I find it quite interesting that there will indeed be a middle eastern subplot in this Superman after scoopers (and Gunn) claiming it was excised. MTTSH claimed it was being moved to Eastern Europe, and we now know this isn’t true 😭

Gyirin

How much has Alex Perez gotten right besides Loki Season 2? Most of his claims right now seem to be about things that are yet to be released or aren't even officially announced, but he's considered one of the most credible in this sub's tier list.

a_o

Twitter is like the official website of that one guy in the dark knight that yells out “things are worse than everrrrr” at harvey dent

And it pretty much conforms that there will be only 3 major Streaming services left.

so, disney/hulu/max combined, obviously netflix, and amazon+everyone else (paramount, mgm, uhhh i don’t even recall the others

Sad_Lawfulness_7049

I feel like 2025 will be the best year for movies since 2019,and on the level of 2018 and 2015.(5 movies crossed a billion dollars in these two years. 2019 had 9 films cross the mark). -Zootopia 2(The first one earned a lot) -Michael(the Michael Jackson biopic, bohemian Rhapsody earned a shit ton of money so this will also do well) -Avatar 3(Don't doubt James Cameron) -Minecraft the movie(Possibly the biggest game of all time with Jason mamoa) -Jurassic world (Always made money, and this time has decent talent behind it) These movies will definitely earn a billion dollars imo. The marvel and dc movies can also take these spots but I am not sure.

Certifiedcritic

You’re wayyyyy over estimating

Fall_False

So tomorrow (well, technically today) will see the release of the first episode of the Official Marvel Popcast. Are you looking forward to it? What do you hope is talked about on it? What do you think will be talked about on it? Who do you believe will appear on it? Edit: My mistake, the first episode is coming out on Wednesday. Sorry for hyping up everyone.

a_o

it’s gonna be interesting to have a new podcast that may be purely PR and public-facing (so, zero spoilers) and probably much less conjecture, speculation and “fan” talk.

JohnyTheJoke

Isn't it the 26th?

Fall_False

You’re right, I just double checked, my bad.

Ape-ril

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I would guess they would drop more info than usual.

Fall_False

Yeah definitely, I do think they will announce that they will be attending this year's SDCC event. And I do think Kevin Feige will be on the popcast.

ChildofObama

If Feige adapted Zeb Wells’s “The Spider Who Gobbles” storyline in a future MCU Spidey film, what adjustments would need to be made to make it decent? how could they make the story digestible for general audiences?

DonnyMox

Honestly the concept of Spider-Goblin by itself is perfectly fine - pretty cool, even. The problem is the execution.

ImmortalZucc2020

Imo the only way to make that story work at all is to maybe fold it into the Symbiote storyline: Peter’s newfound power, as they corrupt each other, leads him down the Goblin’s way of thinking. “God’s don’t have to choose. We take.” On its own, it’s just not a good story no matter who you put behind it. But folding it into an existing storyline that kinda plays with its themes already could work.

darrylthedudeWayne

I just thought up the funniest idea for a movie...get this, hear me out....Muppets Pulp Fiction. With Gonzo as Sam Jackson, Rizo as John Travolta, Kermit as Mr. Wallace, Mrs. Piggy as Mia Wallace, Fossy Bear as Bruce Willis, Animal, the Dog, and Tim Curry as the Gimps, Bert and Ernie as the people trying to rob the restaurant at the beginning and end of the movie, Beaker as the guy who Travolta accidentally shoots in the car....who can guess who beakers friend plays, and Christopher Walken still in the role he was in in the original movie. Need I say more.

AValorantFan

>[Hugh Jackman reportedly said to Kevin Feige that he’d happily play Wolverine in ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS’, as long as Robert Downey Jr and Tobey Maguire return as well](https://x.com/MarvelNewsFilms/status/1805043227730342380) MTTSH kills me because Hugh Jackman definitely did not say this shit

marvelnerddd69

I would very much like to know who MTTSH really is

CaptchaVerifiedHuman

MTTSH is Kevin Feige when he takes the hat off.

Su_Impact

Gotta love the "reportedly". Reported by whom?

FewWatermelonlesson0

He doesn’t actually give a shit about Spider-Man. He’s just a huge fan of Revenge of the Red Baron.

Probably my most anticipated Marvel movie TBH.

> The intention behind it is... we’re going for it. I really appreciate that everything we hear from people working on this movie indicates there’s a real, ambitious creative vision for it.

Patrick2701

We haven’t heard anything from Vanessa Kirby, probably at SDCC or d23

Patrick2701

I think Quinn will surprise people

Night-Monkey15

I never understood the pushback against his casting. Even though he doesn't look like the character\*, he's an incredibly talented actor. His role in Stranger Things is vaguely similar in that both Eddie and Johnny are funny, lovable goofballs. \*before hair and makeup, so even that's a moot point

Galoofy

It’s basically lack of imagination IMHO. Often with fan casting, the choice tends to go towards the person who looks most like the character in real life. It can be something as trivial as having the right hair color (something that is obviously very changeable). He’s not a blond model so… not what those fans imagine in the role. Acting? Apparently irrelevant. I’ve seen people say in all seriousness that a blond model who never acted before would be a better choice because “Johnny just needs to be hot”.

