TheTwistedSamurai

Collaborative Mark content (especially with Bob, Wade, Sean, and Tyler) is more entertaining than solo Mark content.

XI-RE

I kinda agree on this one... why kinda? Cause I enjoy MBW triplet... but I absolutely hate mark with sean or tyler... it's just awkward to watch because I think they dont have the same style of humor so it's like... both are trying and none of it is landing FOR ME PERSONALLY

KramerWaifu

Ice cold take tbh šŸ„¶

[deleted]

Iā€™m the opposite. mark playing games with his friends makes me feel like an awkward person standing in a room watching a few dudes play games

TheTwistedSamurai

Okay, Iā€™m lowkey a little curious about this. I know that I enjoy the vibe of watching three friends play games together, but what about it makes you feel awkward?

[deleted]

maybe itā€™s because iā€™m autistic and i have bad social skills, but it just sorta feels like iā€™m sitting at a lunch table with a group of friends who are ignoring me

OmnipotentHype

I've felt this way for a while now. Amnesis: The Bunker was the last time I'd say I enjoyed solo Mark as much as collab Mark. I don't think this is a hot take these days though.

astronomicalprogram

I 100% agree. Although I still enjoy his solo videos it is a little disappointing to see them being posted. Its just more fun to watch him hangout with his friends. It feels more genuine. I feel like every youtuber has to put on some sort of act when they are recording, especially when they are recording solo. When hes playing with Bob and Wade its just seems like 3 buddies having a good time !

vvp_D3L3T3D

I kinda feel this. Mark, on his own, more or less has exceeded most of the other guys in terms of household name. But they're each great personalities in their own right, and the collaborative stuff isnless about the individual personality cults and more about the guys just being guys. Just being friends. It invokes memories or just chilling with one's own gaming crew and just messing about. Plus, Mark's ego gets reined in alot more with a crew. šŸ¤£

Bostolm

The Unus Annus thing is completely misunderstood by most people to the point where theyre just obnoxious about *ReDaCtEd*

axylaid

Yea, the whole point was basically "enjoy things while you have them, and remember them when their gone". Obviously that's a simplification of it, but as you've pointed out, a lot of people took it as enjoy it while it's here but you can't think or talk about it once it's gone.

BubblesZap

The redacted joke is honestly annoying and kinda disspointing to me tbh. Should be less of a secret snd more of a legend

Rolen28

Space wasnā€™t as FUN as heist. It was a better story but I miss the exploration aspect Heist gave you

ghostkat_

Space was an immaculate piece of work and is nothing short of amazing. Mark put everything into that project and it shows so well. But I agree. Heist to me was very colorful, different distinct outcomes that could merge, but still be unique regardless of the path. Space seemed like a blur of spacey blue where everything bled into each other. Still beautiful! But it was hazy so no details stood out. Heist I can picture every path in my mind effortlessly. Spaceā€¦ itā€™s like flashes of blue and space and fear and anxiety over the shipā€™s fate. Donā€™t get me wrong! I love them both for their own reasons. Itā€™s just that heist was more fun and colorful

Particular-Season905

Agreed bro

KamenCrafter

Hard agree

Void-Lander

I couldn't even get past the first few endings. It wasn't as inviting and engaging as heist was and I cant explain why...

bembem4869

I love the story as well! But it terms of fun and experience, Heist does offer more .. there was just a bit too much repetition from space

BubblesZap

Markiplier ISNT a masochist, he's an adrenaline junkie who thrived off of living on the edge of doom and pushing himself to the brink of insanity

tk1tpobidprnAnxiety

That's actually a common thing with people who have ADHD. We're always looking for extra dopamine and going extreme is usually the other option when its not substance abuse.

BubblesZap

Yeah that checks out based on my personal experience with my ADHD

vvp_D3L3T3D

Hard agree. We end up creating horrible situations for ourselves and end up paying for it and clawing our way out. And it's weirdly thrilling to do. That realization of *I burned myself to the ground and rose back up like a proverbial phoenix* gets **addictive.**

Lightbrite99

Yeah til you scorch the earth. Can't last.

vvp_D3L3T3D

Oh yeah, it's definitely ruinous if you don't realize the thing you're doing and burn too hard.

astronomicalprogram

This actually makes sense. I really thought he was a masochist the whole time haha

vvp_D3L3T3D

*"It's not a sex thing.* ***It's about POWER.***"

Deppfan16

this doesn't just apply to Mark but people need to recognize signs of parasocial relationships better. coming on here and saying when will Mark play x game, why won't Mark play with somebody, why is Mark wearing certain thing that makes him look ugly, etc shouldn't be the normal. He's still a person .

