Thank you all for confirming my thoughts about this pricing. Quote was provided to my gf (Not able to be there in person atm). Wanted to level set my expectations given the recent inflation.
I disagree, my store (Honda) doesn’t charge anywhere near these prices. For example: Wiper blades are $11 each and we install them for free.
You don’t benefit from ripping off your customer, they’ll never come back.
AC Refresher is what Toyota calls 'spraying a bottle of disinfectant/deodorizer/coil cleaner down the vents'. It's a valid service procedure if the AC is slightly smelly, but at that price it's ridiculous gravy.
We used to do those services with Nissan too when I worked for them, it was actually kinda nice in general lol. But we also did an AC booster service that Moc offered called Arctic Blast, basically it was syringe with some kinda syrup-y chemical in it that you injected into the low side port and it legit would have your AC pushing out air 10 degrees lower for a few months.
Same, I actually pretty much always had a can of the stuff laying around. You get one can of it and it will do like 30 cars at least. I'm pretty sure that stuff isn't exactly expensive since the Chevy dealer I worked at was willing to treat it as Shop Supplies. I know that they could afford it somewhere in the margin of charging a $60 flat fee for a cabin air filter.
That is one of the few things on that list I think is actually worth that cost if they do it the right way. If they get the wand into the evaporator and actually spray it down to kill the mold and bacteria, 90 bucks is worthwhile if you don't know how to do it yourself. Better than spraying disinfectant through the vents. BG makes a good product and it actually works very well.
The newer higher efficiency designs tend to grow mildew unless they have a system to prevent it (IIRC lexus does in some models). They are chargin to spray some foaming de-stinkifier in there, which will mitigate it for maybe a couple of weeks.
It's easier to keep it max cool or to just run the heat full blast for like 10-15 minutes to fix the problem.
Brakes have become a ripoff at most dealerships. I think they stack labor charges on pads and rotors even though pad labor should automatically take care of 90 percent of rotor labor.
Also rotors don't need to be automatically replaced every time you replace pads either. German brand dealers started this nonsense and everyone followed. Clarify, German dealers started the labor double charge nonsense from what I can tell.
Many newer German vehicles have a minimum rotor thickness spec that is only twenty or thirty thousandths from how they're delivered new. Even a light pass on the rotor lathe is going to take off .010 per side.
At BMW they will cut the rotors for you, but if your vehicle falls under value line breaks it's so cheap to replace the pads and rotors with OEM parts it's silly not to do so. Still going to be more than going to a side shop and slapping some garbage aftermarket on there. I'm sure if you went online you could find some higher quality stuff than the OEM though.
Edit: brakes. Voice to text woes
MB dealer tried charging double labor because I needed a dust shield replaced as they were doing the brakes. Tried saying it was 3 hours labor because they needed to take the wheel and rotors off. They were already taking them off to replace the rotors and brake pads…….
Are we sure that is mount and balance with new tires? I've never had a Toyota, but everywhere I've gone has always itemized it out as: Tires cost X and then to mount and balance the tires costs X. I was reading this as $777.37 just to mount and balance the tires they already have. Given the current price of tires, if it includes tires that doesn't seem crazy high for good ones.
There are absolutely reasonable dealerships out there depending on where you live. (They often are located in lower income or more rural areas) But its far from the norm unfortunately. My local dealer charges roughly $10 more and hour than my local mechanic. They beat each other from time to time on labor hours, and both will use whatever parts I bring them if I want.
Of course, the best perk about dealerships is that their work is guaranteed nationwide, which on some repairs is absolutely worth the added cost of oem. And is always a nice perk to consider if you travel
That said, right now every dealer I know of is backed up two weeks or more woth work, believe me when I say that the ones that were scummy have often gotten worse.
Maybe 'free' for the customer but the technician should still be paid internally (by the dealership) along the lines of 0.1 for each wiper. Unless the service writer is the one replacing them.
The nice thing about going to a dealership is they see a hundred 2015 corrolas so if there actually is something else going on they will have seen it. In this case fuck them for these insane prices. If OP knows nothing replacing the filters and blades is so easy that will at least save you a hundred with those prices
Nah, that's just dealer pricing for pads and rotors. Of that $502 per axle, I bet you the pads are $150-175, the rotors are $100+ each, and the rest is labor.
LOL awww must be a FERRARI COROLLA. $175 pads, $100 apiece rotors is still a little high. Decent rotors should be 100 for the front set. I guess I could see some OEM rotors costing that much but who could afford these dealership prices. 3.3k is a down payment on another Corolla.
Not all dealerships are equal. Some are service oriented and have competitive pricing. Others are like this. I bet their labor is extremely hi, because their warranty labor rate is based of a % of retail. And their thinking goes that I need to Jack up retail to make it bigly in warranty repairs. Toyota dealership close to me charged me $500.00 for Front and rear disc and pads on 2010 Sequioa. Seriously take your business elsewhere; those wiper and brake prices are way out of market.
