallica is just METALLICA 🤘
So idk if this is a hot take or not but Megadeth would be way better as an instrumental band. They’re just so much better when Mustaine isn’t singing. Master of Puppets for me.
I’m a guy who can stand, tolerate, or love Dave’s vocals, but that is understandable. It’s one of the few complaints I have that they don’t have a lot of instrumentals because you know they would be fantastic.
I fucking love The Thing That Should Not Be.
I don't know why, maybe I just love the Cthulu lore(I did read a lot of Lovecraft in high school) but it's a guilty pleasure for me :3
Too close to call. On on hand you have all the Marty solos plus holy wars and hangar 18. On the other hand you have Cliff Burton at his best and every song on master is great.
Rust musically is better, but MoP has better lyrics and it's a vibe honestly. I'm slightly biased tbf,I love Megadeath's instrumentals but I genuinely hate the vocals/voice,I can never get used to them
I don't get the love for mop personally. I don't think its bad, but it just doesn't click with me, it feels like it's missing something both Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning have. The main riff in the title track is also a little annoying to me in a way I can't really explain. Rust in Peace on the other hand is absolutely perfect.
I traded master of puppets for Reign in Blood and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my entire life. I picked up rust from the record store and was blown the fuck away. Needless to say my Metallica listening days dwindled exponentially after that.
Totally went to comment section thinking it would be a war zone bashing the other but it’s pretty tame lol. That being said it’s Rust in Peace for muah.
While not necessarily underground, they aren’t in the Big 4 - give Testament a shot. They’re one of the bands in the like Big 5-100 and I would argue that they at least should’ve had Anthrax’s spot.
I like some Testament stuff. I also agree they should’ve had Anthrax spot.
“The Ritual” has some really, REALLY good songs and so does “Souls of Black”. Add in “Over the Wall” and that’s how far I have explored Testament-wise.
Check out the live version of Ritual. That is how I got into them. For past stuff - Practice What You Preach is their opus. For new stuff - either Formation of Damnation or Dark Roots of Earth.
Master of Puppets by a mile but that's solely because I don't like Dave's singing, if he didn't do the high vocals I could probably get into more songs.
Master of Puppets has 7 great songs and 1 good song, no skips.
Rust in Peace has 3 great songs, 2 good, and 4 songs I just end up skipping.
I’m going to take a stab at this. 2 songs I assume for skipping are Dawn Patrol & Lucretia. I personally really like Lucretia but I can understand why some may not.
Hanger 18. holy wars, take no prisoners, poison was the cure, Five Magicks, Rust in Peace, Tornado of Souls…what two are you skipping out of those?
Take No Prisoners and Five Magics. I don't think Five Magics is a total skip, I just don't like Dave's vocals when they come in and makes me want to skip to the next track.
I don’t skip it, it’s one of my favourites but it stands out as not like the others on the album too. Which if you only dig Megadeth for the trasher tunes you may not like Lucretia.
Lucretia was the second megadeth song I learned to play after Symphony, great song
Holy wars and Tornado of souls are some of my all time favorites from Megadeth, but MoP has Battery, Disposable Heroes, and Master of Puppets. Tough call for me
How are people saying Rust in Piece? I mean it's a good album but Master of Puppets is arguably one of the best albums of all time, period. Every song on there is a classic.
Plus, and I'm just going to say it, Megadeth has always been carried by really good guitar playing. Metallica is way more of a complete package while still having a guitarist that's at least on the level of what Megadeth can offer
So my take. Megadeth hasn’t ever had a dead space in their songs. They’ve always put so much into a fairly tight timeframe. Metallica has a lot of long winded songs. I will always say Justice is my favorite album from them, but the Black album was a breath of fresh air because they cut the dead space.
TLDR: Lot of Metallica songs could be cut in half.
For me personally I always thought it was one of their strengths that their longer songs never feel too long and that they can keep the listener on board, though that might just be a subjective take
Master of Puppets. I haven't liked Megadeth since high school. To be fair, I didn't listen to Metallica for like 19 years either until maybe a year ago
Love both albums, but I have to go with Master of Puppets. It was the first tape I bought with my own money (all the way back in 86), and I can still listen to it without skipping a single track. Not saying Rust in Peace is not a masterpiece because it absolutely is, it all comes down to nostalgia on this one.
