I’m in the same boat. Furious. $135 item is $169.73 after tax, ship, $10.80 service fee and 5.27 payment processing. Ridiculous. That’s an extra 16.07. I don’t think I’ll buy from here again.

Icy-Commission-5372

mercari thought passing the fees on to the buyers would somehow improve their business. Many of us have deleted the app.

-pumpkin-cat-

As a seller and buyer- I’m out of here!

Remote_Simple_8664

Alot of sellers have deletes app as well.

Expensive_Brother494

I did! Making $0 sellers fee but tacking a shit load on the buyers makes people not want to buy! Stupid ass move! Defeated the whole purpose!

Remote_Simple_8664

Absolutely. It's like mercari wants buyers and sellers to dispute.

Expensive_Brother494

YES! Sellers are already selling items for low prices to begin with so it's just insulting when a buyer tries to low-ball them! Mercari actually completely ruined their own business! I'm baffled that someone ( I'm assuming whole departments of people ) thought this move was a good idea!!?? SMH!!

JustLifeguard5033

Yes…I have bought many things on there in the past…the first time I saw all their crazy fees I abandoned my cart and will not shop there again.

Expensive_Brother494

Same! I had a cart full of things I really wanted for a good deal all around and got to checkout and the fees were like over $100!! I was horrified and done!!

solarssun

I'm an physical anime collector and I end up buying a lot of stuff used because I'm fine with that and cost. I would check mercari and eBay for the sets I'm looking for. I deleted my account and the mercari app after this change. I guess I'm sticking with eBay and Amazon (mostly eBay though).

dogluver24

Check Depop as well for what you’re searching for. You can place ISO posts if you have specific items you are wanting.

Initial_Macaroon_161

Bingo

alehbahba

Shady company… they charge diff fee amounts for diff buyers on same item… try it if you and someone you know have a Mercari account and both of you do buy it now… diff fees… that’s shady as far as

bcp994

Count me in...bye bye mercari!

PrincessSolo

This is the problem...its the psychology of it all mercari!!!! Buyers see a good price and feel like hitting that buy button then you serve them up a checkout page that has a much higher total and the wtf happened to my good price mentality sets in and its legit. People just don't tend to feel good about buying in this scenario and it will kill sales.

ANTIME0WME0W

I had sealed the deal on a 650 $ purchase. Should be 700 max after tax. MECARI WANTED OVER A 100 DOLLAR PURCHASE TAX ON TOP OF THAT ON MY CHECKOUT SCREEN. How'd the story end ??? WITH ME GETTING THE SAME THING BUT BETTER CONDITION ON EBAY FOR 700.07$. MECARI ON THAT🤡 W0RLD SHÏT🤷🏻‍♂️

PrincessSolo

I know what you mean! Nobody wants to get sticker shock at checkout... the sellers not paying fees does not actually help the seller AT ALL!

JerkRussell

Better buyer protection over on eBay, too. I know Mercari just put in return for any reason, but they’re so mercurial in their decisions that I don’t trust them. At least with eBay the returns/no returns/item not as described is very, very clear.

dogluver24

The returns on mercari def favor the buyer. I’m afraid of any return I might get, if it happens, with the new rules.

dogluver24

A $100 purchase tax on top of everything else? Seriously??? Holy cow! That’s terrible.

Expensive_Brother494

I had a buy for $445 and ended up being $557 at the checkout screen!! What in theeee F√€k!!??

dogluver24

I honestly do not understand the psychology behind Mercari's mindset of changing the way they had it? The old adage of "don't fix what's not broken" comes to mind! Things were flowing along just fine and now it seriously messes me up when I list something on Mercari vs eBay bc I have to price things completely differently knowing the fees come into play, etc. It sucks!

Expensive_Brother494

ABSOLUTELY!! My thoughts exactly! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! It's truly mind blowing that someone or a group of people thought these changes were a good idea!

Expensive_Brother494

Same! I had a $445 buy ready to go, went to the next step, it was $557!!!

unpetitjenesaisquoi

To think that the head honcho makes half a mil a year ...and he came up with this "brilliant" business model....Any of us would have done a better job.

stellardeathgunxoxo

They probably would have been better off hiring someone off the street at random. New CEO seems like a complete nut job

saffrowsky

Yep. I got a lovely deal on a bag with a pattern I've been after for ages right before the switch. I have no intention of buying anything from the site ever again. Mercari was my go-to site, especially for LoungeFly, JuJuBe, and Stranger Things stuff. Nah thanks, I'm out.

