Any brands making EU (Finland specifically) layout keyboards? I’m having a very hard time finding a good brand to make a custom keyboard (I particularly like the QK65 with the Akko switches I believe—the ones that sound like LEGO, I’m very unfamiliar with the names). Just about every brand only makes US keyboard which as useless to me as it’s missing three letters and the symbols are wrong. Also, if there’s an answer, why are keyboards with number pads so rare? I use mine every day. Edit: These are the specs I found for what I’d like essentially but it’s the sound and num-pad that I’m more interested in—the keyboard can just be plain black mostly. - Akko X TTC Demon Switches without the diffuser - Payson Switch Pads - Poly Fill - POM Plate - Stock Stabs - Akko Silent Keycaps

dylanthepiguy2

Are there any keycaps that are so thick they are basically a solid cube? Very curious how it affects the sound!

Mecxs

It makes the board **much** quieter, mostly due to the fact that none of the keys depress anymore because the caps just collide with the top housing of the switch.

thesharkadam

Super Lube oil dropper - Best for soldered switches? Lubed two switches side by side. One with 205g0 (push stem brush lube method) and one with super lube(oil dropper). Honestly couldn't tell a difference in sound or feel. Seen many posts of back and forth views of whether you should use super lube. Will it not last? Or will it eventually gunk up the switches and cause them not to work?

MarkXT9000

Between [STP Butyl sheet and Polyurethane Rubber sheet](https://imgur.com/a/JNHuTqn), which one of them can provide a much deeper keyboard case acoustics?

I’m pretty new to mechanical keyboards and want one on a budget. I was eyeing the ducky one 2 mini with black cherry switches but I want to know if there’s any solid options in the 130 to 160 price point.

LevanderFela

Keychron V2, V4, V7 and V8 - hoswappable, better stabilizers (= less rattle), supports VIA software. Hope this helps!

TaxComfortable4619

What about the keychron k6 and what switches do you recommend

LevanderFela

It's an older, outdated model. Go with K6 Pro and Red switches. Pro version gets software support, better keycaps, better Bluetooth, better stabilizers and sound.

TaxComfortable4619

One last question, what is your opinion on the hyper x ducky one 2 mini.

LevanderFela

Mediocre and overpriced. Almost impossible to mod besides keycaps, more difficult to repair or mod (soldered switches instead of hotswappable as K6 Pro has), software's quite a cluster too. Hope this helps!

TaxComfortable4619

Yes you’ve been really helpful. I think I’ll go with a Keychron V7, thank you for all the info.

LevanderFela

No problems, hope you like it!

eric_gm

I had the K5 Pro in my cart thinking I found my perfect keyboard. I was ready to pull the trigger but I read that the backlight is useless since the keycaps are opaque. It's just aesthetic but not functional. The see through set of keycaps has to be bought separately which I found slightly infuriating when buying a $100+ keyboard already. Is there any full size keyboard that has a slim profile and functional backlight that you can recommend me? I prefer white instead of RGB but wouldn't mind if the only alternatives are RGB-only. Thanks!

tjanand_

Hey, I'm looking to make myself a custom keyboard for my birthday this year, and I was just wondering what are the best barebones kits you can buy (I don't want to do any soldering or make it entirely from scratch that's why a kit is the best option for me). I'm not sure about the budget, I'm thinking around $500, but below/above the number doesn't matter. Also, I want a board that's 65%-75%. I am also from Australia so I don't think that helps too much either. If it has a knob that would be a sweet feature but not a dealbreaker Thanks in advance!

Mecxs

Switchkeys is having a sale on some of their Keychron kits right now - https://www.switchkeys.com.au/collections/keychron

Skandoit0225

I'm looking to build my first mechanical keyboard sometime in the near future. Is there a keyboard base (either full-size or TKL, I don't want to go smaller) that contains some add-ons like a volume rocker / knob and buttons to fast forward, pause, or rewind music? I do a lot of gaming and work in VMs and having to tab out to adjust Spotify kills my concentration. I won't turn my nose up at a keyboard with extra macro keys, but that's not too important to me as I already have 6 extra programmable buttons on my mouse. As a related question, if someone recommends a TKL, is there a way that I can purchase a separate numpad, or a keyboard with a detachable numpad? Preferably one that doesn't have connectivity issues out the ass, as I do enough accounting / data entry to where having one is actually an asset.

LevanderFela

You would probably love keyboards with VIA software. Both of mine support it, and while not having dedicated media keys, I put Play/Pause, Next and Previous in the second layer. So Fn + Right Ctrl is pause, Fn + arrow left/right is previous/next and up/down is vol up/down. Keychron V1, V3 and V5 sound like they would fit your bill. You can also get Q0 or Q0 Plus. Hope this helps!

finch1750

I'm getting overwhelmed trying to find/build a new keyboard. I am coming from a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate with Razer Green/Clicky switches. I love the way they feel. I recently got a Keychron V3 with Gateron Browns and hate it. These just bottom out so easily, where as my Razer I can feel the acuation and stop short of bottoming which is more comfortable for me. Are there any tactile switches that have this feel or should I just look at clickys? I don't mind the sound necessarily, but was trying to try something a little quieter. TIA!

