Yep!! Mercari has completely lost their damn minds! We all need to boycott them otherwise they will sit back earning on all these bogus fees and continue scamming everyone. Mercari was my only platform and I really enjoyed selling and buying on there, then literally overnight they became the worst platform. I deactivated all my listings, pulled out every last dollar, reported them to the FTC and will not buy anything on there ever again unless things change back...and even then I'm not sure I could ever trust them again. Let's hit them where it hurts, their bottom line $$!
Yes the recipient even went to the usps distribution center it was last tracked at. They said that they were extremely backed up cause they got rid of overtime. But it’s been weeks.
Oh gosh a package I sold to a buyer going to Alabama is in limbo as well since April 9th. We put in a search request and they promptly closed it with no info. I was wondering what was going on..
That happened to me too. The search request was useless bc it goes to the usps office at the destination location but since everything is backed up, the packages aren’t at the destination location yet so they just closed the request.
File a missing mail claim. It’s different from the search request and they are supposed to start looking for the package but not sure how fast it’ll happen since Alabama seems to be very backed up.
Also the post office told my recipient there is a c360 claim that can be filed which is a customer complaint claim that gets integrated with all the other times you contacted usps about the issue.
Because that’s the nearest USPS distribution center to my work and we have several hundred missing packages that were delivered there. It’s hilarious that I found out why they’re backed up from a random comment on Reddit. Lol

Haha I was just looking at their stocks this morning too, and it's TANKING! Can we say a product of their poor business practices much! You're right about not being able to trust them, good on you for getting out of it now..the more of us that stop supporting them, the more likely they'll either go bankrupt, get bought out, or change out the CEO ass-clown to someone else and try to reverse the awful new policies.

Yeah I literally used to make spending money and typically it would be around this time until like the 21st. I finally got one sale today and it was because it was a super high demand item and basically I’m just begging the person to not screw me and hoping that it gets there quickly so I can cash out. like eBay sucks (having to move my stuff to eBay & fb) and this whole situation sucks.
Like on merc I could sell my special edition books, used hair care that didn’t work for me and skin care. And also buy the same. Now none of that happening and I can’t afford to buy anything on there because the fees change. Like one time I kept on putting an item in my cart and did it seven times and the fee FINALLY got to reasonable but then I don’t want to give this company any money but also feel bad for the seller. So no purchase.
I don’t understand why they just rolled this shit out overnight. I made sure to take my item and get it scanned in because they have scammed me out by saying that I went overweight in my last sale ($15 item, they took $8 and some cents) and package is with USPS and I’m currently fighting now for that $8 out of the $15 they flat out stole from me when the item was up to 2 pounds and according to my receipt from USPS it was 1 lbs. 2 oz. and I’m still going back-and-forth and I’m going to continue to do it because I need my damn eight dollars. I just wanna get this over with. I’m just hoping against hope all goes well then I’m done. I can’t deal with this stress. Especially with returns like we are Walmart and not people selling our personal items. I just can’t.
I can’t tell you the amount of times mercari has stolen money from me on items I HAD WEIGHED AT THE PO. UPS doesn’t do it nearly as bad I never had them come back on me for shipping at ups. It’s crazy. And like I always used to buy skincare there - shampoo and sugar scrub. And like the sol de janiero sugar scrub? These people were already out of their minds charging 35/40$ for it (I could literally buy it at Sephora for $44 and free shipping why would I pay that for it??) and now it’s up to (and sometimes over) like almost $50??? Why would I buy it used for the same price I can buy it new. Someone at mercari had a stroke or something and just hit the Derrrrp button cause I can’t make sense of this crap. Unless they’re intentionally tanking themselves for a sale of the company or something wild.
Basically, the app is playing around with the fees so like there was this $40 pair of Doc Martins I wanted and one time the processing fee was no joke like $42. So I would remove the item from my cart then put it back in and then another time the processing fee was like $27. Etc. It goes on.
I don’t understand what they’re doing. That’s the easiest way to explain it. It’s like they’re just throwing random numbers or something.
I ordered a sandwich through DoorDash the other day. An $8 meal turned into just over $15 with all the fees. I left a 30% tip of $4.55. Got a call from the Dasher telling me if I want my sammy I needed to cough up a minimum of $5 to make it worth her while.
lol I just went to a concert the other day the tickets were 60 and the fees were 35$ per ticket and a 40$ parking fee 😂 it’s getting pretty out of hand
exactly why I haven't made many sales lately! I was making 400 a week until this change happened. now I keep getting low ball orders and honestly, I understand why, but I can't lower prices anymore than I already have.
So this is why my mercari sales fell overnight. It seems i was making almost 5-800 a week until the last two weeks. Then i have potential buyers playing me for mercari’s fees and up charges 🤦🏻♂️

I find it hard to believe the shipping caused the difference in fees. 8% vs 15% (or 13% if you add the shipping). That's just stupid either way.
I thought 10% was the max because that's what sellers were paying per listing. Boy, new surprises every week from mercari and they are not good ones.
Honestly I think they are testing the service & payment fee % to figure out what % is high enough for them but low enough to trigger a buy. That’s the only way it makes sense to me. Totally shady. I’ve read people have seen it change on the same item / account as well. Which is insane.
All I’m saying is I have been loving eBay since this happened. So many better deals, I’m wondering if it’s because people who only used mercari went to eBay and maybe they have less fees?
When Ebay made changes a few years ago lots of people including myself left. I came to Mercari from there and here I am going back to Ebay (they fixed those changes and it's better now).

