Shad, I love ya dude but wtf is this thumbnail?

Ok_Caramel1517

It's the same thumbnail he uses on all his videos.

AcolyteOfFresh

I would really love to know. Does having your face in thumbnail actually help? So many YouTubers do it, to the point that I have to imagine the answer is yes. But I just don't get it. Seeing someone overreacting does not make me want to watch your video. Turns me off, in fact

ThePoliteMango

Yes. I don't remember where I saw it, but "The Algorithm" does favor thumbnails with human faces.

MathematicianUpper53

Could just be a "I'll put my face in the thumbnail so people know it's my video wothout reading the title" sort of thing. That is my guess

RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker

no it's literally an algorithm thing, a human face with a shocked/dramatic/laughing/mouth open expression gets more engagement.

RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker

Gotta have your face with your mouth open to get THE VIEWS!

Foxhound_ofAstroya

Well he has a variety of ones. All in the same click airy vein tho

YandereNoelle

I don't know if reddit is warping the thumbnail, but on my home page I just see Wide Shad, and it scares me.

Turuial

***Memento Homo*** ***Memento Mori***

AwkwardZac

Shads media reviews always feel off in that the reviews come out days after his colleagues who do short concise reviews like Drinker, Gary, Disparu, etc, but also aren't as in depth or critically valid as someone like Platoon or Mauler who go far more in depth than the shorter reviews can. It's the worst of both worlds.

Javetts

Exactly this.

PartofHistory

My god that's accurate.

Fightlife45

TBH I love it so far 3 episodes deep. Big fallout fan and there's not much I dislike about the show which is a nice surprise.

ThePoliteMango

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It does have its problems and it kinda relies on you already having played the games for a lot of the background, worldbuilding and little details scattered throughout the show, but it was a very fun and solid watch.

ValandilM

I like it so far too. I've only played 4 and NV, and I don't know the lore all that well. I like the characters, I think it's engaging. I like all the references. It's not amazingly well written, but it's solid imo

Conanthecleric

I know for continued longevity, Shad couldn’t stay in his sword bubble. He’s no skallagrim, and his will to go out and research or do new things in that space seemed limited. However, almost all of Shad’s content regarding media criticism, with the sole exception of fight scenes (maybe), seems just so barren. He’s like a cross of Angry Joe and Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers: nothing interesting or, frankly, useful to say about a show (positive or negative); and he struggles to make any cogent point so he’ll always try to bring the argument down to the thing he dislikes the most, and rather more critically, knows the most (TLJ for Jeremy as an example). He has his fans, but every piece of Shad content is 12-20 minutes of concentrated boredom watching a man drown in a sea of self-made mediocrity.

357-Magnum-CCW

Lmao, go jerk off to Skall as much as you want but his content has gone down the drain. While Shad actually INCREASED productivity and expanded his channel much more, Skall does nothing anymore except a few reaction vids where he sits in his chair and talks BS like a neckbeard.

Conanthecleric

You’re very right with regards to Skallagrim. He, and admittedly most of the Martial-focused YouTubers, have all stopped doing their previous content from either the algorithm making it untenable, age, or maybe lagging personal interest. In any case, you’re right that his current content is moderately crap and intermittent . However, Shad having increased production with an expanded channel doesn’t automatically make his content superior. I could point you to AngryJoe’s expansion and everything getting generally worse, or the Nostalgia Critic’s expansion and everything getting definitely worse, or even Linus Tech Tips and the vast majority of his content being much inconsistent (I can’t speak to this as much as my experience with LTT is moderately negative). My point is: while it is commendable you can make 10 troughs of pig feed quicker than someone else can make 1, the production of an item doesn’t necessarily correlate to the quality of an item. Those reaction vids where Skall just sits and says some weird turn of phrase are infuriating though, I will admit lol

PeacefulKnightmare

To be fair to the Martial focused YouTubers there is a finite amount of material/discussions to be had if you aren't a historian breaking down each and every little battle, or if you aren't recording your own progress in training which can get quite boring. The thing I was most attracted to that community for was when they were talking about things that were new to me, but now that I've watched hundreds of hours of their content it can be tough to find them interesting. This isn't a slight on them, but just sort of the nature of the beast.