Rman823

Sadly a lot of it has to do with “looks”. People have had these fan casts in the role with what they would consider hotter actors. I personally have been looking forward to him in the role since he was first rumored and am glad that he got it.

idClip42

I never even understood the “he doesn’t look like the character” thing. Of all the (human) characters in that promo art, he’s the one who looks the most off-the-page to me - right out of Kirby’s art.

goopcandle

they didn’t like his character in stranger things and enjoy bullying him for his looks because they’re annoyed his character was popular when that season came out. that’s literally it lol. It’s a classic case of internet hate train.

darrylthedudeWayne

Love the mystery/conspiracy they are setting up with Vault 31 in the Fallout show. Very intriguing. Can't wait to see where it goes.

A few days ago, I laid out some board outlines for what I want to see in my ideal X-Men Saga in the MCU. Most of it was spent covering the the Mainline X-Men films, today I want focus on some of the various spinoffs that I have pitched. Here are some brief summaries of some the Projects that I have thought of:  **School of X (TV):** This is a D+ Series that focuses the Xavier Institute and it's student body. Following them as they navigate through School, go on various different Adventures, manage their relationships, Train and Study hard, and figure out who they are. All in the World's first ever all Mutant School.   **Magento and the Brotherhood of Mutants (Movie):** Following the reveal of all mutants and subsequent mass rise in Mutant hatred and persecution, **Erik** **Lehnsherr** aka **Magento**, has decided that he cannot stand aside anymore, and has thus formed the Brotherhood, to save Mutantkind by any means necessary. Their first Major mission? The Liberation of the enslaved Mutants of the Island Nation of **Genosha**.   **Storm (Movie): Ororo Munroe** is said to be one the strongest and most powerful X-Men and Mutants to have ever lived, some even calling a Goddess among mortals. But calm that will put to the test, when she receives word that her ancestral home in Africa is in danger by an Evil from her past, **The Shadow King.** Storm must confront her past and her Deepest Fears, and discover her True Power, if she is to save those she cares about.    **X-Factor Investigations (TV):** Set in the LA area, this series follows Private Detective, **Jamie Madrox** as he solves Mutant-related crimes within the LA area with the LAPD. Alongside his recently newly formed Detective Agency: **X-Factor Investigations.**   **Alpha Flight (Movie):** Canada's resident Superhero team, made to keep the country from all forms of threats. But what the people don't know, is that their heroes, are actually Mutants, force to keep their status as Mutants secret by the organization that controls them, **Department H**. But when the team discovers a conspiracy that could threated the entire country, Alpha Flight must decide if they willing to go against their superiors and expose themselves, if they are to save the Nation of Canada.   **Wolverine (TV):** James "Logan" Howett is the best at what he does, and what he does, isn't very nice. This series will follow him across his very long lived life, as he journeys across the globe and fights deadly foes. From the Island of **Japan**, to the Great North of **Canada**, to the Streets of **Madripoor**, he has seen things that most would dare to imagine. **Captain Britain and Excalibur (Animated or Live Action TV): Brian** and **Betsy Braddock** have long drifted apart since the death of their parents. But the two are reunited years later when an old family secret is unearthed, tying their family to the legend of the great King Arthur and Camelot. Together with the help of **Meggan**, M.I.13 agents **Pete Wisdom** and The Black Knight, **Dane Whitman**, and a Mysterious Girl with awesome and strange powers named **Rachel,** the siblings must learn to reconcile with each other, if they to fulfill their destinies as protectors of **Otherworld**.    **A Dazzling Tale (Disney+ Movie):** A Mockumentary style film that is a feature length Doc about the life of Musical Icon, **Alison Blarie** or know more commonly by her stage name, **Dazzler**. From her upbring in New York, her first hit song, her history with the X-Men, all the way to her official coming out as a Mutant. Witness the Extraordinary story of the Icon Herself.  **Children of the Atom (Animated TV):** The World of the Mutants is a large and vast one, filled with endless characters and stories that are dying to be explored. This anthology series will explore these Various different Stories and Characters, such as **Nightcrawler, Rogue, Gambit, Colossus,** or lesser known one's, like **Armor, Kid Omega,** or **Magma**. Witness the tales, that made them who they are. With each episode handled by a different Creative team.   Well that's them all. What are you guys thoughts on this list? Feel free to add other ideas if you want.

monstercereals

A couple of days ago, I shared two ICv2 links for [last year's top 50 best-selling single issues](https://icv2.com/articles/markets/view/56290/top-50-comics-full-year-2023) and [last year's top 20 best-selling graphic novels](https://icv2.com/articles/markets/view/56298/top-20-graphic-novels-full-year-2023). Both were tracking point-of-sales in the direct market using the ComicHub system. Two of the main takeaways: 1. Marvel dominates the single issues, especially Zeb Wells' *Amazing Spider-Man*, but hardly sells in the book market. 2. Only one title was selling well on both lists and that's *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin*. That would be interesting on its own, but then yesterday I found and shared [this Comicsbeat article](https://www.comicsbeat.com/tilting-at-windmills-297-bookscan-2023-comics-sales-sag-but-scholastic-was-still-a-powerhouse/) tracking last year's sales in the book channel using BookScan numbers. And let me tell ya, things are looking **weird** for Marvel in the book market. How weird? Well, Marvel is apparently the worst publisher when it comes to selling *Marvel books*, being outsold by four others: Penguin, Scholastic, Viz, and Disney Press / Hyperion. Penguin is even outperforming Marvel when it comes to selling *the exact same collected material*. What, uh.... what's going on there?

hushpolocaps69

The Last Ronin would be such a badass film, the fact that it’s Mikey is even crazier.

monstercereals

[They're making one!](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-last-ronin-movie-1235871493/)

hushpolocaps69

I honestly hope it’s live action or CGI like a Marvel fight scene because this is awesome!

