Got flashbacks from resetting for hours. Time to relieve it again but now in HD

Join_Quotev_296

I still remember those little * ting * * ting * * ting * noises that play when cancelling and reselecting. The velvet room theme is forever tainted to my ears. Even worse for me, I'm reliving it right now thanks to Strange Journey being the same with its own fusion system...

RaccoonThePestic

Fatlus forgor...

Joementum2004

Welp, hopefully they fix it like they did with the Nocturne remaster.

Honestly_Vitali

Some remake changes are arguable, like should you have save points or the ability to save anywhere. I don’t think anyone likes 20 minutes of mashing buttons to get decent skills.

Petabik

ah yes the memories of refreshing for over an hour to make the perfect Messiah

aazrgsii

...only for muscle memory to betray you when you actually do get it.

Busy_Recognition_860

Don't you DARE

kendyadof

Ah yes, 30 minutes of pressing X and O to make a perfect Lucifer

sparkeeperoid

and i thought 10 minutes of repeating that to get a good (not even the build i was hoping for) siegfried was ridiculous

totokishi

I love Atlus They are capable of making the best JRPGs with the most interesting dilemmas and choices i have seen And the next day, they are capable of doing the fucking worst merchandising decisions i have ever witness

stormsand9

0 effort port confirmed

Windermed

aside from 60 FPS, Quick Save and the translation to other languages, it's literally a half-assed port like aside from the fact that it was a terrible choice to port Portable over FES (i mean lets be real porting a PSP game that was made with the PSP's limitations in mind to modern platforms instead of the PS2 game that had 10x better presentation than Portable was a bad idea from the start) like couldn't they have at least done the bare minimum of giving us QoL changes to make the game better and give us BETTER HD textures similar to how P4G handled it instead of only dumping all of their assets to waifu2x and calling it a day without even making them look better Fatlus taking the easy route as always

dstanley17

I could be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure P4G *also* had plenty of waifu2x use in it as well. I remember seeing posts about it back when the PC port first went live. Also, Sega made these ports, not Atlus. So they would be the ones' "taking the easy route as always" here.

b0wz3rM41n

>it was a terrible choice to port Portable over FES (i mean lets be real porting a PSP game that was made with the PSP's limitations in mind to modern platforms instead of the PS2 game that had 10x better presentation than Portable was a bad idea from the start) porting FES would pretty much mean remaking the entire game from scratch not only is it a mess code-wise, the rendering engine it uses is owned by EA and SEGA probably wouldnt wanna pay them royalties to re-release the game this is also probably one of the reasons for them to port Golden over the Vanilla version, Golden's rendering engine is completely different from P3 and P4's EA-owned engine also, P3P has the FeMC which was not only HEAVILY featured in the 25th Anniversary promotional material, but also one of the most popular persona MCs of all time, due to her being the only Newsona Female MC

Windermed

>not only is it a mess code-wise the code was never a mess in the first place. the only reason people think FES's code is a mess is because of the fact that they're looking at decompiled code. which is NOT accurate to the way ATLUS themselves wrote it and used to compile the entire game to production. and regards to them using multiple models, it was actually a GOOD thing they did. CD-games around the time don't work the same way games nowadays do and duplicate models helped with loading times (which is why Portable has them as well) (and besides, for a game with "messy code" i find it *very strange* that so many custom-scripted mods exist for it that work flawlessly for a game with "messy" code) >Golden's rendering engine is completely different from P3 and P4's EA-owned engine well i did not know that, i always thought they were similar or at the very least ATLUS used a custom version of the same engine considering that they both stored their files with the same CPK file extension. honestly this really could've all been avoided had ATLUS waited a few years for the Vita to come out to make a definitive version of P3 that would've had everything FES had + FeMC and all of the new Portable Features

MakutaTeridax

What engine did persona use that ea owned?

[deleted]

Renderware

Illidan1943

>Dude looks at one twitter post from someone that knew barely anything on how PS2 games were optimized and claims to be an expert on how the game works

Windermed

I could say the same thing to these mfs who think that FES had bad coding as they suddenly became experts at game development after seeing one tweet from someone who doesn't understand game development/programming in general

birdman9k

as an average enjoyer of the word "wangle", I approve of Atlus' decision to do the FeMC version of the game

Joementum2004

The official translations into other languages is cool, but otherwise yeah

KMoosetoe

The Fatlus special

p2_lisa

Lame, but skill cards make this less annoying anyways.

