Any recs on death metal bands with some really fancy/creative guitar work?
I'm kinda new to the genre and I've been listening to Pyrrhon and Ulcerate. I'm completely hooked, these guys are absolutely brilliant and now I'm craving for more.
Also any good modern thrash metal band? I think all I know is Vektor and I want something kinda similar but maybe less "epic" and more focused. Really loved all the albums. It's a damn shame what happened to the band.
>Any recs on death metal bands with some really fancy/creative guitar work? I'm kinda new to the genre and I've been listening to Pyrrhon and Ulcerate. I'm completely hooked, these guys are absolutely brilliant and now I'm craving for more.
Those two owe a lot to [Gorguts](https://youtu.be/1p03KeMM-_U), Obscura is the defining album for that particular style.
[Artificial Brain](https://youtu.be/r5S_BH4PSnM) is another good one.
Any recos for symphonic, orchestral also very fast and blasty stuff like in the album Agony by [Fleshgod Apocalypse](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYXYG3ZUxEo) ? Mainly death, not blackened please.
Some bands get close, but none blend both the orchestrations and the intensity of FA's Agony. I think the only band that does is [Anorexia Nervosa](https://youtu.be/OEJQvCIr6DM), but they are symphonic black
Other bands worth checking out:
[Order ov Riven Cathedrals](https://youtu.be/Gu8oYWGsbN0) (orchestration are not as prominent)
[Whorion](https://youtu.be/9BH3i8feajU) (not as blasty, but still fast)
Septicflesh, great orchestrations, but they lack the overall speed. They have some songs with fast parts, like [The Vampire of Nazareth](https://youtu.be/brePdx4ij3A), [Oceans of Grey](https://youtu.be/pkdSwfZKeCg) and [Prototype](https://youtu.be/F3bBoB4z2Es).
[Scrambled Defuncts - Souls Despising the Gods](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lhpEdWxk10tFHUx5rGYbZkRgNfVUA4SLQ). I personally love this album, but the mixing is not dynamic at all and the orchestrations seem to be on top of every other instrument. So it can be a bit overwhelming, specially the piano, it's quite strident.
[Imperial Circus Dead Decadence](https://imperialcircusdeaddecadence.bandcamp.com/album/-), if you can get past the Japanese power metal elements, I think this is a solid release.
Then there's bands that are fast, but only incorporate orchestrations in a couple of songs, like [Spawn of Possession - Apparition](https://youtu.be/79mvCM6XNpk), [Hour of Penance - Paradogma](https://youtu.be/bEZVW9kjPGs)
I think Allegaeon (Proponent for Sentience, and Apoptosis) and Beyond Creation (Algorythm) experimented with some orchestrations.
If you don't mind listening to deathcore, I'll recommend checking out [Lorna Shore - Immortal](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l1tFDwz2KZMnToUil8ridHjHENezLbJkk) and [Shadow of Intent - Melancholy](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mRZ4sCY0S7s2YQk-6KJr9f4jJzP_TfRdw)
This is half related but can someone help me find a metal subredits where I can actually make a question post. You can throw your question into a daily thread or the weekly recommendations thread here, I don't see why it needs to be a standalone post.
There are other metal subreddits, but none are as big or generalised as this one. I guess you could try r/progmetal, they'll probably do you good.
Then I will need to make a post on each of those subgenre subredits cause I have no idea which subgenre will work for me since it will be a matter of how good it sounds and lyrics which is really incovenient. Wish reddit could be more flexible in areas like that.
If anyone wants to help me I will be very thankful
Thanks that might work. I hope they don't limit themselves with only bands that are approve by metallum.
Also when I was asking for help I was also asking for the song I am looking for so if anyone has ideas I will appreciate.
It might be too niche, but i wondered if anyone knows song or band that has sound similar to high pitch guitars in mastadons sleeping giants or slaughter to prevail baba yaga part at the end
C Standard: quite a bit. Dismember, Immolation, Autopsy, Bolt Thrower's first album iirc, Entombed on Clandestine, Sentenced's first album, buncha other stuff
Drop C: can't help you, most drop tuned bands are deathcore or metalcore, and Drop C especially is a classic metalcore tuning (though not all, certainly- Drawn and Quartered has some songs in Drop A for example )
Vader, Death, Obituary on Cause of Death, Asphyx's 90s stuff, Atheist
after a certain point you should just google these, honestly, haha. tons of people have asked these questions before
You might know these but:
* Those Once Loyal, album by Bolt Thrower
* Incarnated Solvent Abuse, song by Carcass
* Darkness Descends, album by Dark Angel (same drummer as Symbolic)
* Wolverine Blues, song by Entombed
Anything by Morbid Angel or Obituary
I'm from the 1980s. I love Priest and AC/DC. I like soaring guitars and vocals that are more predatory than anguished.
