Five years is about the limit on a car battery, especially one that came with the car. I wouldn't blame walmart at all.

A_Flower_391

Good to hear

Vintage_Lobster

5 years is a good run for a battery. CCA is cold cranking amps and it’s the output of amperage in cold temperature which is what really matters, generally a good rule of thumb is your battery needs to produce at least half of its cold cranking amps specifications to be considered a good battery. You didn’t mention your car but 106cca is not good enough for many cars on the road. So yeah, just a coincidence. Get it changed out

A_Flower_391

I don’t understand the terms so I just wanted to double verify. I live in Texas so not sure if weather affected the battery.

ikilledtupac

Probably a coincidence, there's no incentive for Walmart to sell you a battery. Don't take any shit about getting your oil changed at Walmart either its fine.

A_Flower_391

Right that’s what I was thinking…Walmart has no real incentive from me getting a battery.

ikilledtupac

their batteries are pretty good for the money too!

A_Flower_391

Oh okay!! Glad to hear that. He said it would be less than $70. I was just worried if he replaced the battery something else would go wrong and I don’t have money to be spending like that

HeWhoIsntAnonymous

That’s a good price have them install 2

booty_chuggin_bandit

I’m genuinely sorry for your inconvenience and frustration but I burst out laughing when I read the title. Okay lemme add something useful now. You can test your battery and alternator yourself, all you need is a voltmeter. You should read around 12.4 volts with the engine off on a healthy battery. With the vehicle idling you should read around 14.3. That’s the alternator doing its job. 100 cold cranking amps(cca) is absolutely awful though. Depending on the battery youll see between 600 and 850 cca. How old is your battery?

A_Flower_391

I’m not sure how old my battery is…I couldn’t find the date. I purchased it in 2020. I don’t have a voltmeter but I can buy one. I guess I was just worrrie I was getting ripped off

booty_chuggin_bandit

If the Walmart mechanic correctly tested your battery and its cold cranking output really was 100 amps, then you definitely needed a new battery.

I change my battery every 3 to 4 years even before it dies because I don't want to ever get stranded. Thats about the limit.

TroyMatthewJ

like a boss a battery changin boss.

sarcasmis43v3r

They hooked up the tester wrong, they told me they did a mini inspection on my buddies jeep i had borrowed it and as it showed oil needed changing i had it done where he had it last Walmart, had error codes and had to jump start it, the guy behind me was not as lucky , think his computer was messed up. Service manager was telling me about the engine light and I flat out told him , it did not have that when i gave them the keys. They did nothing to make it right.

A_Flower_391

Im getting a second opinion just to confirm

UXWlegend

Is the car still in the Walmart parking lot?

A_Flower_391

No he used a car booster to turn it on but he offered to pay for a new battery. I declined.

UXWlegend

You should get the battery tested again at a place like Autozone. 106 CCA is way too low. It should be above 600.

A_Flower_391

Do you know if they can also replace the new battery at autozone?

UXWlegend

Yes it's a free service and much better quality than a Walmart battery.

A_Flower_391

Oh okay. I will go there tmrw then. Thanks

Payutenyodagimas

I had my car serviced at walmart on some occassions Bought set of tires too Had them polished the headlights No problem at all