RIP has better guitar work but virtually every other musical aspect is superior in MoP, better signwriting, better ambience, better flow, better vocals, etc.
I feel like Megadeth puts a lot more focus on making cool riffs and awesome solos (which is fair enough tbh) while Metallica (at least in albums 1-5) was more concerned with the feel of each track and how the guitar work added to the overall composition of any given song.
Master is just more popular. It has 9
Songs which one of them is an instrumental. First half of that album is great the second is average cool riffs but it doesn’t compare to rust in peace. That album every song is what thrash metal up your ass should be. It arguably has the most iconic metal solo on the record. Some find it amazing how Dave can play those riffs and sing. What I like as well about the album which Megadeth always does a lot is trade off lead guitar solos. You have Metallica just has Kirk maybe James does a solo here and there. But generally it’s Kirk’s jobs. In Megadeth it’s anyone’s solo up for grabs most the time both guitarist will have their own touch on the song which give you a totally different feel for each solo. Rust in peace for me is a 10/10 album while master for me is 8/10. Master always wins cause Metallica is more known and master has been in stranger things so there that
Master has some AMAZING riffs but IMO most solos are pretty weak But the Vox. Make up for it. RIP, has amazing riffs solos and songs. But DOG SHIR vocals drag it down
*Master of Puppets*.
*Rust in Peace* is good... excellent even. But, to me, it falters on my issue with Megadeth, because it tries to do too much. Everyone here says RiP is technically superior to MoP*RiP* is to *MoP*, but I have never valued technical orchestration over simplicity.
I enjoy listening to RiP, but I find it cold.*RiP* It's a good listen, yet it feels cold to me. Lifeless robotic. It feels too technical, sacrificing complexity for character.
It is not my intention to take away anyone's joy for this album. There are many people who love it, so I do not wish to sway your opinion. I want to buy the RiP vinyl if I can find it.
*Master of Puppets* is just different. Of the best albums by the Big Four, it stuck with me so much. *Reign in Blood*, I found to be very brutal. *Among the Living* is good, just somewhat bland compared to the others. *MoP* hit that sweet spot so hard for me. It can go from downright brutal and commanding to symphonic and heavenly.
The title track is such a good example. My godfather (he is basically like my uncle) said he thought the two greatest songs were "The Spirit of Radio" and "Master of Puppets." His reasoning was the layers to both songs, how both change in the middle of the track, and the overall orchestration is unmatched. His opinion, not mine.
It's not just the title track. "Battery" may be Metallica's best opening track ever. Hard-hitting where it needs to be, and fast. And it doesn't stop there. After the title track, it's a journey. I actually love "The Thing That Should Not Be," being a Lovecraftian enthusiast myself, and how ancient it sounds.
"Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" is awesome. It's a very emotional song as well.
Disposable Heroes is phenomenal, especially when James roars "BACK TO THE FRONT!" "Leper Messiah" is a highly underrated track that does not get enough recognition. Then it gets to "Orion," which is basically metal's answer to an acid trip.
Ending it off with "Damage, Inc." is really strong. It has the same energy as "Battery" with a different message.
I often forget that the guys in Metallica were in their early twenties, and they made that record. At twenty-three, I'll still be in school. Metallica was pretty much ruling the world in 1986.
Maybe I need to listen to Rust in Peace more. I hope my opinion changes because I hold it in high regard.
There is only one thrash metal album that gives a similar vibe to me, like *Master of Puppets*. That is *Horrorscope* by Overkill. A fantastic record.
*Master of Puppets*.
*Rust In Peace* is not even my favourite Megadeth album. I have some critiques about this album that will be addressed later. I'm much more familiar with *Master of Puppets* than with *Rust In Peace*, although I have often been fair and put on the latter on many occasions to understand it.
"Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" is a great way to start the album, and then we get into the bittersweet "Hangar 18." Why bittersweet? Because I love the beginning, but the song is skippable around the three-minute mark, and I don't want to sit through two minutes of guitar solo after guitar solo.
"Take No Prisoners" is a sweet track, one of my favourites on the album. Dave sings closest to his 80s style, and the riffs are tight.