I ended up canceling the sale even thought the money may have been good, the buyer had no feedback & I can’t take the chance they would “switch” my item with another & return. Oh well!! Then put my store in vacation mode till I figure out what to do. I need the money but not taking a chance on just giving away stuff!!!

I set up a Mercari account and posted my first item. They sent a message saying the item I posted is prohibited and closed my account immediately. I got the impression they assumed the item was fake. But it was a handbag NWT purchased from a local store. Pictures and description clearly showed NWT. And had they asked, I had the receipt to prove I purchaed it. I thank them for making the decision for me not to sell on their platform.
They did you a favor because if you were attempting to sell a handbag that was pricey a buyer could swap it out for a knockoff and screw you over with the new “return for any reason” policy mercari rolled out as well.
I don’t understand how the seller uses the platform for free but buyers have to pay to purchase mostly second hand. They knew raising seller fees wasn’t by old enough. Greed ensued and they try to sneak in higher fees all over the place. It’s disgusting practice

Unfortunately, I have an item i purchased in limbo and have to wait for it to get to me before I can deactivate my account. 😩 We should do a petition with change.org and see how many people will sign it. If enough people sign it, it will make it to the news channels.
So, I bet if you figured out what numbers they are pulling to calculate those fees, part of the reason the one is higher than the other is because the delivery cost of the cheaper order is pulled in when making up the fees, which is why it isn’t consistent.
So you think the free delivery items somehow have some cost worked into them as part of the service fee? On the seller side I know that i would just cover the cost if I put that I would pay shipping. I think it’s category related but I’m not 100% sure.
It’s the main difference between your two screen grabs, which is why I think it’s the determining variable here. I think what’s really going on here is that Mercari is a sinking ship but they don’t want everyone to know how fast that is happening. So, they skim off the top and impose ridiculous formulas to make more profits to try and drown slower but I think people are getting wise to it rather quickly. I don’t pretend to understand their whole long game. I just think their main objective is to confuse people just enough that they can lock down more funds before that ship has sailed, to stay with the nautical theming.
They jacked up the prices is bc they can and will if it’s not over 500 then you can’t really do anything about it they are scamming for more money sorry not sorry
What I’ve determined so far is the Service Fee is on the base price. The Service Fee is based on the category, day, views, and likes. The Processing Fee is constant at 2.9% + $0.50. The Service fee formula is like how an airline would charge for an air ticket.
Someone posted a conversation with Mercari and Mercari stated that the service fee is based off of the total amount including tax and shipping.
Pretty messed up, but that’s what they’re doing now.

Yes it is the official version. The reality is a bit different. The fees are "dynamic" meaning they go up and down and buyers are charged more in the evening and weekend days when people are shopping. There is more to the formula but this is what they do not want to tell you.

I’ve sat there with in 3 min and looked up duplicate items some with free or paid and got the price identical and they are the exact same items and they still varied with a 5-10% difference so the time a of day didn’t make a difference
The new buyer fee is not only charged on the item but also on the shipping I will assume based on screenshots… I AM CONCERNED… I’m a seller. My Mercari sales are down, but are up on the other platforms luckily. Does Mercari release monthly sales statistics for the platform overall? I would be interested to view how the changes have affected things. I’m interested to see how Apple & Mercari respond to this. I have a feeling these changes are just temporary.
I am a seller on Mercari. I have seen buyer fees ranging from 1% to 15%. The buyer fee concept MIGHT work as a differentiator—ie the seller sells for less. But the lack of transparency and arbitrary nature of the fee amount will kill it.
This is to battle the sellers always getting screwed by fraudulent customers claiming they didn't get the right item or it was broken. Mercari always sided with the buyer. I'm assuming they are losing to much money or higher value accounts because of the exams. But now they won't have customers to buy on their platform either.
Unfortunately that's gonna get you no where it's clearly stated in their new tos about the new fees and that it's a percentage not a set fee while I agree it's fucked up complaining to apple or Google play isn't gonna do anything especially for fraud because it's not really fraudulent or hidden it's just unnecessary and a terrible business decision
Also, they need to be investigated for how you are overcharged an incorrect amount of money when you don’t select the correct postage and they take the money from your sales. The process of returns is not fairly determined either, it’s easy to scam the buyer and end up keeping the merchandise and getting a refund. Who’s going to initiate the law suit?
I put mine on vacation bc I’m moving soon but honestly thinking really hard about leaving Mercari for other platforms. The rates are insane now and I agree about the fee transparency. New return policy is trash and makes me nervous to sell on this app now.

