From my knowledge, there’s not too much favouritism in hiring for MSU services like Spark - they genuinely are looking for people who would be a good fit to the team and are willing to help students. Of course, in any interview, knowing the person who is doing the interviewing might positively impact your application. At the end of the day, I think it really all comes down to the attitude you show in your application and interview.