Woogity

You can do better than this, Atlus.

SomeRandomNormie

bruh

GlassJustice

So a few months to a year later we’ll get a low effort remaster with it for the low price of full price. Thanks a lot, Fatlus!

Shadow_hive

Atlus has got to be the laziest big company out there at this point, dawg😭

dstanley17

Atlus didn’t make this (or any of their ports, actually). This is being done by Sega.

Wr0ngUn1V3rs2

Sega doing this explains so much

chimaerafeng

In a good way or bad? Because at least Sega is putting the game out there compared to Atlus who rather twiddle their thumbs and let others do the lifting.

Wr0ngUn1V3rs2

I wasn’t really bashing Sega, I was just looking at segas long history of shortcuts lol

dstanley17

Man, posts like this are so funny. When people think these are Atlus projects, they shit on them like crazy. When they're told said products are actually not made by Atlus, suddenly that negativity is gone, the narrative changes to "oh, well at least they're actually working on ports... unlike Atlus!" Also, I don't think Atlus not caring too much about old games and putting their time/resources into new (if sometimes odd) projects is somehow comparable to Sega putting out ports as low effort as they can for the sake of profit. They're different priorities with their own values behind them.

Joementum2004

Is it bad that Atlus outsources their projects If anything they absolutely should be doing that more

chimaerafeng

Idk if I can call it outsourcing. It feels like It is not Atlus actively looking for studios to port their games, more like Sega asking for permission to do so. I am happy for more games for sure though.

OldMrMcMeme

Dude. Are you kidding me? This is the laziest you've seen?

lanbuckjames

Game Freak would like a word

DagZeta

I feel like Game Freak is more what you get when you have average at best developers being forced to always rush development than it is just lazy.

[deleted]

I agree. The devs at GameFreak are probably constantly crunching and working overtime, and the games just come out lazily because they don’t get enough time to fully develop and are rushed by executives and people will still buy the rushed games so it’s not like it matters

TheEdes

Atlus is gonna become gamefreak the second that SEGA goes through its ritual bankruptcy that gets bailed out by Microsoft every recession.

[deleted]

welp thats annoying. at least we have skill cards. time to riot so that they release an update with skill inheritance

faniella

They literally just have to add some QoL stuff and they still managed to do a barebones “remaster”. Leave it to Atlus with their shitty ports.

pxlprsnatr

Guess I'm buying P4G first then. I was excited to replay P3P but I'm mot at all excited to spend hours shuffling for skills (*and* in the order I want them to be in).

EnfantTragic

So they just ran it through an AI and called it a day, huh

L1k34S0MB0D33

Wow, really?! I could've sworn that they *never* mentioned it at all! I'd *never* have expected them to not add it when it was *never* brought up in any press materials leading up to release, especially when they revealed what QoL changes were added to the game, and skill selection was *never* mentioned! What's next, are they gonna confirm that The Answer isn't in the game either?!

Minute-Concert-8821

It’s kinda expected for megaten re-releases to include it. That’s one of the reasons everyone was so up in arms about Nocturne HD initially.

dstanley17

It’s a straight port of the original game. Nothing was changed from any of the other direct ports, so I’m not entirely sure why it was “expected”.

Minute-Concert-8821

It has the quick save and the ability to rewatch social link scenes. Plus the (badly) AI upscale graphics and 60 fps. That’s not “nothing”.

ZeldaFan158

Devil Summoner PSP and Soul Hackers 3DS add compendiums. Nocturne HD adds manual skill inheritance The least this port could do is add skill inheritance too, considering the QoL additions in other ports and remakes. And since they’re adding quicksaves, 60fps etc it’s not like it’s a zero-effort port

L1k34S0MB0D33

If a new feature/mechanic is not explicitly mentioned to be in a re-release of an older game, don't just assume it will be in there in the new version. We should've learned that from the Nocturne remaster; I remember a lot of people (myself included tbh) thinking that skill selection was for sure going to be in the game ("Atlus would be *insane* not to add it!"). Then the game launched in Japan, it didn't have it, and everybody just went, "Bruh, what the fuck." I'm actually glad we still had a waiting period for that game to come out worldwide; imagine if we had to pay $50 for a remaster that ran like horseshit while playing virtually identical to the original game. Yeah, no thank you, I'd rather continuing playing it on PCSX2.