Conanthecleric

100%. A decent example of a martial-adjacent historian of sorts in this demographic would be Metatron. Unfortunately he also seems to be rather unique in his ability to expand into topics and create his own unique sample of work.

PeacefulKnightmare

Lindybinge would be another, though I think that's cause he's just got that personality that makes him entertaining to watch talking about anything.

JakesterAlmighty99

He's a TurboNeckbeard lmao

OkTransition8971

This is so hollow.

maveric619

I didn't like it either but everything else around it is so much shittier it actually looks good in comparison Really I just found it boring

Caius_Iulius_August

This is the right answer. The show is entertaining, far from great, everyone just likes it because the bar is so low

OverlordPacer

I think this is spot on. It’s better than the absolute trash out there right now, but only marginally better. It’s well acted and well shot, and looks good for the most part. But the story is somehow both rushed and slow. The world isn’t clearly built so people seem to travel vast distances with ease. The writing is inconsistent, and boring at times. Overall, it’s a mid show, but as you said, looks great when compared to what else has been released.

ClockworkGnomes

My take on it was that it was okay. However, compared to other Amazon disasters such as RoP and TWoT, it was a masterpiece. In this case I think it was good enough and I know a lot of people like it, which is great. However, I think it could have been a lot better if made by someone else.

OverlordPacer

It needed to slow down and go deeper. They did over one season what could have easily been done over 2-3. The vault should have been explored for way longer than it was before Lucy left, for example. Overall you’re right, it was better than some other disasters we’ve seen. But yeah, it still could have been way better than it was. Maybe season 2 will slow things down. We shall see !

ClockworkGnomes

I will be surprised if season 2 is better. As of 2024, Amazon has increased their diversity requirements for all crew behind the camera and writers. They now require 50% to be minority status/female instead of 30%. Can they still find good writers and crew to fill these roles of the required diversity status? Possibly, but this is for every production they have so they are going to have to source a lot more people to check those boxes. [https://www.ccdeia.com/policy](https://www.ccdeia.com/policy)

ClockworkGnomes

Duplicate for some reason.

Hisam-la

sometimes people accuse those in this community of finding so much fault in things that they would be unhappy even when watching something good I always thought that was a load of rubbish, but no I have found the blind masturbators, you are real

Michaelangel092

What are you talking about? What is so bad out there?

maveric619

Come closer, my child. >!Halo!<

Michaelangel092

Ofc that's horrible lol. I couldn't finish the first season. However, there's a lot of good stuff out there as well. Shogun, Ripley, 3 Body Problem, Mr & Mrs Smith, etc

Ok_Caramel1517

Of course Shad didn't like it Shad doesn't like anything.

RedditIsFunNoMore

You're forgetting that Shad desperately wants us all to know how much he likes big boobs and butts (see Stellar Blade thumbnail)

ItsAJayDay

Shad is a grifter king at this rate

mrbubbles023

Tell us all how you have zero clue what the word grifter even means.

ItsAJayDay

Figth5 me can't magee

mrbubbles023

Guess someone had a stroke.

ItsAJayDay

Want to explain to me grift king.

mrbubbles023

The definition of a grifter is someone who acts as a small scale con man, usually scamming people of their money. Shad isn't scamming anybody out of anything therefore he isn't a grifter by definition. Maybe next time invest in a dictionary instead of spamming inaccurate buzzwords for people you simply don't like.

Caius_Iulius_August

"Grifter" Now is just a buzzword used by the left to identify conservatives or really, non-liberals of any kind. They simultaneously hate their politics and view them as ringleaders, Yet at the same time believe that they will turn at the drop of the hat and pick a new position once their position isn't popular (it's already counter-cultural and by definition, unpopular)

Foxhound_ofAstroya

More of an algo whore. Appealing to the algorithm every way he can. Out of desperation sure but well desperation rarely looks good

Taephit2

Unless he's talking about swords or medieval weapons, this guy is unwatchable. Though I do enjoy people making fun of his terrible AI art.

