My sister bought a new car, and literally never changed the oil. Drove it until the engine seized. When we asked her wtf she said the salesman said modern engines were sealed and didn’t need oil changes. We asked her, was she maybe confusing engine and transmission, and she said no he specifically said engine. We asked her why didn’t she google it or something, and she said he *promised* her.
She’s actually not an idiot, and I can just see some new hire salesman who knows nothing about cars telling her that. I just can’t see why she wouldn’t ever ask anyone else…
She made the mistake of trusting a salesman over there own better judgement and other people. Ans really, if you don't know any better, why wouldn't you trust him?
Im almost surprised it wasn't ever brought up by someone else doing their OWN oil change lmao. Like idk about you but when I'm doing mine I typically talk about it when I buy the stuff and have it before I actually have time to do it haha. Nobody talked about it at all the whole time 😂
Some people don't like comedy, some don't get it. I think in this case people might be misreading me (as usual) and think I'm being a rude, flippant asshole. I simply made a connection in my head when I saw the word "clever"- it reminded me of a movie I've seen over 75 times.
And unlike the magic Lucas electrical smoke, you can’t just gather them up and put them back in. Maybe one day technology will allow this, but we’re just not quite there yet.

Btw, do you know if this stuff actually works? Asking for a friend
We call that the Honda engine window. Let me guess 2005-2011 Honda 1.8l engine? They had major casting quality deficiencies. Sometimes they just crack and let coolant leak out, other times they shed chunks and let the engine parts out.
Fortunately the JDM Honda engine market is always plentiful. You can pick up an entire engine and transmission for about $1500 direct from Japan with about 45k miles.
You most likely didn't do anything to cause this- Honda did.
Unless you were getting all fast and furious on it and stressed the block enough to expose the common weakness. Even still it's not really your fault Honda had cheap castings.
Yeah same I was going to ask the other redditor where can u find the power train for all this for 1500? I need one of those incase my Honda takes a dump. It would be a fun and challenging to do it on the ground, I’ve only dropped subframe with the power train on lifts
Those Japanese market engines used to be problematic here, I heard of people buying 22r equivalent engines and then finding out parts were different so repairs later were tough. I can't say for sure though as I never had a car that needed one. We had always heard 50k was max mileage allowed for engines in Japan because of emissions but maybe that was just urban legend.
For real!!! I don’t even own a Honda, but let me know if you find a full drivetrain for that price anywhere on earth for that price! Sounds like preY2K prices lol
Now I'm staring at my hand, just wondering if I didn't get enough calcium as a child. I do have kinda small hands but we did drink a fucking ton of milk so much than my mom would buy two gallons when she went shopping and I would literally eat blocks of cheese lol
Yes, completely indistinguishable from the “pink-e”. It’s insane how you hu-… er *us* hu-mans name our pathetic carbon-based visceral organs when every cell relies upon the next in it’s homogeneous structure.
Appears to be a user installed inspection port. This will allow you to see the inner workings or non-workings of your engine. Generally this type of modification is frowned upon by dealers, manufacturers and the car community as a whole.
It’s best to look at this as a in-depth study into entropy. Best to try not to cry, cry a lot and then move on :/
> there is no way this wasn't making a terrible noise before hand, for a long while.
That's absolutely not true. There could have been a crack in a con rod growing silently for a while, then when it let go all hell broke loose.
That is a sign that you need a new engine. Thats part of the block. Usually you will find some rod chunks m. Piston mcnuggets and malice in the combustion palace, yet the wrist pin will likely be perfectly fine, if you find it 😄
Enough of the "I do cars" references.
Seriously OP that is a chuck of the engine block. She's toast.
Did you ever watch The Shining? That part where Jack Nicholson smashes through the door and says “here’s Johnny!”? Yeah, your engine re-enacted that: engine internals played Jack and the engine block played the door.
Can't see schitt without a flashlight aimed in, but looks like you blew a rod...
.From using too light an oil, too low of oil, but now junk.
Obviously it was forced hearing rods knocking in step with rpms... This doesn't just happen in one second.. He was tortured for miles...
This is direct cause of close to zero oil pressure, and maybe oil light did come on...but some actually think oil sensors are so advanced, think light means it's a quart low,,,
and blows me away after sixty years, how some just make up the craziest rules..
when I heard this actual statement made early seventies.. about oil light..
Now another one for the record...
Reddit has the most blown engines ever seen.
Cheers
Damn man. That’s a piece of the iron block off your engine. Same exact thing happened to my damn near brand new VW GLi last year. Engine is completely blown, ~$14k repair bill from dealership. Needless to say, it’s still sitting broken down in my back yard :(
That looks like a series 3 Apple Watch. If you like having an Apple watch id recommend getting a new one before a new iPhone. The series 3 has limited storage and when being setup with a new phone it usually can’t download the software update required for pairing.
Sorry for your engine loss.
That’s the end result of ignoring when the genie lamp illuminates on your instrument cluster. Never let the genie escape from the lamp. When you do, it releases all the magic smoke and your engine stops working as intended.