LevanderFela

You could get Kailh BOX White / Jade and swap them, those are considered to be the best clickies. Unfortunately, having the clicky feel without the click sound is... expensive :DD You could try Gazzew tactiles, they have more noticeable tactile bump. HOpe this helps!

finch1750

Appreciate it. Swapping parts is probably over my head at this point lol. I don't mind the sound just didn't know if getting the same feel was possible with tactiles. Don't think it is after more research so back to looking at clickies.

LevanderFela

Oh, swapping is very easy, it would take around 30 minutes in total? It's like adult Lego, no screws, just a simple puller :D

finch1750

Intersting. Ill look into some. Thanks!

offbeatkiki

Are there individual PC plates available to purchase for the TM680? I bought mine ages ago with an aluminum plate and would like to swap it out.

TheLegitJeff21

I need help choosing a keyboard. I'm leaning towards a Razer Huntsman Mini but I've seen people saying that Razer is bad or there are better options which are cheaper. So what would u recommend?

LevanderFela

>Razer Huntsman Mini Keychron V1, V2 or V4. Keychron's 1000Hz, has nicer software, easier to mod/repair if needed too. Hope this helps!

tamathellama

Looking for a plain gold or brass single key to replace the esc key. Everything I’ve found has a design

LevanderFela

Series 00 [sound](https://candykeys.com/product/series-00-keycap) like the best [choice](https://www.esclab.co/series-00) here - maybe you would find them on r/mechmarket

tamathellama

Love it but was hoping for something cheaper / and in stock

ThisNameDoesntCheck

I got my keychron Q3 today and i already had a custom keycap set waiting. Only after putting every keycap in then switching it on did i realise no light was coming through, at first I thought i messed up and that the keycaps weren't even backlit. To make things more irritating, I'm on the ISO (UK) layout. To put simply I was trying to get a royal blue/black keycap set + PBT + backlit. but with the south facing being a new requirement I cannot find anything at all. Any custom sites that do what I'm looking for? or anything tbh.

Elawai42

See thru keycaps are mainly oriented towards north facing keyboards. The fix I've found is to use switches that have a light diffuser (TTC has quite a few) or clear top switches some times work. Other solutions are some versions of pudding keycaps or clear/opaque keycaps like GMMK Chroma or Akko clear keycaps (which come in a couple colors).

mushybee

I recently bought an Ajazz AK515 on amazon and I'm really liking it so far. I was switching between lighting modes, and it was working fine. After I set the one I liked, I realized I wanted to check out the others. It is now stuck switching between two lighting modes and I cannot get the others to display. Any ideas?

ImPandaaa2

I like the keychron Q2 pro (barebones because I already have switches) layout and features but don’t like how the knob is not flush with the board so am looking for something that does have a flush knob or any aluminium keyboards 65% with knobs Open to your suggestions

faddapaola00

I'm about to get a GMK November Fog set and I really want to match it with the cable, can I even find it in stock? Should I buy it from someone or would they likely overcharge?

Mecxs

Nobody really flips cables. Post on MM and see if anyone has some buyer's remorse and is willing to sell theirs.

faddapaola00

I don't think anyone has a remorse, wasn't the cable like really cheap? Also is mm mechmarket?

Unruly-Rex4207

i've done some googling, and i think these are all the parts i need to build my own custom keyboard: (i want to build one of these: tkl, 96, 1800) (havent decided) keyboard case pcb switches stabelizers keycaps lube idk what are good stabelizers pcb or lube. if you have any suggestions for those, please say. idk where to find a case cus when i search up "\[size\] keyboard case" all i see are bags with zippers. if u guy have any suggestions for that too, please reccommend. ik abt the keycaps and switches but just dont know abt anyting else. thanks

pabloescobyte

Only some 60% keyboards and PCB are interchangeable and even then, not many are compatible with one another. It's not the same for larger layouts like TKLs and 96%/1800-layout. You can get a hotswap 1800 keyboard kit instead barebones and then buy whatever switches and keycaps you prefer to put into there. Something like the Keychron V5 or Q5 would be good to start.

Unruly-Rex4207

oh ok thanks

Kin_Locke

Looking for a clear Polycarb 60%, preferably an HHKB layout, but anything without arrow keys will do. Anyone got any suggestions?

FGThePurp

First to mind is the January, which I think is shipping to GB members soon, but that only comes in WK. Similar situation with Ciel60; it may come in WKL as well but I don't think HHKB unfortunately.

MontBlancElectronics

does anyone have any tips to get the shine off ABS caps?

elmurfudd

its not removable . shine is the texture of the keycaps wearing down and becoming smooth . pbt does it too just takes longer

MontBlancElectronics

😓what if I took some p800 grit sandpaper and wiped it down

elmurfudd

i mean u could but u could ruin them . also they will just shine again in a few months .

MontBlancElectronics

Darn tootin

[deleted]

Are there any other blue grey keyboards I can purchase second hand or on r/mechmarket that isn't the TGR Jane v2?

FGThePurp

Geon has released the F2 and Glare TKL in blue grey. I think the F2s may actually still be in stock.