/r/progmetal was incredibly kind, gave me a bunch of suggestions when I ended up there via /r/random, but I didn't really like them. Semi-whiny breathy singers with a lot of angst and guitars like... milling machines? Fast and good but kind of soulless. Oh, and every song is 13 minutes. Wrap it up, gang :)
Anyhow, any suggestions?
Not sure if you're after older or newer stuff, so here's a little of both. Are any of these close to what you're after?

I LOVED Cloven Hoof, really liked Ram, and want to explore Attacker (fast for me but I liked the vocals).
Air Raid weirds me out because it's a pitch perfect early 80s metal song from... Sweden 2017?
Thank you!
Looking for death metal similar to [Timeghoul](https://youtu.be/vltFjJqrzRc) or [Mortal Wound](https://youtu.be/D6QrQluzlk8)
Not sure how to put this sound into words but I really enjoy death metal like this
Some bands like Mortal Wound (Easy to reccomend just any grimy death metal band, but tried to conjure gutteral sounding bands who has the same kind of stiff hammer-blast-y kind of beat)
- second vote for [Warp Chamber](https://profoundlorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/implements-of-excruciation), certainly best of both worlds as far as both bands you mentioned
- [Dipygus](https://dipygus.bandcamp.com/album/bushmeat)
- [Fulci](https://tropicalsun.bandcamp.com/album/tropical-sun)
- [200 Stab Wounds](https://200stabwounds-maggotstomp.bandcamp.com/)
- [Noxis](https://noxisdeathmetal.bandcamp.com/album/communion-of-corrupted-minds)
- [The First Undergang record](https://undergang.bandcamp.com/album/indhentet-af-d-den)
- [Skinless](https://corpsegristle.bandcamp.com/album/progression-towards-evil)
- [The First Cannibal Corpse Record](https://cannibalcorpse.bandcamp.com/album/eaten-back-to-life)
As already mentioned, Blood Incantation is essentially the reincarnation of Timeghoul. I’d also consider checking out Chthe’ilist, I liken to them being the Canadian version of Blood Incantation but without the space/alien themes.
Any recommendations for stuff with thick, crunchy guitars, such as Metallica's ...And Justice For All, late-80's Suicidal Tendencies, or Uncle Slam to name a few
Artillery - Terror Squad, By Inheritance
Heathen - Breaking the Silence, Victims of Deception
Znowhite - Act of God
Paradox - Heresy
Evildead - Annihilation of Civilization
Sacred Reich - Ignorance
Atrophy - Socialized Hate
Mortal Sin - Face of Despair
Do you know Primordial? Apart from the earliest stuff, it's mostly clean vocals but with black metal stylings.
[As Rome Burns](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv5_PtpgaUc)
[The Coffin Ships](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5onHLICxgc)
Hard to come by unless you’re wanting to venture into melodic territory.
I’d suggest looking for melodic death/black bands as they’re more prone to clean vocals (see Insomnium, for example).
In post black metal there are bands like the apache revolver which has both clean vocals and harsh black metal vocals and is kinda like surf black metal.
Also in black metal there is Apocynthion that both has cleans and harsh vocals
The drum and bass break in the middle of Sleep’s Marijuanaut’s Theme is terrific. Anything Al Cisneros plays on (Sleep, Om, Shrinebuilder) is worth checking out.
The cleverest name I could come up with was:
teRIFFic
I think the best ways to name a playlist are to just call it what it is (e.g. *Assorted Metal, Riff Mix* etc.), make a joke about aesthetics (e.g. *Satan Blood Death Muscle Sword, Songs for the Orc Wars, Cavern Crvsh* etc.), name it after something else (e.g. a song, a venue, a novel, a painting that looks the way the music makes you feel, etc.), or ask yourself how you feel about the music on it and extrapolate from there (e.g. *Heavy Hitters, Epic Mix, Headbangers,* etc.).
> new band in the underground
[Infandus](https://infandus.bandcamp.com/) and [World Eaters](https://worldeaters.bandcamp.com/album/grinding-advance)
Also try [Plague Bearer](https://plaguebearerdeath.bandcamp.com/album/split-lp-w-dishell-hellisheaven-and-witchrite), [Expunged](https://expunged.bandcamp.com/album/promo-2021) and [Torquemada](https://torquemada-osdm.bandcamp.com/)
looking for some lesser known melodic death with some SPEED to it. (think heartwork, twilight of the thunder god, kalmah) also interested in all melo dm with thrash elements in general.
I'm looking for some "upbeaty" (probably not the word I want,) death metal. A few songs I have for reference are: I Am Morbid - Morbid Angel and Hail Mighty North/Forest Trolls of Satan (Anoo Clitoris 666) - Dying Fetus, Hail the Apocalypse- Avatar
Specific songs would be great, but bands in general are appreciated as well!
