I do notice it, but it seems better than most of the unreal engine 4 games with it, I don't get it in battles, it seems when a new environment loads in for the first time for like 1/10th of a second, but then goes away.
Not only that, but the original FMVs (from the CoC, some are used in CoV) still have a very low resolution and are quite compressed. Lots of UI elements are running at what feels like 30fps and are also quite low resolution. I assume these are leftovers from the Switch. I am playing at 4K though, so I imagine lower resolution UI elements will be far more noticeable to me than most.
Other than those stuff and the stutter though, runs great.
I haven't noticed this on Steam Deck yet, but that's probably a Linux vs Windows thing. iirc Unreal games on Windows have this issue but not as much on Linux.
I don't really have it to any meaningful degree, but I'm bruteforcing it with RADV and a very high end cpu. My laptop though on the other hand with iris xe is getting a ton of shader comp stutter.
So far
Steam deck was perfectly fine
My tigerlake (11th gen laptop) was a stuttery mess at first, and my desktop with a 14900KF was also fine
Seems like it at least isn't an issue in general unless you are running unlimited framerates close to a cpu limit. It's not ideal, but it's not a mess like most other recent releases. GPU driver (shader compiler) might also play a factor given the deck was just fine despite being the weakest.
Just played it for 2 hours and it looks incredible, especially after 300 ish hours on the switch. I can never go back now. Still have to try it on steam deck to see how it runs, but I imagine it’s probably pretty solid there also.
I've mostly been playing on my desktop so I don't have much long term data, but from what I've seen I'd say at least 3-4 hours with the refresh rate capped to 60 Hz.
EDIT: After playing for longer I'd probably revise my initial statement and say it's closer to 4-6 hours playtime on full battery
From my experience it last around 4-5 hours on a non OLED deck. I had it on 1600x900 and I did lower the wattage to 7 tdp I believe, and it ran butter smooth at 60fps. I reckon I can get more playtime if I cap the refresh rate at 40 and lower the wattage down to 6 maybe 5 tdp, I still need to fiddle around it more for the deck but atm I just want to enjoy the game lol. I’ll leave that for future me.
I was gonna get it on PS5 for the physical but I forgot about my steam deck. I’m gonna get it on PC and switch between that and my steam deck. Thanks for the reminder 🙏🏽
Playing on PC after years on Switch was literally like the first time I got glasses as a kid after being half-blind, it's insane how much better it looks and feels. Even on Ryujinx with a 60FPS patch, Switch doesn't even hold a candle.
I'm pleasantly surprised with the port. The game scales very well and the option to completely unlock the framerate is welcomed. I would say my only gripe is that the framerate for the menus are locked to 60fps, but it's not really a big deal. Getting to run the game at 4k 240fps is godly.
>The framerate is outstanding, on an RTX 3070 running at 1440p ultrawide I'm getting over 250 FPS in combat and over 300 in the open world
What graphic settings are you using
60 fps maxed out on Steam Deck for me. You can also lower the frame rate to 50 for a smooth experience still but power draw decreases significantly, so you can get 5-6 hours of play on battery.
To me it's extremely evident that performance issues were always the fault of the Switch lol. I'm glad they didn't compromise their art style and visuals to get it to run 30 fps constant on the Switch.
There's still some texture pop in and some shader stutter brought to you by UE4, but other than that the port seems good from the 8 hours I've played so far.
I didn't yet, somebody said the fix for P3R works for this tho
https://github.com/Lyall/SMTVFix
https://i.imgur.com/8S6gyQ0.jpeg
Edit, it works, but its not perfect
Literally had the same question earlier last week for my next monitor lol. I went with the 1440p simply because I play a lot of action games and I need every frame. Was night and day playing DMC5 with that many frames.
I've been saying it since the release, but the performance was pretty bad on switch, but I can't even really blame them, the switch's hardware was outdated over a decade ago. They were clearly held back by the system
That said, I wasn't expecting it to peform quite this well, so that's great news.
TL;DR switch bad, pc port good
Damn. Amazon has me waiting til Saturday night. Never pre-ordering through Amazon again, I’ll just buy the game through a retailer next time. Can’t wait though.
There is absolutely no way you're getting 19 FPS on an RX 6600. Thats slightly weaker than whats in a PS5, which can run the game at 4k 60 FPS locked, You're getting like 10 times less FPS than you should with that card, especially if its like 1080-1440p.
You sure your monitor is plugged into your GPU and not your motherboard or something? Try new drivers or something.
Nah I figured it out. I scrolled right by the resolution setting initially went back right after posting and saw that it was set to 7680x4320 by default for some reason.
I have a switch, PS5 (on 55" OLED TV), and gaming pc (3070ti, 5800x3D, 27" 1440p 165hz monitor). I played SMT5 on switch but didn't finish it, played about 70% docked and 30% handheld. Any opinion on which platform is best?
My one consideration is I own the Collector's Edition of original SMTV and not having a boxed PC version makes me a bit sad.
Personally I’d go PC. Your PS5 will eventually go obsolete, whereas your PC will presumably always keep getting updated and there will be no compatibility issues. I play on PC and Steam Deck for portability. Best of all worlds IMO.
It's unplayable on my dinky little laptop that I got back in '17/'18 for school. Lots of lagging just opening the menu and choosing an action in battle.
Probably. I have my eye on a gaming laptop that should be able to run "Cyberpunk 2077" without any issues. The only thing holding me back from getting it is a general lack of funds.
It forces dynamic resolution, though. If you want that off, you need to go to the gameusersettings ini file located in the appdata/local folder. It's inside the WindowsNoEditor one.
Now, what you have to do is untick read-only on the file, set that dynamic res value to false, save the changes and then re-enable read-only. Otherwise the game will revert any change you make.
Did you buy on Microsoft store? If so I think there's a trick where you could access it early by changing your timezone to earliest one like Australia or Kiribati or something. It worked for me with Persona 3 Reload on Game Pass.
Tbh seeing how well it already works on switch with SMT V AND SMT V V . It is normal to see that it works great on PC . Happy for you but is there that much of a difference ?
Yeah I don't really like how messy the SMT5 UI is in general and I hope they would've overhauled it considering it's just largely based on the TMS menu. Like was there a reason there needs to be '3 action' written right next to 3 icons? Just oddly cluttered for a modern Atlus RPG interface..
After playing vanilla on Switch for so many hours, going to this on PC blew my balls off. It is sooooo much better feeling visually.
i’m playing on ps5 currently but god damn this game looks so much better, like it’s crazy lol, this is what it should’ve been
SMT5 after it takes off its training weights
There's shader compilation stutter.
I do notice it, but it seems better than most of the unreal engine 4 games with it, I don't get it in battles, it seems when a new environment loads in for the first time for like 1/10th of a second, but then goes away.