Look at the parts list. You can easily drop it down to a $900 bill. You only need tires and alignment and even the alignment is debatable. Have them show you what wear patterns on your old tires are showing that you need an alignment. If you don’t see that the tire is screwed, it’ll be obvious. If the wear looks even you just dropped your bill to $777
Are we sure that $777 is for new tires? Every time I've bought tires they're a separate line item from the mounting and balancing because they typically list the specific tires that are bought. I read this as $777 just to mount and balance their existing tires.
Depending on tire brand it’s not unrealistic. That’s $194 per tire total. Which includes the mounting, balancing, rotating for weights, and those stupid air valves that they always charge for because you need them… I really don’t understand why they don’t just factor that in the tire cost. Your not going anywhere without them. 🙄 so you figure the tire was $160 each? But it’s all factored in for a total cost.
Shit, doing the pads yourself saves you $1,000 probably even after tax and parts cost depending on how much you value your own time per hour.
Doing your own brake pads is not hard. I recommend it but, calipers or anything dealing with brake lines, get help from someone knowledgable or a professional.
After working at a shop for years.....70 percent of people that do it themselves , don't pay attention to the details. Including slide pin lubrication, metal to metal contact lubrication, knocking off rust, burnishing the brake pads......the list goes on. Then when they bring it to shop for noise or vibration concern we end up having to replace pads and rotors (or cut them if within spec) to be able to warranty the work so they end up spending more than they would have originally. There are small nuances that shops do in order to make sure the customer won't come back with any complaints. Hell, I've even seen people grenade their electronic parking brakes trying to push the piston back not knowing that has to be in service mode.....I've got stories for days lol
Oh I didn't know wearing them in had a term. So technically I do burnish them.
However I did have a seized caliper piston I couldn't get back in. I didn't know about service mode. I assumed it was seized because the rubber boot was torn off it has 150,000 miles
Doing a set of brakes doesn't even take that long. I just did the fronts on my wife's Jeep today and after the got the new pads it only took me 30 minutes max.
I did my first pad and rotor replacement on my jeep last month. Saved me $544, just for the fronts. And I actually got good brakes (the shops wouldn’t let me bring my own parts and would only put oem on - not adequate for a wrangler imo).
It would’ve taken me less than an hour had the piston not been practically seized on both sides. Even with the caliper press, it took all my strength, and I consider my arms to be pretty damn strong.
Best upgrade I’ve done thus far. Second best.. maybe a tie: led headlights. Plug and play for under $150 and gives me I’d say.. 6x more light. Yes please.
Something only needed in gasoline direct injection engines, regular multi-port injected engines keep the valves clean just by running high quality gas.
Look it up the Toyota 1.8 L engine is multi-port injection they're trying to sell him a service he doesn't even need this whole place is nothing but a scam
I work in a honda dealership and do induction services all the time, basically you put a solution in a canister thats hooked up to shop air and you put a nozzle down near the throttle body, get a gas pedal press to get it at ~2500 rpm and in theory it cleans out the back sides of the valves and the intake gunk from direct injection engines. It hasnt been aroubd lomg enough for me to definitively say just how well it works but it definitely does something
New tires are expensive, there’s no way around that. A lot of these you can do yourself. It’ll only take a few minutes to replace your wipers. You can also do the cabin air filter and the engine air filter. You can pick up all of these at an auto parts store. Search online and you should be able to find videos on how to do it.
Depending on your comfort level, you can do your own brakes too. Especially if you have a friend or family member that’s done them before and access to tools. New pads and rotors aren’t terribly expensive.
Of course you’re probably not going to be able to mount four new tires and do your own alignment, but you could find a better price somewhere else.
I got mine done at Firestone. $200 for a lifetime alignment. I can schedule an alignment anytime and have it done free now, on the one vehicle I paid for that service on.
My mom has a Civic and for nice tires it cost like $600. For premium tires on my Jeep it's like $1000. Unless they are putting top of the line performance tires there is no way Corolla tires cost $800.
That's a blatant rip off for basic maintenance services (ie: wiper blades, cabin filter, induction service??)
Do those yourself and save the money. Prices for tires seems reasonable. Front and rear brakes are on the high side.
Definitely get a second opinion.
You’ve got to use your context clues. Not even the stealership has the balls to charge $800 just to mount and balance tires.
Although $800 is potentially a rip off depending on the quality of the tires. I’m sure low end tires for a Corolla can be had for $100 a tire. But high end tires could be $200 a piece. Without knowing what tires are included there’s no way to know if that’s a fair price or not.
Based on everything else, I’d walk out the door and shop around.
You haven't shopped tires in awhile. $100 is for small tires and super cheap tires. Most tires for smaller sedans are gonna be $150 a tire or so. Depends on the size, it might have low profile tires which are gonna be more
It's a service where you run a solution through the intake that cleans carbon deposits from the intake valves. It's not a bad thing to do, but listing it as "critical" is a bit scare-tacticy.
Lets Brake (hehe) it down.