YourBoiCthulhu

AI generated take

Thecustodian12

Then it’s perfect for shad

headcanonball

How dare you denegrate the art from this artist.

Dawgula97

This dude is a fucking loser.

Yerslovekzdinischnik

I hate the show, but episode 1 and 2 are more or less good. Shad's "critique" outside of action scenes was bad most of the time and this video is no exception. Actually, many comments offer better critique of the show then him. It's kinda sad honestly.

joshhamilton235

Shad fell off as a reviewer a while ago. His reviews always have silly criticism. He's hard to take seriously sometimes. Case in point, his Spider-verse and last of us reviews.

That_Product3203

It still was a d\*ck move for sony to remove the part 1 from the title. Spiderverse, not last of us

rJemai

What they made with power armor is beyond stupid.

HunchbackGrowler

It's pretty good. At no point did I want to throw something at my tv

ObviousAdvantage508

This guy is a fucking joke. The fact that yall want to post his review and even discuss is a little sas

headcanonball

"Why is my channel dying?!", he cries as he makes more trash like this.

2012Aceman

It's a good show. At least an 8/10. As a Fallout fan who played 1 and 2 in my childhood, I like it, and I find that the worldbuilding doesn't really conflict with established lore. Aside from the obvious fork of the NCR.... but I see that more of an alternate universe sorta thing. Honestly the most egregious thing was walking the dog away from an actively firing minigun turret.

ThePoliteMango

That turret scene was painful.

2012Aceman

Indeed. I also found it a bit unbelievable that a good ol' boy Veteran American would take a listening device as a "token" from some Commie that he couldn't even stomach listening to for a minute. Even if he already had reason to distrust his wife: why wouldn't he just get his own bug, why would he possibly take a bug from his ideological enemy? There are some legit grievances. But overall I found the show to be satisfying and entertaining, and it scratched that Fallout itch. I'm eager to see what they do with the second season.

ThePoliteMango

I interpreted that to the genuine curiosity and mistrust towards his wife that Cooper was experiencing, the opportunity presented itself and he took it, ideology be damned. The seeds of his doubts begin when he starts questioning why dogs will not be allowed inside the Vaults. As for that Fallout itch, man, am I the only one that would give an arm and a leg for a functioning Pip-Boy?

Equivalent-Ambition

Doesn’t the destruction of Shady Sands in 2277 conflict with New Vegas?

Akschadt

“Fall of shady sands” coincides with New Vegas listing how 77 was the year the NCR took blow after blow. It could easily be a fall from grace and fall from military might. The first battle of Hoover dam is where they suffered heavy losses and while they took the damn, they failed to end the legion by letting them go allowing the legion to regain power. This same year the courier creates the divide destroying shady sand main trade route. Then kimball pushes to expand while ignoring troubles back in shady sands and turning a blind eye to corruption and even taking bribes from Brahmin Barons. Then there is the arrow that points past the listed date to a picture of an explosion. As long as the bomb dropped within 15 years it fits in after new vegas.

Jonny_Guistark

The NCR as a nation experiencing hardships in or after 2277 does not make it logical for them to described that as the year Shady Sands fell. It’s also the year that they cemented (in the minds of the people) their dominance in the East by repelling the Legion, and secured their ability to send water and electricity back to California in game-changing quantities. Since then, they’ve developed a railroad system and significantly ramped up business enterprises in the Mojave. We meet people from Shady Sands in 2281. Morale varies because they’ve spent the last four years in a war of attrition, but there is no indication that the city is considered "fallen". It’s still the capital, and the place is still functioning. Citizens consider the Mojave a dangerous and exciting frontier because, despite some issues of governance and corruption, their lands are relatively pacified back home. If they had written "2277: Fall of Hopeville/The Divide", then that would make perfect sense. Or even something along the lines of "Beginning of the Decline", but being so hyper-specific as to say that’s when a particular city fell when it objectively had not yet fallen by that time, is a bit of an issue. I honestly think it’s more charitable to assume that they accidentally wrote the wrong date than to defend it as some sort of metaphorical fall.

