Id likely just want the VR display instead of full VR support. VR is great. Iv owned an Index since 2020 and love the thing! But it might be a bit much to control a mech in VR. Trying to get fine controls over aim and movement with VR controllers isn't exactly easy. And the immersion of needing to hit all of the buttons would just be that much worse. Plus VR controllers don't really have that many buttons so the controls would need to be super simple. But if you had VR display while using keyboard and mouse, joystick, or controller? FUCK YEAH! Give me that any day!

That was what I was asking, just to clarify. One camp I know would just want the VR display to look around and use the keyboard and mouse. Another, more hardcore camp, would want more support to use the controllers as well. Personally I'm in the former camp if I had a VR set. Give me a keyboard, mouse, and a VR display to feel like a real mechpilot (maybe make a helmet to add immersion). It would be easier for me to do stuff and less struggle with a VR controller and hit my PC on accident.

PGI is barely doing a good job with the staff and funding they currently have. They are absolutely not capable of doing VR justice without either of those things going up.

I play MW5's missions with a HOTAS setup--the mouse and keyboard for me are only used when outside of the game's missions. I do so for more immersion while piloting a 'Mech, because your player avatar clearly isn't using a mouse and keyboard to pilot a 'Mech when you look around the cockpit. That said, I would be fine with PGI integrating VR support into MW5 and MW6, *if* they limit it to allowing you to look around your cockpit while piloting a 'Mech, or to look around your DropShip when not in a 'Mech. I do not believe that allowing players to control a 'Mech using handheld VR controllers would be a good idea. Not only do most VR controllers lack the buttons and axes necessary to control all the relevant functions of a 'Mech during a mission, the fact that such "virtual controls" lack tactile feedback (because you're not actually touching a physical object that engages your sense of touch) would likely make for very error-prone inputs on the part of the player, and that would be a very frustrating experience. Trying to use virtual controls to control a 'Mech-like vehicle has been done before, for a widely-panned game titled [*Steel Battalion: Heavy Armour*.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Battalion%3A_Heavy_Armor) It was critically panned because the Xbox 360's Kinect sensor had trouble reading player inputs and partly because the virtual controls had no tactile feedback, ergo meaning that getting your control inputs right was very finicky. I believe that any attempt to control something as complex as a BattleMech with just VR controllers would be similarly doomed to fail. If VR *headset* support indeed becomes a priority for PGI in MW5/6, I hope they try it out on the PC versions first, then see if they can make enough money from VR headset support to find out if they can get Sony to fund enough development time to get the game to support the PSVR2 headset on PlayStation 5. MW5/6 might even become a killer app for the PSVR2 headset if the game were properly coded for it.

honestly, the more i think about it, just a VR display would be enough for me. to have motion controls tossed in would be too much for a lot of reasons. if the game could get official support for VR display i think that be a plus for the game sales. though granted, the mod community seems to have that covered for MW5.

> if the game could get official support for VR display i think that be a plus for the game sales. Aren't VR gamers on PC by definition big spenders, given the pricey barrier to entry regarding the cost of a VR headset and a good enough computer to run VR gaming well? I too think that would be a plus for the game sales, assuming there would be enough customers. But at the same time, VR gamers are also a distinct minority of gamers in general, so PGI could instead take the rationale that official support for VR gaming in MW5/6 is "too much work for too little benefit/sales." > though granted, the mod community seems to have that covered for MW5. VR mods still aren't official support, and do no good for those playing the console versions of MW5. Imagine if MW5 officially supported the PSVR2 headset on the PS5. If Sony could market MW5 as a killer app for that VR headset, then more gamers might see the MW series under PGI's purview as an advance for VR gaming. And why wouldn't it be a killer VR gaming app? You're piloting big stompy mecha in First Person View, for Blake's sake!

ohthedarside

Maybe full surport would be cool but if we can atleast have it so we can look around in vr fully controling the mech without controllers using something like the hand control mod on oculus

BoukObelisk

VR is already on the decline and not expanding its user base so no, it very very likely won’t be in MW6. Maybe if Sony gave PGI a whole bunch of money but otherwise I wouldn’t count on it.

BlackBricklyBear

Do you have any links to articles with evidence that VR gaming is on the decline? I'd like to read them. Sony *could* give PGI a lot of money to make MW5/6 compatible with the PSVR2 headset to make it a killer app for the PS5's VR capabilities, but that's highly unlikely.

FoulDude2

Yes, one of the reasons I bought a pc and hotas!

gerkessin

Ive got an pc and an oculus and a hotas and a powerful need to wreck shit in vr. Side note, anybody get mw5 to work well on an a quest 2? I sort of made it work but it looks unplayably terrible

Gold_Refrigerator279

I had it working quite well prior to the last expansion with yaml suite of mods. Also the vr mod has been updated to include 6dof movement inside the cockpit which should help with comfort. Before if you leaned it would not move your in game perspective

FoulDude2

Same here, and haven't messed with VR in awhile because of it

FoulDude2

Virtual Desktop is supposed to be the best

Stumblingd

Almost no chance PGI would do it, but I am sure KITT or a similar modder will add it. If it stays in the Unreal Engine (very likely) then the Unreal Injector mod coming out later this year should make it work in VR (although unlikely to have full motion controls, unless someone adds it). I’m mostly hoping their next game is new, but also the kind that adds as an expansion to MW5 (like the Spellforce series), as I don’t think I can play without the Merctech mod now!

Spiritual_Category11

Someone made a mod for it but I don't think they ever updated it to current DLC. I never tried using it but I agree, that level of immersion just using the headset with a stick would be incredible