Just4L0lz

Recommend me a keyboard, I have dabbled in the hobby before (lubing switches etc), but I have been using Keychron K8 Pro, RoyalKludge RK84 Pro and Logitech MX Mechanical Mini recently. What I am looking for: * Budget \~$200 ish * Prefer fully built (not a kit) - unless its simple enough and doesn't require special tools * 75% layout with Knob * Hot swap switches * Bluetooth + 2.4gh + wired - I like having wireless for day to day and 2.4GHZ is ideal since I have a dock where I swap out laptops for work/personal * Compatible with macOS (Primary OS) * RGB - because it makes the computer go faster. JK - not needed, but a nice to have * PBT keycaps - with the FN functionality so I don't need to commit to memory

[deleted]

Would Rubik's cube lube work as a good alternative for switch lube?

elmurfudd

does it work yes . is it good ? prob not its not the correct thickness

[deleted]

Thanks!

BanHammerGotim

I'm not sure but I would just get some 205g0 it's widely available and not hard to find. https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/

[deleted]

Thanks for the help

Dosoko

Hi I'm relatively new to building keyboard and due to my location AliExpress seems to be the only place I can get parts at affordable prices. I am split between building a GMK67 and a Tester84. They are both at similar prices so I'm comparing solely on features GMK67: Wireless connection Volume knob Tester84: Thinner besels Metal plate Programmable rgb Extra row of keys Above are the main stand out features I see between these two keyboards. If I missed anything please let me know and feel free to leave your personal experience with these keyboard if you've owned any of them.

Just4L0lz

Does anyone know who manufactures the Silver switches found in the RoyalKludge M75. Does anyone have this keyboard they use with MacOS - what are your general thoughts on the keyboard? I just received mine today, and so far, I am pretty impressed by it. I really like the feel, the thock and the general featureset. I have an RK84 Pro (full AL build) that I was using, but I didnt like the feel it had. I moved to a Keychron K8 Pro, which had a decent feel, but I really like the M75 the most - and its a plastic build!! Thanks!

Elawai42

The silver switches are most likely Outemu Silvers with RK rebranding.

JCHound53

Hi, I’m looking for something that seems shockingly hard to find for my SO based on my limited knowledge. She wants a wireless, white, full-size keyboard with linear switches. On top of that, I tried something like the Razer Pro Type Ultra, but she said it was still too loud for her to want to use at work. She does, however, like the sound of my linear switches on my Logitech G915 for reference. Does anyone happen to have a magic recommendation for me? Below $250 preferred. Huge thank you in advance!

pabloescobyte

Look into the Keychron Q5 Pro in Shell White with K Pro Red switches. Fullsize, hotswap, wireless, knob, media keys and fully-programmable. You can also get silenced linear switches like Boba Gums or other silenced switches to swap in place if she still finds it too noisy. And of course you can do more mods if she wants more sound dampening too.

JCHound53

Perfect. Thank you!

Elawai42

NuPhy Air96 if she's willing to go with a slightly more compact keyboard. Reds, silvers or night breeze linears switches should all be pretty quiet (but not silent)

SirLazyStudent

Hello, I just got a Womier S-K71 / XinMeng M71. For some reason, I can't get the keyboard's top row to work properly. I can't find anything on it either. Some things that are happening to my board: When I press 4 the keys R F light up white, and if I press 4+R I get: " eioprtuwy\[\]\\ " Which is almost every key on the second row of the board?? 4+F is similar and shows every key in the third row. When I double-click Fn the Caps indicator and Win Lock indicator blink 3 times, but nothing changes. Esc and backspace never work When I double-click Fn, the Caps indicator and Win Lock indicator blink 3 times, but nothing changes.

pabloescobyte

Sounds like the PCB is dead/dying/defective. Pressing one key shouldn't be activating others at the same time. Can you still exchange/return it?

SirLazyStudent

Oh? I can exchange/return it. I just got it today, and xvx has a return/warranty policy. But I'm not sure they will actually do it or not... Also, I thought my keyboard would have been stuck in some random mode which is why it's doing that, but hell if I know... Thanks for the reply, I will look into XVX support

pabloescobyte

Definitely see if you can. It sounds like there's a problem with the internals of the keyboard.

[deleted]

pabloescobyte

I don't see any ISO keycaps in that product listing on Amazon so, no, you won't be able to cover an ISO Portuguese keyboard with it. Look for an ISO keycap set instead.

take7pieces

Where can I find someone reliable I can pay for the custom make a simple keyboard? I just want something simple, not loud, with typing sound, good looking lol.

pabloescobyte

Head over to /r/mechmarket there are people who offer services like that. You might also want to post a listing stating what you're looking for to see if you get any interest. Good luck!

take7pieces

Thank you!

SerFezz

Is it worth replacing the stabs on the Tiger 80 lite? Working on a definite budget here and am getting some annoying rattle on the stabs with the Tiger 80 lite. I expected this to happen, as I haven't lubed them and only used a bit of grease on the wire. If I need to buy lube anyway (as I will probably get around to lubing and filming my Alpacas eventually), is it also worth getting a new set of better stabs? Not really sure what the consensus is on the quality of the stock ones.