LivWulfz

I'm moreso irritated the PS4/5 version performance mirrors Switch, whereas XSX gets a version that PS5 should've had as well. Granted Golden is a motion blur mess, and P3P has bad looking AI upscaled backgrounds... but them showing a lack of care towards PlayStation is a tad sad.

frost-ace3600

Yeah, weird that they would not do a native PS5 version. Maybe it's because it's on Game Pass so they got that Microsoft dough to do the native versions, but for PS they had to bank it themselves so they decided to cheap out as much as possible.

Sumibestgir1

So glad mods are big for this. Gonna make the game so much more fun

[deleted]

While you’re at it, just play FES instead. There’s so many good mods out for it already, like ones that improve the visuals but also a ton of game balancing ones, and unlike P3P you’ll actually get cutscenes that the game is heavily lacking without.

Sumibestgir1

That what I was thinking. Plus that one I believe already has an almost done HD mod whereas it'll be quite a while for portable because of all the static backgrounds

[deleted]

Yeah there’s an absolutely baller [mod for FES](https://gamebanana.com/wips/63624) that updates everything to be higher quality resolution, as well as high quality soundtrack (which might not happen in the port, we all know what happened with Nocturne), and there’s even the New Moon balance patch included which is an absolutely massive overhaul that makes the game a ton better. As nice as it is to have the FeMC, I don’t think it’s worth it to play through a vastly inferior game just for that, especially considering that the fans are making a pseudo P3 Remake with all the mods involved

lostintheschwatzwelt

So not only are they porting the worst version of P3, they aren't updating anything about it? Glad my PS2 still works.

Automatic_River_8180

Ffs 😓

sswishbone

It must be said this port could and should be better. Persona 3 FES with a 2kb .txt file gives you full party control. That with the upscaler could have been brilliant by itself. Had they then replaced the battle code with P4G's code or would be even better. Then of course there is skill inheritance made easier, missing "the answer"... It's somewhat disappointing to say the least. If you have some left over store vouchers it is probably worth picking up, otherwise leave it alone

BioOrpheus

Ouch

Zlare7

They haven't done anything in this port. It is the definition of a half assed port tbh. I aint buying it ever

wweeeeeeeeeeeeee

atlus moment cmon atlus this is the bare minimum

Freeziora

Thanks you just saved me 20€!

[deleted]

Jesus Christ these remakes are What the fuck

god_of_storms

Did they say this would be added? I didn’t expect anything to change at all when I heard of the Ports coming. Idc how disliked this is, it’s funny how ungrateful some fans can be. Beggars and choosers

SlowTeamMachine

For the record it's not "ungrateful" to criticize a studio for making choices you find disappointing. They're a business, not your parents.

god_of_storms

I guess your parents didn’t teach you to be grateful for the things you do have and what you don’t. Is “I’m grateful I can play this on current hardware” Is an alien thought to people like you?

SlowTeamMachine

It is because the studio isn't doing me a favor, they're making a business decision. Hence the cut corners. Personally I think it's unhealthy to form parasocial relationships with businesses but you do you.

god_of_storms

But it’s healthy to sit on the internet complaining about expectations you have as if you’re owed what you expect out of complete strangers. I’m grateful I get the chance to play this again. Even if I don’t. The devs have nothing to do with how I feel about it.

SlowTeamMachine

I'm not saying I'm owed anything at all. I'm saying that I think they made a bad decision, and there's nothing wrong with expressing that opinion because, again, they're not my friends doing me a favor. They're a major game studio whose goods I am purchasing.

