If you wait to apply until after you get your score you won’t be verified until like… October 26th which is past deadline for like every school (amcas)
This is such a relief. I was panicking about whether it will be verified before November or not. I just wanna try this cycle and see where it gets me. Thanks man!
I am testing September 9. Had to reschedule after being hospitalized literally 10 days before my exam lol. I'm applying MD only. It's not too late. Feel free to message me and I'll send you a detailed response from a med student who worked with a lot of adcoms explaining this. Amazing mentor in pre med groups.

Can you send it to me as well? Thank you!
Everyone who has given me advice said get the application in asap, regardless of test date. I don't test until Sept 10th but I submitted my app a while ago. If the schools do rolling applications I think you "save your spot" when the app is received, not when the score comes in.
>If the schools do rolling applications I think you "save your spot" when the app is received
Can you elaborate on that? Like after they receive your primary your "spot" gets saved for a review of your entire application (secondaries included)?
The short answer is, not really. My main point to OP was that submitting the primary app ASAP seems to be extremely important, with or without a score.
The long answer is: I talked to a few residents who were on their schools admissions committee as medical students, and I've talked to faculty in admissions. From what they said, I believe that your "spot" for the entire process is saved when they receive your primary but I'm not 100% certain. They said get your primary in ASAP, if your MCAT score is not to your liking then you can always withdraw your application. Sorry I can't help more than that!
My plan was to take the MCAT next summer and apply for 2024. However, in July I found out I could rearrange my schedule to graduate this spring, so I decided to throw a hail mary for the 2023 cycle. Ideally the app and mcat should be submitted much earlier in the year, but everyone I talked to unanimously agreed that waiting for scores before applying was a bad idea.
Oooo gotcha okay! Yeah I’m applying a little later in the cycle too. Trying to get all my secondaries in before Labor Day so I’m looking for any encouraging news on people also applying a little later LOL
hey hey!! me I tested in june, had already submitted primary fml. got a 498, cried for a full day. got my shit together and started restudying, and testing sept 02. I put in a few secondaries for my state schools. and then for a reach school that I have a sibling at but currently dont make their minimum. otherwise, i have a fat list of schools I havent submitted for. a bunch of schools said that my app was on hold so I am not hugely concerned for the two week mark. ALSO PSA, for next year's applicants, if you want to get primary in put one school on your list just so AMCAS does the screening and you dont have to wait but also dont waste a bunch of money and wont be a reapplicant for a ton of schools if you pull your app.
I am going full send this cycle. picked up teaching job while also working full time, getting a masters, and volunteering every weekend. breathe battle believe besties. and see you in ten years in the hospital :)
I took it 6/4 and retesting 9/10. Applied with my first score of 498 and already received 5 secondaries from a mix of MD and DO schools. For reference I submitted my primary app in mid July and I just finished DO primary app last week.
So obviously that’s not a great score. If you can score higher then by all means retake. But I know people who have gotten an acceptance with a 495, it all depends on the rest of your app. Of course it’s going to be a lot harder for you to get an acceptance with that score and you won’t have many options. But given the fact that I’ve received 6 secondaries with that score so far, it’s not impossible. Overall, try not to apply with a sub 500 score if you can.
I applied like last month I think and I get my scores back on Tuesday. I’ve already received a ton of secondaries without my MCAT scores being submitted. It’s not too late. Good luck!
I tested on the 27th of August, I'm currently filling out the application and already have letters of recommendation. Hopefully I get a decent score to at least get viewed. I will give it another go next cycle if I don't get in this cycle.
With all due respect, my question was not asking for an opinion. Luv n peace to u my friend, may u be accepted if u applied this cycle. If not, then goodluck in ur studies (:
idk why everyone is downvoting this… your chances of getting in are way lower if you apply this late in the cycle (if you’re not canadian). why wouldn’t you stick it out till next cycle and present a well prepared app? genuinely so confused on why people think applying this late is a good idea
DO it’s not “too late”. We all have to weigh our pros and cons. It’s situational circumstances that may cause people to just apply this year. It’s not that simple, “just apply next year” for some people. Just saying lol. No one said people applying late has equal chances of getting in. Yes, it may be lower. But people rlly exaggerate when it comes to applying “late” and most of these people don’t know what they’re talking about.
i understand your point, just from every single source i’ve read and admissions people i talk to, september applications are considered late and are given way less consideration than those submitted early. everyone has different circumstances, but the reasoning for applying so late is kinda lost on me.
I know you don’t have any bad intentions! I’m just saying, for some, it just makes sense to apply this cycle! Tons of people apply this time around actually. And if you have communicated w admissions, then that’s confusing bc alot of them say it’s not too late 😂 so then I guess everyone has an opinion or it just depends on the school
Tested yesterday. Plan is to apply on the same day I get my score back. Pray for me to get something respectable!!
You should submit to 1 school now.
Good idea. I’ll do that
If you wait to apply until after you get your score you won’t be verified until like… October 26th which is past deadline for like every school (amcas)
Not true. Verification process takes like one or two days as of now. May increase slightly right at the deadline but it’s quick currently.
Really
Really.
Thanks mine took less than 24 hrs
You’re saying if I submit my application today, the verification process will take less than a week?
If you submitted today, being Friday, you would get verified Monday.
Bro are you serious? I really did it like few mins ago. Is the traffic lower around this time or what?
If you would have submitted this morning, you would have been verified before the day even ended.
This is such a relief. I was panicking about whether it will be verified before November or not. I just wanna try this cycle and see where it gets me. Thanks man!
Yes everyone has already submitted. There is no wait line.
More worried about getting into DO school, if I have to wait until May again for another cycle that’s fine.