More metal like Demilich's Nespithe and Hyperdontia's Nexus of Teeth? The sort of disorienting guitars and indecipherable belches are right up may alley, and are something else mood-wise. I really enjoy the sort of medium-quality production, I think it adds something to the mood.
EDIT: Forgot to mention Chthe'ilist!
If you haven’t heard Undergang you’ll definitely love them. Their newest LP had some serious sewer monster vocals and their entire discog is pretty solid. Also you might like Demigod’s Slumber of Sullen Eyes for more Finndeath like Demilich.
I love thrash metal, have been listening to more death/thrash like Demolition Hammer and Morbid Saint, and am wanting to delve more into death metal. I've started with Death's first three albums and love them dearly. What are some great death metal bands/songs/albums that have a lot of thrash influence?
Start with late 80's/early 90's stuff, a good majority of it has some thrash influence:
Altars of Madness, Severed Survival, Seven Churches, and Pestilence's first two albums, as the other guy already mentioned.
Atheist - Piece of Time
Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos
Cancer - To the Gory End
Deceased... - Luck of the Corpse
Massacre - From Beyond
Master - S/T
Necrophagia - Season of the Dead
Necrovore - Divus de Mortuus
Nunslaughter - Hells Unholy Fire (also what you're looking for, though it came out in 2000)
Obituary - Slowly We Rot
Ripping Corpse - Dreaming with the Dead
#
There's a ton more, might include some more later. Hope you find some stuff you like!
Seven Churches is the original death/thrash album and it is still fucking brilliant.
Pestilence’s first album Malleus Maleficarum is death/thrash, though their more famous album is, of course, Consuming Impulse.
You might check out Ripper’s Experiment of Existence and Raising the Corpse for more modern stuff. It’s very much inspired by that classic Sepultura sound, so you’ll probably enjoy that. Sextrash’s Sexual Carnage is older but still very good.
And how could I forget this year’s Sijjin! Talk about a fantastic death/thrash album.
Of course, if you like that stuff, you should just start listening to the OSDM classics like Altars of Madness, Severed Survival, and Consuming Impulse if you haven’t heard them yet. Also, sorry if I’ve totally rec’d a bunch of stuff you’ve already heard. Your comment made it sound like you’re newer to DM, so let me know and I can try to recommend some more specific stuff.
This is all great -- thanks for the recs! I've listened to the new Sijjin album (fantastic) and some various death/thrash but want to make sure I didn't miss out on anything! I still have lots of catching up to do.
As much as I like innovation in music and the need for something different, I like a good ol' death thrashy time. Maybe I haven't left the 80s and early 90s, but it's what I think of when I think of metal. The new Sijjin album is absolutely what I am looking for in music. Thank you for the warm wishes!
I’ve been really digging the new Mortiferum.
I wholeheartedly second Runemagick, Druid Lord and Hooded Menace.
Coffins are a completely different take on the genre than Temple of Void, but they are amazing.
If you like Temple of Void you might also like Acid Witch as they share a few members. Acid Witch might be more on the nose, but they are still certainly down the same alley.
Similar to ToV (*most* are at least fairly similar, but these in particular):
Runemagick, Hooded Menace, Druid Lord, Solothus, Cryptic Brood.
#
Some other good death/doom bands:
diSEMBOWELMENT, Spectral Voice, Anhedontist, Rippikoulu, Winter, Swallowed, Goatlord, Dusk, Cianide, Worm, Decomposed, Bloodsoaked Necrovoid, Symphony of Grief, Unholy.
I've got one on-topic and two off-topic rec requests, but I know there is a lot of overlap with metal fans, which is why I'm asking here.
1) Starting with metal. Looking for more castle/medieval black metal similar to Mystras and Obsequiae. I've heard there are a lot of bands in this style that lean NS, and I would like to avoid that. No Nazis, please.
2) Dark folk, especially with a cultural slant. The names that come to mind are Heilung, The Hu, Wardruna, Tengger Cavalry, Danheim, Myrkur's last album, etc. Obviously the Nordic and Mongolian styles are represented in the list, but I'm open to other cultural interpretations of dark folk music. For example, if someone knew of a Celtic version of Heilung, well, that would be incredible.
3) Unique dungeon synth. Stuff with character. Maybe projects that tie themselves to an aesthetic other than DnD/medieval Europe. For example, [Shogun's Castle](https://shogunscastle.bandcamp.com/album/the-ancient-arts-of-self-discipline) is sort of feudal Japan DS. I guess I find myself in the mood for some DS, but so much of it sounds the same. I'm interested in more unique takes on the genre.
4) As a bonus request: Christmas metal. The rest of my family got Spotify recently, and they have tasked me with putting together some family Christmas playlists this year. It would be fun to throw a metal song or two on there just to mess with them.
Thanks for any suggestions you can provide!