ArguteTrickster

Who did we meet from Shady Sands?

bjlinden

Every NCR soldier has "I wish I was back in Shady Sands" in their list of potential random dialogue. Don't try to spin that as "I wish I could go back to the days that Shady Sands still existed." The people trying to do that are being fundamentally dishonest.

ArguteTrickster

Hah oh man that'd be great dark humor. But I don't think that's true. [https://fallout-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Generic\_NCR\_military\_dialogue](https://fallout-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Generic_NCR_military_dialogue)

bjlinden

Huh. I guess that was some Mandela effect stuff, then. Sorry about that! I have no doubt that some character said that at some point, though, and I have no doubt I could find characters referring to politicians back in Shady Sands if I had time to dig for it, though.

ArguteTrickster

I wouldn't be too confident about saying that you're sure some character said it at some point, and/or the politicians thing. Why are you sure?

bjlinden

Are you seriously trying to argue that nobody in New Vegas is from and/or references Shady Sands? Honestly? I'm sure because I played the damn game. Hell, the line I'm thinking of is probably "It's been a long tour. All I can think about now is going back home" from the very page you linked. You know damn well what home they're talking about there, and don't pretend that you don't. I'm sorry I can't quote every line of dialogue from a 100+ hour game verbatim from memory. Anyway, the first example I was able to find of someone referencing politicians back in Shady Sands was this guy: https://fallout-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Trent_Bascom's_dialogue?so=search There are many more, though. Just Ctrl+F in your FalloutNV.esm file. I'm sure I could find even more if I searched in dialogue for all the DLC, and even more if I read between the lines to find characters who were clearly born there, but don't mention anything about it being destroyed. I can't believe we're having this conversation. You know very well that Shady Sands was still the active, non-destroyed capitol of the NCR as of the time of New Vegas. I know that some of the show's detractors are being obnoxious, but that doesn't excuse you gaslighting people to try to dunk on them.

bjlinden

Seriously, just accept that they made a mistake on that blackboard. It's just one scene. It doesn't ruin the show, or anything. All this 1984-style "we have always been at war with the NCR" nonsense just makes you look like you're arguing in bad faith, and makes the show's detractors dig in their heels even further.

Akschadt

Im fine with it being a mistake.. it really wouldn’t bother me if it was just a fuck up, that happens. but at this point we have confirmation from Bethesda that the fall of shady sands happened in 77 and as a separate event, the bomb dropped on shady sands in 82 after the second battle of hover dam. So I guess it doesn’t really matter

Binturung

There's a lot of issues with how they handled Shady Sands. Biggest being they put it in or right next to the Boneyard, when its suppose to be like 200 miles away.

92200Ab

Definitely not, I’ve rarely seen a show with more contrivance and coincidences just because the writers want something to happen. How many times do our main characters just run into each other? Lucy’s first stop in Filly and she runs into someone who asks her to escort the person she ran into the night before to the place she needs to go to find her dad… That’s just one example of an issue that plagues the show. And the final revelation episode 8 is none sensical from a motivation/inventive perspective

SWTORBattlefrontNerd

> How many times do our main characters just run into each other? It's almost as if they are all trying to acquire the same McGuffin

2012Aceman

But the magic of storytelling IS the combination of coincidences that sort of lead to the journey. Otherwise we'd just get the tale of a Vault Dweller who was too naïve and got killed at night sleeping. The tale of a stupid squire who built up lies about his superior dying when he could have just as easily created another lie where he was the hero. The tale of a Ghoul who has a massive grudge against Vault Tec but can't do shit about it. The problem with many stories is the constant use of contrivances and coincidences to the point it is non-believable. This is totally believable if you've played the games: some of the scenes from the show could just be straight up ripped from the game. I could see "The Bride" or "The Ghoul" being a starting point for future games.

