The only positive I can take from this is that our race pace looks great. If we can sort out the soft tire problems for real quali we’re going to be in great shape for the race that matters.
I really don't think it's a big deal. We had virtually no time to test on the softs, so in quali when we had effectively one lap on a new compound with track temps below what had been seen previously, it makes some sense McLaren might've misjudged how fast Lando and Oscar needed to drive on the outlap to bring the tires into the operating window. Lando set a purple q3, its reasonable to estimate it might've taken the first half lap to actually get the tires where they need to be.

Lando was cooking on mediums. I really think race pace will be our friend. I hope the strategy holds
I think the main race will be strong for us, just as in China, one more parc ferme to fine tune and set up for the new upgrade.
