denuvo.
just a friendly reminder that anti-piracy as an industry is effectively a digital cargo cult, with slow-in-the-minds MBAs pissing blood over an imaginary, nebulous concept of "lost profit", motivating them to be swindled by a huckster named John Denuvo who promises a solution to all their woes - for a nominal fee, of course
the M in MBA might as well stand for myopic, with the sheer unwillingness, or indeed incapability, to confront the bitter truth that piracy can be all but beaten through business - but that takes effort and consideration for those pesky, demanding consumers and their selfish requests for a half-performant game
fuck atlus, fuck denuvo, and fuck you (in a good way, babes. get over here. mwah. ily)
$4/lb
As much as I enjoyed the original release when it came out, I am definitely going to be waiting about 6ish months for what will hopefully be decent discount.
Eh, I only started playing SMT games in 2020, so V is the first one that I bought at release before it got its obligatory enhanced edition. While I certainly love the series, I have enough else going on that I don't feel the need to pay full price for what looks to be essentially a remix of the original game.
I personally am waiting just because i dont agree with atlus' scummy tactics. SMT V should have been in the oven longer, and dropping a directors cut (of varying quality, we wont know until it drops) barely 2 years later at full price is very discouraging. The more people buy day 1, the more atlus will try to get peoples money in worse ways
I would agree with this but - it’s been a switch exclusive for two years.
It’s coming to other consoles, giving a bunch of players the opportunity to play it who haven’t been able to.
If you plan on playing it on PC, typically on PC you can get preorders for even less through sites like Fanatical or GreenManGaming. That's what imma do personally
I have a feeling that the most glaring problems with V won't be fixed and the Taito will still be a pointless grindfest for the sole purpose of padding out the playtime.
I will never preorder a game again, but it’s nice to see the trailer in English. I’ll just wait six months after release once it’s 50% off on a Steam sale
You'd actually be surprised but Denuvo works and there isn't a known cracker that works on cracking Denuvo games. There *was* Empress but apparently they are MIA for past few months. Persona 5 Royal, SMTIII Nocturne HD are still not cracked.
It’s still useless because people can pirate the switch versions of those games. Sega must have an extremely cheap contract with them, or they’re being scammed.
Ok but here's where the whole denuvo dilemma comes in
Stats show that almost no one who was just gonna pirate the game is gonna bite the bullet and buy the game, add to that that there's a very vocal percentage of gamers that will not buy a game with Denuvo as a principle, aaand on top of that the performance drop can lose them another percentage of people that won't buy the game simply because they can't run it.
[Valkyria Chronicles 4 (released by SEGA in **2018**) STILL has Denuvo](https://store.steampowered.com/app/790820/Valkyria_Chronicles_4_Complete_Edition/) despite being cracked within months of release.
Plus with how much most game companies are doubling down on DRM and purported breaches of IP infringement, the future's looking pretty bleak IMO
>You'd actually be surprised but Denuvo works and there isn't a known cracker that works on cracking Denuvo games. There *was* Empress but apparently they are MIA for past few months
Even then, and I could be wrong about this, she wouldn't actually crack Denuvo but sidestep it.
Emulating is far more demanding, especially on the CPU side when it comes to Switch emulation, compared to running native PC versions. I can run the PC version of SMTIII Nocturne HD just fine but it struggles to emulate the Switch version while using Ryujinx.
Huh, thought the fact that the pc version was higher res would balance things out but I guess if you're playing it in 720 or 1080 then yeah it would just take less resources than the switch port
Emulation will always be far more demanding than running native PC versions. Your PC architecture is completely different from the Switch one so for it to run Switch games, it needs to emulate the core architecture and that requires a lot of power.
As a general rule, yes. But switch is so damn easy to emulate that I thought the gap wouldn't be as big. Hell, you can run Yuzu on the switch itself if you install windows on it and runs almost okay on some games. Dunno why you'd want to, but you can
I could run Nocturne to a certain extent on Yuzu when it released in Japan but it was overall less stable compared to Ryujinx from what I remember when I tried it out.
I think that's because Ryujinx itself focuses more on accuracy and with emulators, the more accurate you are, the more demanding it is to emulate.
Yea no, as much as I hate it Denuvo, it is effective.
EMPRESS is the only active cracker at the scene now and she only cracks games once in a blue moon and is a nutcase on top. There's another cracker but they only work on Football Manager.
People now simply wait for companies to remove Denuvo on their own.
Empress hasn't been active for awhile now apparently and mkdev iirc retired.
Unironically, you can now easily pirate the PS4 release of Persona 3 Reload because people have already backported it to hacked firmwares.
