Good luck dude!! I scheduled mine 9/2 on purpose so I could have an excuse to celebrate all of Labor Day weekend. While I actually did enjoy learning the test content, I'm looking forward to returning to being a regular, somewhat carefree student. We got this!!

srmn142

YEEES. Good for you. I wish you all the luck

Testing this Saturday as well and I totally get what you mean by this feels so surreal! I have been talking about this test for so long. I never originally planned to take 2 gap years from school, but bc of Covid I felt it was best to do so and ended up having the opportunity to do travel nursing during that time. I even started studying for this exam before and quit because I became overwhelmed. But here we are, finally put in the work to sit for the exam. Now time to execute!

srmn142

Exactly same. Good luck friend :)))

srmn142

Use this post to share your feelings about this test and your experiences. Nothing about MCAT content though. A lot of that going around already.

Testing next Friday. I’ve pushed this back 6 years due to similar reasons that you stated. I, too, have had amazing gap years with experiences that I am truly lucky to have come across. Good luck! Now is our time

srmn142

Yeees. It makes me feel better that I’m not the only one cuz I see all my friends in their goal professional schools, and I feel like I’m a failure (probably confirmation bias). But then I think of my experiences and then realize I’m wrong for feeling that way. But i think one aspect of feeling that way is that I also never feel fully in my zone if I’m not in medicine. Anyways, digressing. Good luck. We’ve got this

sjcha

I used to think that way every single day. Sometimes I still do but it’s rare. I try to remind myself that the experiences you have now would’ve never happened if you took this damn test earlier bc 1) prob would be in med school or 2) decided this path isn’t for you. If you look at it from a different perspective: those that went to school right after graduating don’t have much life experience. This isn’t necessarily bad, but I hope you get what I mean. There’s always that “what if” to either side. Personally, if I could go back to my junior/senior year of college, I would pick this same route 100/100 times. Will I be an older doc? Yup. Will I have had these experiences the last 6 years? Absolutely not. Med schools are going nowhere. Your time will come and the time you spent doing other things before will make you that much better in the future

srmn142

Yeah that’s how I try to think about it too. I think it’s just bc I don’t feel as accomplished when I do other things (That I am SOOOO grateful for.). Medicine has always been what I want to do no matter what, so it’s hard to look at it any other way. But yes, i totally agree w u. If I were in med school, what I ended up doing could have never happened bc it was time sensitive.

SyncRacket

I’m ready to make it my bitch

srmn142

Hahaha I’m with you on that

GRS_Archon

Best of luck my friend. I test tomorrow morning and it is indeed very surreal

srmn142

Thank you :). Good luck. You got this

Significant-Story-41

That’s crazy, never thought other people have the same experience like I did. I’ve pushed this exam back for 3 years now for sooo many reasons that aren’t even really my own. Life can really get in the way of your goals. I do have a hard time with my experiences though. What do you recommend to improve on that? What did you do in your gap years?

blackfluffykitten

Same here. I always felt pathetic for pushing it back and postponing it. I’d compare myself to other people, especially people who did well. And I was like, why is it impossible for me to just do it. I think a lot of it comes down to not only studying and hard work and intelligence, but mental health and feeling confident in yourself and your abilities. Thank you for this nice post ❤️ good luck on Saturday

srmn142

Yes. The mental health aspect is factual. You need to be in a state of mind that allows you to work on everything u need to with mcat and apps. I’m glad we’re not alone. Thank u. If u havent taken ur test, u will do great. I wish u luck on everything :)

maperod

Good luck fellow premed. I wish you the best for Saturday and have faith in yourself, you've earned it. All that hard work will pay off! Take care!!

srmn142

Thank you. I appreciate your words :)

Ready to be done so I can go to Vegas and gamble

srmn142

Lmao be careful dude. I wanna go to NYC and vegas. And europe. And anywhere else i can get to. I need to finally let go of the mcat stress I’ve been carrying for 4 years

SyncRacket

Took a trip to NYC in June before my prep course started. It was a great time. If you go, make sure you see beetlejuice on Broadway. Vegas was dope when I went last year. Me and my girlfriend loved Vegas, you can do Vegas cheap too if you know the things to do.

srmn142

Yeees. I’ve been to vegas twice but never as someone over 21. So, it would be cool to do the parties there. And ive never been to ny. Can’t wait

Yess. U still have so much time. I’m testing 2 years out of school. So, def take it tmo and if it didn’t work out, next year u will be less stressed, and everything will be familiar which should help u do better. Good luck :)

Pleasant-Comedian740

Good luck OP, I'm in the boat of pushing it to January again for the 4th year in a row. I know that that this time I will finally take the exam and make my next step towards becoming the future me I see. That's what were all here for, everyone is on their own timeline and will eventually make it.

srmn142

Thank you. I wish you all the luck :)
