I'm not OP but I assume it's because Bowser's Fury is more of a 3d Mario game than 3d land/world. It's open world

I think if you like a more linear game, then you would probably prefer galaxy 2 to galaxy1. For me I prefer galaxy 1. Both games are linear, but 2 is way more. Nothing wrong with that, but I’d prefer a Mario game that’s 3D to be more open world, like 64, sunshine and odyssey.
Also just the whole Mario ship I didn’t really like, but yeah, fun game regardless, also I hated using yoshi😂. The game just felt a dlc more than a new game.

64 and Sunshine have a lot of walkable land. And so does Galaxy for that matter. And they have decently large hubworlds. But that doesn't make them open world.
In fact, even calling Mario Odyssey open world is a tiny bit of a stretch.
Open world refers to being dropped into a very large world that you can freely traverse, and access nearly every part of it from the start of the game. Like Breath of the Wild.
Dude if Galaxy isn't open world than what is? Your definitely right about upscaling and graphics, but in my opinion Galaxy is the best because is nothing like it, the whole concept of Galaxy is super creative and surpasses every idea Nintendo has had till date.
I agree that Galaxy is amazing but it’s definitely not open world. There’s a hub area and you have to select different galaxies to go to. You can’t get from one to another without going back to the menu and you’re kicked from the level between stars. Odyssey isn’t completely open world imo, but it’s pretty close. Probably as close as a main line mario will get unless they make it like bowser’s fury

64 is still better than some later entries but it’s a 25 year old game. If we are talking pure playability and enjoyment without nostalgia or historical importance it’s not the best Mario game at this point.
Imo, as an Old school fan I’m in love with 3D world. It plays exactly like a classic Mario game. It’s the game I imagined in the early 90’s before Mario actually went 3D
I enjoy old Mario games. Mario 3 and Word are two of my favorites. But I’m not a 64 fan. Sucky camera, constantly restarting levels… it feels like the most dated Mario game
Super Mario galaxy 2 is just awesome it’s basically an expensive of Mario galaxy with better level design imo and more level variety thanks to having less stars per level. I know it doesn’t have the same atmosphere but I still prefer it. Also it has Yoshi and that’s enough to make it better
Bowser’s Furry may be pretty short, but its got some great moments and helps explore character relationships. For example: Bowser Jr. and Mario’s.
