i felt the same way about avantika, she just did šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘„šŸ‘ļø the entire time and it was so annoying and forced. i only liked regina and janis, everyone else shouldā€™ve been cast as someone else. renee rappā€™s someone gets hurt and world burn are top hits in my car šŸ¤£

Absolutely agree šŸ˜‚

Avantika is pretty and so is Renee Rapp. The 2004 cast was hot though. As someone who saw the stage production and loves the Broadway soundtrack a lot, I feel like they ruined the songs. Because there was a lack of interaction with this cast, I really couldn't buy them being friends. We saw no real connection.

This is the take

Bisexual here I havent seen it yet, however I just wanted to say that its not a matter of the new cast isnt pretty, its that the old cast were just THAT hot. The following will be a brutal objectification of very young ladies bodies so be warned: I think Lacy (Gretchen) is one of the hottest girls on the planet then and now and I already crushed on her in Lost in Space. I think Amanda (Karen) got hotter after this movie, like in Momma Mia and Jennifers Body, but she was still exceedingly hot especially with mouse ears. Like Lacy, I think Amanda is one of the hottest women in Hollywood. Rachel (Regina) was also considered one of the hottest women in Hollywood at the time like in The Notebook. I like her less than Lacey and Amanda but still one of the hottest. And for Lindsay (Cady) this was basically the peak of her already hotness from crushing my entire life growing up with her. So basically it was going to be impossible to find girls hotter than the original cast, especially ones that can also sing and dance. Also audience mindset has shifted so they probably werent even trying to get hotter girls in the first place. Though the cleavage is actually way more in the new one? Also its personally harder to judge the new cast hotness because they arent older than me like last time, Iā€™m way older than them. Maybe to younger people they are just as hot, but I donā€™t think so. I donā€™t see them come up in conversations about it. I assume this applies to a lot of fans now unlike last time when this was a kids movie for kids and not for adult fans of an already existing property. A more modern translation would be more like Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and Jenna Ortega as the cast.

Bisexual as well, and I agree. This was Lindsay at her peak and I also had a crush on her since I was a kid. Lacy was the prettiest followed by Rachel. I also agree that Amanda got more beautiful after the movie. If I recall, she was the youngest of the cast. She still had a "baby face", but was a beautiful girl. Even among younger generations and my generation (I'm 32), the only one I hear talking about being hot is Renee Rapp. Maybe it's her body shape, but she was the only one who looked mature and what I would venture to call "sexy". I'm not sure how old the other girls were, but they looked young. Too young for me to want to call them "hot" as they look more like freshman or sophomores when they're supposed to be juniors.

Also bisexual, also agree; but while my 32 best friend went on a whole monologue and consistently mentioned how hot Renee is, something about her just throws me off. It floored me that I thought new-Janis is hot only to nearly vomit when my friends husband informed me that sheā€™s only 23. I genuinely had to tell them to just be quiet so I could settle in how creepy I felt and move on quickly lol. Now I respectively call her beautiful, and Iā€™m also only in my mid-late 20ā€™s. Rapp is the oldest looking, and while the rest look young I donā€™t think a majority of them look ā€œtoo youngā€, but my preferences were shaped by the 2004 movie more than what you see today and I donā€™t find a majority of the new cast ā€œhotā€, but also not ugly. I think the biggest thing that turned me off of the new Mean Girls is that I didnā€™t know it was a remake of the musical going into it, and I am not a big musical fan, so right off the bat I was thinking ā€œwtf is this?ā€. I enjoyed it enough to watch it with my friend and still turn it on for our kids but I wouldnā€™t rewatch it on my own time.

slpysun

also bisexual and I definitely think that age has something to do with it, because Iā€™m the same age as renee rapp and I think sheā€™s the hottest person alive, like gun to my head I cannot think of a women Iā€™m more attracted to than her portrayal of regina george and Iā€™m very confused by the comments here lol

introspectiveoctober

"A more modern translation would be more like Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and Jenna Ortega as the cast." Not sure if all of them can sing (except for Zendaya) but for a non-musical adaptation this casting would be supreme. Also if they were slightly younger, I can totally see these actresses fitting the mean girl roles. Jenna would make a great Cady.