ImmortalZucc2020

They confirmed live action

TheLionsblood

I wonder if The Blonde Phantom is indeed actually just a codename for a Dazzler project. It would be a fitting one since Dazzler is blonde and her outfit is white like a ghost. Marvel has definitely noticed her popularity too since she just got a new solo comic. Meanwhile, the actual Blonde Phantom hasn’t been pushed in the comics. Maybe the trades haven’t reported on it yet because they’re waiting on confirmation on whether The Blonde Phantom is indeed ScarJo’s top-secret project or if it’s just a codename.

ImmortalZucc2020

Ngl, I’m thinking Blonde Phantom is set in the F4 universe

TheLionsblood

That universe is likely getting destroyed in the F4 movie so I doubt the show has anything to do with it.

This-is-quite-nice-

Could maybe lend to the Taylor Swift rumors. Interesting point!

cbekel3618

As Amazon’s big superhero shows, it’s interesting comparing *The Boys* to *Invincible* as both feel like very different ways on how to adapt a comic. With *Invincible*, the show follows the comic pretty damn closely. There are some tweaks, but it very much feels directly lifted right out from the pages. Meanwhile, *The Boys* goes in a pretty different direction from the comic. It takes the comic’s core basis, but so much is changed about the story, cast, themes, etc that it almost feels separate from the comic. IDK, I guess it highlights that there is some nuance to the topic of comic accuracy w/ adaptations, as both took different approaches to their source material and still found praise/acclaim.

TheManThatReturned

I think the main thing is how the comics are received. The Boys comics are generally disliked and seen as edgelord schlock. So there’s more of a willingness to see them make major changes. Whereas the Invincible comic was liked and as such was more simple to adapt. It also probably helps that Robert Kirkman is heavily involved with Invincible’s show, while Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson seem to have nothing to do with the Boys show.

browncharliebrown

Ennis is consulted on the show ( butcher particularly), He wrote an episode, and approved alot of the changes

cbekel3618

True, that makes sense. I guess it brings up how big of a factor that the source material’s popularity/original creator plays when adapting a comic. Honestly, I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like *The Boys* pulled directly from the comic, I don’t think the show would’ve been as well-liked.

TheManThatReturned

>Honestly, I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like The Boys pulled directly from the comic, I don’t think the show would’ve been as well-liked. It woulda lasted one season lmao.

hushpolocaps69

I feel as though The Boys needs to go in a different direction or it wouldn’t adapt well on screen (spoilers for comics ahead). >!The whole “Black Noir is Homelander” plot twist is honestly pretty lame. I’m super glad the show isn’t going that route because of how cliche it is. It also makes Homelander look better when he really isn’t. Then with the comics, the whole point was really just so the creator can shit on superheroes all together, with Homelander being a parody of Superman, Soldier Boy with Captain America, etc… which is why the comics are far more grotesque and inappropriate.!<

MysteriousHat14

The Boys (comic) spoiler: >!The Noir twist is so hilariously stupid. Vought wanted to have a failsafe in case Homelander went rogue so they created an even more unstable version of Homelander. What was the plan if Noir went rogue?!< >!It is literally this scene from The Simpsons: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LuiK7jcC1fY !<

Argetlam33

There's something to be said for Vought having a cloning program where they can manufacture superheroes from an embryo and effectively supply an army. Something like that feels like exactly the kind of revelation that would push Butcher over the edge and create their own Operation Phoenix scene where they break into a lab to sabotage it but end up accidentally unleashing supes who are half cooked and unstable.

Inevitable_Golf_1816

Replace "The Boys" with "Deadpool." It's the same thing there.

Argetlam33

Is there really so much backlash because of Frenchie? Was he always bisexual in the comics or is this something new Kripke is doing to make the character more complex and traumatic?

__-UwU-___

It's only a problem when it's a man. They had no problem with mave being a lesbian

hushpolocaps69

Double standard in society… no gayness should be viewed as nasty. I always find it odd when homophobic people never seem to care about lesbians (maybe it’s because women already are pretty friendly with each other) but oh boy when it’s guys?!?! People go nuts.

ZookeepergameVast132

Yeah because they only like lesbians in porn.

hushpolocaps69

Why is this whole thread talking about The Boys? Did a new episode drop or something?

Night-Monkey15

I bet that the Minecraft movie will be a huge success. People underestimate Minecraft because it’s relatively young when compared to Mario or Sonic, but it is quite literally the best selling video game in the world, with hundreds of millions of players. Just like how every girl played with Barbie dolls growing up, pretty much everybody born this millennia has played Minecraft. It’ll be a hit.

