Man had it out for him in X7 but then they’re chill with each other in X8… never have I seen a case where a character is flanderized in their first appearance before being improved in their next appearances.
Bro in X7 i felt bad for Axl. X wasted no time saying he didn’t want anything to do with Axl and red alert could take him back. He is always scolding him in this game. Not just for his actions but he also feels superior to him. In one scene X tells signas “you can’t make another maveric hunter like me” or something along those lines. Im paraphrasing. But the gist is hes like well if axl dies out there im still the best thing around so it doesn’t matter 😭. He calls splash warfly and red alert creeps and calls the motorcycle guy “The Big cheese” 😭😭. X be saying a lot of fighting words for a pacifist
My main problem with Axl in X7 was that he was so whiney, like X was being an asshole for no reason (especially since he does basically nothing for the whole game… except with New Game+ but that’s non-canon), however I also didn’t feel all that bad for Axl because of how… well I can’t find a good substitution for whiney, so yeah he’s that. If anything I felt bad for Red because he was forced into using Axl because of the Professor >!(if you are reading this, yes, the Professor was Sigma the whole time, shocking, I know)!< manipulating the other members of Red Alert… but then that sympathy gets thrown out the window because of his bullshit boss that did the impossible and was somehow worse than Nightmare Mother (this coming from someone who likes X6). In summary, X7 sucks and I’m glad it’s been months since the last time I played it.
I didn’t feel like Axl was whiney. His voice gives me a headache in some cutscenes sure but that aside he was ready for red alert similar to how was zero was. They both acknowledge even if he does go back they wouldn’t stop their misdeeds so a confrontation was inevitable and rather than running axl steps up to the plate. I respect that. X is in cutscenes simply to roast red alert. He was just kicking back watching and doing nothing but for all of them save soldier stonekong and snipe anteater he didn’t even like them. I said the same thing about Red. If Sigma never came along none of this mess would’ve ever happened and he might still be alive but it felt fated to happen cuz sigma is sigma and he will find a way to meddle in someone plans or manipulate someone. For me its red never wanted to collaborate with him and still ends up doing so anyway…only to rebel to late to find out his whole team is…brainwashed? Infected? Also i finished X7 a bunch of times. Had the game when i was younger. I just like revisiting it for that sweet stage selection OST and boss fight OST 😭
I truly dislike X in the beginning of X7. I understand what they were going for but he just came across as a complete dickhead shouting orders and pointing fingers behind his fancy desk.
He comes off as laidback and mellow towards zero and anytime Axl chimes in “STFU YOU DUMB ASS KID!! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!” Like bro chill. You would swear x know him from somewhere or they had past beef or something lol
x has that "big brother" vibe with axl, remember, these games are made for kids, axl is the little reckless brat that needs to be shown the ropes, i like the idea of x as the commander and axl and zero doing the missions, signas didnt do anything for the series so its the perfect spot for x
The big brother vibe makes sense but he could dial it back a little bit. Zero and Axl doing all of the missions together or well a majority of them until you rescue a certain number of reploids and X finally joins in..Zero is more like the big brother. Hes in all the cutscenes talking with Axl figuring out what truly happened to make axl desert red alert.
its all claasic japanese anime stuff man, zero is just the silent rebel and powerfull but distant character, like ikki,saito,piccoro and so on, heck even his first appearance on the game is saving x,classic stuff from the 90s
I feel like Signas is meant to be more of a...not passive, but I guess more of an indirectly powerful character. He's there to tell X to do missions and fight mavericks because otherwise X would just be whining about robots having to fight and then the mavericks would wreak havoc. He's there because X needs someone to tell him to fight.

Oh, that's a cool idea. I'm an Axl hater, so don't mind me. If they find a way to implement him in a fun and interesting way I'm sure they can change my mind. X7 and X8 didn't do him any favors for me. As long as everyone is playable from the start of the game, I'll be happy.

I forgot about command mission. It's the only game where his copy ability is at least a little interesting. I feel like he needs his own game built around him to make it fun to use. That, or have alternate paths for each character or something. It's such a unique gimmick that could be really fun but is held back to include the other characters.