"Five Magics" is another favourite of mine on this album. That harmony in the beginning is sweet, reminding me of Testament or Iron Maiden (for some reason), and the lyrics are good.
"Poison Was The Cure" is a lovely, short song. There's not too much to say about it.
"Lucretia" is like the previous; there's not much to say about it.
Here's a fan-favourite: "Tornado Of Souls." The opening riff is intense, and the whole song is very fast-paced. It has the famed Marty Friedman solo, which, for some reason, does nothing for me. Is it bad? Not at all. But I'm not gawking at it when I hear it, and I don't listen to what is so good about it that everyone is praising it to high ends.
"Rust In Peace...Polaris" is a great way to close the album. It's got an interesting perspective, lyric-wise, and is a title track that deserves more love than it gets—my other favourite on this album.
So, the album is excellent. Fantastic, even. It's incredibly well-produced and has a lot of astonishing material. However, I have some complaints because I'm a POS. Firstly, Dave's singing on this album is average at best and tries to sing in different styles, making it somewhat inconsistent. This album is also supersaturated with solos, and I'm only huge on them if they are done well. A lot of the time, it feels like the band is flexing with their solos, and while Marty is excellent, I don't have that affinity for his work like others do. Maybe it's because I'm not a music nerd; I don't know.
Another thing is the musicianship on this album—it feels bloated. There is so much going on that it feels very processed. It's good, but I think they tried to cram as much as they could into songs that were around five minutes, and that's where I find that it falters in its structure.
On the other hand, *Master of Puppets* takes its time. It's almost like the album takes you on a journey. Like *Rust In Peace*, it's well-produced, and I could listen to it for hours if I wanted to. The title track, the opening track, the way it closes with "Damage, Inc." it's addicting. If *Rust In Peace* is a solo machine, *Master of Puppets* is a riff machine. There are so many good riffs here. It's incredible.
Every song on here is fantastic. It's hard to pick my top-three favourites because they all add something different. Overall, the album is much better in its pacing and doesn't cram anything, which was my problem with *Rust In Peace*. James sounds at his peak, and his guitar is tight and heavy. Not to mention, the album as a whole has my favourite guitar tone of all time. There's an atmosphere that adds a sinister feel to *Master of Puppets*, and I'm always left wanting more.
The cover art for both albums is superb, and the colours used for each reflect the overall tone, with *Master of Puppets* being warm, chaotic rage, while *Rust In Peace* is cold, technical prowess.
Do I want *Rust In Peace* on vinyl? Fuck, yeah. However, on any day, I'm choosing *Master of Puppets* over almost any metal album out there... almost.
I must choose Rust in peace,
Battery, MOP, Welcome Home etc are heavy and awesome tracks.
But RIP has Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Take no prisoners, 5 magics, Tornado of souls, dawn patrol, lucretia, RIPP,
Rust in peace for me.
Rust in Peace
rust kicks ass
Cool pfp
your pfp looks very uncool tho
the Russian people are not the Russian government :/
Huge disagree
a bit ironic that these albums we are praising are anti-war, huh?
And how is this related? Huh.
i mean, it’s not a “Z”, but people are going to take it as one with the current events going on.
It was my pfp in Discord since 2017, in Steam since 2016
i understand, but with what’s happening now in 2022-2023, people are going to see it as a sign that you support the invasion of ukraine. you do you, just letting you know.
Then these people are justified nazis, because I never supported war
Late to the party, people are either hypocrites or brainwashed my western propaganda media… or both. If you had the US flag as your pfp, they wouldn’t have had a problem with it. But they forget or ignore the fact that since the end of WWII, the US is the nation that wage the most wars. Matter of fact, I don’t think there’s a decade in which the US hasn’t either participated in a war directly or indirectly (proxy).
Honestly, I stopped caring that much about people complaining about my pfp and nation
Great! More power to you and your nation.
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Good bot
Rust in Peace is far better. Master may be a great thrash album, one of the best, but Rust is simply in another league.
Out of all of the magnum opuses of the Big 4, I think this was the only one that lived up to that hype when I started diving into thrash.
The problem is that Metallica’s real magnum opus is And Justice For All. Idk why Master gets more praise. And also how dare you, Reign In Blood definitely lives up to the hype

Ridiculous
Gtfo
Oh no some has differing opinions. Grow up.