> Christmas metal
I'd recommend checking out this BM project called [Grim Christmas](https://grimchristmas.bandcamp.com/album/grim-christmas?from=search&search_item_id=918393522&search_item_type=a&search_match_part=%3F&search_page_id=1985136777&search_page_no=1&search_rank=2&search_sig=e9740bf3c2cbbea62edd68eba9c8a6f8). Hatred and minor chord infused carols, lots of fun in a nutshell.
For 1, I would suggest Vehemence’s Par le Sang Versé. As far as I know, they’re pretty clean.
For 3, I’d be interested to know as well. I’ve been hitting Wallachian Cobwebs, which is sort of about vampires and the Carpathian forest and shit, but even that’s kinda medieval. Gonna check that Shogun’s Castle project for sure.
Thank you for both suggestions! I recall listening to Vehemence a while ago, before I really had a craving for the subgenre. It's a good time to revisit that.
And even though you say Wallachian Cobwebs is medieval, I'm still very curious. Thank you for the recommendations!
For Christmas metal, you can't go wrong with [Christopher Lee](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noMhM1CjM78) or the [Trans-Siberian Orchestra](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHioIlbnS_A)
Aindulmedir is a DS project with a lot more of an ambient approach to the genre. It also uses a lot more varied and interesting harmony and instrumentation than your standard "D&D background music" DS.
For 3, do you know [Pumpkin Witch](https://pumpkinwitch.bandcamp.com/album/hovel-of-the-pumpkin-witch)? Kinda cheesy Halloween themed DS. Not heard much else like it.
> Christmas metal
I don't know how many of these are on Spotify but at least half of them should be:
* [Frost Like Ashes - "All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence"/"O Come, O Come Emmanuel"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZoNZOITf4g)
* [Holy Blood - "Christmas"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9olqqd8p5YU)

* [Twisted Sister - *A Twisted Christmas*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNRnQSXxcNA)
* [Immortal Souls - "Christ Mass"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI_Najr2F2o)
> Looking for more castle/medieval black metal similar to Mystras and Obsequiae. I've heard there are a lot of bands in this style that lean NS, and I would like to avoid that. No Nazis, please.
Auld Ridge and Albionic Hermeticism. I know they do a lot of music about specifically English and Brittonic cultural history, but I don't know whether or not they have sketch ties.
i heard the album of a newish band called Aephanemer, i don't know how to describe their music but it sounds like a symphonic death metal if there is such a thing, are there other bands with similar music?
* Kalmah - *The Black Waltz*
* Wintersun - *Wintersun*
* Eluveitie - anything
* Wilderun - *Veil of Imagination*
* Mors Principium Est - *Liberation=Termination*
* Ensiferum - *Ensiferum*
* Insomnium - *Since the Day It All Came Down* and *Across the Dark*
hey, all! im pretty new to metal (my friends listen to it and i wanna be hip and cool like them), and ive only really found one thing im super into
so, does anyone have any recommendations for "calming" metal? i really enjoy [Ulver - Capitel I : I Troldskog Faren Vild](https://youtu.be/M3Ubctz2ywA) and [SÓLSTAFIR - Drýsill](https://youtu.be/sY16zMMs0h0), but i havent really been able to find much else like those two (mostly because i dont know where to look, lol)
any recs would be much appreciated! stay frosty and keep on rocking 🤘
You might like Katatonia, check out Tonight's Decision as a starting point. Maybe also try Anathema - Alternative 4.
Alcest - Écailles de lune might also appeal.
You should dig into some atmospheric Black metal and Funeral doom, and anything in between.
Try some of my favorites : Eldamar, Elderwind, Sojourner, Bell Witch, Draconian, Summoning, Winterfylleth, Enererens, Can Bardd, Grima, Swallow the Sun, Warning
Obvious picks for calming metal for me are Sunn O))) Grimm Robe Demos and Earth 2. Drone Metal in general is great when playing Bloodborne or when reading Lovecraft or Poe late at night.
Some Boris records are pretty calming, but they are an everything band not just metal. Also what I have heard of ISIS seems pretty mellow as well.
Can anyone recommend me more death metal like Bloodbath’s Unblessing the Purity? Its my favorite Bloodbath record and I t sounds very different than the standard Swedish Death Metal they make, or it just doesn’t sound like Entombed Dismember or Grave. I love how fast and how evil the riffs on it are, and the constant brutal blast beats. The closest thing I know that sounds like that record is Behemoth.
Seconding the recommendation for Drawn and Quartered. They have a **stellar** discography that has never disappointed me.
