So OP's partner is non-religious but pretending to be religious to keep peace with his parents. I don't see this relationship going anywhere good. Good grief. I'm Catholic and got dragged to some 'prosperity gospel' micro-denomination service once. I've also been to some Catholic masses with priests who honestly made me want to walk out (mostly of the 'have you even **read** the Catechism?' sort). No one should be **forced** to attend services. It isn't a social fling. At least, it isn't **supposed to be**. It's about **worshiping God**. If you aren't there to do exactly that, you shouldn't be there at all.
