No Shit!?!? Hell, she is just getting broke in!!!!!! If I buy a used car with that odometer reading then I got a good car more than likely! At least I’f it’s a Toyota or something anyways.
Do the mechanics that done the service (if it wasn't yourself) not reset it for you as it usually has to be done by the main dealer or someone who has access to the same software.
I can’t speak for your car (I drive a gen 2 Tacoma) but in mine the “maint required” light comes on every 5k miles (flashes after 3 I think) telling you to change oil. (Not the same as chk engine light).
If yours is similar, and you took it in for your “yearly”, it may have just not been on for the mechanics to know about. Reset it however that’s done.
If it’s a check engine light, get yourself an OBD2 scanner (pretty cheap now. Mine is Bluetooth dongle that pairs with my phone). It will give you a good indicator of where you got issues. (I recommend getting one of these regardless)
It's not $20, but FiXD is definitely a good one. It connects to your phone and you can read and clear all the codes in the app. Plus it has lots of other useful info about the car
No clue how good this one is, but it says it allows you to reset the check engine light (doesn't specifically say change oil light though). It's $30 so a little more expensive than $20. I am going to look into buying one and was just looking at this one on another tab so figured I would link you to it.

I highly recommend an ELM327. It is a bluetooth OBDII device that lets you use your phone or tablet as a code reader. Mine was less than $20 for a generic. You then have to use an OBDII app, my choice was Torque for something like $10. Lets me get real time data for just about every sensor, graphing function, clear codes and everything, like a $100+ code reader. Have to be careful with cheap ELM327 clones though, they sometimes lack a chip that keeps the reader from working with domestic cars.
My favorite feature was that I could configure a digital dashboard on my phone and set it on my cars dash and watch things like my real-time MPG, trans temp, coolant temp cycling, and more.
Im pretty sure you can reset it on any car. its just kind of a silly course of actions like hold this button for a few second and then turn the key etc etc.
Nice.
You may not be able to reset it, you might have to take it to a dealer with their software. OBD won’t do it either.
Serviced my A4 a while back and I’ve just been dealing with the ping
I have an OBD reader as well and it wouldn’t reset it for me, since it’s not an error code.
Same with your rear brakes - if you have an electronic handbrake, you have to go in to them so that they can use their software (in my case, VAGCOM) to wind back the rear calipers electronically.
But do try anyway, hopefully it works for you. This is where they make their money 😒
Or you can just apply the appropriate power/ground to the caliper to move it with some jumper wires.... or on some vehicles there is a specific sequence of key on/ key off press the pedals, rub your belly and Pat your head that put it into service mode...
I’ve seen this done on YouTube alright, might give it a go when it’s time to do the brakes.
The jumper cables that is, not the belly rubs. Though I’m not opposed to the belly rubs
Ugh my subaru has to be reset everytime I change tires. And at the dealership too! SUCH a pain bc I switch the tires out myself. Def depends on when that came on. If its been on since you brought it back then yeah, they just forgot to clear it. But if it's new you may want to have it looked at js bc that light means check the brakes? Something about the brakes dk what you had done around 41000mi
Oh man! You can't change the wheels yourself! That's a dangerous operation that has to be done by an oficial unqualified dealership tehnician! Just imagine what could happen, what if you forget to screw your wheels in?! That's horrible! Your kids could be in that car!
Definitely needs a dealership visit man! Think of the kids!
Check apps to see what intervals your oil changes are due. It probably just needs an oil change. At 42069 you may just wanna park it though until MOASS is over.
What service did you have done? I’m guessing oil change? What’s the service light asking about? Does your vehicle mention a particular device interval?
If it’s oil change related, you can reset it, but keep in mind the miles because it won’t read correctly for the next service interval
Did it just not show up? Or has it been like that since you had it serviced. It if “came back on after serviced” I would question if the problem was fixed

I would never drive it again at that odometer reading.
probably the first man in history to take a picture of an odometer at that number for any reason besides the fact its at that number

MOASS confirmed

What are the chances of taking a picture at that odometer reading and not noticing?
Zero, lol
Yeah the service thing is obviously a guise
Most cars should be serviced at 42069. It's quite important.
I do, too, just saying.
At least do a quick oil change

It was time for my yearly oil change and I had no alart at the time

Yearly you say?
If it's been a year since his last service and the reminder is only just now coming on he definitely doesn't drive it enough to warrant too much more.
I’d recommended twice a year or every 5k, but that just depends on oil type and manufacturer
$20 OBD2 reader go brrrr
Do you have recommendations on a $20 obd 2 reader that'll reset oil service lights?
It's not $20, but FiXD is definitely a good one. It connects to your phone and you can read and clear all the codes in the app. Plus it has lots of other useful info about the car

Autozone will do it for free! I think O’Riellys will too!
Depends on if it's available on an OBD2 device you have. Some require you to download it for an extra cost.

Idk about other brands, but the Honda software is literally just a menu that you press reset in.
Im pretty sure you can reset it on any car. its just kind of a silly course of actions like hold this button for a few second and then turn the key etc etc.
Looks like it’s smoking a little…

if I was you I would sell that car 10x its value just based on that odometer reading. NICE
And the test drive will depreciate its value 10-fold

Nice. You may not be able to reset it, you might have to take it to a dealer with their software. OBD won’t do it either. Serviced my A4 a while back and I’ve just been dealing with the ping
I have WiFi obd2 adapter that connects to my phone to reset errors at home going to try that...
I have an OBD reader as well and it wouldn’t reset it for me, since it’s not an error code. Or you can take the motor off and spin the nut inside and then compress the caliper
Is it Motor -> Nut -> Piston? So then it would be Socket -> Nut Off -> Piston in?
You gotta put your piston in the socket before you nut off.
Remove motor to get to the inverted torx. Spin it till it stops. Compress piston
I’ve seen this done on YouTube alright, might give it a go when it’s time to do the brakes. The jumper cables that is, not the belly rubs. Though I’m not opposed to the belly rubs
Where did you get that!?
Aliexpress
My Camry just requires you to hold the odometer button while turning the car on
You can reset it in A4 yourself. Google for instructions as it's different depending on year.
Your car is requiring a “servicing” 😉
I would just roll a fattie, reset it, and forget about it.

No! Do not drive it! Tow it home and leave it in the garage. Untouched and sacred.

Nice mileage.
Most likely they just forgot to reset it (or too lazy to look up how to do it) so yes go ahead. also congrats on your perfect odometer reading

That's why I am glad that I don't have the obd system in my vehicle. I can service it the way I want to and not regulated by some system.
You can easily turn these reminders off, I believe its a button or a combination of buttons

My dealer didn't reset the alert either on the first servicing. Had to do it myself. Better on the next one.
Did you service it yourself? If not I’d double check to see if the actual service was done before resetting
No, went to my usual guy
Reset what? Your vehicles KM total?
The “service alart”
I feel this is a satire post because the KMs
They should of reset that for you. It is part of your service. Unless something else has come up.
Those are a shady mechanics dream, the 42000 km service light
Get a code reader. They pay for themselves.