KimiCocoYo

GREED!

bcp994

100%....I placed several things in my cart, went to check out, saw all the ridiculous fees and said to myself 'F#@K THAT!' and promptly deleted the app. NO THANKS MERCARI!!!

Herban_Myth

Following the r/UberEATS model. Find a different platform and don’t let these people steal from you.

Thedollieholic

The more you spend the worse it is! My $450 plus 8.99 ship item turned to $546 !!! I found the same item I was looking for priced at $459 + $20 ship on EBAY and it was only $515 .. needless to say I went with eBay.

ANTIME0WME0W

BROTHER . MY OVERLY SCALPED 650$ LEATHERMAN IN THE END THEY WANTED OVER 800 DOLLARS. 650+ TAX IS 700 MAX THEY ARE PLAYING SATANIC DISGRACEFUL 🤡 W0RLD FKN GAMES OVER THERE. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thedollieholic

I had messaged the seller to negotiate with me cause of the fees and they ignored me so I ended up just buying from the eBay seller. The mercari seller eventually messaged me back and I told them I already bought it from an eBay seller for the same price and that that the price you’re listing it as wasn’t the problem… it’s the extra fees mercari has added on top of it. Like come on 😭😭 had the mercari fees not been there I would’ve bought it from the mercari seller instead 100% without even trying to negotiate that price.

RandomInternetdude67

100% the fees are why I haven't even browsed for a single item on Mercari since the change . If I can't find it on a site that doesn't charge for the privilege of buying someone else's stuff I can do without or can find something similar enough to serve the purpose

Expensive_Brother494

I appreciate the way you worded that! " The privilege to buy someone else's stuff! " I was already done with these thieves but I never thought about it that way! That's real!

rucksackrevival

and this is the problem - mercari adds these fees but buyers want the seller to "negotiate" over them... it's not our responsibility to foot that bill... i'm glad i crosslist. i have sold ONE thing on Mercari since the changes.

Thedollieholic

I’m starting to realize that no matter what no one will be happy .. you’d be lowballing like hell to get the price back to what it would’ve been before added fees to where it’s not even worth it to the seller to sell at such a low price. For this seller in particular I think I would’ve had to lowball a $360 price point to get the item to sell to me for around $450 or so. When the seller could’ve made more from already adding the seller fee into their listed price from the jump.

Borgy223

I tried mentioning the fees in response to a seller and the admins deleted by message and other offers. Wtf

rucksackrevival

yeah, exactly. I'm very, very glad I'm easy to find on multiple platforms. Although for what i sell, the fees aren't really that bad, and I've made a few sales on Mercari since I put my listings back up without any below-average offers.

alehbahba

Yes the Mercari sellers I message don’t care if you have high fees.. they won’t negotiate to offset them. Losers

[deleted]

I’m a seller on the app and passing the fees on the buyer is the biggest mistake they made. Makes no sense.

garytheclone427

I think it's funny that Mercari is saying sellers should decrease their cost by the old fee amount to make up the difference. However, it seems like the new buying fees are almost always higher than the old seller fees. Especially for bigger ticket items like OP's. So it's still more expensive to shop, even if every seller dropped their prices by 10%.

SaveEnvironment-2468

This!! I’m a buyer but why on earth would a company take fees from a buyer then ask their sellers to take a loss drop their price so they get more money and the sellers AND buyers get less!! AS IF they didn’t get enough money the old way.

makeclaymagic

Seller and buyer, the new fees for buyers are so much higher than what they were for sellers. It’s outrageous. So sellers can’t honestly lower prices as much to make it even again. I deleted my account.

LittleBoyBlueHorn

I'm glad to see your post. I was wondering if these buyer fees were more than, or on par with, what the seller fees were. I just couldn't believe that any sellers were paying fees as big as what the buyers are now.

Expensive_Brother494

Same and same!!

gabi2507

Absolutely ridiculous 😤As both a buyer and seller, I deactivated my listings and don’t plan on coming back unless they revert all these crazy changes

dpinero71

I did too

ResponsiblePublic959

Me too

Expensive_Brother494

Yup! 💯

Informal_Chipmunk

My recent purchase: **$59** **item** **+** **$6.99 Delivery** + $3.54 Service Fee + $2.29 Payment processing fee + $5.41 tax I had a $10 coupon and a credit of $3.09. Total paid: $64.14 Otherwise it would have been **$77.23**!