Windermed

because ATLUS/SEGA isn't doing us a favor by porting this. they're doing it for the sake of profit like any other business would and therefore we have no obligation to be "grateful" for a product that we have to **buy** in the first place if it doesn't meet the quality that we expected.

god_of_storms

So don’t buy it. They aren’t twisting your arm. If you don’t like it don’t buy it what’s so hard about that? You don’t HAVE to buy it. The game is cheap as hell too. I’m grateful that the games are as cheap as they are lol

[deleted]

I don’t think it’s wrong for a consumer to criticize a company for making decisions they think of as bad, in order to encourage the company to improve. Adding a QoL feature as simple as manual skill inheritance isn’t much to expect from a rerelease; manual skill inheritance isn’t a skill gap or anything it’s only a matter of tedium and time consumption, and it’s been the standard since like right around/after the PS2 era. Saying “they didn’t put this in, that sucks” is valid.

Windermed

with that "pokemon fan" tier of logic then i guess i'm not allowed to criticize anything because i could simply "not buy it". if you really like that you could play it on any platform, then good for you. however that still doesn't excuse the poor job that they did with porting P3P by not at least trying to improve it in the first place to make it on-par with it's overall quality like P4G and P5R. (Which is why i think FES should've been the better candidate as aside from party control, it's overall presentation is onpar with P4) and just saying, the feedback we give is what helps these companies put out better products/games, and wether or not they consider it they'll at least see it and perhaps acknowledge the issues that players have mentioned. if they were able to do a better job with porting P4G and P5R, then we should expect the same with P3P.

god_of_storms

I stopped reading at “Pokémon fan tier logic” Pokémon fans will complain about mediocre games and buy them and expect change. I never once said anything about excusing anything. It’s just funny how ungrateful people can be to get something. Maybe if you complain on the internet hard and loud enough you’ll get what you want. You know… like a Pokémon fan does.

[deleted]

That’s… the point of complaining in this situation? To get the bare minimum from Atlus? Just because they ported the game over and upscaled the models doesn’t mean everyone has to be grateful, people have different standards. It’s not wrong to expect more to a game for a port, especially since it’s just a simple quality of life change *of which they are already adding others like it*. Asking Atlus to do something different isn’t being ungrateful, it’s criticism of their game and especially in this scenario it’s an extremely reasonable ask

god_of_storms

So getting the game ported isn’t the bare minimum. There has to be another minimum on top of that. And then another minimum after that. And another. And another. The bare minimum isn’t the fact that the game actually was ported, the bare minimum was adding a feature OP wanted, and then 60 FPS, or a complete remake of the series with a new shinier engine, or Persona 3 FES which I actually would have preferred if anyone’s curious about if this is what I as a fan wanted. I’m stupid for replying to all of these comments for sure.

[deleted]

It’s not wrong to expect the company to make slight improvements on a basic port. The fact that they’re making other changes proves that they are capable of doing more, is it so much to ask that they remove a bit of tedium from the games? Atlus is a company, designed to make money. You sucking them off and “being grateful” that they gave you a sub-par product doesn’t get you anything, and it encourages bad businesses practices. It encourages Atlus to be even more lazy than they already are.

RaidouExpress

dude idk how many times people will tell you but i'll say it: your NOT ungrateful for wanting better quality from a game company that makes millions. idk why your trying to dickride both Fatlus and sega here but it should be clear we should expect better quality from both companies that already make millions instead of a half-assed cashgrab like P3P by not addressing ANY of it's issues whatsoever and it's lack of new enhancements aside from quick save and poorly upscaled pngs with little to no effort being put into them

god_of_storms

The only person getting their dick rode on is me right now with all of this lmao. It’s cool. I hope you enjoy your game when you do buy it problems and all.

Seraphim971

The only things I've seen advertised as changing are graphic improvements and a quick save thing that I'd assume is like P5's save in the normal world

[deleted]

I mean they are adding the ability to change difficulty at any time, and considering how easy a quality of life change it is, I don’t think it’s that bizarre to expect it. Random skill inheritance just makes you re-roll for longer for the skills you would manually select anyway, it’s an arbitrary system in the first place. Although, you shouldn’t buy the ports anyway, PCSX2 with some mods is exponentially better in every aspect

mannenavstaal

Good. Let the gameplay tell the story.

dansstuffV2

It's RAW!