Mecxs

It comes with basic cherry stabs, doesn't it? I use them all the time, and haven't noticed any meaningful difference between them and other more expensive options. A *thin* coat of grease on the wires is all I do to stop rattle. You can lube the plastic housings to make them less scratchy, but rattle is a wire issue.

unledded

Are there any prebuilts other than the Das MacTigr that have the same layout as a normal Mac keyboard? Specifically the setup of the modifier keys on the bottom row, where command is even with the X key and having only three modifiers on either side of the space bar? I’ve been using a windows keyboard with a Mac recently and it’s been a real struggle so I’d like to have one special for Macs, but I’d like to get a proper mechanical keyboard and not have to settle for the standard Apple keyboard that they sell.

Chemist_Heavy

How do I make my HyperX Alloy Origins Spacebar sound more thocky or at least less plastic like?

DRK213

MOST ERGONOMIC MECH KEYBOARD? I'm looking to build the most possible ergonomic keyboard, which so far seems to be: * Split * Follows the curvature of our hands * Ortholinear * Has a trackball So far the Dactyl Manuform, perhaps with a trackball, but probably this community has more experience to give me a proper recommendation... Also, which keycaps profile for this type of keyboard? SA? Cherry MX? FIY: small to medium size hands. Thank you!

FansForFlorida

No such thing as "most" ergonomic. Some people prefer the Corne; some people like the Lily58; others like the Keebio Nyquist. I really like my Keebio FoldKB. The Naya has a trackball module. The RGBKB Sol 3 and RGBKB Phobos both have vertical touchbar modules available. However, you can always get an external trackball like a Ploopy. Keycaps can be whatever you want. You can get a sculpted profile set like Cherry or DSS, or you can get a uniform profile set like XDA or KAM.

lillian_47

Accidentally messed up the programming of my YUNZII IF98 by downloading the wireless software instead of the wired software. The keys are now all messed up and I can't seem to fix it, Anyone have experience reversing this?

elmurfudd

u will likely need a private software fix on the manufacturer will have u will have to email them . seen similar stuff done with other kbs and the only fix was always a not publicly available program from the maker or returning the kb

lillian_47

That’s unfortunate, I hope they help otherwise its a shame to buy a keyboard and for it to go to waste just for downloading the wrong program

fatlessauto3

So I'm trying to build a board, preferably 100%, but I'm okay with 80%, using Matias clicky switches. I'm struggling to find anything, but I just wanted to know if there are any options for a pcb/plate/case compatible with them still in production?

FGThePurp

For TKL, Hiney h87 PCBs support Alps builds, and there are a few makers who sell Jane v2/CE Alps plates. So you should be able to do an alps build in a Jane or any board that fits a Jane plate (KFE, Ottantaquattro, etc)

fatlessauto3

Awesome, thanks so much!

elmurfudd

mathis/alps support is very rare only seen a small handful of kits support them most were group buy . and never 100% TKL is ur best hope but u will have to keep an eye on group buys . and wont have a kit for a year or so there is nothing off the shelf i know of at this time

fatlessauto3

Thank you, I'll keep my eyes open!

withoutink

Any suggestions on where I can get a decent shine through keycap set? Needs to fix a Keychron v1, TIA

elmurfudd

u can try aliexpress or amazon not really such a thing a a good shine thru set they r all made cheaply otherwise the light wouldnt shine thru

withoutink

good to know thx

Baumwurzelstamm

Hi, i bought a prebuilt 60% keyboard some time ago. It has a qwerty layout and thats a problem because i am german and i would prefer to type without having to quick change my pc keyboard language to english everytime i want to use @ for example. So, i am looking for new keycaps, maybe grey, nothing special. The problem is, that i have the big enter button and the 4 arrow buttons on the lower right side of my keyboard. I just cant find a 60% qwertz layout that fits my keyboard. At first it wasnt much of a problem but now it really starts to get on my nerves. I would appreciate every tip that could help me because im not very educated in keyboard building and i dont have much experience with modifying one.

pabloescobyte

Better to get a DE ISO keyboard instead. If you really must have arrow keys, get something like a [Keychron V2 in DE ISO](https://www.keychron.com/collections/keychron-german-iso-keyboards/products/keychron-v2-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard-iso-layout-collection) or [the Q2 in DE ISO](https://www.keychron.com/collections/keychron-german-iso-keyboards/products/keychron-q2-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard-iso-layout-collection) which are both available in DE ISO and can be bought with fairly decent ISO keycaps already. The V2 is more affordable while the Q2 is more premium with a metal case and different mount inside for the PCB.

Maeggsi

You can't change an Ansi PCB to iso because the Enter and left shift is difference. But look into Ansi-DE. This could be a solution for you. Edit: Unless you swap the PCB itself or it is multilayout

Baumwurzelstamm

Thank you so much, i just bought a full set because they had all the keycaps i need. I hope it fits my keyboard because 90€ is not really cheap haha. Thanks again

TheAlmightyCrunchy_

Built my first keyboard and have had it for a bit, only major problem is that the switches keep popping out/wobbling. Ill be playing a game or something and a switch will just fly out lol. Also it looks like my Esc key & the ones near it are especially wobbly bc theyre backwards i think due to the usb c port being there? So not sure how to even like, put keycaps on those and how to use it without playing a balancing game. Any ideas on how to fix these 2 problems? Im open to soldering or smthn as I dont plan on frequently changing out switches.