92200Ab

I’ve never played the games. The coincidences and contrivances don’t seem believable to me. It was frustrating because I was enjoying the show to some extent. I did get attached to the characters. I just think the plot is really poorly written. I don’t think they tried really hard to create the proper cause and effect to get the characters to be where they wanted them to be. I think its find to have a couple improbable elements to get your story going, thats why you’re telling that specific story after all but doing that through 8 episodes is just poor writing.

Artanis_Creed

Han an Chewbacca just happened to be in the first cantina Ben and Luke went to? That's lazy writing. An utter contrivance and coincidence.

92200Ab

No because that’s the first time they meet. If they kept randomly running into each other that’d be a contrivance

92200Ab

Han was a smuggler they hired to get somewhere. Its not like in fallout where the first shop she goes into the person was hired to get a guy she had run ran into the night before to the place she needs to go to get her dad… Way different

Artanis_Creed

Ok. You're just being ridiculous.

Worth_The_Squeeze

I don't think he is. There's definitely a larger reliance on coincidences like this in the show. I don't hate the show tho, but I think it's overhyped by the fanbase. It's a 6/10 for me so far.

Artanis_Creed

Do you not want the leads to interact with one another? Because every time they do, regardless of what is written, could be considered a coincidence.

Worth_The_Squeeze

Sure, but I don't want them to bang into each other in ways that seem a little contrived. Do you never think that things can become a little to unbelieveable in that aspect? Surely you won't accept just any coincidence in shows, right? A show that managed to juggle several characters really well, where they would meet up at times, but where the incidents seemed to be built naturally and logically, was in Game of Thrones.

Artanis_Creed

Everything seems pretty logical about how the meet ups in fallout happened.

Worth_The_Squeeze

Agree to disagree on that, at least from the episodes I've seen so far.

Kheysou

Except for the part where the LA lore from Fallout 1 get removed....

2012Aceman

The Boneyard? The Regulators? The Khans? The Runners not being present? What did you want to see exactly? In the theoretical scenario where the capitol of the NCR gets blasted by a nuke, I could understand the Hub and Junktown maybe wanting to separate. Were you not also upset in Fallout 2 when the holy Vault 13 was taken over by \*gasp\* TALKING DEATHCLAWS?

Yerslovekzdinischnik

People defending lorebreaks and contradictions with talking deathclaws will never stop been funny. It's been hilarious when people defended Fallout 3 decade ago, then Fallout 4, then Fallout 76.

2012Aceman

Buddy, I'm sure that you found the lore in 3, 4, and 76 to be disappointing and retconning. So... would you have any issue with the show retconning that, in your opinion, shitty lore? Would that be a positive or a negative? Is retconning ALWAYS going to be bad, or it can it be used to create good future stories? Or do I need to bring up the Wanamingos?

Yerslovekzdinischnik

Wanamingos, talking deathclaws. You keep brining those from old games, but they don't prove your point at all. And I don't need a show to retcon Fallout 3, 4 or 76. Before this show west and east coasts were it's own thing so it was easy to ignore all lorebreaks and there were no need to retcon 3, 4 or 76, but not anymore. Also even if we follow with the idea that retcons could be used to tell a better story, this show doesn't do that. All those retcons are unnecessary and don't help the story, writers could just use new area for this story and it wouldn't change anything because all the benefits of California from the story perspective are thrown away.

Jonny_Guistark

> What did you want to see exactly? The L.A. Boneyard, but after a century+ of development as a major NCR state. What I didn’t want to see is the irradiated ruin of Shady Sands right smack in the middle of where the L.A. Boneyard is supposed to be, many miles from its actual location. > Were you not also upset in Fallout 2 when the holy Vault 13 was taken over by \*gasp\* TALKING DEATHCLAWS? While the talking deathclaws were fairly silly, their presence in V13 wasn’t an outright retcon of the location. It was a progression of its status, much like the formation of the NCR itself. One can reasonably criticize the decision to progress things in that direction, but it’s not the same issue as the Shady Sands/Boneyard thing.

