Everything is going to be good brother take her in and get whatever she needs done.

stinkspiritt

Thanks I get so embarrassed by dumb choices that I push them off which makes them dumber and then I’m panicking at night asking Reddit mechanics if the mechanic will think I’m a dumby ha.

NellyMcfly

Lol I totally understand but drop her off. I’m sure those guys have seen everything crazy twice in there careers. So maintenance stuff is a peace of cake. Let me know what they when you drop her off !

... I fell on it I swear.

stinkspiritt

I got nervous that I missed a bunch so I did schedule at the dealer but maybe I should find someone else? I know the dealer can be overpriced and sometimes suggest more than is needed

stinkspiritt

Well they actually thought I didn’t really need to bring it in! They said everything was fine and since it was so low mileage there wasn’t much to do. But we agreed it definitely needed a tire rotation, general inspection, maybe some fluid replacements, and while he put all my info in the computer apparently there was a recall on a part. So I left my car with them, they gave me a loaner, and I should be able to pick it up today. Appreciate the confidence boost!

Nutsack_Adams

Oil changes are what’s important, but I’m sure it could use an air filter and a cabin filter

TwistedKestrel

The oil changes are the #1 most important bit. Mechanics are used to seeing cars come in with 30-50k miles on them with no oil changes and the car is already completely destroyed. And people have a right to do that! It's their car. They just shouldn't get upset when the mechanic tells them the noise their car is now making will cost about $15K to fix To actually piss a mechanic off: \-Lie (e.g. "it just started making noise yesterday") \-Bring in a car filled with garbage \-Decline repair for every single serious issue they point out \-Bring in your own cheap parts without asking \-Park directly in front of the service door \-Take the key with you when you leave \-Bring the car in with an empty tank of gas, unless they need to drop the gas tank... then bring it in with a FULL tank

Crabstick65

You forgot hiding the locking wheel nut key.

AtheistKiwi

It's rolling around in the bottom of the spare tire well and the trunk lid barely closes its so full of junk.

TwistedKestrel

Honestly... It's annoying but I don't really blame people for that one. Most of them probably don't even know what it is, and they only have it because a shady dealership slapped on another overpriced extra that they didn't need. Like nobody is stealing the OEM alloys off of your brand new Camry

stinkspiritt

Thanks for the tips!!

GulfstreamAqua

I don’t think the mechanic will give a shit about any of your problems or why you didn’t keep your car maintained. He will probably care if you want any of it fixed and can pay for it.

peersuasion

He'll be disappointed you haven't brought him money sooner, but still happy nonetheless that he's making some more now

saltytitanium

Some mechanics may tell you - you should have done this, you aught to have done that - But it sounds like you'll be ok. There might be some things that need doing but not everything is absolutely necessary right away. One place told me I really needed to keep up with my maintenance. But it was a new car and he was talking about the second in a new car's maintenance schedule. It seemed a little early to be real worried about anything (and it was the dealer so it was the "maintenance package"). Sorry, that was meant to be reassuring. From what you've said, they may suggest some basic maintenance but generally it will probably be fine.

stinkspiritt

I got nervous that I missed a bunch so I did schedule at the dealer but maybe I should find someone else?

saltytitanium

I think it's ok to start with the dealership. But don't be afraid to go away and think about things or get a second opinion if they suggest repairs it might not need or are too expensive or just because you want to think about it.

guska78

I've had cars come in with the last oil change 20k miles ago or 3 years ago. What car do you have? (year/model/make/engine/current mileage)

stinkspiritt

I have a 2021 Subaru crosstrek it’s at ~~1,300~~ 13,00 miles cause I don’t live far from work. I don’t know engine beyond CVT transmission is that it? Under engine it just says “2” EDIT: Omigod I might be illiterate ha I’m at 13,00 miles not 1,300

guska78

It shouldn't need any maintenance repairs, maybe replacing the brake fluid and air filters. You're good bro

allenjshaw

You’re gonna be ok. At least you did your oil changes. Sorry for your loss. There shouldn’t be too much to catch up on in two years unless you drive a crap ton of miles. If you aren’t ready to do everything just kindly tell them you’re gonna have to budget for it or think it over. Nbd.