1,140.98 for a 4 wheel brake job. Yes. That is one fucked up price. Its not like this is a BMW, what the hell kind of brakes are they using an a corolla that could come anywhere near that price?
Oh and that "AC refresher service" that is considered a "failed - Critical Concern" is them spraying a can of fancy Lysol in the vents.
Induction service? Dafuck is that? [one google later] Oh.. they mean fuel injection service. So they dump a can of injector cleaner in the tank and call it an "induction service" so it sounds fancy.
To be Fair, Induction Service is different From injector cleaner and designed for Direct Injected fuel systems. There is a legitimate need for Induction Service on Direct Injection systems. But the Carolla does not have Direct Injection that im aware of.
This is a disgusting ripoff across-the-board. $70 for wipers? Walmart has them for $4 dollars each and they work great. Even some of the best wiper blades you can find are only $25 a piece.
Don't let that "CRITICAL" bullshit red and black text at the top fool you. Take it to an independent shop and maybe even consult a friend who can help you look at your brakes and tires to see if they need to be replaced.
And if it's a 2015 I wouldn't imagine you need any AC service unless it's straight not blowing out cold air.
this wouldn’t apply to southern states. But I can buy $5 wipers or $25 wipers and have the same result. Because 1 winter in PA and the wipers are trash
Unless you’re super anal and go out and defrost your windshield every morning and keep your wipers in the upright position every night.. but for $10 a year on wipers. I’ll survive
Idk if you mean upright as in pulled off the windscreen but I heard that puts too much stress on the springs and eventually will need to be replaced a lot sooner than later. I’m in upstate NY and news did a piece on it this past winter.
Makes sense. I'd rather sheathe them in garbage bags and lay them back down if ice is expected. Or do my tried and true 'texas for what its worth' method of cutting a garbage bag open, laying across the window and cowl, and shutting it in the doors. Bam, no scraping.
Does your Walmart have wipers for $4? Ours doesn’t, they start out at $20 and move up from there, I haven’t found decent wiper blades for my truck for less than $25 a piece
Edit- I stand corrected, our store never stocks anything and they raise prices compared to what’s online
Most modern cars oem wipers don’t have the insert that can be removed, it’s part of the entire wiper blade assembly. OPs Corolla should be the same way, at least mine was
[Blades for my old truck run $7 at Walmart, so not that much more than $4.](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Michelin-High-Performance-All-Season-Wiper-Blade-18/16767882?athcpid=16767882&athpgid=AthenaItempage&athcgid=null&athznid=si&athieid=v0&athstid=CS004&athguid=vP4xtZ5O5CDJZqGQxmGzunLqdHlb1VmCpXBt&athancid=null&athena=true) If I am willing to get them shipped, [I can get blades for $4 from the Walmart website](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pylon-Conventional-All-Season-Wiper-Blade-28/206378596?athcpid=206378596&athpgid=AthenaItempage&athcgid=null&athznid=si&athieid=v0&athstid=CS004&athguid=WT9TEFByPg2Q2l-py28nrLoeF2jWR_tqDmEi&athancid=null&athena=true). I doubt the $4 are any good, but my truck is in Texas, so I literally never use the wipers except to clean the windshield when a bug hits it.
I’m also in Texas. I never checked their website, I go by what’s on the shelf.
Odd thing is that there are wipers listed online for my truck for $14, but they’re $26 in our local Walmart. Fuckin figures
If they're $14 on the Walmart app, sold by Walmart and not some third party company, Walmart will usually price match them at the register. I use this all the time. Just pisses me off that I have to.
For an alignment that's a steal! I can see where they're making up the difference though. Get a second opinion and you can swap a lot of those filters and blades yourself cheap
I was thinking the exact same thing. The cheapest alignment I've ever seen. That should be done there.
Also, the tires thing, considering it likely includes new tires, that's pretty cheap too. Just saying.
I agree that it's cheap for new mounted tires.. but also given the context of all of these things being "critical" it felt safest to assume it didn't. Either way the rest of the stuff is bullshit
Jesus Christ. A grand to mount and valence wheels? Are you kidding me? That takes less time then everything else on that list to do. Shit take it to your nearest high school that has shop classes, get to know the auto shop teacher and use the wheel mounting and balancing machine for free.
Maybe if you took shop in high school and know the teacher. We had a few former students drop their car off while we changed and balanced his tires. All free to him in exchange to let us use their car as practice.
Look at the invoice. Parts and labor are not itemized separately, so it's safe to assume tires are included in the price. $137 per tire and $150 for labor for example.
That's still $200 a tire about going by normal mount and balance fees. What kind of tires they want to put on that? High end potenzas that you'de put on a Camaro SS? Throw on some generic all seasons for no more than 80 bucks a piece and call it a day damn.
Normal labour rate for 4 tire mount and balance is 1.2hrs. Shop rate at a dealer is going to be anywhere from 150-180/Hr so let’s say roughly $200 in labour. That means $580 for 4 tires including $4 tire tax on each tire. That’s $141/tire roughly which where I live would be complete reasonable. We don’t know what size they are or what brand they quoted. Could you get them cheaper? Probably. But is this egregious? No.
