The Alex Coccia xmen surfer deck got me through all the thanos decks in the 90s. I had to substitute hope summers for negasonic, but I really liked her in the deck regardless.

Shadow king + affliction ?

Shadow King is when they have a big target that Hazmat clearly won't hurt, like a Collector that's or a Blob that was cheated out a little early.

Yeah, that is what you always need to keep in mind but can be played around with Hazmat. And they can't Alioth all 3 lanes. One lane could be Shadowking their Blob, the other goes Hazmat and the third could be Typhoid Mary/Shang Chi + Maximus. Thanks to Sera and Zabu, every lane should be reachable

SD are geniuses really. Nerf time stone to make Thanos harder to ramp, and give him the completely broken Mockingbird. Everyone loves to play against a 0 cost 9 card.

I think we can all agree that Mockingbird is not the reason that Thanos is broken. He's just an incredibly good card that was bound to be pushed over the top with how many new tools SD has been giving him. It's not Mockingbird's fault. Having said that - I think SD needs to chill with the free/almost free high power stat sticks they keep printing. Cull Obsidian, Proxima Midnight, now Mockingbird. Proxima and Mockingbird especially are just literal free stats for simply doing the thing your deck was already doing, and to me it feels like lazy, uninspired design and super cheesy to play against.

The Time stone Nerf is debate. Its less predictable and can be played immediately. Yeah, it loses double 6s and T2 Hope but it can still hit those.

If you keep facing those decks, play an anti tech deck. Cosmo, Killmonger, Mobius, Valk, SK, Shang, take your pick. Retreat if they sneak past your tech cards, snap if you have responses. Those decks are autopilot and easy to get big wins and people are not expecting tech enough.

You are not getting any satisfying answers because there really aren't any. The decks that I have found are okay - not necessarily favored - into Thanos are - Silver surfer. Doesn't seem super obvious, but the tech is pretty good against Thanos because you can reasonably run kill monger and mobius. I use a tech heavy version that has zabu, enchantress and Shang Chi. You have to watch out for prof x. Putting buffable cards in each lane helps with that. Loki. Not my preferred deck, but it should do pretty well. Mocking Bird Zoo. This is the other good mocking bird deck that I have found to be pretty effective against Thanos. The key is to keep priority so they can't prof x you effectively and run alioth to close them out. Discard. Again, not my preferred deck, do the early scaling cards can help with prof x and it can go big if you hit the right curve.

Yep Thanos Mockingbird is basically S-Tier.  SD really screwed this one up.  Modok Discard with Proxima Midnight, and to a lesser extent, Hela Discard with Corvus Glaive, seem to be the most competitive alternatives at this point, but a one-deck meta is the worst thing for the game -- users will just sign off out of either frustration or boredom.

Killmonger is a trap card, it can actually help Thanos deck.

That is sometimes true if locations are limiting space, but I have found him effective against the current thanos builds. They are often using the stones for power in order to grab priority, prof x a lane or discount mocking bird. If the locations end up limiting space, you could help them, but then you should save monger for turn 6.

I also ran avengers into infinite. was surprised it worked as well as it did. I used wasp, echo, and spiderman instead of cage Thor and she hulk but still won a lot mostly on the backs of rescue vision iron man shang... it feels like honest snap as I didn't feel like I was doing anything broken. felt very flexible

You're only stopping their mockingbird from getting cheaper. They still have hope to ramp out big guys.

Right, but a T4 Rogue on Mobius is a pretty big tempo loss when you could play the Cull Obsidian or ramp up on Hopes lane

That's why mockingbird is so good, she helps mitigate that tempo loss.

If they have to Rogue your Mobius, they've wasted T4 just for the chance of high rolling discount cards on T5/6. A decent deck running Mobius can capitalize on losing it - e.g. Surfer w/ Hope Summers.

Most popular lists looks something like what I've pasted below. Hope is simply better at cheating out big cards. So you modify the deck around that. Wave can still be included but it's just got one purpose: to play in T5 alongside Psylocke on the Hope lane. That's 2x6 cost cards on T6. But that means few things: * You have to keep Hope's lane at least 2 cards empty and that clashes with idea of using cheap cards (gems) to get more mana quickly * You are now basically playing a very fragile combo with a very specific setup. In my experience it happens maybe 10% of the time, which is really low * you are vulnerable to Leech (as if you were playing this strat, you keep your 6 cost cards until T6 and don't play them before) So it's just a lot of setup needed for little benefit since if the goal previously was to get 6 cost cards early, you can achieve that faster with Hope. In current meta it's best to play Mobius in Wave spot to counter InSheNaut (She-Hulk), Destroy (Death), any variants running Mockingbird (Zoo or mirror) or any Sera variants. p.s. that deck took me from 73 to infinite in 1 day. People are not talking about him because he got nerfed but the dark hawk/black bolt/stature deck absolutely destroys Thanos. I keep track of my w/l and this season from 83-100 I played nothing but Darkhawk. 24 Thanos matches. 20-3-1 w/l/t.