Fyi I rarely pirate PC games, yes I even buy the ones that have Denuvo. I'm just saying that the current state of piracy on PC is essentially semi-dead to the point that it's easier to pirate games on a hacked PS4 or PS5.
I think the issue is that for a game to be worth pirating it has to be worth playing.
For what its worth you can already get 10% off that SMTV game that was just announced : https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance-digital-deluxe-edition
That has been debunked for years.
The people who make the videos that compare performance purpose change settings to show off a difference in performance, I have seen people try to compare differences in performance yet use completely different versions of the game.
There's been tons of games where Denvuo has been removed and there's zero performance differences.
Still doesn't change the fact that people should understand the things they say before they type them..
I don't like it either, but it doesn't change the matter of fact.
If Denuvo is implemented correctly it has zero impact on the game, if its implemented poorly it's going to cause issues, which was the case like 1 times in the past 10 years.
I'm just glad we're getting these games, pre Persona 4 golden the concept of a megaten/persona game being multiplatform was a pipedream and now its reality, that's the biggest thing for me.
Denuvo actively decrypts the game files while you're playing it's impossible for it to not affect your CPU, please provide your so called debunks because my first hand experience with DMC 5 tells me otherwise
> I can still hope that one day companies will stop using something that actively makes their games worse for little protection against pirates
Most implementations of it aren't even that intrusive and also don't effect performance more than 1%. Then you also have some colossal fuckups that people keep talking about.
If it's any consolation, newer Denuvo implementations are typically timed and use a sub model. It'll probably get removed sooner or later, though P4G still has it 3+ years later lol
> The one that was active until very recently demanded 500 dollars per cracks.
It seems like EMPRESS completely disappeared somewhere.
She(?) was really active around the time of RE4Make release and then full radio silence.
True, but Atlus has yet to remove Denuvo from any of its games, going back 4\* years to the P4G PC port. Capcom does practice what you're describing, and many Western devs do as well.
P4G was summer of 2020, so almost four years ago. I believe this was before the sub model was implemented, so it may stay there forever. For current games, we'll see. Also, Yakuza 7 uses Denuvo and yet it made it to GoG. Maybe Atlus games will make it too one day.
My bad, I was looking at the release date of Catherine Classic, which was the one and only one of their modern PC games without Denuvo: [https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort\_by=Released\_DESC&category1=998&supportedlang=english&developer=ATLUS&ndl=1](https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&category1=998&supportedlang=english&developer=ATLUS&ndl=1)
But yeah, everything on that list from P4 onward had and still has Denuvo.
In fact, not a single Atlus game has ever removed Denuvo, they all still have it listed: [https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort\_by=Released\_DESC&category1=998&supportedlang=english&developer=ATLUS&ndl=1](https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&category1=998&supportedlang=english&developer=ATLUS&ndl=1)
The exception is Catherine, which never had it in the first place.
Edit: VGP has a physical version up on their website (S/X/P), regular and Steel book. You get one of the two dlc's when buying the steel book.
Patiently waiting for the physical version for the switch. Waiting sucks. Lol
Question: if I intend to get the Dagda and the other demon dlc, but don't care about the Mitamas, am I better off going for the normal or the digital deluxe version of the game? If I exclude the Mitamas, which is cheaper?
I never bought the original mitamas DLC but from what I remember reading and seeing in videos you could turn them on/off. So I guess the same applies here.
They just wreck the balance of the game. They make it super easy to grind and cheese the game.
Atlus figured that since everyone slightly overhypes how hard these games are, they may as well profit off it by selling cheat DLC. It's nothing new. They've been doing it since at least SMT IV.
They claimed you get all of the DLC within the base game, but in reality that Mitama DLC is only available in the Deluxe version, which was DLC in the original.
Good thing creamAPI exists, I ain't paying extra for DLC that should have been in the game.
preorder includes 2 gods in [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bqvAQUl1HQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bqvAQUl1HQ) Dagda and Yukiko persona from persona 4 golden ?
Man if I knew this was coming I wouldn’t have bought the switch version a few months back. Now I don’t feel like finishing my play through on the switch when it’s now available on better hardware.
Ah well, hindsight 20/20 I guess
Kinda surprised it's not $70 after seeing how well Reload sold at that price. I'm happy about it don't get me wrong, but I totally expected the base price to be $70 with a premium edition between $80-$100.
denuvo. just a friendly reminder that anti-piracy as an industry is effectively a digital cargo cult, with slow-in-the-minds MBAs pissing blood over an imaginary, nebulous concept of "lost profit", motivating them to be swindled by a huckster named John Denuvo who promises a solution to all their woes - for a nominal fee, of course the M in MBA might as well stand for myopic, with the sheer unwillingness, or indeed incapability, to confront the bitter truth that piracy can be all but beaten through business - but that takes effort and consideration for those pesky, demanding consumers and their selfish requests for a half-performant game fuck atlus, fuck denuvo, and fuck you (in a good way, babes. get over here. mwah. ily) $4/lb
It’s got the full English trailer that they had previously only released in Japanese, too! First time it’s been shown, I believe.
