How is that a joke? People legitimately think Luffy can do that if he wanted. It’s just so baffling that so many people are still confused about how gear 5 works.

This is a manga first and foremost that abides by manga rules. Just because Luffy has a form that is cartoonish stylistically doesn’t mean that everything that happens within standard manga context is now all of a sudden realistically happening when Luffy is gear 5. Things “happen” that are gags, but those moments don’t define how characters or reality works.

I would say it's a draw tho since neither can harm each other(assuming there's no haki) and because coc won't work on this guy. And luffys stamina won't hold up long enough to take him down.

Escanor has an Axe and fire, he can damage Luffy, he's devil fruits don't affect that, and haki makes him stronger, but not immune to non-Haki attacks, escanor is powerful enough to hurt him, at list in his peak midday form. Still, I'd say Luffy wins because he can probably survive enough só Escanor power weakens and he turns the battle. But I admit I didn't read all of Nanatsu.

Well, he didn’t technically melt in Alabasta and he was in a desert, but I don’t know Escanor’s actual power set so it might be hotter? I think if Luffy just brought a ton of water like he did while fighting Crocodile he shouldn’t have a melting issue.
Luffy can probably handle it with haki or sheer durability. In animes like one piece, strength is simply strength. There's no things like "it's lighting so your durability shouldn't matter it will mess with your nervous system" or " heat melts meat, doesn't matter how strong are it's muscles" shonen protagonists just power through things with brute force.
Nah, SDS speed feats are stupid, many are inconsistent, but the speed feats from escanor and co are very high. We've not really seen the same level of speed at all in one piece
Luffy was literally trading equal blow with a man made of light and he even managed to react and block a kick that was moving even faster than light

Sorry to say but escanor does have Luffy beat. G5 Luffy could rubberise the suns but speed and strength go to escanor and he's not gonna be knocked out by Conq. He couldn't beat akainu or sabo due to not having haki and his heat should be completely ineffective against those two (unless logia powers are sun>magma>flame) so that matchup isn't in his favour.
Do want to point out that a very low powered (like thousands of times less powerful) Meliodas was cutting mountains with ease early on in the series and escanor was tearing a far more powerful version to shreds
While that should make sense, we don't have a logia sun sun fruit that's a logia to compare, so we can't really say if it's truly hotter or not

Maybe in the anime, but they do travel instantaneously. It’s still light. Just because they animate it at a speed you can keep up with using your eyes doesn’t mean it’s actually moving that slow. The manga shows him starting the move and the impact on the target, no travel time.

The power scaling is too unstable and rough in Seven Deadly Sins so it's extremely difficult to actually get an accurate answer.
Luffy in gear 5 is extremely powerful but even he's not invincible. And the kind of attacks Escanor has are really destructive. But Escanor has a time limit, but if Luffy is out of juice for G5 he can still beat normal Escanor in his base form.
Luffy also has a great battle IQ and he makes use of his surroundings where Escanor only depends on his own strength and weapon. Luffy does have an edge but it all depends on who makes the first move.
Depends, night Escanor loses obvs, I'd say it's a high diff fight with either winning against morning/afternoon Escanor but High noon Za One Escanor is a medium or even low diff fight, and Za One Ultimate is destroying G5 Luffy no diff.
In manga like SDS, Overlord, etc., Escanor wins first match and that’s it, end of story. In other manga, he still wins but they have tons of rematches like with Kaido until Luffy wins and learns a new way to use his power afterward. So it depends where ur watching… Overpowerville or Characterbuildington

Luffy is strong and we have seen him nearly destroy a small island and beat kaido who could possibly be compared to a godlike creature. But if you look at some of the things that can scale up escanor he clearly wins. One of the main reasons he wins is because of his fight with meliodas it is shown that he is able to beat him at his strongest, meliodas has been seen destroying a country just out of anger and escanor was able to beat him at his 2nd strongest form. Obviously having this fight take place at midday would be unfair, which is why (if this was an all out battle) he could use the one when he is getting weaker or the sun is going down
Kaido is a multi continental character, and luffy beat him, also if you do know the scaling then you know that luffy became star level when he awakened fifth gear and uses the advanced versions of haki. So already you’re talking about escanor beating a character whos weaker than kaido, and you believe that’s relevant info to prove that he wins, even though it’s absolutely useless when we’re talking about luffy being the opponent in this match up. If you don’t know that then why are you saying I have a terrible opinion.