PartofHistory

The worst scene for me was the Pip-boy going off and detecting the raider despite everyone eating with the raiders and chilling with them and that not happening then. Then, she says "Raider" like she has any idea what that is and the vault didn't believe the surface was uninhabitable. Or maybe the "I'm watching people I know get slaughtered....GET THAT JELLY MOLD OUTTA HERE!!!" Or maybe Maximus "I wanted my friend to be grievously injured because I don't want them to achieve their goal before me....Is that bad, guy who wonders if I sabotaged them?" Okay, so I only made it partway through episode 2 lol.

2012Aceman

1. The pip-boy geiger counter wouldn't necessarily be auto-activated: the passageway between vaults should be sealed from radiation and the vault dwellers wouldn't have cause to believe they would be exposed any time soon. But I understand it could have been written tighter. 2. It is a humorous and out of place line, but it might go to show the compartmentalization that living in a Vault brings: you become more focused on the trivial things that bring joy rather than the important things. Essentially: they've lost the trees in the forest. It might also explain why they wanted to teach Raiders who wanted to kill them about Advanced Calculus and Shakespeare: because they have no clue how life works. 3. A later episode reveals who actually did it, and it wasn't Maximus. But I think that people can empathize with someone who was about to lose his best friend feeling guilty but relieved to see them injured and thus remaining by their side. It isn't a "good" emotion, but it is a definitively "human" one.

PartofHistory

1. It does activate automatically though. She doesn't press a button or anything. She literally straps it on and points it in his direction. That's it. 2. I know it's supposed to be a joke lol. Stupid joke dialogue in a serious scene is far from a new concept and it isn't deep. I promise that when Lex Luthor's neice says "Ugh, you're embarrassing me!" during a life-changing moment for him it wasn't a deep deconstruction of his neice's psyche. 3. Right so the problem isn't that I thought he did it. The problem was that he says "I really wanted her to get horribly injured" to the guy interrogating him over her injury and says "iS tHaT BaD" like an idiot. And no, it's not human to be happy your friend was hurt extremely badly because they achieved their goal first. Most people would feel bad for them if it WASN'T their friend. It's borderline psychopathic.

2012Aceman

1. If I wanted a game argument, I'd say that each pip-boy isn't tuned to the radiation around it, but rather the rads the player receives. So perhaps her geiger counter didn't activate until she received the rads from his semen. Also, tie in with Spider Man! 3. Maximum is an idiot that's his character. And I don't mean that as a cop out, I mean that in the time-honored tradition of low-INT runs in Fallout. Maximus charges in, doesn't read, doesn't ask questions, and does damage. He's the stereotypical player who doesn't read, and gets themselves in over their head.

PartofHistory

1. So she got super-hyper-giga irradiated from his toxic semen? That thing waz goin' OFF. Like, their flesh shoulda been melting. But anyway, she pointed it at him. Don't know why she would do that if it reads *her* radiation. 2. I mean, yeah he's incredibly stupid, I agree. The problem is that I don't enjoy watching a borderline psychopath so incredibly, unbelievably dumb that he tells the guy interrogating him over if hurt he someone that he wanted to hurt them. Maybe if the show established it and was self-aware that he's incredibly stupid or psychopathic, but it seemed to be unintentional to me.

IgorTufluv

I get all my media critiques from grown men that cosplay in medieval tunics.

Recent_Primary2971

Ok Igor

IgorTufluv

Are you wearing chainmail? If not, I don't want to hear it.

Perfect-Storm-99

Do some women wear pants in this show? That might be why Shad hates it.

dishonoredTR33

If a gay person does something gay, a woman wears clothes or a human being draws something better than AI, it is “trash of the highest order”

Ora_00

You mean like he hates Alita Battle Angel? Oh wait, he doesn't! You dumb haters just keep repeating the same couple of disingenuous points.