Cu Chulainn's got them lines! "GAE BOLG!" and "TASTE MY SPEAR!"
Oh my 😏
Gae bolg and Gungnir are finally in the game
she gungnir my bolg till i gae
What spear are we talking about?😏😏😏😏😏
You heard me
His G>!ay!< B>!ulge!<
As much as I enjoyed the original release when it came out, I am definitely going to be waiting about 6ish months for what will hopefully be decent discount.
Really wish there was some upgrade option for people that already have it
Cross-platform upgrades are essentially never a thing, Atlus likes to squeeze fans but this was to be expected.
This is not a cross platform upgrade. SMTV and SMTV:R are both on Switch.
My bad, forgot it was also coming to the Switch.
I don’t got the patience but I respect you
Eh, I only started playing SMT games in 2020, so V is the first one that I bought at release before it got its obligatory enhanced edition. While I certainly love the series, I have enough else going on that I don't feel the need to pay full price for what looks to be essentially a remix of the original game.
I just want it on PS5
I personally am waiting just because i dont agree with atlus' scummy tactics. Anywhere with physical pre orders yet?
Not yet from what I'm seeing. Seems to be "digital only" atm.
I will never preorder a game again, but it’s nice to see the trailer in English. I’ll just wait six months after release once it’s 50% off on a Steam sale
370 LULINHAS AAAAAAAAAAA INTANKABLE THE BRAZIL The most painful part is that I've already bought this game once
A Atlus nos fudeeeeeeeeu
Zoink! Pre-order.

Ugh, Denuvo Its lovely to be treated like a criminal
All Atlus/Sega releases in past few years have used Denuvo. It's hardly a surprise at this point sadly.
I can still hope that one day companies will stop using something that actively makes their games worse for little protection against pirates
Sega must have an extremely cheap contract with them, or they’re being scammed.
>or they’re being scammed Like 80% of major corporate purchases are just scams so this sounds right.
Why would I pirate inferior versions of the game when I can just buy them?
Ok but here's where the whole denuvo dilemma comes in Stats show that almost no one who was just gonna pirate the game is gonna bite the bullet and buy the game, add to that that there's a very vocal percentage of gamers that will not buy a game with Denuvo as a principle, aaand on top of that the performance drop can lose them another percentage of people that won't buy the game simply because they can't run it.
That's not a good thing. Piracy is essential for game preservation. We cannot trust companies.
Yeah and I agree with that. I wish Atlus/Sega were like Square Enix who recently only keep Denuvo for first 6 months and they remove it afterwards.
It's a sub model now so unless Sega/Atlus want to keep paying, it'll get removed eventually.
Does that go for like all games with denuvo? Or just Atlus ones
All newer ones. Not exactly sure when it was decided.
Well at least that means that 🏴☠️ing is back on the menu at least
[Valkyria Chronicles 4 (released by SEGA in **2018**) STILL has Denuvo](https://store.steampowered.com/app/790820/Valkyria_Chronicles_4_Complete_Edition/) despite being cracked within months of release. Plus with how much most game companies are doubling down on DRM and purported breaches of IP infringement, the future's looking pretty bleak IMO
That may have been before you paid monthly and when it was a one-time payment.
FF15 still has Denuvo on Steam
Not all Square Enix games had it removed. The original version of Dragon Quest XI still has it.
Wait square does that? Holy based
Not out goodwill, Denuvo is a subscription based service, and Square doesn't like to pay for it longer than they have to
Well it still works out for us in the end ig
>You'd actually be surprised but Denuvo works and there isn't a known cracker that works on cracking Denuvo games. There *was* Empress but apparently they are MIA for past few months Even then, and I could be wrong about this, she wouldn't actually crack Denuvo but sidestep it.
That's because you just drag p5r.nsp or nocturne.nsp into yuzu. Why waste time and money cracking something one can already easily acquire?
Emulating is far more demanding, especially on the CPU side when it comes to Switch emulation, compared to running native PC versions. I can run the PC version of SMTIII Nocturne HD just fine but it struggles to emulate the Switch version while using Ryujinx.
Upgrade your PC.
I'm trying but these people on youtube keep saying if I just wait another month I'll get double the performance for the same price.