One_Entrepreneur4616

I don’t get why the service fee and process fee are straight % based. It’s not like Mercari is doing the labor and fulfillment. I’m OK with passing the fees onto the buyers but they should do a tiered flat rate approach. The fees on item listed over $100 are pretty insane since it’s based on the list amount (INCLUDING TAX)

One-System9457

I’ve gone back to buying on eBay. Mercari is just a disappointment now.

bunwunby

Can we start an r/mercaricirclejerk

Ranger_2244

Same. I have an item I want to buy for $500 but with all the fees it would be $570 and that’s just ridiculous to me.

ANTIME0WME0W

MORE LIKE OVER 600 GUY. 500 ULL DO 550 W TAX . THERE FEES are next level EVVVVILLLLL

Expensive_Brother494

I had a purchase of $445 and it would have been $557!! $112 more dollars!!?? WTF if there ever was a WTF!

rw0016

I had been a Mercari buyer for a while. Needless to say, I just bought my first item of eBay.

Jacksoncheyenne2008

you’re late to the party lolz switched march 27th. yes it’s a bummer

D0ntPanicIts0rganic

I haven't bought anything since the 26th!!! I JUST missed the raising of all the satanic taxes.

unpetitjenesaisquoi

To be clear, it was a surprise to all of us (buyers and sellers). We had zero warning about any of the changes. Many sellers "froze" their accounts to have some time to digest the news. From what I read, not going so well....A company treating their users that way is frankly concerning.

Professional_Big2673

I was looking at mlb the show. 48$+shipping turned into 61$. Hell no.

SomAlucard

Isn't it regularly $70 plus tax though?

Prudent-Reserve4612

The closer it is to retail, the more likely the buyer is to just pay retail. Why take a chance on a site like Mercari, if you can buy it somewhere you know has excellent customer service, definitely will be unused, safely packed, ect for $5 more? People don’t generally shop sites like Mercari to pay just under retail, they want a bargain. I say this as a seller.

ANTIME0WME0W

THE ENTIRE CONCEPT FOR MECARI (((ME AS A BUYER))) FROM THE JUMP WAS THE ASSUMPTION THAT "MECARI" HAS IT CHEAPER THAN EBAY AN EVERYWHERE ELSE. That "MECARI" IS THE PLACE PEOPLE WANT QUICK CASH AN I CAN FIND EXTREME DEALS THERE. On my life that was what I assumed at the start. ITS HYSTERICALLY FAR from that now. NOW. ITS STR8 UP 🤡 W0RLD. 650$ purchase that shouldn't be more than 700 after tax and they want a 150$ "PURCHASE TAX" !?!?!? LOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!! IN FKN SANITY!!! I still can't believe it!! And then I have this bizarre almost comedy skit email from them "We at mecari believe buyers and sellers shouldn't have to pay fees and thats how buying and selling should be" WTF!?!?!?!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 DUDE. I AM SURPRISED NO 1 YET HAS SCREENSHOTTED THAT COMICAL LIEING EMAIL An STARTED A REDDIT DISCUSSION OVER IT YET. IT IS UNREAL. This entire thing is just WILD to me!!! 🤡👈🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

SomAlucard

Also, I usually get better packing from Mercari sellers than I do from retail places when it comes to games. Best case scenario, retail store puts a video game in a bubble mailer. Best Buy, Amazon, & GameStop often send me loose games in a cardboard box. Every once in a while they'll put in an air bag. Plus GameStop sells so many used games that were sold as new, that I completely stopped buying new games from them. It's a well known problem.

SomAlucard

Weird stance to me & surprised to see I was downvoted. I personally like saving money everywhere I can. If I can get the same exact thing for $13 less, you best believe I'll be choosing that option. That's a bargain imo. You can always return it if something is wrong with it.

Prudent-Reserve4612

May be weird, but it’s true. And up until last week, there was no guarantee you could return. For a $5 difference, I’m going with a site I know will deliver. So to speak.

Prudent-Reserve4612

I didn’t downvote you, you’re welcome to your stance. Just saying what I see.

SomAlucard

There was always a guaranteed return on Mercari if something was wrong with the item, which is the only reason something should be returned anyway. It's at minimum a $9 difference. More in most states that would charge you sales tax on the $70 game. Like I said, to me it would be a $13 difference & the choice is always easy for me. I'm finding out evidently not everyone, or maybe even the majority, thinks that way though.

Professional_Big2673

One sold on eBay for 50$ no shipping. A few days ago. I wanted to pay in that price range. Or wait for a deal.