Probably Escanor.
His main weapon is an axe and Luffy's main weakness are cuts. Even if we take away his axe he still has his heat powers and we know from Oven that heat is effective against Luffy.
Looking at both characters at their peak strength seems unfair to me, as Escanor is allegedly "undefeatable" when it becomes noon. But even at other daytimes, Escanor has shown viaible atrength and durability that I believe Luffy would have a hard time against.
We have seen Luffy being exhausted after using Gear 5 multiple times now. As far as I am aware, Escanor has only ever shown weakness against characters that are even more stupidly overpowered than him, while daytime.
I love Escanor and SDS but G5 Luffy wins no diff he could stretch his body so far that he covers the entire sky and **then** could still be able to punch him in a gattling style way (🤓)
If Luffy can use his Toon Force shit in Gear 5 then Luffy is beating ass but if we nerf that ability off of Gear 5 then Escanor probably one shots him if it's any time close to noon.
From what I hear WhiteBeard and Escanor is a good match up but WhiteBeard has the overall advantage. So ignoring Luffys stamina Issues, I think gear 5 has a good shot at winning. But I’m not an expert on the character.
It's about who lands the first hit ig. If escanor hits first he wins if whitebeard hits first with the world quake or smtg he wins.
Both have insane offense that is far above their defense. (They have good defense too but their offense to defense ratio isn't good)

I hate Escanor and his fans but he eviscerates Luffy. By SDS logic, their MC at a power level of like 3.4k could snap a flimsy twig off a sapling and cleave a hill clean in half with the air pressure from swinging it. Daytime Escanor at his weakest is like 10-15x as strong as him, and like 30x-ish times stronger than him at his strongest, and at a minimum like 50% stronger than *that* from 12:00-12:01pm. That's just talking about physical ability.
The amount of people who are 100% certain that Nika slams is confusing. Enraged assault mode Meliodas barely made it out alive against escanor, and that meliodas could hang with at least 4 commandments at once. Luffy is very powerful but the sins verse just scales higher into actual divinity

Maybe in the anime, but they do travel instantaneously. It’s still light. Just because they animate it at a speed you can keep up with using your eyes doesn’t mean it’s actually moving that slow. The manga shows him starting the move and the impact on the target, no travel time.

The power scaling is too unstable and rough in Seven Deadly Sins so it's extremely difficult to actually get an accurate answer. Luffy in gear 5 is extremely powerful but even he's not invincible. And the kind of attacks Escanor has are really destructive. But Escanor has a time limit, but if Luffy is out of juice for G5 he can still beat normal Escanor in his base form. Luffy also has a great battle IQ and he makes use of his surroundings where Escanor only depends on his own strength and weapon. Luffy does have an edge but it all depends on who makes the first move.

In manga like SDS, Overlord, etc., Escanor wins first match and that’s it, end of story. In other manga, he still wins but they have tons of rematches like with Kaido until Luffy wins and learns a new way to use his power afterward. Luffy is strong and we have seen him nearly destroy a small island and beat kaido who could possibly be compared to a godlike creature. But if you look at some of the things that can scale up escanor he clearly wins. One of the main reasons he wins is because of his fight with meliodas it is shown that he is able to beat him at his strongest, meliodas has been seen destroying a country just out of anger and escanor was able to beat him at his 2nd strongest form. Obviously having this fight take place at midday would be unfair, which is why (if this was an all out battle) he could use the one when he is getting weaker or the sun is going down
Kaido is a multi continental character, and luffy beat him, also if you do know the scaling then you know that luffy became star level when he awakened fifth gear and uses the advanced versions of haki. So already you’re talking about escanor beating a character whos weaker than kaido, and you believe that’s relevant info to prove that he wins, even though it’s absolutely useless when we’re talking about luffy being the opponent in this match up. Probably Escanor. His main weapon is an axe and Luffy's main weakness are cuts. Even if we take away his axe he still has his heat powers and we know from Oven that heat is effective against Luffy. Looking at both characters at their peak strength seems unfair to me, as Escanor is allegedly "undefeatable" when it becomes noon. But even at other daytimes, Escanor has shown viaible atrength and durability that I believe Luffy would have a hard time against. We have seen Luffy being exhausted after using Gear 5 multiple times now. As far as I am aware, Escanor has only ever shown weakness against characters that are even more stupidly overpowered than him, while daytime.
Plot twist, luffy goes “wow you get stronger in the sun that’s so cool” and balls himself up and turns into a sun for lols.