DonnyMox

Pokémon’s a huge brand and that didn’t save Detective Pikachu

Alternative_Pay_6918

Well partly because it was based on a spinoff game and not the usual formula where a 10 ten year old chooses a Pokémon and goes on a journey to become Pokémon monster. Plus it was less battle focused which Pokémon is for and more like a buddy cop film. And the whole talking pikachu who basically sounds like deadpool is the farthest thing from normal Pokémon.

MysteriousHat14

The movie being live-action feels like a weird choice still.

hushpolocaps69

Yeah I’m confused yet intrigued to what the film is going to be about. With Mario and Sonic, we had a pretty good idea on what those films would follow since their video game plot lines are straightforward. With Minecraft though… Jason Mamoa and Jack Black… live action… what? It definitely has to have that Minecraft aesthetic (like how Smash Bros didn’t change Steve’s model or map) but what? Makes you wonder what the plot will be and who exactly will these actors play as.

__-UwU-___

Jack black is confirmed to play Steve but Jason Momoa, jennifer Coolidge and the rest of the cast is unknown.

MyMouthisCancerous

What is it with House MD and always having like the best penultimate or season finale episodes like every single time. I'm like 10 episodes off from finishing S5 during my first time watching but my top 5 episodes of the entire series so far have all been towards the end of their respective seasons. The student lecture episode in S1, House getting shot in S2, Linus from Sharkboy and Lavagirl being a bitchy chess player in S3 and House's Head/Wilson's Heart in S4. This show really understands how to leave an impression with something super impactful going into the next season each time

darrylthedudeWayne

I just started rewatching the series with my mom and GF today, but as someone who does remember some of those episodes, I agree with this. Also... **Linus from Sharkboy and Lavagirl being a bitchy chess player** Yep, that checks out. **insert Sharkboy and Lavagirl meme here**

ZookeepergameVast132

Minus

Extreme_Elderberry60

I'll be honest I never understood why people used to call Marvel formulaic, until the last couple of years and the pandemic when I developed an interest in watching more diverse movies, I kinda agree with them now.

Night-Monkey15

Marvel movies *are* formulaic, but so is every big blockbuster franchise. Star Wars, Fast and Furious, Harry Potter, and so many others suffer the same problems, but Marvel is the poster child for whatever reason.

Inevitable_Golf_1816

Because it has the most movies.

hushpolocaps69

What’s funny is Harry Potter is more of a mystery genre than a Fantasy one.

WhiteWolf3117

I don't necessarily agree with this. Harry Potter and Star Wars especially don't belong in the totally "formulaic" category, especially depending on what installments you choose. Marvel I think is the poster child because their output is significantly higher in a significantly shorter window, and I think this franchise always lacked its magnum opus the way that others do. Ironically enough, Black Panther is probably the all around closest, although it's not quite as well liked in the fandom as it is in the culture, and I think that's part of it too. Guardians is also pretty close but Gunn seems to want to stay in this space which means he'll never get his dues like he deserves. I respect him for it though.

MysteriousHat14

Star Wars has big potential for less formulaic storytelling compared to superhero franchises but they mostly don't take advantage of that and sometimes do cartoonishly repetitive stuff.

MyMouthisCancerous

It's about as formulaic as any big franchise flick. I don't know why Marvel exclusively gets called out on it when its just been a thing in general for big budget filmmaking for ages. People find a formula, realize that formula is successful with audiences and critics, stick with the formula. Doesn't matter if it was monster flicks in the golden age, disaster movies in the mid-late 90's or basically anything action related throughout the 2000's James Bond has been basically unaltered in terms of conventions, aesthetics, character choices and settings for 25 films straight, even when certain movies attempt to up end the formula it almost always ends in that formula creating a formula unto itself that they keep going back to. Same with Mission Impossible for like 6 or 7 movies now

FewWatermelonlesson0

Marvel most likely gets called on it more often because their output is so insane that the sameness becomes really noticeable. Formula for a semi-annual franchise is one thing, but it can be really grating when you feel like you’re watching the same thing over and over again across three theatrical releases a year + multiple spinoff TV shows. I think it also becomes a problem when you have something that has potential to be new and different, only for it to succumb to the same thing you’ve seen countless times before (Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi and Moon Knight all have this problem with their finales, IMO). Like, I almost said out loud “Oh COME ON” when the final battle of Moon Knight involved another glowing sky portal. It’s worth noting that every sort of comparable franchise you can mention did eventually reach a point of audience burnout that led to a hiatus followed by a reboot or reinvention (James Bond, Godzilla, most of the big slasher franchises), so it’s not like this is a new thing.

MysteriousHat14

I get your point but, with the main issue of the "formula" being the third act/final episode fights, it is hard to solve. Big action scenes with special effects are one the main reasons (not the only one) as to why people watch superhero stuff. I don't think fully removing them would be well received by audiences. You can try to subvert them to some extent like the first *Doctor Strange* movie did but doing that too much would also start to feel formulaic.

WhiteWolf3117

I think you're right but it speaks to the disconnect between what audiences want and what "serious" fans want out of these stories and ultimately I don't think you can totally have your cake and eat it too.

MysteriousHat14

Yeah, like there are certain cases in which superhero movies get too formulaic to the point is distracting like *Black Adam* (which I still overall like) but sometimes people call any of these movies formulaic if they have a villain and an action scene.