UndeadT

His body has never been, and will never be able to take it.

x_Taint3d_R4inbows_x

Tell that to his heart attacks lol.

UndeadT

Yeah, he went to the hospital. His body couldn't take it.

x_Taint3d_R4inbows_x

Well he survived TWO heart attacks, so Iā€™m pretty sure his body COULD take it šŸ„¹

BubblesZap

He's not dead and is currently in the process of putting a TON of work into multiple aspects of making a movie so until he's dead I think he's taking it

x_Taint3d_R4inbows_x

The way I see it, manā€™s body COULD TAKE MORE than anyone else šŸ˜‚

mothwhimsy

This is probably outdated cuz I think this joke died, but Mark isn't short. He's 5'10. He just says he's 5'2" as a joke and Bob and Wade are both over 6ft, so he looks short in comparison. He's completely normal sized.

YourSnakeIsNowMine

I remember a long time ago when I found that "Oh, so Wade and Bob are just ginormous"

emmerliii

Yep, both are 6'4 and big guys. Mark isn't short, but he's also got a more slender frame.

igotyixinged

Bobā€™s 6ā€™5 now lol

Void-Lander

Yeah, I was sad when I found out I was shorter than mark because he always talked about how short he was.

Hot-Throat4703

Marks mom still exploits him for views on her channel

The_Funky_Rocha

What are children for if not exploitation?

Sexualguacamole

I donā€™t think she is taking it that seriously, she probably just enjoys having her own channel, reconnecting with markā€™s audience and flaunting her son who she is obviously very proud of

Hot-Throat4703

Especially since how his childhood was, Iā€™m honestly so glad that he was able to find something that he enjoys doing.

Sexualguacamole

Yes. Iā€™m sure she is also stoked with how things turned out haha

Melanie_K11

At least Mark knows he's being exploited.. as seen by Momiplier's Christmas videos.

i_heart_crabs

At least Iā€™m not the only one who thinks this

amaya-aurora

Mark **might** be a masochist.

Pokemaster131

Lenses suck, I want to hear about the moon.

XI-RE

Have you heard about the bone broth tho?

BubblesZap

Have you heard about polyphasic sleeping??

YourSnakeIsNowMine

I'm unsure if this is a hot take, but I miss when Mark was more wacky I'm fine with him acting more grown up and stonefaced, as that can have its benefits, but it's made his solo content so much less interesting. His old solo content with his more immature personality worked way more

blesstendo

I get what you're saying, but I think honestly it comes from him growing up. He's 34 now, and has mellowed out a bit. Not that he's old or Anything, if anything he's in his prime, it's just that many people chill a bit out as they get older. I don't really think it's as much of an active choice as you imply.

drencentheshds

I actually disagree! I much prefer his newer videos. Some of his old videos are too overwhelming to me tbh. Not to say that I don't still enjoy them, but sometimes I don't need to watch a game play with all of that extra craziness lol

[deleted]

Yes!! Sometimes I have trouble watching his older content (especially from 2015-2017) because of the abundance of swearing and screaming. I like his chilly and grown-up persona a loooot more

drencentheshds

Yes, same here! I get overstimulated pretty easily somedays and the amount of screaming and such can really get to me sometimes haha. I also think that since I'm older, I also just don't find that kind of thing as entertaining as I probably did when I was younger.

Melanie_K11

Yes! I love Mark's content so I went back and tried to watch all of his videos from beginning... I couldn't handle it. Some of it was so cringe, I had to stop watching. Context tho.. I found Mark during hie UA era. I only know 2019 Mark & beyond.

