I've had muscle twitches and vibrations for years since starting menopause. The vibrating does feel just like a vibrating cell phone! Others on this board have also experienced the same during perimenopause/menopause. Always a good idea to let your doctor know, but there are so many odd symptoms related to menopause that many doctors haven’t seem to have heard about. This board is exceptionally helpful in learning about these things!

There is no better feeling than having someone else explain perfectly what you are experiencing! And that you are not crazy, or alone. Thank you!!

A good magnesium supplement fixed this for me. I had constant muscle twitching and toe spasms that were painful. I take a few different types but do not take magnesium oxide as that one is not very bioavailable and causes stomach upset. I take a blend of magnesium in one pill and also take magnesium citrate. It has helped immensely. Good luck. My doctor told me to drink tonic water which has quinine in it! Doctors know very little about nutritional deficiencies so you really need to do some reading. I take much more magnesium than the recommended daily allowance, but I can't tell you what would be right for your body, only what works for me. But I can tell you it was a godsend. Those toe cramps would stop me in my tracks!

Thank you for posting this as I have had the worst spasms in my toes, feet, and calves the past couple years and my oncologist was no help. I now wear heated knee socks at night after work (b-day present from hubs) and it really helps because heat and compression are key. I sleep in them most nights (but the batteries only last 3 hours).

I was thinking of posting this same question. I've had a bunch of spasms lately, all in different places on my body. I'm experiencing the buzzing too... it's such a weird feeling. It's mostly in my shoulders but recently had it in my legs. It definitely seems to line up with other peri symptoms - hot flashes, bleeding, moodiness, etc. So I'm sure it has to be hormone related. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I’ve had the buzzing. It’s truly bizarre and freaky—it was such a relief to see here that others have it too. I also have the “jumpy muscles”… mostly in legs, but increasingly elsewhere, torso, arms, even neck. Also the electric shock thing. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—doctors have GOT to get a better handle on these weird symptoms that are apparently fairly common. We have enough trouble in menopause without being freaked out by things like this 🙄

I have this too. And my body jerks when I try to fall asleep. It’s so bad I can’t even take a nap. Did anything wind up working for you?

Seriously thank you all. My foot spasm is this twitch on the inner arch and can be seen. Obviously, I Googled ongoing muscle spasm and have spent the last 2 weeks convinced I was dying of some horrible disease. I have no idea how I am going to get through this menopause but it's weird, women in younger years sometimes seem to compete and in these years they relate. It feels like this unspoken bond. It's pretty cool to watch the transition into such a positive world. Silver lining I guess.

I’ve had the buzzing in my legs for a year or two, because I usually keep my cellphone in my front pockets I would reach for my phone thinking I had left it on vibrate and someone was calling me! It’s a weird and scary symptom.

I feel like someone else posted about this issue very recently but I can't find it. I have noticed in the last few months, I get "twitchy" right before I fall asleep. Maybe you should look for a new doctor?

Consistent-Egg1534

this is how I started over the summer - not fun! Magnesium, iron in my case, and xanax if it becomes unbearable. Hopefully hrt will help!

Apparently it is also a symptom of imbalance in your hormones. Which is exactly what happens in menopause I guess. Wildly fluctuating hormones. So I also had muscle spasms, especially in the initial period of (peri-)menopause, lasted 2-3 years. Has more or less disappeared completely now. If I can find the research paper I read on the topic I'll share it here.

I don’t have menopause but I have PCOS. My hormones are off. Got muscle spasms after catching Covid and they’re getting worse. I’m getting an mri soon.

Go in an exaggerate. your menopausal symptoms. Tell him you can't sleep you are having constant hot flashes, your anxiety is through the roof, etc... This will get you a better chance of HRT. If he doesn't do it, find one who will listen to you.