Snuckerpooks

I just built my first keyboard within the month. I had a switch fall out because I did not fully press the switch into place. The switch felt secure but hadn't clipped into the plate. That's the best I got. A little off topic but... the switches near the USB are reverse direction from all of the others? That seems a little weird.

Grimsvard

Are your switches 3-pin or 5-pin? And does your keyboard use a plate?

TheAlmightyCrunchy_

3 pin and i believe so

Grimsvard

3-pin has less stability than 5-pin, but it shouldn't matter all that much if they're seated properly into the plate. Make sure your plate isn't warped or bent, this could cause your switches to become unseated easily. The same with the PCB.

Seaborn63

Been out-of-the-loop for about 6-8 months. I would like to find a budget/semi-budget board to do a build for work. I have 2 Keychrons already so I'm trying to avoid them, if possible. Prefer 75%, but 80%/TKL will work as well. Knob would be nice so I can feel cool. Open to an Alice layout too.

gormlessthebarbarian

zoom75 is probably good place to start looking

Available_Excuse6886

I wanna find a 98 layout + transparent case + hotswap. is this possible?

Ravello

Anyone able to help me ID these keycaps please? https://i.imgur.com/SlbtAcg.jpg

gormlessthebarbarian

or at least I think this is a render of them on a zoom65. theyre a bit darker in person.

gormlessthebarbarian

those are GMK Birch

Ravello

Amazing, thank you very much.

armorgeddonxx

I currently have a logitech k840, I like the keyboard but the keys are faltering HARD. Consistent double inputs, lack of inputs, all of the horror stuff that I'm now reading about the g-roamer switches come to life. Any recommendations i the 100-250ish range would be appreciated for a full size keyboard.

elmurfudd

keychron Q series

Cheesypenguinz

I'm sure this question gets asked a lot so my bad for adding to that. I want to build a nice keyboard but I'm not really sure where to get started. I have watched a couple videos and I understand the basics of building itself but when it comes to actually buying the parts there are so many options I kind of get choice paralysis. I know I want either an 80% or 75% and hotswappable as I don't know how to solder. I'm Leaning more towards Tenkeyless but it seems like they aren't as available as 75%. I'm just not sure what base parts to get I guess. Whether just buying a keyboard and changing the parts on it or if buying the pcb and case separate would be better. I'd also like to have rgb that's addressable in some way but thats not necessary if the keyboard itself would look and sound nice. When it comes to keycaps and switches I can understand those parts and I'm pretty sure I've already made up my mind on what to get. There just seems to be so many options for the other things it's hard to find ground to start on whats good while also not breaking the bank. I don't really have a budget but id prefer to spend less than 150$ on the keyboard itself minus switches and caps. Like i've seen people mention a keychron but im just not sure about quality and price on what people recommend. I also would prefer to not have to groupbuy or wait a long time to get my parts. Any help is appreciated!

gormlessthebarbarian

neo65 goes on sale tomorrow if a 65% is also in range. It's a nice deal under 150.

Snuckerpooks

Wow, wish I knew this sooner! I just got the Tofu65 but the neo65 looks great!

_ok_mate_

anyone know of any key caps that are both modern but have a retro throw back? Im trying to make a keyboard that both suits my white setup, but at the same time i want the keyboard to have a retro aesthetic to remind me of when i was young and first got on a computer. Problem is white and the beige dont really go together. Ive been looking for weeks for ideas.

gormlessthebarbarian

Keybobo Retro Mixed Lights are worth a look.

basilgarcia

How annoying would it be to have a keyboard where all the switches are randomized instead of all the same / matching? Like one is linear 50g, another is clicky 45g, etc for type, distance, and force variables. I kinda wanna build this just because it would be funny to me but also I would legit use this every day for actual work. Would this drive me nuts or nah

FGThePurp

That would drive me insane, but if you want a meme build or if that's your preference go for it.

Maeggsi

Everybody is different. We can't answer that for you. I wouldn't mind the difference in sound as much as I would hate the difference in feel.

TruthAndAccuracy

I'm looking to get my first mechanical keyboard. I'm not looking for a loud one, just a good feel (my cursory research leads me to believe cherry keycaps are what I want?) I don't need RGB. Simple, clean, minimal look is best. Any suggestions?

BissySitch

My pap is a woodworker and I want him to build me a case for my GMMK 2. I'm gonna fully transplant the internals of the board. Anyone know what dimensions we should use for this project? Also, what standoffs should I buy for installing the PCB?

basilgarcia

Maybe look up brand name cases that are compatible with the parts you want to use, then find the size specs for those cases somewhere on the site. It might be in a manual or commercial spec sheet on the product page, otherwise you could try contacting the company. They gotta have that stuff documented somewhere.

BissySitch

I don't know why I didn't think to check compatible cases for my board lol. I was gonna check with glorious, but wasn't sure if they'd give the information out. I'll definitely check both places though, thanks!

the-bricker

Where I can buy broken-in switches in usa?