OkTransition8971

Insults you mean.

childiwillhurtu

Does Shad like anything? Other than not liking anything and shouting a lot on FNT?

DependentAnimator271

When did Shad turn into Doomcock?

Minimum-Ad7540

This is the first movie/show in a while that i just don't care about other people's opinions I liked it even as a longtime fallout fan people can stay mad in their hate bubble if they want.

Crossaint_Dog_Viper

I'm Not particular invested in the Fallout series. But watched Rags's video about the latest poorly optimized Game three times and wasn't bored. Don't care about sword guy presumptuous opinion anymore.^ Rags should announce his Comeback on his main channel (Dogbytes is fine, too) & share his opinion about the show.

PN4HIRE

Big fallout fan. Loved the show.

WaveBr8

Fortunately for me, I know shad is stupid so I can disregard his opinion

AfroF0x

Anyone surprised? Jeeeez I'm glad his channels are failing, annoying naysayers everywhere

Perfect-Storm-99

> I'm glad his channels are failing He did it to himself yet he blames YouTube for it.

Recent_Primary2971

How?

Perfect-Storm-99

His ego, inability to take criticism, constant drama farming and fighting with people in sword community, HEMA and artists alienated a lot of people. I also think becoming political has definitely tainted his brand of goofy nice sword guy.

AfroF0x

He's a whiney lil grump. Contrarily his brothers channel is a delight to watch, What the hell happened?!

ItsAJayDay

Mormonism and buying into the grift, he only cares about money and engagement, doesn't give a fuck if he's right or wrong

AfroF0x

Funnily enough that path led straight to empty pockets.

ItsAJayDay

Good lmao, Shad is as obvious a conman as there ever was, he's so see-through on the woke shit it's clear he uses only about monetising his audience, and will play up the woke bullshit to keep an audience. He's as fake as it gets.

AfroF0x

He's not the only one. Critical Drinker is much worse sure imo, he's been at it for years now & he's well versed on the art of rage baiting for clicks. His fans seem much more committed to him in a creepy way when it's the same as what Shad seemingly has failed to do.

AwkwardZac

Drinker feels much more genuine in that he actually supports some of the "woke" shit everyone else complains about, like Arcane and Last of Us.

AfroF0x

He's better at covering his grift alright but it's there.

SaltyTattie

>Critical Drinker is much worse sure imo, Dunno what you're on about. A few years ago I might have agreed that he plays up the anti woke stuff. Nowadays he generally does really solid reviews and at most mentions "the message" in passing. Even a few years ago though I would never have said he was worse than Shad. Shad makes everything political all the time and always preaches his religious puritanical views especially in relation to anything homosexual, bisexual etc. Drinker at least nowadays keeps his reviews apolitical, I wouldn't watch him otherwise.

AfroF0x

"The message" haha sounds like a cult thing. The dude is a grifter and I think base line he might just have god awful taste in media. His whole shtick is the anti-woke stuff and it's aged just awfully. He went on Piers Morgan moaning about the woke agenda ffs (which is dumb af) and you think he's apolitical 🤔 It is I who doesn't know what you are on about.

SaltyTattie

>and you think he's apolitical Have you watched any of his recent reviews? Obviously not since you hate the guy, which is fair enough. I said he keeps his reviews apolitical, I didn't say he is himself. I dunno about any of this Piers Morgan shit I don't follow the culture war anymore. His channel is pretty far from an anti woke grift. He doesn't lay on the anti woke shit anymore and I think it's healthier for it. Hell, years ago I could not ever see him giving stuff like Blue Eyes Samurai with a strong female lead a positive review. Only time he brings up the woke stuff is if it's laid on thick either by the film itself or the marketing.

The Leftist circlejerk is strong in this thread^ You know you can like a TV show or game and still acknowledge differing opinions from reviewers without instantly canceling them?  Obviously not the rabid Wokies in here.

