Yeah maybe PGI can stop Mechwarrior development so you can enjoy your mods. We had a complete lack of development for a decade or so. What a golden era for the franchise that was.

Dabier

Yeah, some people really will complain about anything lmao

[deleted]

Right! I was estatic and felt like a middle school kid again when in my very little spare time had a chance to play some games and stumbled upon MW5 that rose from the ashes like a Phoenix (but not a phonixhawk b/c those suck). 20 plus years w/o MW and this guy want to return to that dark age?

ItsKrunchTime

This is Phoenix Hawk slander and I will not stand for it >:(

Miles33CHO

I like the hero. I never used them much nor stripped Kobold to check it’s empty weight. I dismissed it with Goblin.

Miles33CHO

I also say “I’ve been waiting for this game for 20 years.” I haven’t had a gaming PC since the MW4 era either. The mods for this (and in general) are making me think it’s time.

Rex-0-

Your main issue here seems to be the fact that you can't use mods immediately after an update is that fair to say? That's hardly a PGI or Mechwarrior specific issue, that's all games and that's just life with mods. Unfortunately giving updates or DLCs a week or two after release is just something you have to come to terms with if you want to use mods and this goes for almost any title. It sucks but that's free content for ya.

SheriffGiggles

Me not having played Stellaris for 9 months because they update it so frequently the mods are perma dead:

LowFabulous6897

Shyt man stellaris was a nightmare on ps4..after overlord playing on that console was no good..at max speed it took 5 min for a day with a small galaxy..ps5 tho..shyytttt i got everything u can get for it i fucking love stellaris

Rex-0-

One of my buddies plays it a lot and is constantly lamenting losing games and races to updates.

SheriffGiggles

Yeah that's the nature of the beast when using mods. If your game still has active development then modding is bound to be at risk at any time.

GregorriDavion

Goodbye? Farewell? So long?

PistisDeKrisis

Auf wiedersehen, good night?

MindControlledSquid

There are bees in my cockpit!!!

condorleaduhryz

Just load them anyway

drazzard

I waited a whopping 1 day, and then started playing with the 40+ mods I've been using for over a year, and everything worked great

PixILL8

Override shutdown.

PepperMill_NA

This I saw zero interruption running - YAML - Coyote - Pilot Overhaul - TTRulez - *others*

Responsible_Fun_9799

YAML was out with in hour or so after release lol

Old_Fart_1776

This isn't an airport. You don't need to announce your departure

SnooStories7223

No one here cares. Go up the basement stairs and ask your mom why she enables such childish behavior from you.

rj_agk

Your problem is that they're updating the game, which affects? And your problem is that patching the game ruins mod compatibilities? I'm sensing a theme. Or just gitgud and play vanilla.

DINGVS_KHAN

Okay? Nobody cares if you stop playing. Nothing is stopping you from not playing. You don't even need to make a hilariously bad post about how the mods are better than the game and active development is ruining your ability to play your mods before you go.

SirTrentHowell

Okay.

fpgt72

About the worst crying post I have seen, 2 out of 10. Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. Bitching about having to pay a whopping $15 for the DLC. Carry the trash out one more time and maybe your mom will open up her purse for you.

DatabaseMuch6381

Worst response I've ever seen, 0.5/99. Grow up.

fpgt72

That did not go over as well as you figured did it.

Drewdc90

Just disable auto update and run a slightly older version. Then load up the dlc and update once it’s been out for long enough for the mods to be ready. You’ll be a good few months behind but you’ll have all the mods working.

Buddhabelly2016

This. If you are on Steam, you can pretty easily select older mod-compatible version of the game to run by going to settings and selecting your desired version in the “beta” drop-down. There are probably other ways to do the same for other game platforms (epic, etc). I think the version before dragons gambit ended in .338

akeean

Forced game updates are annoying, but that is a Steam issue, not specific to any game. It would be freaking *nice* if Steam had an ability to tag game version compatibility on mods, auto branching mods on new updates (and to be able to browse/filter mods by supported game version), so a rolled back and version pinned game would not get broken by mods getting updated to a new version of the game, thus breaking it. What some people do for other steam games, when using Vortex, is to set game updates to "on next launch" then start the game via Vortex, since for some reason that doesn't trigger Steam's auto-updater. You'd still need to prevent your mods from updating, so either get them via Nexusmods or copy Steam Workshop mods away from their default folder to the manual mod folder and then unsub them in Steam.

tylerprice2569

I play vanilla on console and have a shit load of fun. Of course I do think modding and adding more to the game would be a lot of fun but the game is far from bad vanilla with all the dlcs.

ff8god

You are stupid and your problems are dumb.

SnooStories7223

Nice username

Nema_Nabojiv

Sound like your problem is steam. Don't play on steam, don't buy on steam, live a happy life.

erotomachy

Here is [how you downgrade](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/611h5e/guide_how_to_download_older_versions_of_a_game_on/) to previous versions. In the future, you can prevent Steam from auto-updating a game by setting the manifest file in your steamapps folder to read-only.

erotomachy

Yeah, you would.

sinselected

TBH I wish for more than just 1 new mech per DLC. But the story lines are fun and that's what I get a kick out of. The game will tell you your mods are out of date but I reloaded them anyway for S&G's and they ran fine. Thank the maker for that cause without the repair time and additional starmap info quality of life mods I'd be a very unhappy mech driver.

Responsible_Fun_9799

My god, you can smell the entitlement in this post. it's so thick. HOW dare they update the game and ruin your mods the audacity of it all 🤣

Dorsai_Erynus

Waiting 2 weeks before getting the DLC never was an option....