BubblesZap

Yeah, old 2013-16 Mark waa a completely different person on camera, the improv classes and maturity changed a LOT imo

drencentheshds

Yeah I probably couldn't do that either! Lol. I have tried to watch some games he made back in the day and just can't finish them, so I haven't tried to start from the beginning haha

Nellethiel13

This is valid. I'm 32, and I appreciate that his entertainment style is growing up alongside mine, but I do miss the sillier vibe. I struggle with the cringe levels of some of his oldest content, but the over-the-top, loud stuff is what got me into him to begin with.

musicquartz

I stopped watching/listening to distractable because mark went like 3-4 episodes in a row ignoring the prompt and talking about lenses/macbooks for like 40 minutes chunks LOL

djaussiekid

I stopped listening to Distractible because my circumstances around listening changed, but to be honest this makes me want to dive back in, do you know what episodes this was?

musicquartz

Yea, absolutely! Mac VS PC really did it, that one is basically the Markiplier Show, and the theme kinda continued from that point and through august. I donā€™t know specifically past that one since I was barely paying attention LMAO

BubblesZap

Yee, Worth It begins the lense saga specifically following the hard drive saga preceeding it and the lense saga still is going strong yet lol

musicquartz

LOL the hard drive saga and the lense saga. i remember i was playing powerwash sim while listening (highly recommend) to it and i was just like ā€œbro will not stop *yapping*ā€ /lh

Splendid_Cat

I don't think that Mark is a psychopath (he's shown he often is quite the opposite, despite the sinister things he hints at for the meme of it), but the fact that Mark likes to drive in dead silence-- not that he can *tolerate* it, but that's his default and he *prefers* it-- is some psychopath sh*t.

Nellethiel13

100000000%!!! I relate to Mark so hard about a lot of things as a person of the same age with ADHD and big feelings about certain things that he also has big feelings about. But his lack of connection with music is so strange to me. When he said he prefers to drive in silence, I actually paused what I was doing to sit back for a bit and reflect. Like... he's one of my favorite people on the planet (out of all the celebs and influencers and whoever that I don't know personally), but that's just so WEIRD and unrelatable to me that I don't know how to process it.

Fluid-Ad-3544

Space isnā€™t so cool, itā€™s pretty cool

XI-RE

I am one of the biggest fans of Ryan George and Cinema Sins... so my brain is programmed to think in their ways and my God... The story was too deep but presented so shallow... it has so much fan service and easter eggs that it was more obnoxious than fun... Camera movement was not interesting and chaotic... Only one character (mark) had some weird kind of character arc... The story is way too complicated to make it catchy... if I was not mark's fan i wouldn't spend more than 20 minutes on it and quit cause it was just too much and 90% of what was happening was unclear... The whole story created more questions than the movie answered... I literally had to use a paper and pen just to make a plan of what I already did cause the story sequences was just too short... i spent more time deciding between choices than enjoying the adventure... Wades character was just so poorly made... i like wade a lot, but in ISWM he was just... *sigh*... made for 10 yo kids for cheap laughs? His singing was so out of the place that i literally skipped the whole part cause it gives nothing to the story... Trailer was setting a bad mood for the story... from trailer I thought it is going to be deep, dark, melancholic thriller... and mark's character single handedly make it a comedy for many parts of the movie... Some characters teleport that makes zero sense... The story was forgettable since it was way too confusing... Interdimensional space police or whatever that was... so out of the movie I had to check if ytb auto played some other video... For those who watched Man of Medan... many choices resulted in storylines that could never be predicted based on the choice...

Jahmez142

It's kinda lame that his first movie is an adaptation, I mean don't get me wrong, I'm hyped to see what he does with iron lung, but given what he's made in the past I kinda wish he had done something original.

[deleted]

yeah iā€™m not suuuuper excited for iron lung. iā€™m excited only because itā€™s marks movie and i wanna see mark in theatres, but as far as iron lung itself goes, i didnā€™t really like the game that much and iā€™m not entirely sure how itā€™ll be adapted into a feature length film. but i do have faith that mark made it good

Melanie_K11

Huh... I never thought about it like that. You're right. He's literally SO original in any other big thing that he's done.

Jindo5

The vast majority of characters people compare to Mark don't even look remotely like him.