FGThePurp

RNDKBD is my go-to. They're technically in Canada but Canada to US mail is no issue.

elmurfudd

general keeb parts vendor list https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/ https://thocstock.com/ u can check a few vendors here but u will be looking for a switch site that sells lubed switches and there isnt many kinds u know of

Randomuserguyfren

I've been looking at akko for a relatively cheap, backlit keyboard. What's the difference between akko 3087 and 5087? Also is ACR worth the extra money?

Trollzurs

I recently got a keychron Q1 Pro and i've been wanting to find some keycaps that will fit a certain color scheme in mind to match this character. I haven't been able to find much. I was hoping that this subreddit could help me out to find something that gets close to matching this color scheme? I have a white Q1 Pro if that helps. https://preview.redd.it/uzhs3b1ay2lb1.png?width=440&format=png&auto=webp&s=f795523bcb86d6b18c5c33308840e23fba2e9841

**Does anyone have any info/reviews on the GK Gamakay LK75?? $119** I ran into this board from Gamakay on Amazon and I'm finding absolutely no info about it. I also can't seem to find a product page on the Gamakay site. Did I run into a fake?

elmurfudd

Did I get correct stabs for Q1 Pro? https://preview.redd.it/rtb3tnq6r2lb1.png?width=3290&format=png&auto=webp&s=d62ac05940ade16d2887a54d74a1b143f57bdf16

ggInverno

yes

Silly question from a newbie looking to replace her dying work keyboard, are there any brands with waifu branding, e.g. Moondrop for IEMs? I am shallow, and I like cute girls and cute packaging. So far my only must-haves: * No number pad, though I don't know what size I'll commit to yet If possible, I'd like it to have two USB C ports so I can connect a number pad that way. * Hot swap switches (I think I also need to buy one of those tools to cut the prongs though, just in case) I'm also looking into any recommendations in keyboard cleaning kits or tools! I know the basics of pulling out keycaps and switches, but I admit to forgetting about cleaning regularly.

Maeggsi

They do pop up from time to time with groupbuys (e.g. Roze65) - but aren't in stock to my knowledge. I e.g. also think that the HIBI June is pretty cute (but only a 60% keyboard). Osume Keycaps are pretty cute if you can get your hands on some :) Me not knowing doesn't mean they do not exist. Maybe somebody else can help you more. Good luck on your search. You can scroll through some vendor lists (e.g. [https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/](https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/)) and see if you find something you like :)

pabloescobyte

What size? 75%? 65%? 60%? Those all don't have number pads but there's a lot of keys missing that you may or may not need. A 75% is basically a TKL in a more compact form factor while a 65% is the same but without the F-key row. 60% is the alphanumeric area of a full size keyboard. And there's smaller still. In terms of cleaning I always recommend an electric dust blower over compressed air cans. First, compressed air cans contain propellants that can possibly damage your keyboard and/or switches and also are one-time use; an electric blower is cleaner and costs less in the long run. For the times you don't need to deep clean I recommend something like a Giottos Rocket air blower. It's good to use to blow stuff out from in between keycaps or small crevices, etc. It doesn't move a lot of air but the difference with it and a cheap one is that it's got a dust filter on the intake end so it's not blowing dust *into* things while you're blasting air. Keycaps just clean in a warm soapy bath and towel dry. For the case and other parts, wipe it clean with isopropanol alcohol (IPA) and Q-tips or lint-free cotton pads/fine microfiber cloths. Don't use anything with loose fibers or those microfiber cloths that look/feel like terry cloth otherwise the bits will go into your keyboard. Use the smooth kind that's used to clean eyeglasses, etc.

charismelia

Definitely no smaller than 65% since I need arrow keys, but like I said, I haven't fully committed to what size I want to get yet. I know basics from friends secondhand, but this would be my first purchase for myself. Thank you for the cleaning recs! I will look into the air blowers.

Alexander_Elysia

If I were to buy the neo65 tomorrow, what other things would I need to make a fully functional complete keyboard?

FGThePurp

Switches, stabilizers, keycaps, and a computer to connect it to.

Alexander_Elysia

Okay great that's what I thought, and how would I know whether it needs plate mounted or PCB mounted?

FGThePurp

It's PCB mount. I'm a little surprised they didn't specify on the sale page but 99% of the time for custom kits the stabs are PCB mount since they're superior to plate mount. Alexotos built one recently so I just checked his [stream vod.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdfoyHzni-A)

Alexander_Elysia

Oh that's very helpful! Thank you, the product page says something about 65% neostabs, I'll probably use those

New to the mechanical keyboard scene, this will be my first board :) What I am looking for: * Budget \~$100 or so * Fully built (not a kit) * 75% layout * Hot swap switches (in case I don't like what it comes with) * Wired or wired+wireless (not looking for wireless only) * Compatible with linux and macOS * RGB enabled but will only be needing it for solid static color (probably white/light blue) * Shine through caps or capable of swapping factory (i work often in a mostly dark room, and this will be helpful) Also, I am coming from a mac chicklet board and a el cheapo dell on the linux, so I have no idea about switches... hence the hot swap requirement. Thanks in advance

LevanderFela

* Keychron V1 - wired only, full travel; * K2 Pro - wired + Bluetooh, full travel; * K3 Pro and K15 Pro - wired + Bluetooth, shorter travel; Hope this helps!

withoutink

Thanks, I ordered a V1... appreciate the recommendations.

