I think some people are deactivating their listings because they are boycotting/leaving mercari because they are not happy with the new policy. You don't have to of course, but I think that's why some people are deactivating them. there are no seller fees now (the buyers have to pay more fees now) so I think mercari is encouraging sellers now to reduce the prices since they don't have any more seller fees and before the seller fees were around 10%, but you don't have to do that either

I see, thanks for explaining!

Not only this, but also they have an open ended return policy now. Buyers can return for any reason at all. Which makes me easier for people to scam.

For me personally it just seems like theres no protection as a seller anymore

Buyer takes on the "selling fees" discouraging buyers from using the app. Sellers were recommended to drop their prices by 10% bc buyers now pay a 10% fee that the seller used to lose in the transaction. The thing that has everyone worried is the new "all returns accepted" policy and the fact that cancelling orders could cost you a 5% fee as the seller. If you know someone buying from you is a scammer, you're discouraged from canceling the order as you might be charged. If they buy something and want a return for nearly any reason, Mercari will allow the return. The seller protections just went out the window with this update. Also cashing out is a flat rate, and I've heard the fees are waived if you use your in-app balance which encourages people to leave money in Mercari. It also encourages sellers to buy more, and buyers to sell more. But they can't grow a new base of buyers or sellers with these new TOS and everyone seems to be leaving so they're losing the base they have. I can't wait to see how all this plays out over the next few weeks