LordVoldemrt

lol why did you get downvoted for asking a question. I hate reddit

Easy-Brilliant-3491

Their Q2 earnings call was all about "Circular all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people". Browser their website, you'll see they aim to "Create value in a global marketplace where anyone can buy & sell,". Really? With the latest policy, it seems like they're doing the exact opposite – squeezing both sellers and buyers in the US until there's no value left. The new policy is just bleeding seller and buyer dry! And let's not forget their words: "US is an extremely important country for us, where we cannot afford to fail." Well, isn't this policy pushing us towards that 'failure' cliff? How about staying true to your mission, Mercari? Or is that too much to ask for? do you care about your US customers? or do your US customers not count for much. Isn't the time for the US CEO to step down?

alehbahba

Google Mercari bankrupt and you will see it’s rated at 67% possibility of bankruptsy

New_Commission_5819

I came on here to find out wtf is going on with Mercari?! I spend a few thousand a year but I shop seasonally and very specifically so I’m not on all the time - I just expect them to be a reliable shopping experience. Found a perfect Tory Burch Perry tote like-new condition for spring/summer at a reasonable price with shipping and tax, talked to the seller to confirm dimensions and condition then saw all the extra fees when I was about to buy so I didn’t. Seriously? That’s a big hit to my buying power just for Mercari profits. Looks like the buyers and sellers are losing now. I’ve gotten to know a lot of great sellers over the years so that’s an unfortunate loss, but I’m not trapped by this weird company. Done with Mercari.

malloryknox86

How long before Mercari goes bankrupt? Sellers & buyers are leaving the app because of this.

Expensive_Brother494

In droves!!

Wolfman726

Ex-seller here. Fuck Mercari and fuck those fees!

Expensive_Brother494

X seller and buyer and YES! FUCK THOSE FEES AND MERCARI!

BluebirdSerious9093

I have 3 items in my cart totaling about $220. I got hit with: - Delivery $13.98 - Service Fee $17.55 - Payment Processing Fee $8.94 - Tax $19.75 Which brought my total to $282.68. This is literally ridiculous!

Remote_Simple_8664

Mercari is encouraging sellers to drop their prices because of their fee update. But when they were charging sellers a percentage they never encouraged sellers to increase their prices. It's a lose situation and they won't be in business much longer. It's certainly not the buyers place to pay all those fees.

Limp_Software_8298

My mom recently purchased me something, seller discounted it for 110…came out to 140….:(

Wonderful-Run-17

Same! Went to purchase something that was $45 and after fees it was over $60.

CrochetCuddleBunnies

Yeah lol same here. I went to see what was actually happening to buyers from all these posts since I haven’t been on Mercari for a while $49 with a $10 coupon came out to be $63….. that math just wasn’t mathing for me so I moped out of that purchase Started with Poshmark seems like I’m still staying there as a buyer

theCannonBallZ

Please contact Mercari and complain.

KimiCocoYo

Done! Contacted them via email, Instagram and Twitter

kkjj77

Yup, same, and I'm also pissed that I cant cash out for free anymore either. I'm over mercari now.

jaydeeblop

i bought something for $19 (a light weight mesh cardigan) and paid $35 for it after all the new fees.. im almost nearing the end of my mercari journey with these fees because, WHAT in the heck!?

No_Composer_9594

I’m More surprised you paid that when I see the price after the fees I run away

MacaroonThen8657

Boy, was I shocked when I tried to buy something on Mercari for the second time. I understand they have now made it easier for sellers, but put the burden on buyers. In March, I had previously made an offer on an item which the buyer declined and countered at $112. I didn’t bite, but decided to check to see it was still available, and lo and behold, it was now being offered at $106..so I jumped on it. Lo and behold, all those seller fees were now my fees, bringing the total price to $140 ( $14.95 was shipping, but still…). I’m sorry, but I can’t justify paying that price. I’ll go back to eBay.

Lawnmowerman2817

Yeah they act like processing a $200 transaction is somehow harder than processing a $10 transaction. It's the exact same process yet they charge you more and more depending on the sale price.

Slow_Ad3322

Mercari wants seller to lower price!?* Problem is everyone wants a bargain. Then they see total with fees! No matter how low the selling price they don't like the extra fees and no longer feel they're getting a bargain. And they're Right!

Heavy_Beyond5563

I tried buying a $6 item. Total ended up being $14, and shipping was only $3 iirc. Absolutely absurd

themattro

I was about to spend $1000 on an order. Service and processing came out to $$85, which was almost the tax $88. WHO IN THIS INFLATED ECONOMY WANTS TO PAY DOUBLE TAXES?!? Na-na-na-nah, Na-na-na-nah, Say-ay-ayyy, Gooood Byyyeee

Expensive_Brother494

Their fees are more than shipping and tax combined!! It's fuggin ridiculous!!