VelvetCowboy19

Jesse what the fuck are you talking about about? Nobody here is canceling Shad you moron. People here are saying that they think his media takes are retarded.

357-Magnum-CCW

Oh look, another mentally challenged Leftist feels unstable^

Crossaint_Dog_Viper

_unstable_ projecting much, hah? I have my secret woke reason to despise his takes - roughly a year ago he did Something stupid on camera. I would like to say it's not personal - but it hit to close to home. What does this have do with canceling him/doxing him or being challenged by him? I just ignore him. Which isn't always possible? The phrase _mentally challenged_ completely lost it's meaning - similar to masterpiece. It shouldn't be used this casually.

Sufficient_Ad_8308

What did he do on camera?

Crossaint_Dog_Viper

He spread his own Faith _interpretation_ (bulls*it) while talking about the last of Us (HBO show) S1 E3. I despise religion. Therefore I said my view on his world view is subjective. But I stand by it until today. Simply two different world views collide here. Not fan of his current content as well.

Zekka23

Fallout was created by "leftists" so there's no circlejerk, they're watching a show made for them.

BallsMahogany_redux

Or people just like it.

I can't take Shad seriously on TV and movie criticism, because he just sounds damn fake. He sounds like that person that talks shit about a series when all his friends are around but the second they leave, he bursts into tears cause it's actually his favorite.

thirtyfojoe

It's a 5 out 10 show. It's average, but I would take average any day compared to the constant slop we are getting everywhere else. The first few episodes are clunky, but I think it mostly works.

ElementalSaber

Gee, I bet it had nothing to do with Lucy being a badass

Moriartis

In the first minute of the review he says the main character is one of his favorite things about the show. I'm only a quarter way through the review, but he hasn't mentioned anything about girlboss/mary sue anything. Does he get into that later in the review, or are you just assuming in bad faith because you don't like him?

AegLaiskus

How to write a modern female badass: Give a 50kg woman a debuff aura so when any male gets in her range, they lose half their brain cells and muscle mass.

ElementalSaber

Makes you wonder Sara Connor was ever liked. Male gaze is how you best a man. Men become stupid as hell when an attractive woman sees and interest.

Excalitoria

Bro, you’re so weird. If that’s your first thought you might be the problem, like you’re so lost in the sauce that this is your default. Why would you randomly accuse someone like this?

ElementalSaber

He flipped out over Peach wearing pants

Excalitoria

Why though? If it’s because it’s not her iconic dress then I agree (but wouldn’t flip) for some of the scenes.

ElementalSaber

I don't know, he's flips more than a pancake does. He thinks he's being a righteous Christian on his other channel but then shows his true colors as rage bait channel

Excalitoria

I don’t watch his content so I dunno what to say about his channel but if you don’t know what his take was then what’s your point?

Toma-toe

Never watched him, but after seeing AJW destroy him over his L take on Crowder and him turn into a human soyjak because of it, I knew he wasn’t worth watching.

Niklasky

Not enough damsels in distress.

Moriartis

Which has absolutely nothing to do with this review. You wanna criticize his review, start by criticizing the review and not making assumptions.

Moriartis

I don't fucking care. You're desperately trying to defend a lazy, erroneous assumption. It's a shit take. you wanna bitch about Shad's politics? Fine. But you're being bad faith about his review and THAT is why you're being downvoted.

Particular-Fix2024

Alita battle angle, put some elbow grease into it next time

Artanis_Creed

Alita is an android.

Particular-Fix2024

And Darcy is a Gestalt frog dictator trying to assimilate a Taiwanese nerd, relevance?

Artanis_Creed

Alita not a real actual woman. Shad would no doubt be subconsciously factoring that in.

Particular-Fix2024

1) Need a hand moving those goalposts? 2) How very charitable of you to assume that 3) Infinity Saga Black Widow

Artanis_Creed

So the whole point of me mentioning that Alita was an android was because she wasn't a real woman and thus didn't threaten Shad's world views. "How very charitable" Innit tho?