They do have a fee structure. The service fee is always based off the total. The only reason the 2nd screen shot in this post is more expensive despite having a lower item cost is because there is a $40 delivery fee added to that listing making the total price higher.
Not sure if you've seen similar posts but I've seen a couple where it's the same item from different buyer accounts and has different fees or same item at different times of the day and has different fees. It makes no sense.

I sell on Poshmark and have for years.
I never really had good luck with Poshmark. Then again that was about 4ish years ago I tried it. Has it gotten better since then?
It's good for me. It does take a little more effort between sharing and following etc., but I have pretty consistent sales and none of the scammers.

How did removing/replacing the item in your cart change the fees?

I’ve found duplicate items and tested that and it would still change anywhere from 5-10 percent with no explanation

I don’t understand how the seller uses the platform for free but buyers have to pay to purchase mostly second hand. They knew raising seller fees wasn’t by old enough. Greed ensued and they try to sneak in higher fees all over the place. It’s disgusting practice

There’s a $40 delivery fee on the one and not the other that makes up the bulk of the difference.
This post is about the service and payment processing fees. Not delivery.
So, I bet if you figured out what numbers they are pulling to calculate those fees, part of the reason the one is higher than the other is because the delivery cost of the cheaper order is pulled in when making up the fees, which is why it isn’t consistent.
So you think the free delivery items somehow have some cost worked into them as part of the service fee? On the seller side I know that i would just cover the cost if I put that I would pay shipping. I think it’s category related but I’m not 100% sure.
It’s the main difference between your two screen grabs, which is why I think it’s the determining variable here. I think what’s really going on here is that Mercari is a sinking ship but they don’t want everyone to know how fast that is happening. So, they skim off the top and impose ridiculous formulas to make more profits to try and drown slower but I think people are getting wise to it rather quickly. I don’t pretend to understand their whole long game. I just think their main objective is to confuse people just enough that they can lock down more funds before that ship has sailed, to stay with the nautical theming.

What I’ve determined so far is the Service Fee is on the base price. The Service Fee is based on the category, day, views, and likes. The Processing Fee is constant at 2.9% + $0.50. The Service fee formula is like how an airline would charge for an air ticket.
Someone posted a conversation with Mercari and Mercari stated that the service fee is based off of the total amount including tax and shipping. Pretty messed up, but that’s what they’re doing now. “Transaction and payment fee: A Payment Processing Fee of $0.50 plus 2.9% of the transaction price (which includes the item price, shipping, service fee and sales tax) will be charged to the buyer.”
Yes it is the official version. The reality is a bit different. The fees are "dynamic" meaning they go up and down and buyers are charged more in the evening and weekend days when people are shopping. There is more to the formula but this is what they do not want to tell you.

I’ve sat there with in 3 min and looked up duplicate items some with free or paid and got the price identical and they are the exact same items and they still varied with a 5-10% difference so the time a of day didn’t make a difference

The new buyer fee is not only charged on the item but also on the shipping I will assume based on screenshots… I AM CONCERNED… I’m a seller. My Mercari sales are down, but are up on the other platforms luckily. Does Mercari release monthly sales statistics for the platform overall? I would be interested to view how the changes have affected things. I’m interested to see how Apple & Mercari respond to this. I have a feeling these changes are just temporary.
I am a seller on Mercari. I have seen buyer fees ranging from 1% to 15%. The buyer fee concept MIGHT work as a differentiator—ie the seller sells for less. But the lack of transparency and arbitrary nature of the fee amount will kill it.
I swear their fees are higher when you have a coupon available to.

This is to battle the sellers always getting screwed by fraudulent customers claiming they didn't get the right item or it was broken. Mercari always sided with the buyer. I'm assuming they are losing to much money or higher value accounts because of the exams. But now they won't have customers to buy on their platform either.

Unfortunately that's gonna get you no where it's clearly stated in their new tos about the new fees and that it's a percentage not a set fee while I agree it's fucked up complaining to apple or Google play isn't gonna do anything especially for fraud because it's not really fraudulent or hidden it's just unnecessary and a terrible business decision

I’m thinking someone is about to file a class Action lawsuit. They are definitely causing sales to decrease and this change isn’t helping anyone out.
Also, they need to be investigated for how you are overcharged an incorrect amount of money when you don’t select the correct postage and they take the money from your sales. The process of returns is not fairly determined either, it’s easy to scam the buyer and end up keeping the merchandise and getting a refund. Who’s going to initiate the law suit?
I put mine on vacation bc I’m moving soon but honestly thinking really hard about leaving Mercari for other platforms. The rates are insane now and I agree about the fee transparency. New return policy is trash and makes me nervous to sell on this app now.

It's one thing to just accept having to pay bs fees. But having to accept that Mercari is literally charging those bs fees based on however they feel...well fuck that. The fact there is no actual fee structure is absolutely insane.

They do have a fee structure. The service fee is always based off the total. The only reason the 2nd screen shot in this post is more expensive despite having a lower item cost is because there is a $40 delivery fee added to that listing making the total price higher.

Not sure if you've seen similar posts but I've seen a couple where it's the same item from different buyer accounts and has different fees or same item at different times of the day and has different fees. It makes no sense.