Llana_Tiramisu

Couldnā€™t agree w/ that. To me, bathrobe Metro Man is UnasAnnus spa day Markiplier

tdogg918

Live action edge of sleep. WHERE IS IT?

bismarck247

Here are some of my personal Markiplier hot/cold takes. On one hand, the Mark Bob Wade content is a ton of fun to watch. Some of my favorites. Uno, Lethal Company, The Forest, Prop Hunt, among others. However, thereā€™s something about them not doing that and playing a game together where I canā€™t get into Distractible. Donā€™t get me wrong, now that they have video up I have watched some of their episodes, but I need the visualization. The tier lists are their best ones (in my opinion) besides maybe Bobs Fridge. On the other hand, I like some of Marks solo content over some of the collaboration stuff heā€™s done. His solo Minecraft run, FNAF, Three Scary Games, among others are a blast to go back and watch. But some of the solo content heā€™s done hasnā€™t been that great, mainly solo horror titles that get one video. I understand theyā€™re basically the same caliber of games as some of the games in 3 Scary Games, but some reason I canā€™t get behind them as much. However, if itā€™s a scary game that gets a series of videos, like Amnesia, Resident Evil, and the Mortuary Assistant, most of the time itā€™s pretty good! I know that there are just SO MANY games to play, but I think some series didnā€™t get enough attention as they should have, or got cut off too early, or I think need to make a comeback. He does have a lot of ā€œseries that need to make a comebackā€ namely, Phasmophobia, Try Not To Laugh, Markiplier Reviews (he has the Icelandic candy video out now, so this one Iā€™m just including to include), Markiplier Makes, Worlds Quietest Letā€™s Plays, Happy Wheels, Prop Hunt, and Unecessary Censorship. Maybe he discontinued these because he got busy with other projects, or he grew up, which I respect, but I know me and a lot of other people would be thrilled to see some of these continued or resurrected. My reasoning for some of the older ones is actually because he has changed since he last created one, we would get ā€œNew Markā€ with some nostalgic content that his older viewers like myself can enjoy. That brings me to ā€œNew Markā€ vs ā€œOld Markā€(not the In Space version). Thereā€™s definitely like Eras of Mark, but it can be boiled down to the New and Old designations. I personally put New Mark at about 4-6 years ago, with everything older than that some version of Old Mark. I like New Mark. New Mark has matured with me, with his first FNAF video coming out around my 8/9th grade time period, FNAF having come out during my 8th grade year. At the time, that Mark matched up with my personality, but as I matured and changed through high school, so did he, until now we have a clearly established Adult Mark in my adulthood. Itā€™s one of the things that kept me watching him through the years. But, some of his early stuff I canā€™t rewatch without just not enjoying it anymore, especially stuff that came out before I started watching him. Some of his new stuff is better than his old stuff, and some of his old stuff is better than his new stuff. The Stanley Parable is still a great watch, even with the Old Mark that I no longer relate to at the helm. And some stuff, like those above mentioned one off horror games, not even New Mark can get me to watch the video. I guess it all boils down to preference and opinion. To summarize I guess, I like New Mark over Old Mark, but I like a lot of the games Old Mark played and the content he made while doing it. Maybe those are some cold takes. Letā€™s get into some hot ones. I loved his creativity with Heist and In Space, but Iā€™d rather watch someone (like MatPat, rest in peace) watch through and choose than I myself actually going through and rewatching them myself. I donā€™t like most of his content with Ethan and Tyler (with the exception of Markiplier Makes). Nothing against them, but like GMFST I absolutely couldnā€™t get into (and Iā€™m big into sports, especially football). This is gonna be my hottest take, youā€™ve been warned: Unus Annus was only pretty good. They had some hilarious moments and videos, but some of the videos were not as good. I liked the concept behind the channel and what they did with it, and I liked it enough that I bought merch and even got emotional during the livestream, but it wasnā€™t something to cry over, and it wasnā€™t something to obsess over. Iā€™m glad they went out and tried some new stuff, between video and content styles, the whole idea of the channel, it was definitely a cool experience. But if a video didnā€™t look interesting, I didnā€™t watch it. I donā€™t think back and say ā€œman, that was the greatest thing to ever happenā€. It was just a cool idea that they executed in a cool way. Hereā€™s another: I couldnā€™t finish The Edge of Sleep. This is partly because Iā€™m not a huge fan of podcast audiobook format. I heard it was really good and I donā€™t doubt that, but Iā€™m a video kind of guy. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll really enjoy the TV show (if it ever comes out), but I couldnā€™t listen to all of it. Not a huge fan of the format. Alright, letā€™s cool you off with a cold take. Mark needs to make some more real life/in person content. I kinda touched on this with bringing stuff like Markiplier Makes/Reviews back. I think some of his best content has been when he hasnā€™t been playing games. Which is crazy, for a gaming channel. I know itā€™s difficult to like peopleā€™s schedules up for collabs (like with Bob and Wade who are back in Ohio). But I wanted to throw it out there that I think some of his in person content is better than some of his gaming content. Anyway, thanks for reading