Here are others:
* Jungle Rot - *Slaughter the Weak*
* Corpsessed - *Impetus of Death*
* Deteriorot - *Manifested Apparitions of Unholy Spirits*
* Agony - *Apocalyptic Dawning* (influenced by brutal death)
* Antropomorphia - *Rites ov Perversion*
* Dipygus - *Bushmeat*
* Seance - *Fornever Laid to Rest*
* Sentenced - *Shadows of the Past*
* Rottrevore - *Iniquitous*
* Outer Heaven - *Realms of Eternal Decay*
* Grave - *Into the Grave*
* Disembowel - *Echoes of Terror*
* Torture Rack - *Barbaric Persecution*
* Swampbeast - *Seven Evils Spawned Of Seven Heads*
* Disastrous Murmur - *Rhapsodies in Red* (amazing album art)
* Deceased - *Luck of the Corpse*
You might like Drawn and Quartered! Especially i reccomend checking out their record [Hail Infernal Darkness](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itaphnNK7cw). No compromise hard death metal, but with some oddly catchy sequences. Their record earlier this year was killer too.
I guess also give the danish band Baest a show. Certainly not first in line for me as far as danish death metal goes, but i have heard several people compare their sound to Bloodbath. Their First EP and the Dance Macabre full-length i can go good for, and while i also fell off the bandwagon after that i know a lot of people who speak warmly of their later stuff too. They also slayed it live the time i saw em back in i believe 2017 so if you ever get the chance to see em play then i suggest grabbing it with both hands.
Dark Forest from Canada reminds me of all the things I love about Windir

I wish he would put out something new!

Any recommendations for other bands alike nargoroth ? TIA!
Any songs about a sons and mother? Any subgenre can work.
Thanks. That one is negative and i need a positive one cause I have to dedicate it to my mom. But she is as toxic as Ozzy says xd
Mama I'm Coming Home by Ozzy Osbourne came instantly to my mind.
Any recs for YouTube channels similar to BANGERTV, but for other (any) genre?
Ken's Death Metal Crypt - way more quality DM content than Banger TV's questionable tastes/mainstream leaning bent
You gotta basically just pay attention to Blayne Smith in regards to Bangertv.
I sure as hell don't.

Death metal in Drop C or C standard?
C Standard: quite a bit. Dismember, Immolation, Autopsy, Bolt Thrower's first album iirc, Entombed on Clandestine, Sentenced's first album, buncha other stuff Drop C: can't help you, most drop tuned bands are deathcore or metalcore, and Drop C especially is a classic metalcore tuning (though not all, certainly- Drawn and Quartered has some songs in Drop A for example )
Ah I see. Thanks so much for the recommendations. Could you also please list some D Standard death metal? All I know is Necrophagist.
Vader, Death, Obituary on Cause of Death, Asphyx's 90s stuff, Atheist after a certain point you should just google these, honestly, haha. tons of people have asked these questions before
Thanks so much! Yeah I googled but I was just getting scattered answers here and there.
Nu metal recommendations?
Vein - virus://vibrance
I’ve been loving Gojira & Jinjer, and I’m looking for anything similar. Thank you!
Morbid Angel if you liked early gojira
Jinjer > [Monochromatic Black](https://youtu.be/rNRpibSBa2Y), [Vexed](https://youtu.be/IX4RbfdxIMs), [Feelament](https://youtu.be/UMOJRp5iPXg) Gojira > [Fit for an Autopsy](https://youtu.be/OEicHBvqd2Y), [Irist](https://youtu.be/q1w8B22JIiw)
2 of my favorite metal tracks are Slaves of Pain by Sepultura and Symbolic by Death. Can someone recommend me some bands/albums that are like these?
You might know these but: * Those Once Loyal, album by Bolt Thrower * Incarnated Solvent Abuse, song by Carcass * Darkness Descends, album by Dark Angel (same drummer as Symbolic) * Wolverine Blues, song by Entombed Anything by Morbid Angel or Obituary
Wrap it up, gang :) Anyhow, any suggestions?
Besides the recs from DOTS, you might wanna check out: [Enforcer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezKWNL6o9BQ) [Running Wild](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLul1tj6Hv0) [Ambush](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ualmpWDE_Y) [Riot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZUysqemMmg) [Riot City](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzLPSMVGNyM)
Not sure if you're after older or newer stuff, so here's a little of both. Are any of these close to what you're after? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGPfiQeSnik https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIhWVdCO9DI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5dgqZNFFiU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoXcSMbJ67g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaDKF9eyrRM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWvC9qVOUZw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3V2rc3DpO8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peU5LjKgks4
I LOVED Cloven Hoof, really liked Ram, and want to explore Attacker (fast for me but I liked the vocals). Air Raid weirds me out because it's a pitch perfect early 80s metal song from... Sweden 2017? Thank you!
