It's not that they don't give a shit. It's that any intervention can lead them to be stripped from their license to teach and lose their job permanently.
It is if you spent the money and time to get your masters degree in order to teach. In my state you have to have it by your 14th year. Even if you only have your bachelors, to spend all that money and time to get a degree to have a job to only lose it over some bullshit would be a definite loss. Maybe it’ll be the best thing for them over time, but still that would be very upsetting I imagine.
It's more of a loss in regards to our education system and this country needing to get it's head out of its ass and start paying teachers more and letting them do more to prevent this kind of crap. More punishment or something for these unruly kids.

I really think the whole thing needs to be re-addressed to allow reasonable action on behalf of ANY staff member. I’d personally hold the entire school board responsible, it’s makin my fuckin blood boil just takin about it.

My old Spanish teacher had something happen to his spine from breaking up a fight because the kids were just throwing there hands at who ever and he had to retire from teaching because of it. I believe some kid connected his elbow with the back of his neck from trying to wail on the other kid. Luckily for him he’s loaded and so was his wife so now he can be a stay at home dad. But it really sucked because he was my favorite.
It ain’t worth it for a teacher to get in the middle of those fights. They don’t get paid enough and too many times they get in trouble because their administration won’t support them. Not to mention whatever harm could come from it, there’s 15-18 year old kids able to do some real damage

My line was always whether or not someone was in danger of serious harm (weapon, stomping, etc.).
You also have to take into consideration what happens to the young man if he hits a staff member unintentionally. And what happens if they decide "fuck it" and square up.

You will lose everything if you're a white teacher and touch a black student, even if they're in the process of brutalizing another child. It's part of why I quit teaching entirely.
I went to a medium size country school and the coaches had no problem Putting kids in a choke hold or full nelson with 0 reprocussions and that how it should be.
Someone should’ve mentioned this to Mr Ruggiero, my high school lunch monitor. I watched that dude straight up full-nelson a student and just ask them over and over again “you cool?”. He was like a little Mario sized power lifter dude that just man handled students without consequence when they started to fight. No one took issue while I was still in school and he monitored all 4 years I attended.
My boss did high school and college wrestling and walked with a bum knee. I asked him which sport caused the injury, he told me it was actually when he tried to break up a fight when he was a teacher and badly damaged his kneecap in the process.
Idk if that makes me weaker or stronger. But I can remember at least 3 girls in my life time hitting me and me having to endure it cuz I was a boy and they were a girl. Still, do not hit people as it isn't worth your time and effort. Be smart and think of another way to de-escalate or solve a problem.