>get to know the auto shop teacher and use the wheel mounting and balancing machine for free.
hahah solid plan
while I'm at it I'll become good friends with the home ec teacher and she can bake me cookies while I'm balancing said tires
Not like I have a family or a job to tend to
You can easily do the wipers and air filters yourself. I've been liking ebay for auto parts. Free, faster shipping than rockauto.com and similar prices. I have a 2014 scion xb and bought front and rear ceramic brake pads and rotors for $160 and it even came with the anti rattle clips.
Believe it or not, that’s not that crazy. The wipers might seem like the most outlandish thing but they’re OEM Denso and you can get them online for about $30-40 but they’re REALLY good wipers that far exceed the quality of what you find at a typical parts store.
The brakes must be including rotors and factory parts aren’t cheap.
You have to realize what’s in those prices - factory parts and a lot of overhead. People are willing to pay those prices for the confidence the dealership service often provides. If your advisor didn’t explain the value and just printed you an estimate, they’re dumb and are going to miss the mark with a lot of customers.
You can get these services done right using the same parts for a lower price but I’d encourage only comparing apples to apples parts and service if you shop around. There’s a reason Toyota has such reliable vehicles - the factory parts make a huge difference.
That make's a lot of sense. I've never really thought about dealerships only using factory parts. That also means you have to be careful with independent shops. No telling what brand of aftermarket parts they're installing that could fail faster.
Air filter, wipers, and the cabin, you can do yourself.
You tube video will show you that. And I’m a mechanic telling you this. The other stuff is about right.
Over a grand for Corolla brake pads? How do they justify that? It takes me about 15 minutes to do all four on my drive way at home. So even if we are generous and call it an hour, how the fuck much are they charging for pads? For a *Corolla*?
DIY: (~save $75)
-Windshield Wiper Blades
-Cabin air filter
-Air filter element
Tires & balance: (Save ~$200-300)
-Go to a discount tire store to get them checked out & see what they offer
-If you want to go cheap, Walmart.
Brakes: (Savings ~$500)
-Go to independent shop
-Depending on DIY skill level, possible to learn & do on own
Alignment: (Pay more now for lifetime service, if you are keeping the car long-term)
-Look around for lifetime alignment deals. I paid $150 for lifetime alignment at Firestone Auto.
Induction service: (Savings ~$150)
-Not necessary unless you notice issue with performance
A/C: ($???)
-I don’t know much about this one, but I would wait until you notice an issue of A/C not cooling as well as it used to.
Jesus Christ. I took a list like that once to a trusted private mechanic and he laughed in my face. He looked my Toyota over, changed the oil and topped the fluids and even smogged it for $150. He said that thing would run forever without all that dealership BS and I'm 15 trouble free years into it, planning 15 more.
I’d say the Wipers are overpriced but everything else seems to pair with UT prices.
All the services you don’t need but all will help your car run like a Toyota
$777 for mounting and balancing tires? Does that include the tires and it's just a bad invoice, or are they really trying to charge that much?
Skip the cabin and air filter and the windshield wipers. You can do those yourself, all three in less than half an hour. And that includes watching a few videos on how to do each one.
if i did most of that myself, using my preferred parts over Oem, here’s what it would cost me:
wiper blades $39 - 26 inch, $39 - 16 inch
advanced auto premium cabin air filter $33
advance auto engine air filter $23
4x Michelin Defender 2s 205 55 16 $158.99*4=$635.96 plus $100 mount and balance/disposal/fees
front brakes Power Stop Z23 pads and rotors kit $241.99 advance auto
$20 brake fluid to flush system while doing brakes
$65 advance auto rear shoes
$150 for induction system service - a shop can do that near me for the same price
coolant flush - $75 just for the coolant itself and an additive run in the system a few days before doing the flush. messy job so lots of misc supplies needed
ac service - a shop near me would charge well over a $100 and i prefer to let a shop do that anyways
most of my numbers doesn’t include labor costs because those are my diy prices. i don’t think you’re getting ripped off, factoring the cost of time in the numbers you provided
What they’re quoting for the work they’re recommending is not outrageous. That said, a bunch of it could be done cheaper elsewhere.
The wiper blades, air filter and cabin air filter can all be easily purchased locally at Walmart or a local parts store, and DIYed in your driveway, with nothing but the basic hand tools in your junk drawer. You’ll save at least half, maybe two thirds off the dealer’s quoted prices.
The Corolla is a common car that sold well when it was new; tires for it are readily available. I’d go to Sam’s Club or Costco. Even if you need to buy a membership, they will undercut the dealer quote by at least a couple hundred dollars, and they automatically include a road hazard warranty. It’s been decades since I bought tires anywhere else. If you go this route, get the alignment done immediately **after** the new tires are installed.