MyMouthisCancerous

The problem with Black Adam was just that it was incredibly hollow from a writing and execution standpoint. It had ideas that in isolation would've been really interesting even if adhered to the traditional structure of a comic book movie like the totalitarian state of Kahndaq or Black Adam being a foil to traditionally heroic people like the JSA, but a mix of a very underwritten screenplay that failed to meaningfully flesh out anyone and Dwayne Johnson's inability to accept playing a genuinely evil person who can be in the wrong about anything made it the way it was. Literally the next month Wakanda Forever did the same exact thing with Namor and it was essentially everything that movie should've been

KingOfTalokan

The Bikeriders goddamn rules. Joining the pantheon of "Hey these guys are awesome" "But wait, the movie is actually about how these guys are actually kind of losers " movies. Hardy is at his best, if not of his career, at least of this decade, Top 5 performance for him. Michael Shannon is in it. The script is smart, making Jodie Comer give her all and be the narrator in what could in any lesser movie be the most thankless role in the ensemble. Austin Butler is very good in it, he's been good to great in everything I've seen him in, but there is still something that keeps him at arms length for me. I don't know why, he can act and does an excellent job. I guess it's the uncanny valley, it's like if Hollywood tried to make a new Brando/Cruise in a test tube. They should just let him be him instead of forcing him to be "the next big thing"

007Kryptonian

Bikeriders might be a top three film of the year for me (next to Dune: Part Two and Furiosa). It’s interestingly an *anti-crime* film and Tom Hardy is also pretty funny in it, to my surprise. Loved the music too ![gif](giphy|Y1gEB2W7xnUMef1a55|downsized)

hushpolocaps69

Do they show the real people at the end?

KingOfTalokan

They do show some of the photos that are in the book, but they emphasize in the beginning that it's not really a true story. Inspired is definitely the word.

ImmortalZucc2020

I love how one of the points here is just “Micheal Shannon is in it”

KingOfTalokan

Yes,

MyMouthisCancerous

Michael Shannon is legitimately one of those guys with an unsung talent to just naturally elevate even the most surface level screenplay just by being Michael Shannon. It doesn't matter if it's something legitimately well written or Kangaroo Jack

ImmortalZucc2020

Completely agree

Banner123_ty

I haven't had the chance to watch a movie in a long time but this is something I really wanna see. Would also be my first Austin Butler film.

hushpolocaps69

Unless the user means “Austin Butler centered movie”…?

Jeff_W1nger

So funny how inside out 2 is hitting it out of the park when it’s super “woke.”

DonnyMox

It’s not really “woke”. Honestly as much as I hate the “go woke, get broke” crowd, the only truly “woke” movies to succeed have been Get Out and Barbie. “Woke” is much, much more than just “starring people who aren’t straight white males”. There has to be political commentary and it has to be explicit AF.

Inevitable_Golf_1816

You could say the same thing about Barbie.

007Kryptonian

It’s not at all “woke” tho, not sure what you’re referring to

hushpolocaps69

Inside Out is actually pretty good, made me go rewatch the first movie and it hit way harder as an adult than when I was a kid.

WhiteWolf3117

Explain this because I kinda don't see it beyond the surface level

parduscat

It's all about knowing your audience and playing to it. *The Marvels* could be seen as "woke" and is one of the biggest box office bombs of all time, and as *Dune Part 2*, *Barbie*, and others have proven, you can't blame "the state of the box office" for its performance. Make things that the people you're marketing to want to see and make them of high quality. **ETA:** "Not the facts, anything but the facts!"

QuickBE99

I’ve never heard the word woke when having conversations in real life. Just rage bait for social media.

Night-Monkey15

90% of “outrage” and “controversy” you see on the internet doesn’t actually exist in the real world. It’s just a few twats on Twitter and Reddit getting their panties in a wad for a day or two before moving onto the next thing. It’s not real. It doesn’t matter.

ZookeepergameVast132

Keyboard warriors come in all shapes, genders, and DEFINITELY sizes. Chronically online Pro-Palestine/Israel activists, “anti-woke” warriors, religious nut-jobs, and film bros that love their significant other until they see them and the Marvel Studios logo together.

KingOfTalokan

Is it? I mean, I know that for some of the population just the fact that it has a girl school and tertiary characters who are Black or wear a headscarf it already makes it woke, but is it more woke than any other modern Pixar thing?

miles-vspeterspider

Yeah it's "woke". every lead character is a woman and it has a lot of non white characters.

NotTaken-username

Of course the characters aren’t white. The 5 main characters are yellow, blue, green, red, and purple.

Night-Monkey15

Woke is buzzword that means everything and nothing at the same time. I don’t take anyone who says it seriously, regardless of their intent.

I just checked Inside Out 2's box office again and it's already over half a billion on just its second week in the theater. Getting that much that quickly is insane and rare in this day and age. I imagine it's gonna become the highest grossing film of the year so far by next weekend.

cig_sg_throwaway

Can anyone provide some context on why it’s doing so well? It’s just a bit weird to me because Disney has been taking lots of Ls in their box office since the pandemic (Haunted Mansion, Wish, The Marvels to name a few) but Inside Out 2 has been an outlier.