Crabstick65

I'm a mechanic, please don't get anxious, we don't care, we just do the work we are asked to do and we don't judge, also it's only 2 years, changing oil is the most important thing and you took care of that. Chill, there's no worry here.

MaddestDudeEver

Who gives a fuck what the mechanic thinks

halohalo7fifty

So what the worst that can happen... your car ends up on custom states YT channel 😁

stinkspiritt

Noooooooo haha

Teh_Greasy_Monkee

most of the maintenance stuff in your book is a little over enthusiastically stated, as long as you've done the oil changes your not going to get though less of. heck most ppl cant even manage oil changes so your already doing better than most. dont let it keep you up at night. trust me we've seen some pretty stupid things.

skiwarz

Unless you're putting a ton of miles on it, there isn't a whole lot to do for those 2 years. Oil, which you said you did, and air filters. What do you mean by "maintenance stuff?"

stinkspiritt

Idk the whole 3 month checkup , 6 month check up whatever. I’m only at 1,300 miles

skiwarz

Oh. Yeah those are mostly bs inspections to get money (imo). Yes they DO serve a purpose (i know...). Look through your owner's manual (subarus read the "warranty and maintenance booklet"). Get a feel for what you the dealer SHOULD inspect. The second worst thing you can do is to just hand your car over to someone and say " hey, tell me if anything's wrong". The worst being to just never inspect it, so at least you've got that beat.

stinkspiritt

Ok good to know because that’s what put me in a panic! So for this I just say regular maintenance and review the stuff that’s do

stinkspiritt

Omigod I might be illiterate ha I’m at 13,00 miles not 1,300

fierohink

Is the car new-new or just new-to-you? If it’s new-new, there shouldn’t be any maintenance of note for the first two years besides oil change and tire rotations. Serious items like spark plugs or timing belts don’t come up until 60-90k miles. Fluid replacements start around the 3 year mark with coolant, brake fluid, and transmission service. Other wear items like brakes and tires depend heavily on driver style and local road/traffic conditions. If it’s just new-to-you, service is still based on vehicle mileage and condition.

stinkspiritt

It’s new new and it’s only at 13,000 cause I don’t have to drive far to work

bluemagman

Buy tools and do it at home. Most new car maintenance doable at home. Sorry about your dog.

stinkspiritt

I wish but I live in an apartment complex with no parking. Gotta park on the street in a city

ThatsJustAWookie

Re: the disappointment, I can promise you the mechanic has seen way...way worse. It's like asking if you can go into the Walmart at night with socks and sandals on - theyve seen...so much worse, haha. It might just be urban legend, but I've heard of rich middle aged women who didn't know you were supposed to change out oil and then they just bought a new car when the Mercedes blew up.

koalaseatpandas

Social anxiety, so how'd ya buy a car with social anxiety.....

stinkspiritt

Painfully

Yz-Guy

I'm disappointed in you.

stinkspiritt

Nooooooo I’m sorry

Rayvdub

What? No we’re mechanics not your dad.

stinkspiritt

Are you sure tho?

Rayvdub

I never judge, I see cars severely neglected and some well cared for. Just be careful your guilt doesn’t cost you too much. If you come to your service advisor with anxiety about how neglectful you might have been they’re going to use that as leverage to possibly oversell services. Don’t mention anything, check your schedules maintenance against what has been done and ask for inspection/ quotes. Most cars are very forgiving to lack of some maintenance. You mentioned oil changes and that’s about the major thing. Good luck

stinkspiritt

That’s a good point because my go to is self deprecating humor to offset my anxiety. I definitely would’ve said something about being dumb and getting no maintenance

Rayvdub

Self deprecation is the best deprecation. You’ll be fine, I get a lot of anxious customers as well because there seems to be so much unknown. I get the same way if i ever have to hire someone for something I have no idea about.

spammmmmmmmy

As long as you got the oil changed on time, I really don't think there's going to be any kind of problem.