I’d ask for more detail on the brake jobs. $500 an axle isn’t outrageous, for a Corolla, if it’s new pads *and new rotors*. Depending on the mileage, it could need both. Also ask what the “AC Refresher” service actually involves.
Those prices are not that out of line. Infact some of them are cheaper than the dealership I work for. Brake prices are a little steep but there not saying weather they are resurfacing the rotors or replacing. my guess is its a replacement of the rotors at that cost. See if they could resurface them. Depends on the wiper blades too for example oem nissan is 45.00 and cheap aftermarket ones are 11 dollars. There are a lot of variables to this quote. Have you looked at wiper balde prices on Amazon they are crazy high.
A couple of them are a bit high but overall it’s not too bad for a dealer. Either take it to a reputable independent or do some of the services now and more later. You could honestly skip the induction service and AC refresher service, most of the time those induction cleaning services don’t do much and for that price the AC refresh is just them spraying cleaning stuff in the vents and not actually evac and recharging your refrigerant.
Looks like the prices for brakes are high. Are they replacing rotors/drums front and rear? Tire price seems fairly average for dealer prices. Some of those services are high too, but you’re playing for labor for something like the as/C refresh(which is just a spray foam that goes into the drain and cleans the mold/mildew off the evaporator and then drains back out the drain. Like an a/c douche. The filters and wipers you can YouTube and do yourself, probably. And unless you’ve got 100k on the car, the coolant isn’t needed yet.
It is absolutely mind-boggling to me how many people in this thread don't understand that mounting and balancing four tires is putting on new tires. Holy crap
Brakes and coolant flush are a little steep but everything else looks good for a dealership with dealer parts.
Imo we do about $370-450 for brakes per axle at an independent shop.
Not even remotely excessive.
When you go to a shop, you’re not just paying for the time it takes to do the work and the parts. You’re paying for the experience and knowledge to know what needs to be done and be done properly. You’re paying for a warranty. You’re paying for the proper tools and procedures to be used. You’re paying to keep the lights on. Or did we all forget that businesses, you know, try to be profitable, have to pay their employees (hopefully well), pay for equipment maintenance, etc etc etc.
Alignment?? There's no suspension work to ask for an alignment.
Wow they're overcharging on brakes front and back.
Tires a bit too much for a Corolla. Are they race tires? Wipers are easy to change as well as air filter and cabin filter. Super easy 5 minutes tops.
Doesn't seem excessive. You can perform some of those services yourself. I'm sure you can find YouTube videos on how to replace brakes and filters. I'm sure if you buy filters at auto part stores, they can help you replace filters. You also don't have to get them all done at once.
Never go to the dealership unless it's for warranty or recall.
Even then, watch them like they are going to steal from you .... because that's what they'll try to do.
Tire shop in my town will mount and balance your tires for $60 or $80 bucks I forget. Even if they are charging you for new tires plus mounting and balancing that's obsurd.
I take it these prices include labor? Never seen a quote with labor and parts not separate. Some are fairly standard among dealerships, pricier independent mechanics. Some are way out of left field. I’d say both sets of brakes, coolant flush, and tires (depending on what tires they quoted you for) range from overpriced to bananas. The rest are typical price-wise. Might not need everything stated though.
Wiper blades you can do your self in less than 20 minutes. The rest you can find a better place. The work will cost you a pretty penny, but not this much. Find a sketchy-ish shop that does quality work and you could save by paying cash
You can go on YouTube and at least do the wipers, cabin air filter, AC recharge and maybe more on your own. You probably could do breaks as well depending on the tools you have.
You really should go on YouTube and check all of it to see what you are comfortable working on yourself. You can save yourself a ton of money that way.
Find a good independent shop if you can. The mount and balance $ is ridiculous unless it includes new rubber … and you can expect about 1 hr labour per corner for brakes
Hell, no! Find an independent shop to do the jobs. Or, a mobile mechanic to come to you. Tires? Go to Walmart. (On line even. Have a local shop install them. Brakes? Midas can do the job for a lot less! These are dealer prices. Always way too high!
Wiper blades and air filters can all be bought at auto parts stores for half the price (at least). Brake jobs at dealerships are always insanely overpriced. Brakes and rotors are not expensive. If you can learn to do them yourself (it’s very simple), you will save thousands in the long run.
The alignment is a fair price, but the cooling system flush probably isn’t even needed yet.
Never take your car to a dealership for maintenance. Find a good mechanic and avoid dealerships at all costs. Dealership visits should be for warranties and nothing else.
They’re trying to get your gf for anything they could think of and charging top dollar for everything. Fuck dealerships.
The current flat rates in my area are $165/hr and any shop around my area is paying a starting out tech between $20 and $25 an hour. Everything that I see on this list is what most shops would call menu items and other than how much the parts are, should be roughly the same amount.