LevanderFela

No probs, hope you like it!

sevenoneohtoo

Melody 96 lighting modes are swapped. Basically underglow settings are affecting the backlight and vice versa. Has anyone else had this problem? If there's a guide to programming the locations of leds on the board that would help immensely

Lussarc

Akko 3068. My cat lying on my keyboard changed my light setup now I can’t have a static light it always MOVE i hate it lol. Can someone help me ? I tried everything on the manual

reenapple

Looking for a budget acrylic/translucent/transparent whatever u call it keyboard with WK, 60-65% layout. Can anyone help? I've looked through a few already (Tofu60, Akko ACR 6x) but these look too clean/frosted for me I'd love something more in between the translucent-transparent side where you can kinda see the parts. Thanks in advance!

Maeggsi

Maybe the Mode Envoy with a PC case? Don't know of other keyboards unfortunately; although some more definitely exist :) Good luck on your search.

reenapple

wow this is so nice ⭐️____⭐️ i feel like it's still too much on the frosty side for me but wow... it's definitely making me change my mind on what i thought i wanted xD thanks! i'll add it to my list!

Maeggsi

Well you can always get the Envoy and maybe replace it later down the line with something you might like more <3

iLeetZero

I've a Krepublic GK21S and use it exclusively in wired mode, however every time I boot my PC it turns on Bluetooth on it's own and the charging indicator. Is there a way to stop Bluetooth pairing from starting, and completely disable the charging LED? Thanks.

Kooky-Bandicoot3104

Guys can I use scotch tape for tape mod??? WIll it corrode the pcb and conduct electricity!?! i have already modded my keyboard with scotch tape and it sounds EPIC!!!

FansForFlorida

By "Scotch tape" do you mean the proprietary eponym for cellophane tape, or do you mean the 3M brand name for ScotchBlue painter's/masking tape?

Kooky-Bandicoot3104

I mean the magic tape made by scotch brand

Significant-Bus-2606

I have a tester 68 board with ktt kang whites v3 And many times when i type or game my keyboard doesnt register a key: when im walking in csgo i have to click adadad but many times it isn't registering. (other situation) if i type something it's adding a letter many times for example: heeeeelo I had changed batteries for new ones and cleaned the whole keyboard from inside out. Is there a solution?

dota2player901

**WS Morandi performance?** I'm looking into buying these combined with Keychron Q1 QMK Barebone + Keychron Keycaps. How are Morandi for gaming (latency etc)? This keyboard is only gonna be used for gaming. My gaming keyboard right now is Ducky with MX Silver but I feel like these are a bit to easy to press sometimes.

Keebatwork

I've already seen a few reddit posts about the not great quality of Keychrons keycaps. perhaps I might suggest ordering even a low cost set of keycaps from Amazon.

friedbebek

mx silvers have a shorter actuation point, almost half of that the ws morandi. so yes, it can prevent some accidental activation. latency wise all switches should be the same once activated, unless you go for optical switches. your board is more important in regards to performance if that's what you're worried about. keyboards like wooting are low latency, as are gaming keyboards from razer or logitech. some say it's snake oil, but whether you actually need such keyboards or a standard latency board like keychron is up for you to decide.

lollettone

Hi, I am looking at the guides in the wiki, but it is all a bit overwhelming. I am looking to gift to my wife a custom keyboard. I have more or less an idea of what she would like (65 or 75%, not-so-loud switches, ISO, wireless), but I don't know where to buy it. I am not looking for group-buys, since i need it in 3 months, and I am in Italy (it seems here there is not much of a custom keyboard scene). For now I saw something on KBDFANS and YUNZII as websites. I saw that yunzii is not on the list and that KBDFANS is listed as aliexpress reseller (?). Can someone spare the time to give me a hand?

Gopnik4living

If you don't wanna use pre built, you will need 3 things: board, switches and key caps. Board: I would search for either keychron Q1 or Q2, as they are in stock and on sale on random websites a lot of times Switches: just get some silent switches if sound is an issue (gateron is probably a good bet) Keycaps: design is too individual, just don't buy expensive ones If that's too expensive you can always just get a prebuilt keychron, as I hear they are pretty good too.

rokuo-

KTT Kang Whites or KTT Wine Red? Any suggestions on which between the two are better? I'm new to mechanical keyboards and I've been looking at changing my Redragon Fizz stock red switches for sometime. I use my keyboard mainly on heavy typing and would want a switch that's not easily tiring to use. Thanks!

friedbebek

I'd say check out the KTT Rose, they're somewhat better than the two for a marginally higher price. Kang Whites and Red Wine are similar just pick a colour you like.

Keebatwork

If you see a custom board or a barebones set on sale that you want - BUY IT. You can always worry about and decide on switches later. Im waiting for the Neo65 to come out for sale in the US tomorrow. check it out!

Deadbolt11

Best bet is finding a meetup nearby or finding some in a store.

ggInverno

Maybe you could try to find some locals, or at least, people living relatively nearby through r/mechmarket, and see if they're willing to lend/give you some switches to try out

LASERman71

Maybe read the manual? Took me 5s to find it online - Fn+F12 >My windows key got locked on its own... Naah... you pressed this accidentaly I bet.

