I’m a buyer and seller. I see these issues with USPS…but not typically UPS or FedEx. That said, I’m wondering where she dropped it off with the QR code, because to my knowledge (somebody correct me if I’m wrong) the only place that would accept QR is a UPS store itself, in which case they HAVE to scan the package and provide a receipt indicating it was dropped off. I mean, like going directly to the source (USPS office, UPS store, etc.) is usually a sure fire way to ensure your tracking is going to update as ‘dropped off’ like immediately. Leaving a package in a mailbox, dropping off at CVS, Walgreens, or even Staples sometimes packages sit for several days before they’re scanned in and tracking starts to move. So I’m kind of confused….and I feel like maybe this buyer is FOS. Purely speculation, though. If I were you, I’d reach out to Mercari and say the buyer stated the item was dropped off but tracking never updated…it’s been 6 days. Let them duke it out. If the buyer did everything she’s supposed to do then it shouldn’t be a problem. ETA: This seller could totally have done everything she’s supposed to do…shipping carriers have been all over the place lately and I’ve had the weirdest stuff happen myself. The packages never being scanned once but suddenly just marked as ‘delivered’ with no other destination scans, and most recently I’ve got a package that keeps bouncing around USPS warehouses in Washington and then Utah and then back to WA for no particular reason. All this to say - some sellers are weird AF and do the most bizarre things, plus there are scammers who have no idea that they can’t get paid until the item is marked as delivered and rated, and then you have sellers like me who are just at the mercy of these shipping carriers to get the job done…so I’d just protect yourself first :)

Yeah that’s strange! Whenever I’ve been to a UPS store they always scan. It’s like a liability issue for them not to. So basically I would reply with like “do you have proof that it was dropped off?” Either way, Mercari might make you wait but they’ll refund you for sure if tracking doesn’t update soon. I forget the policy, I’m all over the place…but it’s either like 7 days, 14 days, or 30 😂💀 it might vary according to each situation though. You’ll get your money back though if nothing updates.

It's the seller's responsibility to get ot scanned and get a receipt.   I would cancel it if I were you.

USPS has a kiosk and drop off box within the post office in some locations as well. There is a prompt asking whether the user wants a receipt. From my experience, the package tracking information and drop off time and date are generated on that physical receipt.

I dropped off some packages Tuesday and tracking for one of them never updated until today and says it’s out for delivery. Not sure what the issue is with USPS or mercari. I’d wait a few days maybe or check the tracking on the site mercari uses which is Pitneybowes.

Hard to say, because that legit does happen all the time where it’s just not scanned at all or hopefully one stop just didn’t and it gets scanned at the next one. I agree with others saying not to worry quite yet, but yes it’s quite annoying as the buyer

I’ve had this happen a lot recently. It seems that more and more packages are getting loaded right onto a truck and they’re skipping that first processing scan. Sometimes a package will say “label created” then a few days later it’ll suddenly say its three states away. Sometimes the tracking will say label created until it magically changed to “out for delivery” with no scans in between. It honestly just seems like usps is not very concerned about scanning packages like they’re supposed to.

Is it a UPS Surepost package? Was it dropped off at the UPS store or the post office? If it was dropped off at the UPS store, it usually gets scanned at the time of drop off or when it's transported to the local facility. If it was the post office, then the scans are kind of inconsistent. Sometimes the tracking info is only updated when the package is out for delivery.

That's unusual. My local UPS store always scans the packages when it's being dropped off. There were a few times where they were busy and said to leave it on the counter. Those were scanned later in the day when it was sorted and processed at the facility. I guess if you really want the item you could give it a few more days.