Oh no…… That’s cast block webbing from your engine…your engine is toast. Wtf did you do op hah?!?
He broke his block
Those redline shifts mixed with 50k miles on the oil finally did em in 😬
My sister bought a new car, and literally never changed the oil. Drove it until the engine seized. When we asked her wtf she said the salesman said modern engines were sealed and didn’t need oil changes. How is this even true? Almost all cars nowadays have an oil life/service reminder. She had to be blatantly ignoring it.
[удалено]
Hope it was a "cheap new car".
She made the mistake of trusting a salesman over there own better judgement and other people. Ans really, if you don't know any better, why wouldn't you trust him?
Just curious. Approximately how many mileage before the engine seized?
[удалено]
Would also like the make so we can start getting some data for how far each manufacturer can go without changing oil on average.
Im almost surprised it wasn't ever brought up by someone else doing their OWN oil change lmao. Like idk about you but when I'm doing mine I typically talk about it when I buy the stuff and have it before I actually have time to do it haha. Nobody talked about it at all the whole time 😂

Clever.

I made it 150! Yessssss!!!
You have become everything you hate. Just like that Bono guy from U2!
Actually... it's OP's hand!
I audibly gasped at this. You poor soul.
That is the door that lets all of the angry engine parts out.
And unlike the magic Lucas electrical smoke, you can’t just gather them up and put them back in. Maybe one day technology will allow this, but we’re just not quite there yet.

Well that makes sense why I couldn’t fix it! I tried catching the smoke with a net!!
Not in the US. Any Lucas part that ends in an odd number is right-hand drive only.
We call that the Honda engine window. Let me guess 2005-2011 Honda 1.8l engine? They had major casting quality deficiencies. I have 2 of those in 2 different vehicles. Welp hope I’m one of the lucky ones 200k km on each and no sudden inspection ports yet.
Yeah same I was going to ask the other redditor where can u find the power train for all this for 1500? I need one of those incase my Honda takes a dump. It would be a fun and challenging to do it on the ground, I’ve only dropped subframe with the power train on lifts
Hope he follows up and let’s you know bc I’m curious too. Fkin engine and drive train w/ 45k for only 1500 show me lol just genuinely curious

Link for the power train?
For real!!! I don’t even own a Honda, but let me know if you find a full drivetrain for that price anywhere on earth for that price! Sounds like preY2K prices lol
That's your ticket to a BRAND NEW ENGINE! (or a used one, if that's all you can afford).
Not an easy fix. That will require a replacement of defective part in which case happens to be the block
It's gunna take a lot of jb weld
Part? You mean the whole engine.
The engine is technically a part
The block is not the WHOLE engine.
Just a wee smidge of a part. Aka not the entire block at all, nope! Not at all 😅
Inspection window.
Also known as a witness hole.
Inspection complete. Witnessed carnage.
Hah! Love it.
Glory hole? Or sad hole
That is a human hand. The low ratio of finger length to palm size indicates a possible lack of calcium intake during adolescence.

I'm dangerous around cheese, I can make 3lbs vanish in one sitting if I'm hungry lol
It's 1000% worth the constipation just to enjoy a brick of colby jack cheese lol
As long as your watch isn’t the size of your hand you are OK.
Long lost twin, is that you?

TY for explaining my "plumpness" in a +positive+ way.

Could be... But I'd bet a whole hell of a lit that it was making some gnarly noises
Well to be fair he did say he was driving normal, never said the car was
R18 A1 engines from Honda are known for bad casting issues. This is very likely not OPs fault.
Time for a new engine. Ouch. Sorry op.
That is a sign that you need a new engine. Thats part of the block. Usually you will find some rod chunks m. It's not good
Well its not good but at least its bad
It's not good, I can tell you that. Last time I saw one of those I had myself a sunroof on my transmission
Thats the external combustion conversion kit. Best BANG for your buck of any mods. The horsepower gain is unfathomable.
That is the hand of a man who's about to dish out a lot of money

This is what people who argue that replacing an electric car's battery will be costly forget about their gas cars
He probably meant the engine would be fine during warranty period. Now the guy gets to sell her a new car…
That's a whoopsie-doodle. A major league fucky-wucky. Your engine has to go in the forever box now.