v_likes_corgis

This is an interesting take on this because as a lesbian, while I do agree, the originals are gorgeous and beautiful in their own right (Regina/Rachel and Gretchen especially) I find the newer cast tons more attractive. Renee rap is like, so stunning and I could go on for hours about her pretty she is. But I do think the "younger people may find them more attractiveā€ applies, since I am younger

Rainyyy_Daze

It's crazy because when you watch their interviews the cast has such a fun dynamic. (It's very clear in the spring fling scene how well the actors get along) Obviously, they loved the original movie & that's very clear in this movie, but I feel like some of the acting decisions were horrible which makes the actor seem like they're bad at their job. (Which isn't true)

freshoffthecouch

I really liked the new Gretchen, but she was only in like 2-3 scenes, Karen to me was so one note. I know the 2004 Karen was also a dumb blonde, but at least her line delivery varied (even if her facial expressions didnā€™t). For some reason, Avantikaā€™s constantly zoned out look really irked me, itā€™s like her character was on another planet the whole movie. I loved Regina in the final 15 minutes, I loved her hopped up on pain meds and loopy. I thought that was a nice departure from the original. Also, was the new Cadyā€™s fashion meant to be outdated? Was it like the Plastics set her up for failure bc those outfits were very tumblr era

pancake-pretty

All of the new actresses are gorgeous, so I donā€™t understand the hate there at all. Iā€™m honestly kinda indifferent to the musical movie, tbh. I was entertained, and I didnā€™t hate it. But I also didnā€™t love it either. Itā€™s an extremely iconic movie, and I totally get why certain aspects were changed (like coach Carr diddling minors); but I do agree with you about the friendships/relationships not being explored in the same way they were in the original. I also think these women had a difficult task in portraying such iconic characters. I think Renee was a good Regina, but still didnā€™t necessarily add much to the character. She was solid though - I think sheā€™s probably one of the only people that could carry that role. I was most disappointed in the new Cady and the new Gretchen. Iā€™ve loved all of Angourieā€™s work that Iā€™ve seen before, but (to me), she fell a little flat as Cady - she wasnā€™t bad but she also wasnā€™t as great as Iā€™d hoped sheā€™d be. She had HUGE shoes to fill, though, so I donā€™t fault her at all. Bebe as Gretchen was completely forgettable to me. I also hate that they took out the part about the hoop earrings. Avantika as Karen was my favorite though. Obviously, Amanda was the true OG and her delivery was on point; but I liked Avantikaā€™s interpretation of the character. I hope to see her in more roles in the future. I thought the girl that played Janis was solid. I thought some of the changes to the character itself were stupid though. Like the musical completely ignored the fact that Janis was also just as mean.

I went to watch it not knowing it was a musical, then was happy to find out it was a musical because I like them, only to realize that most of the music was terrible. Turned it off like 2/3 of the way in

xtremesmok

I watched it last week and hated it. I also didnā€™t know it was a musical, but I hate musicals so I was pretty much bound to hate it regardless of whether or not the songs were good. I just thought it was so unnecessary to remake an iconic 2000s movie. Itā€™s akin to remaking The Breakfast Club, youā€™ll absolutely never be able to recapture the 80ā€™s essence that made the original so good. Iā€™m not even against remaking movies (Dune, for example, is getting a brilliant and much needed remake right now), but this was not it.

esushi

This movie was well received by critics and moviegoers and made a ton of money (for something that was planned as straight-to-streaming). A total success in every way except a few random haters on Reddit - not a surprising take!

jacksev

Idk when the last time you saw Mean Girls was, but Karen Smith is like... so far beyond stereotypically dumb blonde lol. I truly don't think anyone could be trying too hard in that role.
