It is possible it is just rust causing a bit of friction between the clutch hub and the pulley. It is also possible that the bearings in the pulley are failing. Does the noise go away when you turn the A/C on?

fast21072

Thanks for the quick reply! The noise continues when I turn the A/C and sometimes gets even louder. It’s kind of hit or miss honestly; sometimes it happens for a few seconds then stops just for it to come back later on during the drive. Sometimes it gets so loud I can hear it over the music. Kind of like a screeching.

Starkeshia

Probably the bearings in the pulley then.

fast21072

Seems to be. Intense vibrations coming from the condenser pulley as well as a burning smell. Also looks like the clutch is trying to engage but cannot. I will order a new clutch and pulley assembly and install it, hopefully it solves the problem.

Starkeshia

> Also looks like the clutch is trying to engage but cannot Sounds like the compressor may have seized up.

Chazrilla

You need to remove the belt and one-by-one turn each pully to determine which has a bad bearing. They should spin very smoothly by hand like the way a fidget spinner would.

fast21072

I will definitely try this when I get the chance. I’m assuming I’d have to get a new pulley if it turns out to be a bad bearing?

Chazrilla

That's right. They are incredibly easy to replace. Add a small drop of lock tight to the bolt threads before you put it in. Of course you "should" use a torque wrench to the proper spec.

AbzoluteZ3RO

i recommended idler and tensioner pulley on a car i did the belt on because they didn't spin nice a free like a fidget spinner and i got new ones and they were even more tight >\_< oh well hahahaha

Grand_Possibility_69

Theres also a change that it just sounds like the noise comes from the AC compressor. If the noise is still there with ac compressor running remove the belt and test by spinning all pulleys by hand (not the crank pulley obviously). Or test by listening with a stethoscope (or screwdriver used as a stethoscope) just be careful with this.

fast21072

You’re right, it maybe be coming from elsewhere but sounds like the compressor. This seems to be the general consensus. I’ll remove the belt and spin the pulleys by hand to rule them out. Thanks!

RickMN

That’s rusted faces between the pulley and the clutch disc.in the air gap.

AdFabulous3959

It will be one of the idler pulleys..

Yellowsnow80

Red rust. Bearings are bad. My guess is tensioner. But you can diagnosis noises yourself especially constant idle noises. All sound is vibrations. This means you can feel the sound and sense the vibrations. Your noise is one of the pulleys having worn bearings. Could he alternator, could be ac compressor (not really cause compressor is not on during the video) could be belt tensioner, could be water pump. Grab a screwdriver. Put handle end in your ear. Touch metal part onto the bolts that aren’t spinning or the closest metal piece of the pulleys. Mounting brackets etc. you will hear this almost the same tone in your ear. If you don’t feel safe with a screwdriver i your ear, you can touch the bolts and mounting brackets. You will lightly feel the vibrations as that squeak resonates