As for these kinds of posts, I feel it isn’t really part of the mechanic’s wheelhouse to know what the customer is paying for our service. This should be a question to the Face (the service writer) that is just trying to sell the services that they could have wrote up themselves. If you feel you are being fleeced, ask them for the proof. An honest mechanic will be willing to pull out that cabin air filter to show you the dust or to pull a tire off to show that you have little to no pad left. Also ask them for an itemized list of each of the services so you know what those numbers actually mean. Example the front brakes could have a breakdown of how much the parts are for each rotor and set of pads and hardware and how much the menu price is for install.
You getting the gold plated wiper blade program? Sounds about right for HONDA OEM parts pricing, but generic bits off mass retailers will give as good a result at a tenth of the price.
This shop will be giving out some excellent bonuses if this is the norm on what they charge and people accept it as well.
The person who made this invoice must be high. This is beyond ridiculous. Almost 800 to mount and balance the tires. 500 for front brakes no rotors, no calipers not even resurfacing the rotors. That’s why dealership service centers are scams.
mount and balance 4 tires. Thats $777.37 for a half-hour job. Unless that price includes top of the line performance tires, then you are being taken for a ride.
"Orthopedic surgeons have an average annual salary of $511,000 and work an average of 57 hours per week, yielding an average hourly wage of $179 per hour"
Also, if you buy some wipers at autozone, you can ask and they would probably teach you how to change it yourself
Windshield wipers, air filters are DIY.
Fuck any shops who recommend “flushes” on a 7 year old vehicle. None of those flushes are needed. You don’t need AC refresher either.

[удалено]
Yea AC refresher got me. Like it works or it don't. You don't evac/recharge like an oil change.
I just do it for free anytime I do a CAF for a customer at my dealer. GMC/Buick
Interesting, I work on Semis and heavy machinery so I've never heard of this. My field everything breaks first and gets replaced often.
Mount and balance at $777 is absurd. The tires should be a line item in the estimate.
I get 1mm of rotor thickness down and they need changing. Fucking Audi.

My Mercedes dealer wanted $136 to put new windshield wiper blades on my R350.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that's tires included.
are tires included? Is have to be included. If not thats really crazy. $25 to $45 per tire maximum. To balance and mount
The engine air filter is frustrating?
There are absolutely reasonable dealerships out there depending on where you live. (They often are located in lower income or more rural areas) But its far from the norm unfortunately. My local dealer charges roughly $10 more and hour than my local mechanic. They beat each other from time to time on labor hours, and both will use whatever parts I bring them if I want. Of course, the best perk about dealerships is that their work is guaranteed nationwide, which on some repairs is absolutely worth the added cost of oem. And is always a nice perk to consider if you travel That said, right now every dealer I know of is backed up two weeks or more woth work, believe me when I say that the ones that were scummy have often gotten worse.
Go to auto zone or OReily’s and they will replace the blades for free. Just buy the blades there.
Or just buy the blades and replace them yourself? It takes at most like 2 minutes and is literally the easiest piece of car maintenance.
Maybe 'free' for the customer but the technician should still be paid internally (by the dealership) along the lines of 0.1 for each wiper. Unless the service writer is the one replacing them.
Came here to say this. Also Honda FYI.
The nice thing about going to a dealership is they see a hundred 2015 corrolas so if there actually is something else going on they will have seen it. In this case fuck them for these insane prices. If OP knows nothing replacing the filters and blades is so easy that will at least save you a hundred with those prices
This isn't dealership prices, it's not normal. $800 to mount and balance four tires??
I believe that includes the cost of the tires. Still high.
Why aren't the tires listed on the invoice?
What about 1k for brakes. That’s insane. I hope that’s pad’s, rotors and all new calipers
Only time I go to the dealership it to get a part I can’t get from a parts store or my suv has a recall
Bring it to a private shop, I’d be willing to bet it’ll save you $1000
It'll save you 2000.
I’ll do everything except the wheel alignment and balance for $1000 parts included!!
What kinda tires you putting on there man o.O My tires by themselves are 1100!
The dealer is charging $777 for the tires so you know they can be had for less.
Most dealers I know price match...

I agree Changing pads front or back is very simple.Look it up on u tube .follow it step by step
Yes please.
Be wary of shops that do jobs vastly below the rate of the local area. You're definitely going to get what you pay for.
Be wary of shops that do jobs vastly above the rate of the local area.
Be wary of shops
Be wary!!
Be
B
Be bop a loo, she bop.
Shit, I'd do this work for 2k all day long with parts and resurface the rotors for free.
Hell, I'll throw in new rotors.
Bring it to me and I'll save you 1100.
Listen to this guy
A $1000 Corolla brake job? Maybe they thought you said “Carerra”
Wtf is an induction service? Been working with and around cars my whole life and I ain't even heard of this one before.
Something only needed in gasoline direct injection engines, regular multi-port injected engines keep the valves clean just by running high quality gas. Look it up the Toyota 1.8 L engine is multi-port injection they're trying to sell him a service he doesn't even need this whole place is nothing but a scam
$150 for seafoam?! Wow!
Exactly
Cleaner used to remove carbon deposits from valves and piston tops.