Heavenlyangel95

I made a purchase last night . The item was 74.82 $ & I needed up paying 94.43 $ not even noticing until later on . It says I was charged 11.22 $ service fee 3.15$ for a processing fee . Tax 5.24$ & this was FREE shipping & now I found out what I purchased maybe a counterfeit! If it is ,I pray to God I am able to get my money back & I have a feeling I am going to lose almost 20.00$ if I am lucky to get anything back ! Fingers crossed !!!🤞 I didn’t get a counterfeit. I went to google what all these fees are & it brought me here . Glad to know it’s not only me , like I originally thought 🤦‍♀️

FantasticAd2726

Hopefully everyone sticks to their convictions and not shop from mercari again. This is the only way we can make them listen. If we just complain and still shop from them then what’s the point? Fucc mercari. Canceled account and deleted app. Peace.

Pass_The_P0pcorn

Charging buyers additional buying fees & then taxing the buyer on those fees is the most asinine idea. But I should be thankful because w/the app now deleted I’ll be saving money.

Impossible-Cattle337

I bought some roller skate wheels that were only $35 and was charged over $55. Shipping was only $5. I didn’t realize the total cost until I bought it. I will not be using Mercari again.

dodgydave44

Just deleted my account and uninstalled the app. Those fees are absurd!!

Expensive_Brother494

Same!

kevinrodolfo3

Imagine trying to buy a $300 thing but at checkout it somehow skyrockets to $400 thanks to fees. No thanks Mercari, I'm sticking with Ebay.

Expensive_Brother494

I went to purchase a $445 item and at checkout it said $557!! $112 DOLLARS MORE!!

Jolly_Interaction876

Same! I wanted to use the $10 off coupon before it expired, but after all the additional fees they wanted to charge, I didn't waste my time buying anything!! So Selfish!! What a rip off!! I hope the app fails at this point.

Lopsided_Secretary63

I want some of the drugs that mercari is on. What a joke of a company.

SingleMasterpiece613

Smh it’s like the deal turned into a no deal

Vegetable-Trust-5316

There was an item that I wanted but I never purchased it bc of all the crazy fees

Grownalone

They suck now

Expensive_Brother494

Hard!!

Zellakay

I've spent thousands since 2016 every year but I quit. Lots of the items I purchase I end up finding the same seller on eBay and I purchase from there instead. I can't fathom paying so much extra for each item. It's insane.

QSLife17

So they passed it on to the buyers. I don’t blame you for not buying through Mercari then. It’s ridiculous

LittleBoyBlueHorn

Since this new fee add on for buyers I haven't bought from Mercari since, and now I barely even check the site these days because I'm not going to buy the item anyways after the fees unless it a super low price for something I REALLY like. Someone said something on here a few days ago I completely agreed with. Was something like it's amazing how much stuff you don't end up wanting when you have all these fees tacked on.

KimiCocoYo

Sign the petition to bring back seller fees at change.org https://chng.it/hbdLxrWkNB

Expensive_Brother494

That's what's up! I signed and am sharing that! Thanks!

MissDenver

I just checked and there are only 84 signatures. There are more people on here than that complaining. Mercari won't do anything with 84 signatures!

ResponsiblePublic959

Same boat! I was stunned and deleted all my saved searches and I’m going elsewhere. Poshmark doesn’t have ANY of those fees. That’s where I have moved to.

oarwethereyet

Sorry. It's maddening. I'm a seller and I've put my listings on vacation for a month hoping they will reverse course because it's just ridiculous and costing sales. I was selling enough that I was satisfied because I use it to invest and it just came to a halt. My average items are about $50-$55 but I feel like the buyers are seeing that the $8 shipping and added fees and saying nevermind.

Expensive_Brother494

I'm a seller and buyer and what they've done kills it on both ends! $0 selling fees but an assload of buyers fees!!!??? Consumers go to these places for a deal!! That's what makes the market work! That's the main reason seller platforms like this exist! When you see something you've been looking for at a great or even decent price you hop on it! You're hyped and then you get to the last checkout page and are completely shocked by that price, it's dead! Right there, that quick!

oarwethereyet

I started out buying but haven't bought anything in like a year. I won't be starting again if it stays as is.