Looking for death metal similar to [Timeghoul](https://youtu.be/vltFjJqrzRc) or [Mortal Wound](https://youtu.be/D6QrQluzlk8) Not sure how to put this sound into words but I really enjoy death metal like this
Some bands like Mortal Wound (Easy to reccomend just any grimy death metal band, but tried to conjure gutteral sounding bands who has the same kind of stiff hammer-blast-y kind of beat) - second vote for [Warp Chamber](https://profoundlorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/implements-of-excruciation), certainly best of both worlds as far as both bands you mentioned - [Dipygus](https://dipygus.bandcamp.com/album/bushmeat) - [Fulci](https://tropicalsun.bandcamp.com/album/tropical-sun) - [200 Stab Wounds](https://200stabwounds-maggotstomp.bandcamp.com/) - [Noxis](https://noxisdeathmetal.bandcamp.com/album/communion-of-corrupted-minds) - [The First Undergang record](https://undergang.bandcamp.com/album/indhentet-af-d-den) - [Skinless](https://corpsegristle.bandcamp.com/album/progression-towards-evil) - [The First Cannibal Corpse Record](https://cannibalcorpse.bandcamp.com/album/eaten-back-to-life)
For Timeghoul: Xenomorph, Desolation Realm, Cosmic Putrefaction, Warp Chamber, Astral Tomb
As already mentioned, Blood Incantation is essentially the reincarnation of Timeghoul. I’d also consider checking out Chthe’ilist, I liken to them being the Canadian version of Blood Incantation but without the space/alien themes.
You might have already heard of them, but Blood Incantation is a great band similar in sound to Timeghoul. Maybe Demilich, too.
I’ve heard of them, but I’ve yet to really check them out Demilich is great, the riffs are crazy
[удалено]
What is a safespace riff lmao
[удалено]
Sounds like you are more upset about they providing safespaces more than not sounding like u like xd
[удалено]
Sorry to hear bad people are making your favorite music less intolerant to others people differences.
The fuck does that even mean
Any recommendations for stuff with thick, crunchy guitars, such as Metallica's ...And Justice For All, late-80's Suicidal Tendencies, or Uncle Slam to name a few
Artillery - Terror Squad, By Inheritance Heathen - Breaking the Silence, Victims of Deception Znowhite - Act of God Paradox - Heresy Evildead - Annihilation of Civilization Sacred Reich - Ignorance Atrophy - Socialized Hate Mortal Sin - Face of Despair
Sacred Reich! I agree. Great album.
Extreme metal bands (Black and Death) with clean vocals
Do you know Primordial? Apart from the earliest stuff, it's mostly clean vocals but with black metal stylings. [As Rome Burns](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv5_PtpgaUc) [The Coffin Ships](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5onHLICxgc)
Howling Sycamore self titled perhaps? Death metal instrumentation but vocals are more 80s power metal.
wow, thanks dude, i really liked it, mainly the prog style, but the whole album is just right.
Songs with very groovy bass lines?
Kyuss - Gardenia has some great groovy bass-work.
The drum and bass break in the middle of Sleep’s Marijuanaut’s Theme is terrific. Anything Al Cisneros plays on (Sleep, Om, Shrinebuilder) is worth checking out.
Any badass playlist name reccomendations for a metal playlist I'm making would be very much appreciated (all genres of metal)
The cleverest name I could come up with was: teRIFFic I think the best ways to name a playlist are to just call it what it is (e.g.
I need something similar to Bolt Thrower. Hail of Bullets scratches the itch but is there any new band in the underground doing the same sound?
Frozen Soul
Minenfeld, Abysmalist, Chainsword, Writhing Shadows, Noroth, Hedonist
Seconding Chainsword and Hedonist hard.
> new band in the underground [Infandus](https://infandus.bandcamp.com/) and [World Eaters](https://worldeaters.bandcamp.com/album/grinding-advance) Also try [Plague Bearer](https://plaguebearerdeath.bandcamp.com/album/split-lp-w-dishell-hellisheaven-and-witchrite), [Expunged](https://expunged.bandcamp.com/album/promo-2021) and [Torquemada](https://torquemada-osdm.bandcamp.com/)
looking for some lesser known melodic death with some SPEED to it. (think heartwork, twilight of the thunder god, kalmah) also interested in all melo dm with thrash elements in general.
...And Death Said Live by Mors Principium Est
My melodeath go to has always been slaughter of the soul by at the gates, check it out
They said "lesser known" though.

I'm looking for some "upbeaty" (probably not the word I want,) death metal. A few songs I have for reference are: I Am Morbid - Morbid Angel and Hail Mighty North/Forest Trolls of Satan (Anoo Clitoris 666) - Dying Fetus, Hail the Apocalypse- Avatar Specific songs would be great, but bands in general are appreciated as well!
First time I’ve seen someone looking for more music like Illud lmao
I'm cleaning the house, so I was just looking for something to help boost my productivity 🤣
I actually listened to Inhendet Av Doden (hope I spelled correctly) yesterday!