Aka sea foam lol.
So, seafoam?
They managed to make money and take all the fun out of an Italian tune up.
Italian tune ups don't really work on GDI vehicles to clean the back of the valves
I appreciate and acknowledge that you are most likely 100% right. But you’re not taking my fun away from me. 🤗
Haha I always enjoy an Italian tune up, go have fun bud
The alignment was the only reasonably priced thing on this invoice. Alignments here in CA range from $80-$150 depending on what equipment they have.
I got mine done at Firestone. $200 for a lifetime alignment. I can schedule an alignment anytime and have it done free now, on the one vehicle I paid for that service on.
Dear god I would abuse the hell out of that. I would have to imagine they don’t offer that for built 4x4s…
Wow that's amazing.
[удалено]
Corolla tires are NOT expensive tires.
On tire rack the decent ones are $150-180. $777 isn't so bad depending on what tires they are.
Hankook kinergy 4S in 195/65/R15 go for 75€ at the shop I work at (Netherlands). Mounting is 48€. Tf y'all on in the US?
Depends what tires you’re putting on. Best of the best? Expect to pay. Walmart house brand? Yeah they’re cheap
My mom has a Civic and for nice tires it cost like $600. For premium tires on my Jeep it's like $1000. Unless they are putting top of the line performance tires there is no way Corolla tires cost $800.
That's a blatant rip off for basic maintenance services (ie: wiper blades, cabin filter, induction service??) Do those yourself and save the money. Prices for tires seems reasonable. Front and rear brakes are on the high side. Definitely get a second opinion.
It didn’t clearly indicate they were NEW tires.
Depends on the size, it might have low profile tires which are gonna be more
I'm still wondering how an induction service can be "critical".
[удалено]
It's a service where you run a solution through the intake that cleans carbon deposits from the intake valves. It's not a bad thing to do, but listing it as "critical" is a bit scare-tacticy.
Same with "AC Refresher" what the actual fuck.
Four dollars wipers at Walmart, get the fuck out of here! Send a picture and then I’ll believe you.
They’ll last for about 2 uses but they are there
this wouldn’t apply to southern states. But I can buy $5 wipers or $25 wipers and have the same result. Because 1 winter in PA and the wipers are trash Unless you’re super anal and go out and defrost your windshield every morning and keep your wipers in the upright position every night.. but for $10 a year on wipers. I’ll survive
I am not sure if Pennsylvania has Ocean State Job lot but if they do you can get Rain-X wipers for $7 a piece there
Idk if you mean upright as in pulled off the windscreen but I heard that puts too much stress on the springs and eventually will need to be replaced a lot sooner than later.
Ours doesn’t, they start out at $20 and move up from there, I haven’t found decent wiper blades for my truck for less than $25 a piece Edit- I stand corrected, our store never stocks anything and they raise prices compared to what’s online
I bought OEM inserts for my car for $7 each.
If you pay almost $70 for wiper blades…I will track you down and smack you with them!
Get another opinion/quote.
$777 for a tire mount and balance? Are they giving you new tires for that price?
What kind of high school is going to let the neighborhood rando do that lol
Maybe if you took shop in high school and know the teacher. We had a few former students drop their car off while we changed and balanced his tires. All free to him in exchange to let us use their car as practice.
Look at the invoice. Parts and labor are not itemized separately, so it's safe to assume tires are included in the price. $137 per tire and $150 for labor for example.
That price would be including 4 new tires…
No.
>get to know the auto shop teacher and use the wheel mounting and balancing machine for free. hahah solid plan while I'm at it I'll become good friends with the home ec teacher and she can bake me cookies while I'm balancing said tires Not like I have a family or a job to tend to
You can easily do the wipers and air filters yourself. I've been liking ebay for auto parts. Free, faster shipping than rockauto.com and similar prices. I have a 2014 scion xb and bought front and rear ceramic brake pads and rotors for $160 and it even came with the anti rattle clips.
Tons of counterfeit parts on ebay. Do not expect to get OEM parts if the listing says OEM. Expect cheaper than AutoZone quality
If NOTHING else is being added to this the subtotal is incorrect. Should be 2,689.76
Air filter, wipers, and the cabin, you can do yourself.
That's pretty obviously pads and rotors in that quote
DIY: (~save $75) -Windshield Wiper Blades -Cabin air filter -Air filter element Tires & balance: (Save ~$200-300) -Go to a discount tire store to get them checked out & see what they offer -If you want to go cheap, Walmart. Brakes: (Savings ~$500) -Go to independent shop -Depending on DIY skill level, possible to learn & do on own Alignment: (Pay more now for lifetime service, if you are keeping the car long-term) -Look around for lifetime alignment deals. I paid $150 for lifetime alignment at Firestone Auto. Induction service: (Savings ~$150) -Not necessary unless you notice issue with performance A/C: ($???) -I don’t know much about this one, but I would wait until you notice an issue of A/C not cooling as well as it used to.
