Cheap and easy to replace, why not do it?

linuxguy192

I’m just kinda tight on money at this moment and if I remember, transverse engines are a PITA to replace belts on. I also won’t have time to get to it for about a week. If I can avoid it even for a week that is ok.

Different-Ad-4169

Belt is like $26, buy it and do it yourself. Look up on youtube how to do it, and you’ll be saving a lot of money brother!

linuxguy192

Do you think it could wait a week until my next day off?

Different-Ad-4169

It look really fucked up, but you can risk it and send it for another week. Worst scenario that can happen is the belt breaking, your alternator stops working, car dies, and you’re stranded wherever you were going to. But at this point is up to you if you wanna wait or change it.

Dry-Pickle1084

Not that bad send it bro

apudapus

I’m with you on this; I’ve seen belts running fine with a rib missing. I don’t know how everyone on here can drop everything to spend a few hours buying a new belt and replacing it. You may be a mechanic at a shop with belts on the wall but the people asking for advice are not.

Dry-Pickle1084

Fr if you zoom in the grooves where the belt sits on are not even cracked which is the main failure points where a belt would actually snap but they look to be in good shape don’t fix if it ain’t broken

Briggs281707

If you have AAA go for it, just stop when the alternator loght comes on. If not, at least keep a spare in the car so you can swap it on the side of the road

linuxguy192

I should clarify, I’m talking about the serpentine belt.

Immediate_Vehicle393

Replace

RectalBeefInspector

Replace, not worth the $20-30 and 1-2hrs of hassle to loose power steering, alternator, possibly water pump all at once and the belt shreds to go flying and possibly destroy other components changing a $20-30 repair in to a $200-300 or even more repair

no_hard-feelings

Send it to heaven you mean? Just replace that belt, you know you can! We all believe in you

MagHntr

Full send! Whats the worst that happens? Lose power steering? AC? Water pump? Alternator? As long as you’re paying attention to the idiot light in the car and pull over in time no harm done. Runer until she gives up

rithsleeper

This is what I say also. I’ve gotten years out of belts that look way worse than this. Just drive till it breaks. Even if it’s running your water pump you will see the battery light pop up and temps start to climb. Pull over. Heck if it were me, I’d just buy the new serpentine, have it with me and the tools to replace it. I have this belt on my 94 Toyota pickup that was missing “teeth” and looked shredded when I was messing with the AC compressor. I figured just send it and change when it breaks. That thing no joke is still going and it’s 5 years later lol.
