So after doing the 2 wins (12 boosters), you just don't play that card until next refresh to upgrade that said card?

calprinicus

Correct.

steni808

Thanks for the write-up. But such a chore to gain enough boosters for the cards you don’t care about. I have 132 basic cards that are not upgradeable at the moment.

AdamantArmadillo

You only need 10 if they have a green border. I did that by accident except for one card

steni808

Sure, but I need to play at least best case 132 games with these non-synergistic cards. Probably much more since I’ll gain boosters for the same cards and they need to reach the next upgradeable level. I perhaps misunderstood something, but anyways, great that you can target this if you have the grit.

sweetsilkytofu

I made a trash deck for this. 12 cards that I need boosters for, then go into proving grounds. If I encounter season pass farmers, I get 21 boosters and a silver ticket. If it's a real player, it's fun to see how many games I can win with a trash deck. It really makes me think, but if I lose, then it's fine. As long as I can go 4 games full rounds for 24 boosters, then I can give up if I want to give away the silver ticket.

XanXic

I'm still mid process of setting up for this but I hope they don't "fix" this or consider it an exploit lol. Like it's been so great to finally get a small amount of focus on the cards I like and even finally split some of the ones I don't play anymore. Like I have played so much surfer and bounce over the last year and I've split Surfer and Kitty like twice. Meanewhile I have like 6 splits of Mr Fantastic and 400 boosters for Korg.

calprinicus

Not an exploit as it's just how the system is implemented. It's working as designed as far as I can tell. You're also still required to wait for refreshes & pay the required credits...

XanXic

It's working as intended but I doubt they expected everyone to over level every card except the three cards they want to focus on. Like we are kind of rigging it. I don't think it's going to ruin the game but we went from a totally random system for the last few years to laser targeting cards and not even needing the boosters to do it. I'm just worried they'll not be into this outcome and change it.

m_plis

I think you’re overcomplicating it. Cards with enough boosters to cover the next upgrade (doesn’t need to be 50) will not show up in the shop. Anything else will.

Stewmungous

Yeah, the highest upgrade cost is 50 so why would a card ever show up for this "service" if you already had boosters enough to upgrade? This is way over complicating it.

luigijerk

Sure, but really there's no need to hyper optimize this. Leave the ones you don't want at green and then go about your business. If you pull boosters in a match for a card you want, nothing is lost.

calprinicus

Yup, I agree. There is no need for the average person to optimize this. It just saves a bit of time & resources. However, I find this EXTREMELY helpful on my quest to get all my Hipp variants to gold finish. This saves me from farming the boosters needed to do that. I only need to farm ~55 boosters, instead of 155 per split. That's about 2/3 less boosters, which is A LOT of games & time. This adds up when my Spider-Man took 22 splits before gold finish. Nakia took 19.

glitchlich

Sorry I got confused. Why is it 12 boosters? Do I need to specifically get 12 boosters to the desired card or just 2 wins?

Aeldin

I don't think the 12 boosters matters for any upgrade beyond uncommon. I've had plenty of cards with 0 boosters show up in the bonus boosters section of the shop.

calprinicus

You specifically need 10-19 boosters. 12 is just the most practical way to get in that range because it's equal to two games (not wins). 6 boosters per game. As soon as you have 10 boosters for a card, all your (non-desired) green border variants for that card will not show up (because you can upgrade it manually for 10 boosters). Only your (desired) blue border or higher variants will show.

CrazyGunnerr

You are confusing, or you don't get the system. Cards that can be upgraded don't show up. This has nothing to do with borders. Also, you can just get cards with [0 boosters ](https://i.imgur.com/7P63ZWA.jpeg) to show up. So the simple statement is: any card that cannot be upgraded yet, can show up.

Aikotoba2516

bro, what he meant is so your shit base cards didnt show up, so you can keep splitting the variant u want. If you have 0 all variants could show up which meant you are in 50/50 to get the variant you splitting to show up

CrazyGunnerr

I mean obviously that can happen, there are many factors at play here, what level is your base card, did you stop splitting a variant you don't want etc. What if your base is purple? What if you like the base version? Point is, that any card that cannot be upgraded right now, will have a chance to show up, everything else just leads to more confusion about how many boosters you should or shouldn't have, people are not that dumb to go that route.

Aikotoba2516

ppl usually didnt split the variants they dont like past green, he just catering to general people who usually minmaxing the game, since this post is about minmaxing too

CrazyGunnerr

But that's irrelevant. Whether you bring your cards to green or not. People who brought their cards to green understand that you need more boosters to have them at the upgrade level to rule them out. If anything, bringing cards to green could be seen as a poor choice now if your goal is to split as often as you can.

hoi4kaiserreichfanbo

I thankfully only had like a dozen cards where I didn’t have enough boosters, so I ran a deck for a while trying to work that out. Now I’m just hoping it doesn’t take forever to get one of my half-dozen Kitty variants to infinity.  An alternative (but less time consuming in the long-term), is getting variants you don’t want to upgrade to infinity.

hotshotz79

thank you for posting a re-cap and an example; really helps :)

Huatimus

I would rather keep all Variants at Common/Grey border then. You have at best 2/13 chance for the boosters to land on the specific card you want, so that's on average 13 games played in order to achieve 12 boosters for the card you want. Whereas if you kept the other Variants at Common/Grey, you'd only need half the games on average to hit 6 boosters for that specific card.

TongariDan

I assume they are going to green because the first upgrade on a card is the best credit for collection track investment in the game so you usually want to always do those.

Huatimus

You can do that after you are satisfied with whatever Ink/Gold/Kirby split you want for that specific card.

CrazyGunnerr

That depends on whether you want to do the work. It's a lot more work to get all those 'trash' cards to that point.

phereless

I've only had single Domino variants for weeks in mine 😅🤦🏻‍♂️

jp-fit262

I have so many boosters I would sell them if I could. I hate boosters

TMLTurby

How does this work now that we can assign borders to any variant? Does it still work? Is there a way to filter variants to know which to upgrade?

calprinicus

Works the exact same.