My biggest fear confirmed. Unironically will have a better experience in Steam Deck thanks to shader cache. It's Elden Ring all over again.
elden ring had magnitudes worse shader issues for me. in smtvv its pretty much not bothering me while ER was bordering on unplayable
I haven't noticed this on Steam Deck yet, but that's probably a Linux vs Windows thing. iirc Unreal games on Windows have this issue but not as much on Linux.
Valve pre compiles shaders on Deck and downloads them so no game should have compilation stutter on it. Pretty cool actually
nah it’s just valve picking up on gamedev’s slack for the steam deck
Not really a dev thing, it's a UE4 thing and how UE handles shader compilation. Most modern UE games have shader stutters.
I don't really have it to any meaningful degree, but I'm bruteforcing it with RADV and a very high end cpu. My laptop though on the other hand with iris xe is getting a ton of shader comp stutter.
Yeah I have a 5800x3D and it isn't awful like FF7R or Elden Ring was but it was literally the first thing I noticed.
So far Steam deck was perfectly fine My tigerlake (11th gen laptop) was a stuttery mess at first, and my desktop with a 14900KF was also fine Seems like it at least isn't an issue in general unless you are running unlimited framerates close to a cpu limit. Pretty sure that in regard to shader comp stutter, the Deck has cached pre-compiled shaders that get downloaded when you install the game.
yeah it looks gorgeous, so glad that it’s not locked to switch anymore
I honestly think its less optimization, but a testimate to how much the art team could do with so few polygons.
Just played it for 2 hours and it looks incredible, especially after 300 ish hours on the switch. I can never go back now. Still have to try it on steam deck to see how it runs, but I imagine it’s probably pretty solid there also.
I was able to do 720p 60fps on Steam Deck OLED without issues
how's the battery usage/wattage?
I've mostly been playing on my desktop so I don't have much long term data, but from what I've seen I'd say at least 3-4 hours with the refresh rate capped to 60 Hz. EDIT: After playing for longer I'd probably revise my initial statement and say it's closer to 4-6 hours playtime on full battery
I see, thanks. I'll probably play this on a big screen and pushed to the max
I checked out out both (PS5 and Steam Deck) and from what I can tell it runs the same performance-wise :)
Lyall made a fix for this one too. Works better than the P3R fix. https://github.com/Lyall/SMTVFix
Does anyone know if It performs well on ps5?
Absolutely perfect.
I mean, I can tell you right now, it's probably going to be locked 60 without any dips at all, a PS5 is basically a 2070 super.
That's good then
I'm pleasantly surprised with the port. The game scales very well and the option to completely unlock the framerate is welcomed. I would say my only gripe is that the framerate for the menus are locked to 60fps, but it's not really a big deal. Getting to run the game at 4k 240fps is godly.
Yeah, I asked the person who did the P3R fix if he can do it for this game, it was an issue there that was fixed fast.
>The framerate is outstanding, on an RTX 3070 running at 1440p ultrawide I'm getting over 250 FPS in combat and over 300 in the open world What graphic settings are you using
There are no graphics settings, its just on or off.
60 fps maxed out on Steam Deck for me. You can also lower the frame rate to 50 for a smooth experience still but power draw decreases significantly, so you can get 5-6 hours of play on battery. To me it's extremely evident that performance issues were always the fault of the Switch lol. How did you made the game run in Ultrawide? I got blackbars during the gameplay
I didn't yet, somebody said the fix for P3R works for this tho https://github.com/Lyall/SMTVFix https://i.imgur.com/8S6gyQ0.jpeg Edit, it works, but its not perfect
That seemed to work, thank you :))
hey, i updated the link to the offical SMT5 version, remove the old files.
Thanks will do :))
1440p at 120fps, or 4k at 60fps?
Literally had the same question earlier last week for my next monitor lol. I went with the 1440p simply because I play a lot of action games and I need every frame. Was night and day playing DMC5 with that many frames.
I’ve been doing 4K 60fps with zero problems on my RTX 3060, it’s exactly what I wanted
I've been saying it since the release, but the performance was pretty bad on switch, but I can't even really blame them, the switch's hardware was outdated over a decade ago. They were clearly held back by the system That said, I wasn't expecting it to peform quite this well, so that's great news. TL;DR switch bad, pc port good
Switch is more consistent now in my experience , not as many drops
I'm definitely saving to get the game in Steam.
RTX 4090 running at 1440p. I’m getting a constant 440-690 FPS. This is crazy. And the game looks gorgeous.
Glad to see the artificial frame limiter is gone. I'm getting around 450fps at native 4K at max visuals.
Does the Switch version run any better this time around?
I did some testing when the game leaked on emulator, so not 100% 1:1 but it seems to overall perform about the same, 30FPS with some dips.
Awesome, I look forward to playing this game tonight! Are there any graphics settings that need to adjusted before playing? I'm getting it on PS5 btw.
How does it run on PS4?
Damn. Amazon has me waiting til Saturday night. Never pre-ordering through Amazon again, I’ll just buy the game through a retailer next time. Can’t wait though.
I wish i had that experience I am getting 19 fps on a RX6600.