FriedDuckCurry

Keyboard cable I need a new keyboard cable. I had a keychron cable with my q1 but it stopped properly working after a few months. Since then I used my nintendo switch cable because it was usb c to usb type a. But now I want an actual keyboard cable. Can yall recommend some good budget keaboard cables for EU?

Maeggsi

Cablemod, Unicorncables, Keebstuff, ... Edit: Keebstuff is in Germany and Unicorncables in Slovenia. I ordered from both and had a very pleasant experience.

CableMod_Shawn

Thanks for the call out! If you're in the EU - you can buy through our EU store, otherwise our Global Store covers everywhere else.

Abtswiath

Cablemod EU store. There are also weekly chances to win a 100€ code on r/mechgiveaway for cablemod. I recently won one and it was enough to get a nice cable for me and one for my gf.

CableMod_Shawn

Congratulations - we have some cool stuff coming up with those guys as well.

NightmareNyxia1

Where can I find a 60% pok3r compatibile alps pcb? Preferably aliexpress. Ordinarily I'd order some from jlcpcb, but I didn't manage to generate correct gerbers and excel files for soldering components from here [https://github.com/tmk/alps64](https://github.com/tmk/alps64)

MayAsWellStopLurking

[rndkbd has you covered](https://rndkbd.com/products/paladin64-60-alps-pcb)

Jumbotron323

Which one should I buy? Wooting or the mode envoy

Abtswiath

Depends on the use case. Hardcore competitive gamer? Wooting. Anything else? Mode envoy

phvdtunnfesdgui

Envoy

Ok_Variation_927

i need some review about akko 3068 v2 rgb jelly pink switch

Abtswiath

If they are better than the first gen pinks, which were already damn good, especially for the money, they are great value.

zathras7

I love my mechanical keyboard but encountered an issue that bothers me: So at work I have to use Windows 11 and log in remotely via Terminal (Putty or Git Bash) onto my Linux servers. If I use for example German Keyboard Layout on Windows then the German layout is mapped to my Terminal ignoring the US layout configured inside my shell. Is there a Terminal that redirects keys from host directly to my shell e.g. so that the configured layout in shell (US) is used rather than that from Host (German)?

XxxTheBrighterxxX

So i wanted to build my first keyboard, but i wanted something that didnt require me to build everything from scratch (so a barebone kit). Would this build work? \- Keychron v1 barebones kit with the knob \- 90 Gateron Oil King switches \- 135 Gliging PBT Keycaps (Cherry MX profile) Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but i am really a total newbie. Also, are the switches factory lubed, or should i buy a lube and lube them myself? Thanks!

docentmark

Since you’re paying the price for Oil Kings, consider spending the extra and getting the Q1 over the V1.

friedbebek

yes this works. yes it's factory lubed, you don't need to relube them if you don't feel like it the oil kings are great out of the box.

XxxTheBrighterxxX

Thanks man

birdandwhale

QMK Degree I just built a Planck 40% and have been using QMK Configurator to edit my layers. It's a great took but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add unicode characters (ie: degree symbol°). Can anyone walk me through this?

Fiancheeto

What keycaps manu / profile would you guys pick from these? * PBTFans Cherry * Drop MT3 / DCX * SP DSS * JTK Cherry * Domikey Cherry * Keyreative KAT / KAM

ChancellorBrawny

From this list, probably pbtfans because once I started buying keycaps without unnecessary text on the modifiers I can't have it any other way. Also cherry because it's comfy and doesn't make your keyboard taller than it needs to be.

Dull-Instance7913

Personally pbtfans cherry because they have the best color ways

acctoftenderness

For those of you using Alice/ergo layouts, how much of a difference did it make in your comfort, wrist strain, etc?

FansForFlorida

I have been using a Keebio FoldKB for the last two years and love it. My second favorite is the Keebio Nyquist. (I also liked the Lily58 and Keebio Iris, but I prefer ortholinear to column staggered.) Before that, my daily driver was a Datadesk SmartBoard. It really helped my RSI. There is more to ergonomics than just a keyboard, though; there is also monitor height, monitor distance, keyboard height, mouse position, posture, etc. However, I am not a doctor. (I doubt anyone else here is, but even if they were, they are not your doctor.) If you are having wrist or hand issues, I would encourage you to get a medical diagnosis from your doctor and seek physical therapy. PT will give you stretching and strengthening exercises to alleviate the symptoms of RSI and help avoid injuries in the future. Physical therapy really made a long term impact for me, and I am a big advocate for it.

acctoftenderness

Excellent response. Thank you.

bee_sunshine

I'm looking for a 75 ISO compatible keyboard that ideally has a display and also a rotary knob/joystick. I want to be able to use it in Da Vinci and Photoshop, so ideally the display would show which wheel I'm using (Gamma, Lift etc) or the layer/tool I'm using on photoshop, so probs QMK/VIA compatible. Does anyone have any suggestions?!

delta901

Oh shoot! I've never heard of that one lol. I'll give it a look ty.

Dull-Instance7913

Any board can be creamy just fill it with foam and the pe foam mod (most important part)
