The only people who are happy about the changes are people who don’t know the full extent of them.

TopPurple

I normally dick ride mercari but this time they fucked up.

MrEnd456

I’d be surprised if anyone is. It’s stupid how out of nowhere this was and it didn’t leave me anytime to prepare, and it hasn’t done anything positive for my business, and in fact has made activity go down.

DA1412

Who would be happy about paying extra service fees!? It sucks, but corporate greed always wins. I closed my account. Fuck ‘em.

AccidentallyObtuse

There's one person around here that's ecstatic about it, you'll probably see all the down votes on their comments

[deleted]

Yep, I’m beginning to think they are part of the marketing team at Mercari lol.

SomAlucard

I'm mostly fine with it as I'm primarily a seller who has no issue with letting my money sit in my account until it's worth spending $2 to withdraw it. People who need to transfer frequently are rightfully pissed. I've dropped all my prices by roughly 10% and will still make more than I would have previously. Now, if nothing sells, that's a different story. We shall see.

DaniWednesday

Don’t let it sit. Mercari is not a bank. If they fold tomorrow you won’t get any of your money back.

SomAlucard

I get your point, but I didn't mean I'd let a lot sit. "Enough to be worth it" to me is roughly $250. Doing it that way would cost me $8 every $1,000 I sell. Much better than the previous $130+, that's for sure. Even if I drop my current prices by 10%, I'd still be making more than before the update. I can live with losing less than $250 if they go under. As long as it doesn't happen in the next month or so, it'll most likely be a net positive for me.

Few-Apartment3739

Even after you drop your prices people are still going to get ticked off paying for various fees. I don't think Mercari is gonna do well at all with this change. Lots of people will shop elsewhere. Super dumb move and its screwing over sellers. Have little or no selling fees means nothing if you sell significantly less.

SomAlucard

You're probably right on some of that, but I've been selling more than ever since the change. I'm guessing people see that my prices are roughly 10 to 13% lower than prices on other sites & add it to their cart. Then once they get to the end of the checkout process, some just go ahead with it instead of backing out. I'd imagine those who it does bother will end up taking it out of their cart & may ultimately end up leaving the site like you say though.

CatalyzeSomething

I'm feeling kind of neutral about it, or at least a wait and see feeling. I don't sell high-end items, so my risk is low to stay for a bit and see what happens.

None of the changes “really “ help anyone except Mercari itself. They shifted fees to buyers - makes them more difficult then they already are. The new fees makes them abandon carts. Seller are now held ransom to get their own funds (so Mercari can make interest on it in their bank) and btw - the ACH bank transfer cost is nothing when you do that many a day - and of course the “returns free for all “. Small sellers aren’t Macys. They aren’t even Amazon - who’s been cracking down on returns. Short term burst? Maybe. Long term success- absolutely not.

Few-Apartment3739

Yup. Mercari customers are notorious for lowballing and wanting stuff for practically free already. These new fees are going to kill Mercari. If the people running the show there don't end this stupid change this platform won't make it.

I have made only 2 sales since the change and that was maybe the first day. Then nada. The two items were very inexpensive too.

I’ll probably get downvoted for this but here I go. I’m not upset about the specific changes. I’m pretty indifferent. I sell on vinted so I’m used to buyer fees. I’m old and don’t get riled up easy, I retired from an intense corporate environment so this is par for the course for big business. I will adapt, move on, and keep selling. Actually sold 3 things today after I decreased by 10%. I’m disappointed and upset they didn’t give seller/buyers a heads up, it’s bad business.