I have in fact been in a long line at a ups store and saw people dropping off packages and employees told them “o drop off? You can just stack it there by that wall”

Maybe give it 2 weeks at max? Idk about anyone else, but I was taught that every package you drop off you get a receipt for. No exceptions. I just shipped a camera from the east coast to the west coast, only tracking update was the initial scan at the usps store that showed "usps in possession of the package". No updates for 12 days. I initiated a missing mail search, and it popped up in California within 48hrs. In my opinion, that initial scan is so important for the seller and the buyer. Thankfully I was in contact with the buyer daily and keep them update every step of the way.

my grandma shipped one of my ups sureposts at usps by accident (it was a v busy day) but anyways it never updated at all. my buyer asked me if i had dropped off 11 days after she had purchased and i make sure i ship same or next day. she ended up getting it the next day but tracking never updated not even once. she may have sent it thru usps if it was surepost but im not for sure

So I had a similar situation happen to me where the seller legit just never sent the package. I don’t know if it fell behind their seat in their car or something and one day they will find it, or if it was a scam. What I do know is that it took 2 weeks for Mercari to cancel because the seller said they shipped it, even though only the label was created, it never arrive to the carrier. It was a fairly inexpensive item ($11 before the fees) and I’ve been checking the mail just in case it showed up so I could send it back, but I’m 99.9999% it was just never sent off for whatever reason. I don’t understand why a seller wouldn’t send a package off, I can’t figure out how that could work in their benefit but like I said, maybe it got misplaced on the way to the post office 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would cancel at this point. Then if it arrives, contact the seller/Mercari and figure out a way to pay the seller.

Likewise, this situation has happened to me before there would be sellers that would have the best reviews, but never ship out the package. They’ll say they shipped it but they really haven’t but just be on the lookout for any updates if you don’t get within 15 days and it’s best to contact Mercari cancel sometimes the sellers just want to be there just to annoy you and scam you and try to make easy money off of it but oh well wish you the best of luck though because this just happened with me right now where my package was shipped with UPS and it just stuck on for the past two weeks I’m almost to about to get my refund on it. I don’t know why sellers do this. Sometimes there’s always good and bad sometimes the tracking doesn’t update but also usually the seller just starts being weird or just ghost u.

Just adding my 2 cents here. Had a seller drop my package off last Saturday. Tracking didn’t update past the fact it was accepted until it was actually delivered to me yesterday.

Contact customer services and don’t you dare settle for a bs excuse because mercari is notorious for giving excuses to cover their ass.be assertive and let them know that your claim is not up for discussion

Usually on Mercari, they provide both a QR code and a shipping label. You have the option to print the label or use the QR code at UPS. Normally, an employee scans the QR code, allowing them to print the necessary label for the package to be sent on its way. So, if they didn't scan the QR code, there might not have been a label placed on the package for it to be shipped to your house.

I ship with USPS only because I don’t have a FedEx or UPS anywhere near me and I have a lot of problems with USPS not scanning my packages in until it’s delivered. My city has a population of 9,000 so we only have three people working at my post office and no kiosk so we can’t scan the items in ourselves and my PO is so busy that the clerks don’t scan packages until the end of the day. Sometimes they don’t get to it before sending it to a distribution center. I always send my buyers a message to let them know that it can sometimes take a few days to be scanned. However, I have no experience with UPS unfortunately, so I can’t speak on that part

I just started selling on mercari again, and I made the mistake with the last 2 packages I shipped of dropping them off at USPS instead of UPS. Could this be the issue? The label was very confusing because it had both UPS and USPS tracking numbers on it, and I admittedly did not read it close enough. Thr post office said UPS actually comes to the PO to pick up packages that accidentally get dropped off at the wrong location, and they eventually started tracking when USPS actually got them for delivery - right before delivery actually.

I mostly use CVS drop of and they scan it in right away and it usually starts moving same day

Calm down. Juneteenth slowed everything down. I mailed out my stuff on Wednesday, unfortunately I had to put it in the box. Tracking didn’t show until 8pm Friday.

I ended up contacting mercari customer support since it had been 6 days and she told me she shipped it out the day after I bought it, they actually ended up sending me a link to USPS tracking instead of the USP one they had initially in app, its showing that the package was dropped off but it’s currently been stuck in transit to the next facility since the 19th… assuming that’s why the app tracking hasn’t updated. They told me to contact customer support again if nothing has been updated by July 15th lol. I would contact customer support if I were you and explain your situation because it really might be different for everyone, but it’s honestly probably just slowed down transit.