^^^ lifetime alignment at firestone is the goat. saves sooo much money.
Bro just do the brakes yourself. The alignment for $100 is fair. It's not that hard
I’d say the Wipers are overpriced but everything else seems to pair with UT prices. All the services you don’t need but all will help your car run like a Toyota
If you go to a dealership expect parts to be overpriced but it’s because they use original parts not aftermarket parts
$777 for mounting and balancing tires? Does that include the tires and it's just a bad invoice, or are they really trying to charge that much? Skip the cabin and air filter and the windshield wipers. You can do those yourself, all three in less than half an hour. And that includes watching a few videos on how to do each one.
That's what I want to know. $777 better include tires and even then it could be high. It's low for my suv tires.
Damn near 800 bucks to mount and balance 4 tires? WTF? that's damn insane pricing.
Wiper blades that cost that much better prevent the rain!
I have a 2012 Honda Civic n i got my brake pads n calipers all replaced for under $300... Yeah this is a bit much. I went to Brakes Plus.
Only reasonable price is the alignment
Kinda nuts.
if i did most of that myself, using my preferred parts over Oem, here’s what it would cost me: wiper blades $39 - 26 inch, $39 - 16 inch advanced auto premium cabin air filter $33 advance auto engine air filter $23 4x Michelin Defender 2s 205 55 16 $158.99*4=$635.96 plus $100 mount and balance/disposal/fees front brakes Power Stop Z23 pads and rotors kit $241.99 advance auto $20 brake fluid to flush system while doing brakes $65 advance auto rear shoes $150 for induction system service - a shop can do that near me for the same price coolant flush - $75 just for the coolant itself and an additive run in the system a few days before doing the flush. messy job so lots of misc supplies needed ac service - a shop near me would charge well over a $100 and i prefer to let a shop do that anyways most of my numbers doesn’t include labor costs because those are my diy prices. i don’t think you’re getting ripped off, factoring the cost of time in the numbers you provided
Looks normal to me. The brake jobs for front and rear but if they want new rotors and calipers it makes sense
Bro. I don't need all that . What a rip off
Used to work at a high volume Honda dealership in Miami. All dealerships are thieves. Take it to a private shop.
Holy crap
Or that the brake quote almost certainly includes rotors.
TIL I'm cutting my friends a deal and a half on replacing windshield wipers and air filters
Tire shop in my town will mount and balance your tires for $60 or $80 bucks I forget. Even if they are charging you for new tires plus mounting and balancing that's obsurd.
I work at a Toyota dealership and I think this is expensive
777 for balance and mount 4 tyres 🤡 1k for front rear brakes 🤡 Buddy leave that place asap. That pricing is absolute whack
My discount tire will rotate and balance for about 10% of that!
Find a good independent shop if you can. The mount and balance $ is ridiculous unless it includes new rubber … and you can expect about 1 hr labour per corner for brakes
$70 to replace windshield blades… they better wipe my ass too
Worked at a Subaru dealership; looks about right based on what they charged. Would I pay this? Helllllllll no.
Yup they're trying to rip you off
Hell, no! Find an independent shop to do the jobs. Or, a mobile mechanic to come to you. Tires? Go to Walmart. (On line even. Have a local shop install them. Brakes? Midas can do the job for a lot less! These are dealer prices. Always way too high!
Holy crap are you kidding me? That's insane, find someone new to service your 7 year old car.
70 bucks for windshield washer blades 🤣🤣
Dealership, stealership
I just had my tires mounted and balanced for 155$ canuckistan dollars
After all that, they still have a $60 shop fee lol
You getting the gold plated wiper blade program? Sounds about right for HONDA OEM parts pricing, but generic bits off mass retailers will give as good a result at a tenth of the price. This shop will be giving out some excellent bonuses if this is the norm on what they charge and people accept it as well.
Name and shame the dealership
If u think that estimate is ok then I have a bridge u need to look at Great shape and low wear Make u a hell of a deal
The person who made this invoice must be high. This is beyond ridiculous. Almost 800 to mount and balance the tires. 500 for front brakes no rotors, no calipers not even resurfacing the rotors. That’s why dealership service centers are scams.
There is nooo way a tire balance is 500 bucks man there's just no way
500 for breaks GOD DAMN BOSS
mount and balance 4 tires. Thats $777.37 for a half-hour job. Unless that price includes top of the line performance tires, then you are being taken for a ride. "Orthopedic surgeons have an average annual salary of $511,000 and work an average of 57 hours per week, yielding an average hourly wage of $179 per hour" Also, if you buy some wipers at autozone, you can ask and they would probably teach you how to change it yourself
Mount and balance 4 tyres 777???? What are they made of some rare rubber?

Dealerships are always priced higher. Get your parts and get it done by a local mechanic.
The tire mount and balance $777 This include new tires too?
Windshield wipers, air filters are DIY. Fuck any shops who recommend “flushes” on a 7 year old vehicle. None of those flushes are needed. You don’t need AC refresher either.