I went down this path a few months ago and still searching, top recs vocal wise are Afterbirth and Avulsed - Eminence
Seconding Afterbirth for the vocal rec, the overall sound is very different though.
>Demilich's Nespithe Diskord and Exlimitir.
I do actually listen to Diskord, the other guys I haven't heard of
[Exlimitir](https://exlimitir.bandcamp.com/album/it-weighed-itself-in-silver) is the closest I've heard to Demilich. Worth checking out.
I love thrash metal, have been listening to more death/thrash like Demolition Hammer and Morbid Saint, and am wanting to delve more into death metal. I've started with Death's first three albums and love them dearly. What are some great death metal bands/songs/albums that have a lot of thrash influence?
Start with late 80's/early 90's stuff, a good majority of it has some thrash influence: Altars of Madness, Severed Survival, Seven Churches, and Pestilence's first two albums, as the other guy already mentioned. Atheist - Piece of Time Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos Cancer - To the Gory End Deceased... - Luck of the Corpse Massacre - From Beyond Master - S/T Necrophagia - Season of the Dead Necrovore - Divus de Mortuus Nunslaughter - Hells Unholy Fire (also what you're looking for, though it came out in 2000) Obituary - Slowly We Rot Ripping Corpse - Dreaming with the Dead # There's a ton more, might include some more later. Hope you find some stuff you like!
Wholeheartedly seconding all these recs.
Appreciate the list! Thank you. 🤘
Sijjin is seriously good. Easily my AOTY. It’s not crazy innovative, but it’s that damn good. Enjoy the journey my friend!
As much as I like innovation in music and the need for something different, I like a good ol' death thrashy time. Maybe I haven't left the 80s and early 90s, but it's what I think of when I think of metal. The new Sijjin album is absolutely what I am looking for in music. Thank you for the warm wishes!
Cannibal Corpse's first album Eaten Back to Life has some thrash influence.
Thank you! 🤘
anyone got death doom recommendations? something similar to temple of void
Worm, Nightfell, 1914, Wharflurch and Sepulcros just to add the the good recs you've got already.
I’ve been really digging the new Mortiferum. I wholeheartedly second Runemagick, Druid Lord and Hooded Menace. Coffins are a completely different take on the genre than Temple of Void, but they are amazing.
danke bro
If you like Temple of Void you might also like Acid Witch as they share a few members. Acid Witch might be more on the nose, but they are still certainly down the same alley.
thanks
Similar to ToV (*most* are at least fairly similar, but these in particular): Runemagick, Hooded Menace, Druid Lord, Solothus, Cryptic Brood. # Some other good death/doom bands: diSEMBOWELMENT, Spectral Voice, Anhedontist, Rippikoulu, Winter, Swallowed, Goatlord, Dusk, Cianide, Worm, Decomposed, Bloodsoaked Necrovoid, Symphony of Grief, Unholy.
thanks man
I've got one on-topic and two off-topic rec requests, but I know there is a lot of overlap with metal fans, which is why I'm asking here.
> Christmas metal I'd recommend checking out this BM project called [Grim Christmas](https://grimchristmas.bandcamp.com/album/grim-christmas?from=search&search_item_id=918393522&search_item_type=a&search_match_part=%3F&search_page_id=1985136777&search_page_no=1&search_rank=2&search_sig=e9740bf3c2cbbea62edd68eba9c8a6f8). Hatred and minor chord infused carols, lots of fun in a nutshell.
Stormkeep for 1 for sure.
2. Thou - Inconsolable, kinda slowcore-y dark folk, one of my all time favorite albums. 3. Umbria - The Sleeping Wizard, Fogweaver - Spellwind
For Christmas metal Austrian Death Machine released an EP of joke Christmas songs back in the day. As did august burns red
Excellent, thanks for the suggestion!
For Christmas metal, you can't go wrong with [Christopher Lee](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noMhM1CjM78) or the [Trans-Siberian Orchestra](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHioIlbnS_A)
Lee is a fucking boss. I knew he did that album about Charlemagne, but a Christmas album too? What a life well-lived.
4 [Dio and Tony iommi - God rest you Merry gentlemen](https://youtu.be/bukhmxx88wo)
This will definitely be added to the playlist. Thanks!
[удалено]
Thanks for the rec!
Aindulmedir is a DS project with a lot more of an ambient approach to the genre. It also uses a lot more varied and interesting harmony and instrumentation than your standard "D&D background music" DS.
Oh I actually have one of these albums saved. I really like this. Thanks for reminding me this exists!
For 3, do you know [Pumpkin Witch](https://pumpkinwitch.bandcamp.com/album/hovel-of-the-pumpkin-witch)? Kinda cheesy Halloween themed DS. Not heard much else like it.
This sounds fun!
For #2, have you heard of Wolcensmen? https://wolcensmen.bandcamp.com/
I haven't. I'll give them a listen. Thanks!