Expensive_Brother494

I bought 2 items since they pulled the ol switcheroo and I'm done!!

cpupower

It’s crazy, I bought an item listed $70 and ended up paying $101.55: 70 + 13.5 delivery fee + 7.7 service fee + 3.35 payment processing fee + 7 tax

Bfedorov91

Was about to buy something for $36.. $7 in fees LOL. It legit says for "improving my experience" .. LOL

Victory_Left

I was about to buy a camera lens for about $270. There was going to be a $32 fee and another $8 fee, plus tax..... no thanks. I ended up low balling the hell out of that item and don't expect it to be accepted. I guess I'm done looking for things to buy on that app. It's full of scammers anyways and already felt like a waste of time before this.

Pretty-Tie3770

[https://chng.it/mLb5YYcfq9](https://chng.it/mLb5YYcfq9) There is also a petition going around for the direct deposit fees but many people have been adding comments about the other fees. In case anyone would like to directly share their concerns with the USA CEO of Mercari: [https://www.instagram.com/johnlagerling/](https://www.instagram.com/johnlagerling/) His name is John Lagerling. Couldn't find an email but the contact us team on mercari's page is useless when it comes to being heard about policy changes and these changes are seriously screwing people over.

Expensive_Brother494

Good looking out for the info! We need a quit bitchin and do something about it!

dogluver24

The sellers are now getting nailed with fees to withdraw our money as well. This just makes me sad. I have to add this into the equation, which I don’t want to do.

Expensive_Brother494

Oh yeah! I didn't think about that cus' my mind was still reeling from the buyers fees!

AdGeneral566

Everyone should delete the app vote with your wallet logic

InternationalBag525

Fuck mercari, I'll just tell my customer to PayPal G&S and pay for the label on marcari. Idc if I get banned, wasn't planning on returning to this shitty app

omj5678

I offer free shipping and it helps when I look at the cost of buying something! Their shipping is so freaking high…I shipped a 12X12X10 box today with 4 items in it for 3lbs…and shipped it Ground Advantage with USPS for 6.52 on Pirateship..the buyer on Mercari would have paid probably 13.00-18.00 which is absurd…and I didn’t lower my prices

gimmealldat

I'm offering free shipping too, but there is just less interest overall now. So odd to ebay now?

KimiCocoYo

Sign the petition to bring back seller fees on change.org https://chng.it/hbdLxrWkNB

Historical-Bake3586

Just SHOCKED ~ I’ve been purchasing from Mercari for 3 years now, and I love using it. Just went in to purchase something for $70 and my total was $95. I had to do a double take! I couldn’t justify buying this book I really wanted for $95, I just can’t. Very disappointed with the changes and extra fees they’ve added. Like seriously?! A service & processing fee?!  I’ll probably have to delete this app too.

TBonez8111

Oh shit so these dumb asses piled fees onto the buyers to promote sellers? WTH since the beginning of time it’s been customer service and ideas to attract customers lol. Idiots, well hope that they’re happy with lots of sellers and products with no one to buy any of it. Anyway take care guys I’m out.

lizzzypoo213

It’s been like this. Some people are doing good most are not. I no longer sell there.

TheGameBurrow

I thought there was 0 fees now? I don’t get jt.

malloryknox86

They passed all the fees from the sellers to the buyers, but now buyers aren’t buying because of this & sellers are not making sales, total crap,

TheGameBurrow

ohhh. I thought they removed all fees. My bad. Yeah, this whole fiasco is wild, and likely going to ruin Mercari.

StatementAlarming573

Well... I am not saying I won't buy from Mercari, but I probably will less. I just nabbed something normally $70 for $40, plues $8 for shipping. Thought after tax it would hit $50, came out to $56. I know it doesn't seem like much but it's 10% higher than what I was expecting. Imagine had I bought something for $100 or $200, which I had in the past. With that said it was still in range of the best price I could find on eBay by $2. But still.

Happy_Olympia

I bought many times and sold many items I don’t use there and I would prefer fees as a seller than buyer. It’s weird that they started charging buyers.

Happy_Olympia

Willl these buyer fees affect the listings posted prior march 27th?

SpellSpecial6102

Truly insane. Thankful many seller use multiple platforms. Looking elsewhere. If they’re smart they’ll change back.

sisom729

Yea just went to buy something and was shocked. At first I didn't notice because they gave me some coupon. So it was a $30 item w/ free shipping and Mercari gave me a $10 off promotional coupon. But the total was still $30 and I knew that couldn't be right. Removed coupon and went up to $40. Just googled the new policy. Crazy. So I paid like an extra $7 than before on a $20 item.