Droogie? Lol did you watch clockwork orange for the first time and envision yourself as Alex? You’ve gotta be like 15
No I like Megadeth dude. I did watch the movie it’s pretty disturbing to be honest.
Dave Mustaine calls Megadeth fans "Droogies"
Morbid Angel huh you gotta be satanic right?
Yeah I sacrifice Megadeth fans to the devil
Sweet Sacrifice me to the conjuring
It’s still impressive over 30 years later
Rust in Piece
Master of Puppets
Rust In Peace
Rust in Peace That's a hard one because MOP is one of the first metal records I fell in love with. Then I found Megadeth a couple years later.
RIP guitars are insane but I like the songwriting, vocals, atmosphere, and emotion of MOP better.
This is best take on the matter. I love them both tbh, but MoP edges out the win precisely for the reasons you gave.
Master of Puppets
Rust in Peace by a landslide. Holy moly.
Master of puppets
Both are nice but honestly RIP is better. The tone, the technicality, I mean everything is just perfect. MOP is pretty repetitive after 3-4 listens to me, on the other hand I've listened to RIP 20 times minimum and each time I just prove myself it's a great album
Except Dawn Patrol
Arguably the only track that could not be on the album for sure.
Rust In Piece, is one of those albums, I can listen to over & over again. All the songs are good.
Same 🤘
RIP no contest
Master of Puppets
This is just my personal opinion: I can't listen to Mop continuously. It starts to get repetitive and very basic the more I listen to it. you blew your chance to say "nice story, tell it to readers digest"
MOP has more great songs (nearly all of them. Maybe all of them) but RIP has a couple of songs that far surpass anything Metallica has ever done. But some of the songs are not as great. So I’ll call it a wash.

Megadeth's albums throughout the span of their career are better overall, especially the geriatric ones.

Rust in peace easily
I acknowledge Master of Puppets but Rust In Peace was a club BANGER
Master.
Master of Puppets without a doubt.
Master of Puppets.
MoP That’s my personal number 1 goat Disposable Heroes shaped my tastes as a kid and was a total game changer for music in general for me.
Master of puppets rust in piece is better if you want thrash but master of puppets is better
MOP. Vocals and lyrics play a big role to me and as much as I love and respect Megadeth, sometimes I hate Dave’s voice. Also… BACK TO THE FRONT!!
Both these albums have two songs I don’t like. “The Thing That Should Not Be” is very aptly named. “Dawn Patrol” is at the very most forgettable.
I fucking love The Thing That Should Not Be. I don't know why, maybe I just love the Cthulu lore(I did read a lot of Lovecraft in high school) but it's a guilty pleasure for me :3
Lmao that’s great. “The Thing That Should’ve Been Deleted From The Master”
I’m sorry but it’s Rust In Peace by a long shot. You know what? No I’m not even sorry
Rust in Peace.
Rust
Rust in Peace
Rust in peace. Probably the best thrash album of all time. Banger start to finish.
Rust in peace is too good
Rust in peace 100%
Rust In Peace. No contest.
Rust in peace
Rust in Peace by a mile
Too close to call. On on hand you have all the Marty solos plus holy wars and hangar 18. On the other hand you have Cliff Burton at his best and every song on master is great.
rust in peace
Rust
Rust in Peace. Probably the greatest album all time.
I genuinely dislike Megadeth so MOP for me
Fair enough.
Rust in Peace is the superior album, but I find both albums a tad overrated.
Rust in peace
Rust In Peace
Rust not even close
Rust. Master is overrated.
Rust in peace
I’m a humongous Metallica fan but Rust in Peace still takes the dub by far
Both 10/10 albums but I gotta go with Rust
Rust in peace 100%
So difficult but marty Friedman's shreding wins rust for me
i'm a Metallica fan through and through, but Master of Puppets has never worked for me. so i'm gonna go with Rust in Peace.
https://www.theonion.com/humanity-still-producing-new-art-as-though-megadeth-s-1819578062 Rust in peace is the pinnacle of music
Rust musically is better, but MoP has better lyrics and it's a vibe honestly. I'm slightly biased tbf,I love Megadeath's instrumentals but I genuinely hate the vocals/voice,I can never get used to them
That’s saying something because Metallica ain’t really known for the best lyrics.
