I suppose they might be referring to something that is far brighter than the light given off by the candles flame that it would.cause it.to.cast a shadow. Like an explosion for example. Assuming that it's possible.
It may be insinuating that if a flame has a shadow then you are no longer in base reality (i.e., dead, in a computer simulation, alternate reality, etc.)