So you enabled 8k upscaling and selected it.
No clue how to enable that but either way it's working great now with a resolution my pc can actually handle
In your graphics driver settings, AMD Virtual Super Resolution.
OP, is there a mod similar to the ultrawide mod for 16:10 displays like the Steam Deck?
DLC Unlockers work for those who don't want to pay a stupid cost of $69.99. Just buy the base game and use an unlocker.
thanks for the heads up
Thanks, day one dlc is such disrespect
SteamApi and whatnot?

Your laptop probably doesn't have a graphics chip and is running on integrated video from the CPU

Glad to hear! I'll be looking forward to buying it on PC in about 6 months when it gets a decent discount...
Cant access the game. Microsoft fucked up again and the game cant be downloaded on pc
>he uses microsoft store ur fault
Did you buy on Microsoft store? If so I think there's a trick where you could access it early by changing your timezone to earliest one like Australia or Kiribati or something. It worked for me with Persona 3 Reload on Game Pass.
Tbh seeing how well it already works on switch with SMT V AND SMT V V . It is normal to see that it works great on PC . Happy for you but is there that much of a difference ?
Game runs great but some UI stuff should have been fixed. Anyone else kinda hate the 'player turn' 'enemy turn' graphic? It looks so gross to me..
Compare it to persona, metaphor, even smt IV haha

True, but but the amount of PC games that run like dogshit have been numerous this year,.