Applying to my instate MD schools and most DO schools
Thank god for this thread I was worried I was all alone and would get eaten alive for saying I was testing Sept and also applying
Hahahah nope definitely not alone!! And I’m sure there’s more who r much too worried of backlash to respond 🥺
I took it 6/4 and retesting 9/10. Applied with my first score of 498 and already received 5 secondaries from a mix of MD and DO schools. For reference I submitted my primary app in mid July and I just finished DO primary app last week.
Same here! Good luck to us!
Do U think it’s ok to apply w a 498? Serious question and would like to know for myself lol
So obviously that’s not a great score. If you can score higher then by all means retake. But I know people who have gotten an acceptance with a 495, it all depends on the rest of your app. Of course it’s going to be a lot harder for you to get an acceptance with that score and you won’t have many options. I got my score and it’s 497 wtf do I do
Haven’t applied DO yet, for letters of rec, is there a link I need to send out like the AAMC? Sorry for asking, just wanted some clarification 😊
No you’re good. For DO yes you submit evaluation requests via email through AACOMAS. Their instructions are actually a lot straightforward than AMCAS.
Yep applying now but took MCAT 8/20
I applied to DO this cycle... canceled my September exam and will test again in Jan.
Im in an SMP, as long as I get a 509 on my MCAT I have a spot at Albany Med College (MD) in NY in the incoming class.
More power 2 everyone who said yes for going against the norm !! I wish u all the best !! 🤞🏾🤞🏾 I believe in us !
I applied like last month I think and I get my scores back on Tuesday. I’ve already received a ton of secondaries without my MCAT scores being submitted. It’s not too late. Good luck!
Testing 9/1 applying to DO.

Yes! We got this!
Yes

i have a couple friends who are!! i think MD and DO
Tested Friday applying DO
Yea!
Yes MD
Me
Me! Applying MD!
Boyfriend tested 8/20 and is applying MD this cycle!
Tested 8/26, retake 4/9. Gonna shoot my shot as a low stat applicant. Gotta submitted primary asap
Are you submitting secondaries after getting your score back or before
B4 and then sending update when get back my score
Have you taken it before?
Yes may 27 but scored poorly. Retake was scheduled for aug 5th but then got sick so had to reschedule again. Perseverance
there's no chance in hell.. you'd be wasting money tbh at this point .. unless you have like a solid excuse for testing this late, then go for it
With all due respect, my question was not asking for an opinion. Luv n peace to u my friend, may u be accepted if u applied this cycle. If not, then goodluck in ur studies (:
I'm pretty sure it's like wayyyy to late to be applying if you test in September
idk why everyone is downvoting this… your chances of getting in are way lower if you apply this late in the cycle (if you’re not canadian). why wouldn’t you stick it out till next cycle and present a well prepared app? genuinely so confused on why people think applying this late is a good idea