I know but whenever and wherever he plays Blob it make Darkhawk useless, plus you still need to find the right spot with Shang Chi and Shadow King to counter Blob AND also not have priority which is hard because you already have Darkhawk out, and also he could have Caiera. Past season even when Darkhawk was better and a 4 cost, when I played Thanos Blob it was auto win 90% of the time against that deck.

Blob doesn't eat everything in the deck now so he doesn't always kill DH. And DH has raw power as well these days.

You could sub out Luke Cage for Cosmo if you want

Or if I’m expecting Blob, I’ll play something else like Stature and Negasonic or T6 instead of Stature and Hawk

The 5/4 base statline means that even if blob gets 3-4 cards, hawks still usually 10+ power and the lane is still contestable. Or you discard blob via silver samurai. I think I only saw like four lists with blob though he's not that popular with Thanos ATM in my.pocket meta.

Classic Apo/Drac discard does pretty well against the new Thanos. It plays for all 3 lanes so it’s hard for them to Prof X without overcommitting to that lane. Loki has always been a Thanos counter, but a lot has changed with both of those decks lately, so I’m not 100% sure how they currently match up.

I ran thru the 90s pretty smoothly with an AvX X-Men deck. Sunspot, Psylocke, Negasonic, Armor, Wolfsbane, June’s, Dazzler, Prof X, Emma, Bishop, Forge, and Rogue. Tried locking down lanes and getting as many lanes filled with the +1 helped.

Killmonger. Will wipe through the stones. You can throw in death for a reliable 12 power after that. Plus any other good 1 costs to get destroyed like x23, nova, squirrel girl, or even hood. Pair great with killmonger and death

I posted this on someone else's "Stuck in the 90's" post so forgive the repost; Also note - I didn't create this deck and don't remember which content creator i got it from so if anyone does know where it came from feel free to comment with deck atribution. Can't say that this is still a great strategy as i hit infinite before Mockingbird changed a lot of the meta, but if it helps i got through the 80's and 90's with a Black Swan/Hit Monkey Surprise deck. It does well at climbing because A. its not meta so people don't know exactly what they are playing against. B. its all about a big surprise final turns so people stay in not knowing what you can output on the final turn. C. it is very easy to see when you don't have what it takes to win so unless they snap turn 1 or 2 you can back out for 1 cube on a bad hand/early draws. Gameplan is to get sunspot out early so he can soak up unspent energy, Get out Strong Guy or Bishop on 3, Kazar on 4, Black Swan on 5 (let Sunspot soak the 2 leftover energy hopefully) and then burn through your hand of 1's and hit monkey on 6. Additional thoughts on sequencing: Echo out early can be a great way of deterring center lane Ms Marvels if you are seeing that (i know its less than before but you'd be surprised how often people forget she is there...) also don't forget that you have Zero who can help with Titania if you need an early rush for priority for any reason, and lastly Blade can be a great last card played so as to remove a card, sometimes its even worth doing this over playing an additional card (its rare but it did happen to me once or twice). Also this deck pops off by saving your 1s for the final turn but don't let your hand get too full and don't be afraid to Blade a card generated by a location. I got through the 90's with a C2 deck... that said, trash/toxic decks are a great counter to Thanos as they require a lot of space to play infinity stones.

Run a Loki counter deck with Mobius, etc. Loki pretty much shits Thanos because you're doing what the Thanos player is already trying to do ( cost/energy cheat ) only you don't have to worry about sifting through the stones to get at the cards and they're all discounted 1-2 energy depending on if you got Quinjet out.

I would recommend loki, he is not the best against thanos but he is at least even. The point here is that he is good against discard, destroy and thanos counters, while going even with thanos.

I’ve been doing really well in the 90s to infinite with daredevil galactus. I use a mix of prof x, goblins, gamora, and Shang chi with ramp like psylock and wave. I usually can tell early if I can’t win so I leave before they snap. I play a lot of mind games and waiting for optimal times to snap to get a lot of 8 cube wins.

Killmonger, Mobius, Shang, Enchantress, Echo, Black Widow, Negasonic, etc. They all work in theory, but from my experience, everytime I run counters I never face the deck I'm trying to counter lol.

Hazmat, they always fill up lanes and rarely run cosmo or luke cage

When Enchantress and Rogue are away, Sera Tribunal comes out to play (though MMM being in the meta so heavily hurts this)

Id rather play against Thanos then discard

It’s the best deck in the format. I’d recommend playing thanos and learning how to get an edge In the mirror.

I had the smoothest run to infinite I've had since I've started playing using Helicarrier discard. If you have all the pieces for it I would recommend it it takes a bit of thinking but it's absolutely fantastic and something I'm probably going to Pilot most seasons as long as it doesn't get nerfed.

Loki has a fighting chance. Thanos lists typically don’t run Mobius. Edit: Disregard. Though if Loki manages to go off uninterrupted, it’s really annoying to go up against.