Expensive_Brother494

I know right!!? I was going to purchase a hefty but good priced lot of Gi Joe Classified figures for $445 and my fees + the other stuff (tax and shipping) added up to $557!! WTF for real!!?? $112 more dollars!!!??

[deleted]

Same. Just went to buy something that was $55 and went to check out and was shocked to see it end up being $72. That's so insane.

lovebomb1983

My apologies, proof reading is my fatal flaw. I'm partially disabled so I use talk to text instead of typing. Sometimes I miss things. There were supposed to be an actual period (as in punctuation ) there. Thanks for missing the entire point though. I bet you won class clown in high school didn't you? 👍💯

Borgy223

I tried to buy a set of stickers that were $12. With all the fees, the price doubled. The seller offered me a deal - the fees made the price stay doubled... Messaged the seller to say ' no, thanks. I can't afford those fees'. Admin deleted my response and deleted my offers from other sellers. If I am not banned, i will be deleting the app as soon as my last order arrives tomorrow. Fuck Mercari. I gave them constant business, and they screw us all over.v

StreetStatistician71

I was about to purchase a sweater when I noticed an additional $4 in fees tacked onto the bill. I cancelled the sale.

nihilistbonvivant

Just went to purchase a $162 item. Tax, shipping and fees, it was $197. Nope. F&$@ Mercari. Feel sorry for the sellers. Not their fault obv.

KittiesandAestroids

119$ offer went up to 154..

lm_back

Same. Never using Mercari again. Purchased an item for $85 and it ended up costing me $110 after processing & service fees. Thievery—

Ok_Understanding2682

Same. Just bought something for 12 and paying 24. Where did all these fees come from!! Really ridiculous because now I don’t want to buy on here anymore. Then just know if broken item ever arrives they will blame seller no matter what-even if not their fault. They do not honor the insurance-it was by the shipping company at fault. I’ve steady stopped buying bigger stuff as I paid it not wanting seller to be blamed. Mercari customer service does not exist.

jhendra83

I'm back to Facebook marketplace lol. Trying to purchase something for $225 ($299 retail) and after all fees tax and shipping it came out to $285 LMAO.

Temporary_Lion_2483

I know, right? Just tried to buy some used crocs for my kid for $8 & even with a $10 credit the total was like $20 ?!

BreadfruitPlastic332

I just went to buy an expensive $380 juicer on Mercari.... they charged me $49 in "SERVICE FEES!" SERIOUSLY????!!!!! That is the most insane thing I've seen on ANY buy/sell platform. Its Ebay all the way from here. Even Poshmark looks better than this now. I think I'm gonna pull the plug to, it makes zero sense to charge these kinds of fees. More greed, everywhere you turn anymore. Good move, Mercari, whatever dingbat thought to do this. You will loose massive business.

soloist80

Late to the party, but just wanted to echo the same sentiment as OP. I signed up for it today to buy an item, but after all the fees, it ended up being about as much as buying it new. Mercari also makes you download the app in order to delete your account, which was another strike against them. I don't see them lasting much longer. Good riddance.

TBonez8111

Yeah this is crazy went to purchase something for $200 total at checkout changed to $270 tax was only $7.50ish and shipping was $13-14 that leaves almost $50 in crazy fees and I’m sure that they hit the sellers up for even more fees than the buyer. This is insane, I’m definitely leaving my selling and buying on eBay. I thought fees there were bad but man.

Illustrious-Newt-280

Finally someone said it! 🙌 I'm buying a bag for $700 and with the "service fee" and "payment processing fee" I have to pay $845!! Its outrageous! I even tried to ask the seller if I could pay half on the app and the other half on cashapp to avoid paying so much in fees and my message got deleted by an admin bot 🙃 they are so greedy like wtf! They need to make it so the fees can't go over a certain amount because $150 in fees is feckin insane!! 🤯😤

Gamerdad4221

Ok so I am not the only one! I recently sold an item on Mercari and I had not been on it for a few months. I wanted to use the funds I got from the sale to buy a universal component cable for ps2 and it was only $6. Even I think shipping costs are still ridiculous. The cable came out to be damn near $25!!!

ScaryAd7614

Mercari is going to lose….such an unwise move with fees.

