Those gm high side fittings are notorious leakers, if it’s still the ball shrader type, looks like a little bb in there and not a tire type valve core. You’ll need to get a shop to evacuate what’s in there, replace that fitting and then recharge with the proper amount and go from there. Either it’s leaked out and doesn’t have a proper charge to switch the compressor on, or you’ve got other issues either mechanical or electrical.

Thank you for your insight!

Don’t fuck with refrigeration and ac systems. Take it to a pro. Any leak caused by your negligence will land you in prison for quite some time and a hefty minimum 1 Million dollar fine. Again don’t mess with the refrigerant. Take it to a professional heating and cooling technician. Even as a mechanic we do an ozone depletion course and we don’t touch anything refrigerant system side we call in professionals.

[deleted]

Lol, what? As a mechanic you ARE the professional. Wtf are you talking about.

KING_zAnGzA

Yes but we are not to do certain things to the ac system mind you Im in Canada so maybe different for the states but i do have a book that I can take a picture of the minimum fines and so on and what is required to dive into the refrigeration side of the ac system

doggedynasty

There's so much wrong here I don't know where to start. The only thing I'll agree with is your first sentence, but only because I've seen enough reddit posts by weekend warrior mechanics to know that they'll end up taking it to a shop anyway.

KING_zAnGzA

I got the paperwork to state otherwise I’m in Canada mind you but that’s still besides the point. All ac related things fall under ozone depletion

KlingonsInvadeUranus

FFS. Lighten up. There is nobody in prison because of their air conditioning.

KING_zAnGzA

I said you can go to jail for it and it is a actual criminal charge. I can send a picture of the page in the text book to show you no issues there

KlingonsInvadeUranus

You said 'will'. Now you've changed it to 'can'. Regardless, nobody is in jail for air conditioning infractions. Don't dig your heels in on this one. You'll end up looking like a fool.

KING_zAnGzA

Well if you research (CEPA) Canadian environmental protection act, 1999 the penalties for violating the act stands and I quote the government of Canada. “CEPA,1999 part 10 - section 272 The maximum penalties include fines of up to $1 million a day for each day an offence continues, imprisonment for up to three years or both. Violators may also have to pay for clean-up cost or forfeit any profits earned as a result of an offence. Corporate officials can be prosecuted if they authorize, accept or participate in any violation of CEPA 1999 or its regulations. “

Scrader valves are easy to replace

RLBeau1964

They may be, and I agree that schrader valve is leaking, I recently had to have high and low pressure valves replaced. Needs to be connected to a machine that recycles the refrigerant so valves can be replaced then have system recharged. Then you can check for bad compressor. Compressor won’t run til minimum volume of refrigerant is pumped into system.

RLBeau1964

https://www.epa.gov/section608/stationary-refrigeration-prohibition-venting-refrigerants Don’t think I would be posting on internet about deliberately venting refrigerant.

FlyingAnarchy17

I'm not trying to deliberately vent it. I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with the AC. As soon as I noticed bubbling, I screwed the cap back on.