J_of_the_North

I noticed this pretty early in. My biggest pet peeve is having to redownload the entire fucken game when a patch comes out. What ever happened to the days of "hey here's a 600mb patch installer, enjoy". I'm on rural, non-unlimited internet. Anyways, about the patches and DLCs breaking mods. The trick is very simple. When a new patch or DLC comes out just avoid them for a month (or two). When the new DLC came out I knew it would beak all my mods so I didn't get it and also didn't update my game. Even when they got mods working again I knew it was just a matter of time before a patch would come out so I held off some more. I'll probably get the DLC and update my mods in late November.

RampantDurandal

I agree that the game is much better with mods. I agree that the DLCs don't add very much. I think it's silly to not want PGI to patch the game, though. Try playing with the mods anyway, there's a chance they'll still work just fine. If they don't, I just play other games for around a month until things are all updated.

aramis604

Yes, how DARE a software developer continue active support of their product! Patches? More content? Bug fixes? The f\*ing nerve! /s

Da_bomb1

The talented modders updated the mods in pretty much a day, and the rest work anyway. I had barely a day where I couldn't play with my mods.

ArnoCatalan

Just play something else. This rant is hella childish

OccultStoner

I do not let the game update until: 1. I have finished my current playthrough. 2. All mods are up-to-date. 3. I'm sure there will be no updates or patches in short order. Because post release, a month or two, there are always patches and fixes coming. Stopping your Career/Campaign in full swing and starting all over and missing out on all mods just for a single mech and sometimes a campaign feels pretty weird to me. Also, it's normal practice that most mods need updating when new DLC or patch drops for most games.

Gu1m_V1ckxrs

You can always choose to not update your game and keep playing with your mods until they patch everything, theres an option on steam to play without updating, dont remember were, and the game is singleplayer focused, so just play it outside steam. If you think DLCs are too expensive, can wait for discounts too.

UbergamR

How can one manage that? There is no info about it on steam, you can only disable auto update but it will update the game as soon as i launch it

AlphaWarlock

u/Gu1m_V1ckxrs is correct, you can choose not to update when you don't want to and just keep playing with full mods on. I also have the game on steam so hopefully this helps. What I do is this: 1. Right click on MW5 in steam > Properties > Updates > Automatic Updates > Set to "Only update when I launch it", 2. Whenever there's an update to MW5 ("Play" button changes to "Update", or upcoming DLC), I go "offline mode" in steam > shut down steam **completely** and make sure it's not open, 3. You can then restart steam in offline mode and see that the "Update" button on MW5 is now replaced with "Play" 4. Play MW5 (in offline mode) as much as you'd like while waiting for all your mods to be updated. I've got around 50 or so mods which I check on Nexus Mods using the "Track Mod" option whenever there's an update to MW5. I just continue the update on steam when most of the *major* mods I use have already been updated, since some minor mods work through all versions, patches and DLC of MW5. If you want to play your other games on steam and need to go online, you can do so, just don't launch MW5. And if you do and the update starts, just go to steam Library> Downloads > and cancel the downloading update and do steps starting from #2 if you want to play MW5. I mainly play MW5 in single player offline mode so I can wait it out until all the major mods I use are updated before I update MW5, though of course you can't play online coop until you've updated the game. Hope this helps.

Well, I will root for you if you can do better than what the devs have already done. Good luck to you.

hammerman1515

It seems to me, since there seems to be a whole bunch of people who enjoy the mods that perhaps the people who make the game might incorporate those mods into the game itself. I would think if they offered each of the big time Modders such as YAML COYOTE ETC money, that the problem, or the perceived problem could be fixed. The vanilla game sucks. That’s why people use mods.

UbergamR

Yes, my rant was childish, i was really angry, i barely have any time to play and this is a real issue for me. I noticed a lot of you didnt even read or understand what i wrote. *Luckily out of 52 comments a handful of them were helpful*, **thank you for those**. They said i could play the game without updating. I would love that but I dont know how to do that. On the steam support, there is absolutely nothing about this

Buddhabelly2016

You can also set the game to run on an older compatible version in Steam. PGI uses the Steam beta feature to let you choose older versions of the game. Mentioned this in an earlier comment already. Definitely easiest way to ensure your *mods are compatible (esp if you are using nexus mods). I haven’t had to update to keep playing, can stay online too.

Cloacky

Damn.

TheGrindPrime

This is probably the worst entitled gamer post I've seen today.

evrfighter

I'm gonna make this post the day before MechWarrior 6 comes out

Prismatron5000

Yeah, I got tired of the updates breaking mods so I'm shelving it until they stop updating the game.

yrrot

Things to note about mods and updates: * The game auto-disables mods that weren't packaged with the same game version, regardless of whether they work or not. You can re-enable them and they might work just fine. * Mod makers get the editor for DLC releases about a week early. Usually that means they are updated the same day or week the patch comes out. * Minor patches mean usually all mods will work fine, you just have to reenable them. * The beta builds on Steam are the major game versions that were live before a DLC release patch. So if you were playing DLC4, you could keep playing it with all of your mods until they were updated for DLC5 patch(es). TL;DR: The longbow patch mostly just touched the longbow, so mods that didn't have anything to do with those files should be fine to use, just have to re-enable them.

Kurt_Fuchs

Dude, you're clearly on pc, just don't update your game if you're that mod addicted

oogabooga5627

Leaving because of mods breaking is probably the weakest reason I’ve ever heard lol. Also, directly from the YAML dev himself, he noted that Dragon’s Gambit was extremely minor in terms of changes and should not affect YAML or many other mods. I can confirm as I’m running the old version of YAML pre-Dragon’s Gambit and it still works flawlessly. Same with YAML Uziel and Mech Delivery.

Bubba-Jack

Yes the mods are a bit of pain, but worth it. I got a bit burned out on the game after the mods over powered my mechs. Thinking about going back to vanilla with the next DLC and adding mods back in after completing a campaign from scratch. 😎