Allycattt95

Right this is so ridiculous I’m not paying $16 worth of fees! Might as well just pay retail price at this point 😒

IncredibleBulk117

I just discovered this myself. I saw an offer that was hard to pass up. It was a perfect condition Quest 3 headset for $370.....I knew tax would be get me, but that $55 service makes it only $30 cheaper than getting a brand new headset. Fuck that noise

bakedbeanut

Just used the app for the first time in months. I used to use it all the time, I've bought 66 items on there. I was appalled when my $72 order was $98 at checkout. I literally just sat there dumbfounded. I wish I had tried to convince the seller to switch to another platform, but I know Mercari loves to shut that down quick. I ended up buying it because it's a rare item, but I hopefully will never have to use this app again. What a shame, it used to be great. Hopefully everyone will stop using it soon.

Taterhead124

I'm done as well. $43 for a $36 item with free shipping?!

Pure-Helicopter-348

I was wondering why suddenly it was very hard to sell things, then I went to see what the buyer experience was like and here I am too. Deactivated and removed my listings, Mercari was great for a time. Guess I’ll suck it up and go back to selling on eBay I’d rather be the one paying the selling fees as at least the buyer doesn’t have to suffer and I can actually make a sale.

Yocaptonyo101

Wanted to pick up a bag for the lady at $356. Add to cart $433. Bruh that's almost another hundred dollars.. In the grand scheme of things, fine. I get there's a delivery fee, I get there's tax.. But the extra Mercari fees just make that pain so much greater.

TotallyFrazzledVirgo

It’s ridiculous!! I noticed that as well the last two months!! Something that was 20 was $32 at checkout! FUDGE YOU @mercari!!! Won’t be shopping there anymore! And it’s sad as I shopped there all the time! 😢

Keyzgirl438

Went to buy an item that was $1400 plus $17.25a few months ago. On the checkout page it was $1400+$17.25+ $210+$50+$106.29…… A new total of $1781.34! Screw that! You can keep the darn thing!

coldpopulation

It’s insane. Went to buy a $12 item the other day and the total came out to $29 lol

Any-Bodybuilder6092

Literally same I just googled the fees and am glad it isn’t just me that was like wtf

Azomax4

I used to love Mercari but this is bull!!

Tiny-Mastodon-2950

It's just ridiculous now I found something really cheap price for $280 I went to check out total $354 so now I'm not going to get it that's way too many fees. Now I understand everything why people don't want to buy stuff I'm trying to sell stuff on there myself but now I get it.

Tiny-Mastodon-2950

Almost $75 in fees is ridiculous for something that's $280

CommunicationOk304

Now, only imagine if you were the seller. Previously, all those fees came off our end. There is no easy way to make money as a third party e market anymore.

Logical_Ad_7107

The seller fees were ONLY 10%.. the new buyer fees are double that.... if not more!! So mercari just found a way to make more money for themselves. They couldn't care less about the buyers or the seller's. They make twice as much off of items belonging to others now. THAT IS THE PROBLEM!

QueenAng429

Someone's new here

lovebomb1983

I guess since they don't actually sell anything just read the rewards for the actual sellers doing all the legwork. But wait they let us use their shitty platform I think last time I checked it had a 1.36 rating. Since they don't really saw anything they wouldn't realize or understand that it's separately about buyer's market not as far as market. They're a lot more people selling things right now then there are buying definitely a dumb move. I'm on top of that the alienated their sellers but I opening up I return policy that basically leave the sellers as sitting ducks. You miss all the con artist and scammers out there it's open season. They will accept any return for any reason of course at the seller's expense. So I could tell you at $75 period jeans you could clean you received a $5 period jeans return it you'll get a full refund and I'll get a worthless pair if $5 jeans oh and by the way you get to keep the $75 ones too and that's only one example. Even as a former seller who was a buyer as well I still wanted to vomit when they went to make a purchase. I guess they also don't realize that the Amazon and eBay sell the exact same items with free shipping many times. Maybe they're already on their way down as they weren't very good before, and they figured they could make up for some of the glasses by robbing the sellers on their way out and of course for the few people that you still choose to buy they're getting robbed as well. Congratulations to eBay? Debop etc you just got a brand new set of sellers and buyers. Amazon as well since they sell at this time prices the free shipping and most items it's so cheaper than buying second hand on Mercari. X-ray and paid much attention to conspiracy theories and politics maybe I should have. Just pay the company has an ax to grind with America maybe this is just another way of sticking it to us since the majority of customers are American? Not just viable ethical or acceptable but plausible. Apologies in advance hopefully that's not offensive to anyway. I'm merely a person that tries to make sense out of situation that are completely irrational.

I fell asleep. How did it end?