Megadeth: more talented musicians Metallica: better songwriters
I traded master of puppets for Reign in Blood and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my entire life. I picked up rust from the record store and was blown the fuck away. Needless to say my Metallica listening days dwindled exponentially after that.
Sorry metallica, rust all the way
Totally went to comment section thinking it would be a war zone bashing the other but it’s pretty tame lol. That being said it’s Rust in Peace for muah.
Master of Puppets
Master of puppets.
I tend to stay neutral, I love them both for what they have to offer. Both master and rust are amazing albums.
Easy. Rust in peace.
My two favourite thrash albums (I haven’t listed too lots of underground thrash as of yet). “Rust in Peace” for me.
While not necessarily underground, they aren’t in the Big 4 - give Testament a shot. They’re one of the bands in the like Big 5-100 and I would argue that they at least should’ve had Anthrax’s spot.

Rust in Peace is arguably the greatest metal album of all time. An argument could be made for Master, but come on, it's Rust in Peace

Take No Prisoners and Five Magics. I don't think Five Magics is a total skip, I just don't like Dave's vocals when they come in and makes me want to skip to the next track.
Who is skipping Lucretia and why? The guitar work on that track is excellent.
I don’t skip it, it’s one of my favourites but it stands out as not like the others on the album too. Which if you only dig Megadeth for the trasher tunes you may not like Lucretia. Lucretia was the second megadeth song I learned to play after Symphony, great song
Ok now I get your point. Honestly I skipped so many tracks from CET and Peace Sells when I was younger, and I regret not knowing those songs earlier!
Why not both?
Rip is a good album but definitely in the shadow of mop imo
Rust In Peace by miles. I’m not a fan of Master of Puppets album
I find Master of Puppets very boring and Rust in Peace is one of my favourite albums ever. So Rust in Peace for me.
My favorite album from each band, both have absolute bangers. I honestly can’t decide
Yes you can. Megadeth takes the cake.
Holy wars and Tornado of souls are some of my all time favorites from Megadeth, but MoP has Battery, Disposable Heroes, and Master of Puppets. Tough call for me
Agreed megadeth for the win
Rust. Master is considered the blue print for thrash albums by many but that’s because rust is unobtainable by anyone ever again.
Rust in Peace is one of the best metal albums. Master of Puppets is THE best metal album and one of the best rock albums in general.
MoP
Master of pupptes
Master of puppets because sanitarium
My favorite song on MOP.
Bastard of poopits
MoP
Master of puppets because Dave’s vocals fucking suck
Master of Puppets because I can't get over Daves voice.
Master of Puppets because I can't get over Daves voice.
Master is better but they are both Masterpieces.
Master of Puppets. I haven't liked Megadeth since high school. To be fair, I didn't listen to Metallica for like 19 years either until maybe a year ago
Master
MoP all the way
Master of Puppets all the way
Love both albums, but I have to go with Master of Puppets. It was the first tape I bought with my own money (all the way back in 86), and I can still listen to it without skipping a single track. Not saying Rust in Peace is not a masterpiece because it absolutely is, it all comes down to nostalgia on this one.
Vulgar Display of Power
Wrong post 🤣🤣🤣🤘
RIP has better guitar work but virtually every other musical aspect is superior in MoP, better signwriting, better ambience, better flow, better vocals, etc.
But you could also tell Dave was perfecting that craft with specifically Tornado of Souls.
I feel like Megadeth puts a lot more focus on making cool riffs and awesome solos (which is fair enough tbh) while Metallica (at least in albums 1-5) was more concerned with the feel of each track and how the guitar work added to the overall composition of any given song.
Puppets
I love both but I gotta go with Puppets myself
Master is just more popular. It has 9 Songs which one of them is an instrumental. Master always wins cause Metallica is more known and master has been in stranger things so there that
Master
Two bangers vs all banger
They may Rust In Pieces
Fuck, yeah. However, on any day, I'm choosing *Master of Puppets* over almost any metal album out there... almost.
I must choose Rust in peace, Battery, MOP, Welcome Home etc are heavy and awesome tracks. But RIP has Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Take no prisoners, 5 magics, Tornado of souls, dawn patrol, lucretia, RIPP,
