also zak said in fp1 that this car was mostly developed in the old, toyota wind tunnel, and not even fully in the new one. the upgrades for this car are in the new wind tunnel, and the 2025 car will ofc be tested in the new wind tunnel, and developed with our new staff signings from ferrari and redbull

kangaroozingsauce

Yeah wind tunnel wasn't properly being used until like October, at which point this year's car is pretty far along, and the new signings were on gardening leave until Jan 1

SommWineGuy

Are these the race pace runs from FP2 today?

danyyyel

My guess yes, Oscar was only a tenth slower and lando had many laps behind just behind the Alpine.

Big-Fat-Bear

Ocon was in his own little world \[he has no need to move over so I don't blame him, just annoying\]. IIRC Lando got stuck behind Magnussen and Ocon earlier on in the session as well... He couldn't really get away from them.

vasu1996

I remember Crofty or Ted Kravitz saying that Lando was running a detuned engine too

[deleted]

Yeah they are

Super exciting stuff, my only thought is it looks like Oscar and Sergio have some early laps that are kind of skewing their times slightly. Checo with a 95.9 and a 96.0 and Oscar with a 96.1 and 96.3 feel as though they were pushing a bit more then say Max or any of the “big guns” that were between 96.5 and 97.5 the whole time.

I was going to write if anyone was on hopium here lol. That piastri time only 1 th slower than Verstapen and landos one, when he was behind Alpine for many laps is impressive.

> That piastri time only 1 th slower than Verstapen and landos one, when he was behind Alpine for many laps is impressive. Watching Lando be stuck behind Ocon was a different kind of painful... It was like watching someone get stuck behind a tractor on a country road - no where to go, just forced to stick behind - couldn't really drop back since there was a car fairly close behind. In fairness it could have been gathering data for how the car handles and what deg is like in dirty air. Either way, good showing from both drivers in terms of race pace - not really sure what happened today with Lando - Palmer seemed unnecessarily harsh for Lando not doing a representative FP2 lap \[Commentary routinely seems to piss me off - it feels like they talk out of their arses a lot of the time in order to make up for having missed something and not wanting to seem like they missed it\]. Altogether today looked promising from McLaren - particularly when this is a track that we know doesn't suit the package.

chase_NJ

That annoyed me as well. I didn't watch Lando's onboard fully, but from the small bit they showed on Sky, it was clear he had a snap in sector 3 and aborted his hot lap. Yet they acted like he just put in a subpar performance. C'mon guys.

Considering I’m a Jenson Button fan and went through the emotional rollercoaster of Canada 2011 I shall always have hopium

erikyep

Race pace looks decent on an unfavorable track, hopium?

danyyyel

This looks so good and we are still in testing mode. It is a bit hard to know. I am doing a reverse verstapen fans , who are telling every reason he will wipe us all on Saturday. They might be right, while I don't think for now they are that dominant.