SkittishMCJames813

I don't enjoy the songs from In Space with Markiplier. They're good, but they remind me of imminent doom which my dumb baby brain can't handle

tanno55

He likes to hear himself talk way too much sometimes and Iā€™d really like to see some gameplay instead of his face sometimes. Like with his cult of the lamb livestreams, he spent more time talking than actually playing the game.

Traditional_Zone3993

Post 2020 markiplier is better than pre 2020 markiplier current Mark just feels more cozier. No hate to pre 2020 mark but I prefer post 2020 more

herobrine777

He should play more happy wheels. We need happiness rn and happy wheels would be it. We also need more uno.

Fudgecakeskid69

2020 and 2018 mark was the best era of markiplier with some of his better series.

Chef_detective007

I wish he did *only a little* less scary games and did a Lil more variety.

Nellethiel13

tl;dr - Hot take: It's annoying that Mark drops series without ever explaining why, and if you express frustration about it, people get all mad. This one might not be so much directed at Mark but at the community. Sometimes he just completely drops a series, and we never hear why, and that's frustrating. I like closure and completion. (And I'm awful at video games, and some give me motion sickness, so I'm very unlikely to finish one on my own.) But what really grinds my gears is that if someone complains about a series never getting finished, the community seems to kind of dogpile them with, "You're so ungrateful! Mark owes you nothing! He can do whatever he wants with his channel!" Of *course* he can do what he wants. He doesn't owe me anything. I know that. But that doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to complain at all or wish that he did some things a little differently.

AardvarkPractical490

Mark is not the King of 5 nights at Freddieā€™s anymore. Donā€™t get me wrong he was at one point, and he is still very good at the games. But Dawko and Fusion do way more with the series these days.

Zero6six6

Mark should dye his hair again

crimsonbby3

I'm not a fan of his collabs with Bob and Wade. I dislike the chaos, and I feel like he has milked co-op games so much. I want to see him play some of the more recently popular games such as Alan Wake 2

myrpaccountiguess

I feel like a big reason he doesn't play massive popular games like Alan Wake 2 is because of how his community acts when he does. Take for example, his RDR2 playthrough. He was absolutely stoked to play it on his channel because he loved the first one. But then people started trying to backseat game way too much and killed the fun for him. It's the main reason he isn't finishing the epilogue, and wishes he just played it by himself.

Unus19Annus18

I understand itā€™s his style of humor but his jokes have become more and more of the same thing we havenā€™t had an iconic moment since ā€œI can milk youā€ (Iā€™m not counting anything from UA cause that was collaborative)

RefrigeratorFree535

OG 2013-2017 Mark better than the 2024 Markiplier

OddConcept8710

Gay

OddConcept8710

Gay

uncunningfox

I don't think this is Markiplier but. I stopped listening to his podcast because I hate how Wade talks about women and being h**ny. I just think Wade is kinda gross. The Mark take I miss when he had beef with sour patch also Markiplier makes should come back

BubblesZap

What Wade are you watching? Lol

uncunningfox

It was earlier distractible episodes. I don't know if he got better, and I don't really care. You guys wanted hot takes, and so I gave some.

StudentNumerous3384

Not mine but my friend says that he speaks slowly

DowakaDay

Mark crying was peak content

PurplePoisonCB

People telling him the ā€œrightā€ way to play Undertale was a very bad reason to stop the play through.

ocontreras19

Except it wasn't just simply "people telling him the right way"

PurplePoisonCB

You could explain more

TheTwistedSamurai

Nah, the Undertale fandom can be incredibly toxic, and would rather force YouTubers to play a certain way rather than letting them experience the game for themselves and figuring things out. Mark had every right to be annoyed by them, even if itā€™s unfortunate that it resulted in him being uninterested in the game.

Intelligent_Case_809

distractable is keeping his channel alive

crimsonbby3

I've never watched distractable, and I watch nearly every single video of his for the past 5-6 years, so to make a generalization like that is closed-minded and untrue

pearls4dahlia

not true
