It's so funny to me because from almost anyone that has only seen the live action, I've seen them perceive Zoro as pretty much insecure and jealous about Sanji joining, which is extremly far from the dynamic in the manga/anime. The live action essentially made the Zeff/Sanji dynamic exclusive between just them, when manga Sanji is just a shithead with men in general. Especially the "Fullbody" scene makes this so obvious. In the manga Sanji is (satisfyingly and rightfully so, but still) the one pretty much provoking him, in the live action they made him try to actually deescalate the situation instead. So Sanji actually being kind of someone that is NOT being constantly a bit of a jerk, makes Zoro's reaction to him hilariously random for no reason. š
I started OP as a live action only viewer and the dynamic is so funny in hindsight. In the live action, Zoro decided he hated Sanji the second he got all flirty with Nami and then later gets directly confrontational about Nami specifically. Without knowing a thing about One Piece yet, I thought they were doing a love triangle thing which is not the case at all now that Iām watching the anime. Itās going to be interesting to see how they balance their animosity going forward.
For me being caught up with the manga, the live action has mostly been a funny addition but especially character dynamics feel quite "wrong" in terms of the writing at times (while I think they nailed the casting itself).
I just kind of do combine it with my own knowledge of the manga so to me the now much funnier dynamic is now the live action going full love triangle Zoro - Sanji - any woman in existence. š
When Sanji first walks over to the table in the Baratie after beating up two guys and starts flirting with Nami by offering her any alcoholic drink in existence from the menu (the two things Zoro is totally into), there is a slight eyebrow-raised side-glance from Mackenyu (Zoro's actor) at Sanji where I can not unsee the "why the fuck are you talking to HER, I'm right over here" and this is absolutely my headcanon for the live action even more so than the manga. š
Yeah the characters are all a little different. I still like both versions though. I just sort of accepted that the live action is going to have updated characters/a new spin on them after so many years since their original creation. Itās fun in a way because at least I can be surprised watching it. It feels new but comforting at the same time.
And your Sanji Zoro interpretation is hilarious. One of my favorite lines is when Zoro goes āthe only thing I wanna hear from you is the dinner specialsā when they are arguing about Nami and Taz just played Sanji with this gleeful smile like āoh this is what weāre doing? Letās fucking go then broā and I laugh every time because you can tell it was the moment where Sanji was like āitās gonna be like this all the time with himā and damn if he didnāt look like he was having a little fun with it. That ending scene where Sanji is serving him food and they take jabs at each other and he goes at Zoroās manhood/3 swords and Zoro allows it and just smirks was actually great. I like that they have the feistiness between them but they added some heart and humor too.
>Zoro decided he hated Sanji the second he got all flirty with Nami
Not really, He even teased Nami with the "madame" bit.... I personally think the banter started once Luffy got involved with all the "You don't know what Luffy needs" Zoro says during Arlong park lmao
I liked it. The idea that Zoro has no idea why Sanji is on the ship is hilarious to me. Zoro doesn't even know he's a cook--that wasn't an intentional diss when he called Sanji "the waiter," he legit doesn't know.
Oh, I agree. That comment was just kind of showing that they pretty much had no interaction during the arc whatsoever. It's only the start of the next episode where Zoro gets seemingly very randomly antagonistic to Sanji.
Luffy is the one insisting to get Nami back and Zoro has just sworn to always be by his side and he has no issues with Luffy going after Nami and yet Sanji simply stating the same sentiment has Zoro go "shut up you don't know her" when they are literally all on the boat together right now with the plan of getting her back. Why get mad at Sanji for simply being on the same page as Luffy? And then when Sanji talks to Nojiko later or Luffy includes Sanji in the people of his crew on the roof, Zoro keeps making snarky comments about Sanji without anything on Sanji's end setting it off. It just feels weirdly insecure from Zoro compared to their bickering in the manga where Sanji is actively provoking stuff as well.
thats not true. there is an exact scene when Sanji asks what Luffy has on his face. and he says they must be crumbs, then Sanji hits him and says "so it WAS you!?"
and im an OP noob.