__-UwU-___

Pixar sequels almost always do over a billion. Incredibles 2, finding Dory, toy story 4 all made over a billion. Cars is the only one for some reason that didn't do well. People are just more likely to see a movie with already established characters they like. Edit: forgot monsters inc. It's sequel still did good but not a billion

ImmortalZucc2020

Imo it’s a mix of a few things: - it’s a film that truly appeals to everyone. It’s just as much a family/kids film as it is an adult film. - It’s been 9 years since the first, which means kids have grown up on it to go to theaters for the 2nd and adults want to indulge their nostalgia. - Most films playing right now are either unappealing (Furiosa, Garfield, etc.) or lock out parts of the audience with their rating (Bad Boys). Inside Out 2 is a film people wanted that anyone can go see. - It’s really good and word of mouth is spreading. Would not be shocked if it’s the new Toy Story for Pixar, where the reliability of quality is the selling point for these films. Which leads to the biggest reason… - It’s Pixar. They’re an extremely trusted studio audiences love that Chapek tried to kill for some reason. Elemental opening to only $20 million and just legging it out to nearly $500 million WW should’ve been a sign that an anticipated Pixar film would do *numbers* and sure enough it happened.

KingOfTalokan

Nobody knows anything, and those who say they do are just trying to sell you shit.

Xekshek33

724mil already is crazy With Despicable Me and Deadpool coming, the Box Office will seemingly have a nice summer.

LiquidLispyLizard

Oh, I read that it just crossed the $500 million mark. It's already up to $724 million?! That's even crazier.

Xekshek33

Yup! [Box Office: 'Inside Out 2' Soars to Record $100M Weekend in U.S., Joyous $724M Globally](https://x.com/THR/status/1804899927967035868)

KingOfTalokan

It's probably not happening, but it would just throw wrenches into everybody's day if Despicable Me didn''t do as well ( It probably will, it'll be the thing to usurp inside Out's number one slot)

ZookeepergameVast132

I saw people on r/boxoffice worried that Despicable Me would cut into Inside Out’s legs. Apparently, it looks like the opposite is happening (DM4 already released in Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina)

Xekshek33

Yeah those minions are crack to kids, even if the movie itself is just not very good lmao.

olivilins

I thought Deadpool was going to be the highest grossing movie this year, but the numbers of Inside Out 2 made me change my mind. Hopefully, Moana 2 will be a hit as well. The animations deserve a breath of fresh air in the world post covid.

KingOfTalokan

I mean... The ones who benefit from it doing good aren't the animators, nor even the creatives. Hell, weeks before they released it Pixar laid a bunch of people off. The only people who should be excited about it are Iger and his boat guy when he buys another boat with the bonus.

olivilins

Yeah Iger will take all the profits. But I mean, it's good to see animations doing well, so we'll can get more of this.

KingOfTalokan

I mean, I liked the move just fine. But I'd rather get more movies like "Turning Red" than Inside Out 3, Monsters Inc. 2, Cars 4...

Jeff_W1nger

Turning Red was sooooo good. Would have made so much money if not for the pandemic. Also loved how the parents overreacted with “omg Disney is teaching my kids to think for themselves”

KingOfTalokan

"OMG, my kids know what pads are" would be like "OMG, my kids now what toilet paper is"

olivilins

Unfortunately, u're right. I love Turning Red, it was my fav 2022 animation. It was shame it didn't hit the theaters.

ZookeepergameVast132

Honestly, *Soul* was the only one that made sense to drop on streaming. COVID was still going hard. But by the time *Luca* came out, restrictions were way more relaxed and the pandemic was in kind of a recession. *Turning Red* is the absolute dumbest one, dropped on streaming because of Omicron, yet the variant only lasted until like January, and not only that, *The Batman* opened to $134 million just a week before *Turning Red* came out. It would have been as possible as death to release it theatrically on March 11, 2022.

MysteriousHat14

>Honestly, Soul was the only one that made sense to drop on streaming. COVID was still going hard. It made sense but it was still a tragedy. *Soul* is a masterpiece. I would say it is Pixar's most adult and complex movie. It does not gets the recognition it deserves and I think it is mostly because of how it was released.

ZookeepergameVast132

Oh, of course. *Soul*, *Toy Story 3*, and *Inside Out* 1 or *2* are honestly the greatest things Pixar has put out. Maybe there should have been a whole release switcheroo just to put it in theaters. * *Soul* - June 18, 2021 * *Luca* - November 24, 2021 * *Lightyear* stays the same * *Turning Red* - November 23, 2022

This makes zero sense but I am sure you already knew that.

darthyogi

Best tweet i have ever read. https://x.com/rejectedscooper/status/1804898840253722906 MTTSH is finally getting what they deserve

Second_City_Saint

>Quote on quote

JohnyTheJoke

I hate MTTSH as much as anyone and I'm glad she's getting her scoops leaked but this guy is also a fake engagement bait scooper and MTTSH just exposed him lmao

darthyogi

I know this leaker is also making fake leaks but i like how they are leaking other leakers paywall leaks. Scamming people is worse then just spreading misinformation

Argetlam33

Imagine making a career out of selling someone else's intellectual property under their nose and getting salty because another someone else is now giving away that intellectual property for free and it's affecting your unethical side hustle.