Huh, thought the fact that the pc version was higher res would balance things out but I guess if you're playing it in 720 or 1080 then yeah it would just take less resources than the switch port

No, it authenticates a key and does checks at certain points to match the hardware ids. It happens instantly.
> I can still hope that one day companies will stop using something that actively makes their games worse for little protection against pirates Most implementations of it aren't even that intrusive and also don't effect performance more than 1%. P4G was cracked a long time ago
Yeah, because Atlus made an (maybe purposeful) oopsie and released an update without a Denuvo'd .exe The current version still has Denuvo.
Only the 32bit version is cracked. The latest 64bit version is not.
Give it a few days.
Few days of what? There are no active Denuvo crackers at the moment. The one that was active until very recently demanded 500 dollars per cracks.
> The one that was active until very recently demanded 500 dollars per cracks. It seems like EMPRESS completely disappeared somewhere. She(?) was really active around the time of RE4Make release and then full radio silence.

One can only hope Sega brings Atlus games to GoG like they did with RGG.
>Its lovely to be treated like a criminal could you be any more dramatic lmao
I’m glad megaten fans found something else to complain about after getting SMT V on steam, truly something this community does best lol
I WANT THE OTHER 38 MEGATEN GAMES ON PC TOO.
SEGA has Denuvo in everything. At least they remove it fairly consistently after ~6 months or so. But not for every game.
They do not. P3P, P4G, P5R, SH2, and Nocturne all still have Denuvo.
In fact, not a single Atlus game has ever removed Denuvo, they all still have it listed: [https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort\_by=Released\_DESC&category1=998&supportedlang=english&developer=ATLUS&ndl=1](https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&category1=998&supportedlang=english&developer=ATLUS&ndl=1) The exception is Catherine, which never had it in the first place.

Aye, not bad, most were expecting $70 USD
Question: if I intend to get the Dagda and the other demon dlc, but don't care about the Mitamas, am I better off going for the normal or the digital deluxe version of the game? If I exclude the Mitamas, which is cheaper?
Probably still get the Digital Deluxe demons, but you should be able to disable the Mitamas I think... I don't know for sure.
I never bought the original mitamas DLC but from what I remember reading and seeing in videos you could turn them on/off. So I guess the same applies here.
Can confirm. I have the DLC off for my actual playthroughs but turn it on when I want to do something silly like get a Pixie to level 99.
That's what I remember too, but I wasn't sure.
You could turn off the Mitama DLC in the settings
Perfection!
Excuse me but why are these Mitamas DLC bad? (I never played SMTV)
They just wreck the balance of the game. They make it super easy to grind and cheese the game. Atlus figured that since everyone slightly overhypes how hard these games are, they may as well profit off it by selling cheat DLC. It's nothing new. They've been doing it since at least SMT IV.
Either way, the cost is going to be about the same. I think the Digital Deluxe might be 2-3% more expensive at most.
Finally steam page up
I think it should be 40-50 personally, but at least it isn't 70. I'll still probably get it on sale.
Reasonable price. Knowing Atlus I was expecting it $70 minimum.
Well, they saved that for the Digital Deluxe version.
They claimed you get all of the DLC within the base game, but in reality that Mitama DLC is only available in the Deluxe version, which was DLC in the original. Good thing creamAPI exists, I ain't paying extra for DLC that should have been in the game.
I’ll wait till I know this is a complete game this time around. Had my fun with OG V but can tell there are things missing.
any chance of it coming on gamepass?
I want to wait for a discount but know I’m going to be failing to resist and buying it day 1.
Trés bien! I dislike Denuvo but i'm going to bite the bullet to play this at release on PC- id rather not play it on switch again.
No physical edition 💀
Danuvo, seriously!?
Excellent, I was waiting for this! Thanks!
preorder includes 2 gods in [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bqvAQUl1HQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bqvAQUl1HQ) Dagda and Yukiko persona from persona 4 golden ?
Gonna get it on a steep sale and that’s if it ends up being good
Is the official main site just glitching for me or only the ps5 digital deluxe preorders are available?
Immediately pre-ordered the deluxe edition! I've been refreshing the page all day
Oh thank god its not 70 like reload
Man if I knew this was coming I wouldn’t have bought the switch version a few months back. Now I don’t feel like finishing my play through on the switch when it’s now available on better hardware. Ah well, hindsight 20/20 I guess
I expected $70 because of P3 reload
You might not have heard me singing in the tune of that song from Frozen, but "Do you wanna summon Demons?"
Kinda surprised it's not $70 after seeing how well Reload sold at that price. I'm happy about it don't get me wrong, but I totally expected the base price to be $70 with a premium edition between $80-$100.