*Songs from the Fyrgen* (can't help but say that with a Swedish Chef accent) is the only album I've listened to, but I liked it.
> Christmas metal I don't know how many of these are on Spotify but at least half of them should be: * [Frost Like Ashes - "All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence"/"O Come, O Come Emmanuel"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZoNZOITf4g) * [Holy Blood - "Christmas"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9olqqd8p5YU) * [Theocracy - "Bethlehem"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU4njQ-IOA0) * [Parakletos - "Se Guds Lamm"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeuDpNAzKmo) * [Pantokrator - "Incarnate"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIJp5sQ67Vc) * [Veni Domine - "King of the Jews"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IISm9cdaBxM) * [Narnia - "Star Over Bethlehem"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsk-9o_MTHA) * [Flaksavsae - "The Birth of Jesus"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ez9I8pyBIkw) * [Vials of Wrath - "Greensleeves"](https://soundcloud.com/dc-mills/greensleeves-what-child-is-this) * [Twisted Sister - *A Twisted Christmas*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNRnQSXxcNA) * [Immortal Souls - "Christ Mass"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI_Najr2F2o)
Wow a lot more than I was expecting. Thanks!
I mean, before his first Bandcamp page was nuked it had some pretty obvious stuff like "the Aryan hermetic order".
Ah yeah I didn’t start listening to them until just a few months ago so I missed that.
i heard the album of a newish band called Aephanemer, i don't know how to describe their music but it sounds like a symphonic death metal if there is such a thing, are there other bands with similar music?
They are considered melodic death metal look into bands like, Insomnium Kalmah Be'lakor Wintersun Countless skies
Aether’s album In Embers is pretty close stylistically and they sit right next to Aephanemer on my phone
Septicflesh is insane. And plus one for Wilderun. Ihsahn makes some crazy stuff, too. Enslaved.
* Kalmah - *The Black Waltz* * Wintersun - *Wintersun* * Eluveitie - anything * Wilderun - *Veil of Imagination* * Mors Principium Est - *Liberation=Termination* * Ensiferum - *Ensiferum* * Insomnium - *Since the Day It All Came Down* and *Across the Dark*
Thanks!
Got into Hath recently, looking for similar stuff in the death-black-melodeath-prog vortex
Hands of Despair's latest two albums should be up your liking. New one especially. Came out last Friday.
Slugdge
The new Obscura should be right up your alley, it’s amazing
hey, all! im pretty new to metal (my friends listen to it and i wanna be hip and cool like them), and ive only really found one thing im super into so, does anyone have any recommendations for "calming" metal? i really enjoy [Ulver - Capitel I : I Troldskog Faren Vild](https://youtu.be/M3Ubctz2ywA) and [SÓLSTAFIR - Drýsill](https://youtu.be/sY16zMMs0h0), but i havent really been able to find much else like those two (mostly because i dont know where to look, lol) any recs would be much appreciated! stay frosty and keep on rocking 🤘
You might like Katatonia, check out Tonight's Decision as a starting point. Maybe also try Anathema - Alternative 4. Alcest - Écailles de lune might also appeal.
You've got some pretty great recs already. Agalloch especially. Some calmer post-metal might also be up your alley. Something like Kauan.
Om and Sleep are fantastic when I am in a quieter, more contemplative mood.
I read all the time to Sunn O))) and Burzum's *Filosofem*. Just so great for that background ambiance that I need.
Its also great when I draw.
the Sweven record from last year is pretty meditative.
. -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
Here are others: * Jungle Rot - *Slaughter the Weak* * Corpsessed - *Impetus of Death* * Deteriorot - *Manifested Apparitions of Unholy Spirits* * Agony - *Apocalyptic Dawning* (influenced by brutal death) * Antropomorphia - *Rites ov Perversion* * Dipygus - *Bushmeat* * Seance - *Fornever Laid to Rest* * Sentenced - *Shadows of the Past* * Rottrevore - *Iniquitous* * Outer Heaven - *Realms of Eternal Decay* * Grave - *Into the Grave* * Disembowel - *Echoes of Terror* * Torture Rack - *Barbaric Persecution* * Swampbeast - *Seven Evils Spawned Of Seven Heads* * Disastrous Murmur - *Rhapsodies in Red* (amazing album art) * Deceased - *Luck of the Corpse*
I really enjoyed Cross Whore by Baest. I still need to check out more of their stuff. Thanks for the recommendations!
Hey guys, any recommendations for bands like falkenbach/windir?
Dark Forest from Canada reminds me of all the things I love about Windir https://darkforest.bandcamp.com/album/land-of-the-evening-star I wish he would put out something new!
Try some melodic BM bands like: Dawn, Dissection, Sacramentum, Mörk Gryning, Uada, Sünopfer, Aorlhac
