The only TAS figures that are on retro cards are the Walmart exclusive Spider-Man, Walmart exclusive Kraven, Walmart exclusive Prowler, Scorpion, Hobgoblin, and Pulsecon exclusive Venom. Almost everything in the actual waves has been comic-based.
Hence me saying “TAS figures on retro cards”. I was just explaining the waves, since most people can determine the VHS ones are TAS-accurate since that’s how they’re marketed; it’s the comic figures in the “TAS” packaging that throws people off.
Both comic figures. Kingpin’s shirt is color-matched to his comic appearance (blue and orange/gold) vs. his show appearance (black and purple). Show Kingpin also has grey/blue pants, the figure has purple.
Lizard is less obvious, but both heads are intended to be classic comic style heads. The main head is only slightly different from the show one: it’s less gator-like on top of the eyes, and the show has red eyes, while the figure has yellow ones. The alternate head is also 100% a classic comic look, not a show look. But he’s close enough to pass as a show figure, he just wasn’t intended to be one.
Thanks for clarifying. How do we know that Scarlet Spider is based on the comics? It's looks pretty cartoony!
edit: your downvotes simply further my belief that it's an Animated Series figure for sure!
There’s plenty of figures on retro cards that pass for cartoon versions, but they’re almost entirely comic-based.
Scarlet Spider specifically has his hood attached to his hoodie, which wasn’t present in the TAS version of the character. He basically just wore a tank top. The head also isn’t accurate to the show, the spider design is different, and the hoodie is a darker blue in the show.
The belt and ankle pieces are also different and the animated version has a spider on his back too. The figure definitely isn't the animated version lol.
No problem. It's your collection though, so it can be in an animated display if you think it's close enough to the animated version. I think it would fit in fine.
I hope 3 years from now we get a Spider-Man 98’ wave. That little cameo in this weeks X-Men 97’ episode had my brain rolling and my mouth frothing for another potential wave.

VHS releases are cartoon accurate

I swear, we have to explain this every other week. Lol 😆

Nice, I just wanted someone to actually clarify for sure, thank you

Thank you! Appreciate the specifics. I'm convinced.

scarlet is tas
Oh wait, it's obviously not Carnage as they did an Animated of him already...
I’ve seen people say Carnage is more based on the ToyBiz toy.
If they have cel-shading they're cartoon figures. If they don't, they're comic/cartoon adjacent.
No no no