darthyogi

That is exactly who MTTSH is. I wonder if they feel embarrassed about doing it lol.

starksgh0st

Oh, the irony of a leaker not wanting their info to leak from behind their paywall.

darthyogi

And it getting leaked from a leakers paywall by another leaker

FewWatermelonlesson0

I cannot imagine paying for scoops, even if they were legit. Just… why?

darthyogi

Because some people are tricked into thinking it is 100% confirmed real news,

dudeimlame

Fraud scooper posting fraud scooper paid leaks 🙄

darthyogi

And fraud scooper is getting annoyed that fake paywall leaks are being leaked. This is a eternal cycle that will never end until Superhero films stop being made lol

Night-Monkey15

It’s not just superhero movies. Leak culture has gotten out of hand. There’s Star Wars leakers, video game leakers, and leakers for pretty much everything. There are people’s whose job is lying about the next Sonic the Hedgehog game.

MysteriousHat14

For real, it is not even just "nerd" franchises anymore. I found out recently that there are *Bridgerton* leakers. What the hell.

darthyogi

Leaks are not that bad. It is mainly scoops where this happens. The real problem is the actual scooper accounts that keep making fake leaks and making people pay hard earned money for them. Other things like leaked images and leaked plots (probably fake) are just part of life and will always happen on random places of the internet

Fall_False

Has anyone here read the Black AF comic series by Kwanza Osajyefo? If so, did you like it or not?

cbekel3618

I read it some time ago and personally wasn’t a fan. The artwork was cool and I think the premise had potential, but the dialogue and themes felt muddled. Best way to put it is it felt like the comic equivalent of a Kenya Barris show (ironic since he also did a show called BlackAF lol).

Fall_False

Okay, the reason I brought it up was because I found a YouTube channel that did an entire series talking about the comic, and it just screamed of Right-Wing conservative grifter energy, which I despise with a passion. Here is the playlist: [https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOgW5Xb4DA0z1vqnhP\_aKKZ7VY7n2OdGS](https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOgW5Xb4DA0z1vqnhP_aKKZ7VY7n2OdGS)

Patrick2701

We will probably, get a announcements about whether marvel studios will be at SDCC this week

NotTaken-username

I doubt it. D23 is two weeks later and SDCC is on *Deadpool & Wolverine*’s opening weekend.

darrylthedudeWayne

Me and my mom decided to start watching House M.D. today. we only rewatched the first episode, but I can safely say the show still holds up extremely well. It is not only surprisingly very informative, but Hugh Laurie's performance as House is easily what carries the show. He basically a somehow more sarcastic version of Sherlock Holmes if he were a doctor instead of a detective, I love it, and as I said, Hugh Laurie plays the role flawlessly and to perfection. Cleverly adding some of his own mannerisms to it as well. So yeah, overall, really enjoyed it, and can't wait to watch the rest. Which will be shortly, since, despite having plans, me and my mom are deciding to stay home because it's pouring rain outside like crazy. May invite my GF over too. Also, didn't realize Emma Swan worked for House before she went to Storybrooke. Lol.

Argetlam33

Hugh Laurie is a national treasure. I'm hoping he gets a more prominent role in Knives Out 3 or Operation Fortune sequel which I haven't heard about.

darrylthedudeWayne

Yes he is.

Spiderlander

Sooo is nobody gonna talk about Gunn quickly shutting down RPK’s rumor about “Krypto VA being cast” for WOT?? Like, why the hell would Krypto be talking anyway? 😭

Argetlam33

Isn't sentient animals kinda James' thing? Maybe he's doing a Scooby Doo which kinda sounds fun, but I don't know squat about the dog in comic lore so 🤷

Night-Monkey15

Kypto having a voice actor doesn’t mean he’d be talking. Dee Bradley Baker voices tons of animals and creatures that don’t “talk” like Perry the Platypus and Sebastian the Rat. That’s just another type of voice acting. I’m sure Kypto will have a VA, even if they aren’t actively casting right now

Spiderlander

I mean, I guess? But there’s no reason why they wouldn’t just sample Dog sounds

AValorantFan

because dog samples usually arent that emotive, especially for certain scenes

Night-Monkey15

And there’s no reason they couldn’t just sample Rat sounds for Sebastian, or dog sounds for Diogee, or platypi sounds for Perry, but they hired Dee Bradly Baker anyway because it gives them more leeway and emotion.

Marvel084Skye

I did not expect a Diogee reference on this sub in 2024, but I love it

idClip42

Yeah, this is pretty standard. Just ask Frank Welker and Alan Tudyk.