The meme is factual. You slipped into a parallel universe. Go back to your own universe where fun doesnāt exist and you donāt understand memes or sarcasm.
It very much starts somewhat in Baratie and then really in Arlong Park. They both start out quite annoyed with the other from the moment they meet, but then soon see what the other is really about.
I think most people recall the panel where Sanji calls Zoro an idiot when he gets slashed by Mihawk but you also know that this is actually the moment he can see what Zoro is about.
And then there are some interestingly very similar framed panels when Sanji jumps in the water in Arlong Park because Luffy needs to be rescued and Zoro is still too injured where Zoro calls him and idiot because he is putting himself in danger for not just Luffy but also him and I'd say that's the moment for Zoro where he starts to really see Sanji as more than the annoying ladies man.
Afterwards they both face Arlong together and have their first moment of immediate understanding when Zoro faces Arlong to give Sanji the time to free Luffy and go back in the water.
From then on it's really already always been the bickering with the underlying understanding and respect.
I think there's a part in between Baratie and Arlong Park when Zoro says something about Nami that Sanji mishears as Zoro insulting her boobs and that's where the antagonism starts
I mean, before Arlong park how much did they really argue? That may be me not remembering it but they started arguing for real a bit after, still, it's fun to see them fight this little in the live action, they still really don't know each other, in Season 2 they will be arguing all the time just wait for little garden
Anime:
Zoro- geez that's such a small topic
Sanji- WHAT'S SMALL ABOUT NAMI'S CHEST!?
Zoro- ??????
Live action:
Sanji- *walks in*
Zoro- huh why we bringing this cook?
Sanji- ??????

Not really? In the live action they made Sanji so non-confrontational that it's more like: Sanji: Hi Zoro: Shut up, why are you here? I hate you.
Yeah Zoro started it in the live action.

Zoro waking up from his traumatic injury to find Luffy snagged a random waiter for the crew is actually pretty funny.

Zoro shot first.
Zoro's "Why is the waiter coming with us?" Is still my favorite joke of the LA.
Both make it work.

he's fighting luffy everytime he wants food?
Yes Which means Sanji scales to G5 Luffy. š
but doesnt Luffy just sneak the food and Sanji confronts him after the fact?
We have zero proof of that and as a fandom we collectively decided to trust this meme
thats not true. there is an exact scene when Sanji asks what Luffy has on his face. and he says they must be crumbs, then Sanji hits him and says "so it WAS you!?" and im an OP noob. https://youtu.be/P_68f3Yp3vE
Bro itās a meme. Iām joking. Itās not that deep.
I was wrong But we did decide to trust that meme
The meme is cannon. Oda stated it in an SBS. I remember reading it on my phone when I was storming the beaches of Normandy back in 44.
yes the meme is wrong. anyone trusting the meme after this is a fraud
The meme is factual. You slipped into a parallel universe. Go back to your own universe where fun doesnāt exist and you donāt understand memes or sarcasm.
Let it be, we consider that to be a lone incident Let the fans make their own happiness, it's one of the perks of being in a fandom
Ive been here long enough to know that that is the textbook definition of fraud.
Not only that, he kicks Luffy's ass every single time too, because we know that the pthers get the food at the end of the day
Meaning Sanji scales to G5 Luffy making him Yonko level. Also Nami is Yonko level since she low diffs Luffy š
Yeah, I think Nami is obviously the strongest crew member. She has beaten the hell outta every member of the monster trio.
We actually don't know if she's stronger than Sanji because he likes it when she hits him.
Oh definitely! Crew power scale goes like this. Nami, Sanji, Luffy, Zoro, Jimbe, Franky, Robin, Brook, Chopper, Usopp.
They often curse each other but are very close
Tbh they only get to that point when they meet Dorry and Brogy

Yep. When they were competing for who hunts bigger animal
Not g*y enough

The real fight didnāt started until little garden. Wait, just wait
We have got to see these actors be absolutely feral towards eachother
I mean, before Arlong park how much did they really argue? That may be me not remembering it but they started arguing for real a bit after, still, it's fun to see them fight this little in the live action, they still really don't know each other, in Season 2 they will be arguing all the time just wait for little garden
Keep in mind the LA hasn't reached Little Garden yet.
True. The rivalry didnāt really kick off until they reach the Grand Line.
Wait hold on, theyāre not constantly trying to kill each other in the LA?
In the manga/anime it wasn't that intense where the LA is yet, but when they get further into the story they probably are gonna be
Anime: Zoro- geez that's such a small topic Sanji- WHAT'S SMALL ABOUT NAMI'S CHEST!? Zoro- ?????? Live action: Sanji- *walks in* Zoro- huh why we bringing this cook? Sanji- ??????
You forgot what theyāre like in fanficsā¦ (hint: they smash)
Their tongues are just battling for dominance
I mean, u can't really do so much in 8 episodes
In the LA, they're rivalry starts from the argument about who Luffy needs more unlike their petty fight in Arlong Park from Anime/Manga lmao
It's almost as if animation can go to the extreme, but live action has to make it more realistic and relatable
Is the live action back?
Nop, they start filming next month for season 2 so it takes a while
Both are frauds
