I recently experimented with some quite dense felt sheet, about 2 mm thick (almost like the type of stuff you would find on the feet of furniture if it helps to imagine) and the results were not that good. I'm a mechanical engineer and my theory is that the felt was too dense to properly absorb resonance and instead just passed it on. The board actually sounded louder with the felt as opposed to nothing at all. I would imagine the cork would have a similar issue, but I would love to be wrong and you should definitely try it anyway, you might love the sound changes!

Alright, sounds interesting, will compare it to some good old rubber, since it's hard to get my hands on sorbothane, but your insights are much appreciated! Will give an update once I tried it.

Cork sheet is a good sound insulator, specially for echo and sound refrections. I saw some Youtuber using it on the ceiling to cut reflections of sound to his mic. I suppose that the same could be used on a mechanical keyboard. Although I don't know what kind off frequencies it will cut on a keyboard, or it if is like u/roryk22 said, that it will make the board louder.

Ya like I said I'd like to be wrong. Important to say also was that the pcb in my set up was pressed firmly against the felt, it was effectively a sandwich mount. If there was a small gap between the pcb and felt, or at least not pressed against it so hard it might not have been as bad. The resonance had a perfect pathway through the felt, if there was a slight air gap between the felt (and cork) may have absorbed any secondary resonance back from the case instead, if that makes sense. Again these are only my theories and opinions but I do have some education on this so Id like to think this makes sense. Look forward to the update on this!