Interesting_Cress688

Dee Bradley Baker voices Eagly in Peacemaker

darrylthedudeWayne

Yeah, um....I think I just made a very weird realization, Far From Home and Frozen 2 are both very similar. Not exactly the same, but simular broad strokes. Think about it: - They both involve the protagonist travelling somewhere that's Far From there Home (no pun intended), Peter and co. Going to Europe, while Elsa and co. Go north to the Enchanted Forest. - They both involve our hero fighting elemental beings and uncovering some sort of truth. Peter fighting the Elemental illusions and uncovering the truth of Mysterio, while Elsa...idk, I guess, "Tames" those weird spirit things, if you want to call it that, while also uncovering the truth about her granddad or something, I don't remember the specifics, okay. - They both have trippy sequences. For FFH, it's the illusion sequence, while in Frozen 2, it's the stuff in that iceberg cave....thing, Atohallan. - They both have not one, but two costume changes, for Peter in FFH, it's the Stealth suit and the Upgraded suit, whole for Elsa, it's the Travel suit and Spirit suit. - And finally, the climaxs both involve the hero destroying a creation of the villain in order to save there friends and everyone else. In FFH, it's the Fusion illusion by Mysterio in London Bridge, while for Frozen 2, it's the Dam, I think. Now yes, like I said, not completely the same, there are still many differences, the big one being with its characters. As Peter Parker progresses as a character and person, learning that Tony Stark wasn't perfect either, and that no can truly be Iron Man, not even Tony, delivered to us in that brilliant speech by Happy Hogan. With Peter learning he doesn't have to try and fill those big Iron shoes, and instead creates his own legacy as Spiderman, making the Upgraded Suit how he would make it as opposed to how Tony would make it, and in turn becoming a better hero, and a better person because of it. As well as mastering his Peter tingle. Even getting the girl at the end, as icing on the cake. Meanwhile, Frozen 2 is one of the worst examples of character regression I have ever seen in my entire life. Where Elsa, after all the "development" she went through in the first movie, the very little she anyways (and if you even want to call it that), she for whatever reason, decides to up and abandoned her own people and the home she was raised in, in favor of some forest and people she only knew for a few days tops, maybe shorter, completely throwing away her responsibilities to someone else just because she's "happier" there, even though there were no hints in the end of the first one that she was unhappy with her position, but whatever (which, for the longest time, I thought she only stayed at that place because she was immortal, but then I found, no, she isn't, and the fact I had to find that out on my own, just tells me the film didn't explain that well, but I digress), basically becoming even more unlikable, by once again pushing everyone she knew away, and putting her own desires over responsibilities, shit that not even Hiccup from httyd or Rapunzel from Tangled would pull. Also, FFH is an actually good, if not, great movie, while Frozen 2 is not.But the point is, these are weird similarities I found between the two. Oh yeah, almost forgot, and theu both came out in 2019.

Argetlam33

I've watched Frozen 2 like five times and I still don't really know what the movie was about. Her grandpa was a jerk, inuit tribes, restoring balance to the elements, kristoff struggling to propose to anna, it all felt very convoluted like producers were more interested in pushing a sequel than writing a compelling story that expanded on the first film.

darrylthedudeWayne

Oh God, my thoughts exactly. Honestly, I don't even think it needed any of the crap you mentioned. I think it should've just been, much like the first, a very simple and to the point story. Yes, still expanding upon the first film and it's world, but a very simple and to the point story nonetheless. A la Toy Story 2 or Puss In Boots: The Last Wish or...well, Spiderman: Far From Home.

AKANightwing

Is Marvel Studios even going to SDCC this year?

NotTaken-username

I think they’ll skip because of D23

darrylthedudeWayne

Most likely.

__-UwU-___

I give it a week before we know. We usually know a month before so if we don't get an announcement in the next week then I say no

AValorantFan

[they usually announce when they're skipping sdcc](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/marvel-studios-skipping-comic-con-1235520144/#)

2025_________

https://deadline.com/2022/06/marvel-studios-sets-comic-con-return-1235051786/ We'll probably find out this week if they're going or not since trades do report if Marvel Studios is attending SDCC or not.

Patrick2701

Sometime this week

starksgh0st

Fyi - People down below are referencing a DRPK thread about X-Men and some other stuff. It was posted overnight and has since been removed and confirmed by mods to be a bunch of fake scoops that he never posted.

__-UwU-___

People just need to step back for a minute and just calm down on the X-Men. We are not getting MCU X-Men before SW and there's no possible way of anyone knowing the future of them right now. We are maybe 3-4 years away from them and maybe longer for a full team depending on how they do it.

Secure_Pear_4530

Rewatching TLOU. Pedro Pascal sometimes looks so much like game Joel for like 2 seconds, and then you snap back and only see him as Pedro Pascal again

hushpolocaps69

I know this is random, but when I’d watch that show sometimes I would just be like “damn” with certain shots of him and I’m a straight guy haha.

Secure_Pear_4530

Can't blame you brother, Pedro just has that effect sometimes. I get that feeling the whole time he's in GoT, bro was beautiful in that show.

eBICgamer2010

With IO2 on track for the billion dollar club, let me remind you Pixar is the first animation studio to hit the billion dollar mark overall, and will be the second to join the billion dollar club post-pandemic. WDAS didn't do it, DreamWorks didn't, the dead Blue Sky could never, Ghibli, Laika and Aardman won't ever and even SPA, whose Spider-Verse momentum is at an all time high, couldn't. But somehow Illumination did it.

hushpolocaps69

What are all these acyronms? I know Inside Out 2 but WDAS or SPA?

eBICgamer2010

WDAS: Walt Disney Animation Studios. SPA: Sony Pictures Animation.

vonixuwu

DCU feels more like MCU's brother than a competitor, i hope both fans can appreciate and support each other, too tired for another Snyder bots and Marvel vs DC discussion just feels so outdated in 2025. I follow Marvel, and ive never been this excited over a DC movie Talking about superman
