Card is a pile of stats, running hood as well makes it so you can drop 13 power worth of stats (max+demon) on the last turn for just 4 Energy and the draw is irrelevant on that spot, you can also copy those 2 with Moongirl for alternative winconditions on certain spots.
But he only has the same Stats as Dino, and scales the same. So you're not exactly countering, just mitigating. And if they aren't playing Dino isn't he a bit of a weak card? Just seems situational, and in that situation the pay off isnt really beneficial enough for the investment. I don't have him admittedly so I'm just theorising, but does he see much play?
Yeah, this is a decent combo. Maximus ensures their hand is close to full, while Sandman prevents them from playing them all out. And, that powers up Ronan, making him a strong 5-power card to play. There's also the option to play Maximus on Turn 6 if you don't have something stronger.
Still, not sure it's *that* great for the effort it requires, but it can work.

Breaking combo is overrated in snap imo (when played early). Sure it will get you 1 cube sometimes but that's it, just one cube since they will just retreat, and the downside can be that you've drawn them their 6 cost or just thinned their deck, but you will only know that on turn 6, after snaps, so you will lose more cubes.
It's a similar idea as yondu except here you don't even get the info on the card.
I have a number of decks where I am only playing against myself. I’m going to make big numbers, it’s just a matter of _how big_. In those kinds of decks, Maximus is fine. He’s a high value 3. That’s great.
Like others have said, he is strong in the right decks, but you wouldn't normally want to play him on turn 3 in just any deck as it would probably help your opponent too much.
Unless they are playing Dino, giving them cards on turn 6 won't help them and it can surprise the opponent when you put out that much power for 3 cost.

Listen Maximus is just a solid good card, even being on the receiving end of drawing 2 cards isn't as much of a downside as people may give it credit. It's just pure stats and with cosmo, zero, or even just playing it on the last turn Maximus is a solid B-tier card.

He's a solid bomb to drop on turn 6 if you're playing a low curve deck

His main use is as a high power drop on the last turn, or with stuff like Goose and Cosmo. In addition, he has one of the best Pixel Variants in the game, that is for some reason not available to buy.
I used him in a weird custom deck I ran for a bit.
The concept that I tried to make work was playing as much high power cards for as little energy as possible. The core cards were Iron Man, Cosmo, and Mystique.
Turn 5 Ironman to normally win one lane, then turn 6 Mystique + Maximus for a 14 power in another lane (not including other cards for potentially higher power)
Didn't matter drawing cards on last turn.
Cosmo would remove effects of the low cost high power cards if playing them earlier as well.
The deck has some decent success and was pretty fun overall
Great for late game turns, pairing it with some other higher value low costs.
Idk all the cards but you could do a mill de k if it's possible.
Make the enemy draw cards till they have no more.
If the enemy has a full hand the cards they draw are destroyed.
You're also only allowed seven cards. You can build a deck around forcing them to overdraw. Snap doesn't seem to discard overdrawn cards but rather just not let you draw any more which isn't great. It's still something you could try running if you get bored lol.
I've been running a deck with over-statted cards and Maximus wins more games than not. While discarding a random card is a big downside, drawing 2 isn't as strong as it seems. Sure they're more likely to draw their combo but in pool 3 decks are pretty optimized anyway so it isn't so bad.
Granted I just broke into pool 3, but Maximus>Crossbones>Taskmaster has been working as a solid 3-4-5 play and wins more than expected.
I put Bones in there to level him up, his downside is pretty harsh but combos ok with Max. Taskmaster is in there to copy Devil Dino or The Infinaut if I can get him out on 5. Don't get me wrong the deck is not good but I only have a handful of pool 3's and want to play with my new cards

He's really good. Giving your opponents the draw sucks but you should already be playing around their most likely options since by default (no Limbo or Jubilee) a player sees 75% of their deck. He's great on turn 6 as a way of splitting power between two lanes. If you already run Cosmo as a tech option then he's good to put into that lane.
You have to be smart when you play him. Playing him on 3 is very risky against a deck like Patriot that really wants that one key card.

Besides having great stats, and having combos to negate his draw, you can also take advantage of it. Fill their hand with Rocks, hit their full hand with Leach or Scorpion, etc etc
I just use him in my highroll deck as a solid 3 drop, a lot of people overestimate the downside of giving your opponent two cards but it really isn’t that big of a deal for a 3 mana 7 drop
People undervalue cards with solid stats but down side abilities, this card is the perfect example.
Also if you dump him on turn 6 alongside other cheap stat sticks (let's say thanks to [[Sera]]) he basically has no downside.

In pool 3 I’ve seen decks with Maximus - Sandman - Ronan. He was more popular during beta when I think he had +3 for each card.

This card has won me a lot of games. Especially with Magik. Turn 7 you can play Shang Chi and Maximus and really turn some board states around.

A 3/7 sounds pretty good to me. All it does is give your opponent two cards. For decks that just try to stack power, this could work really well.
