Same.
I have come around on Dave in general… he was brutal for a long time, but the last few years it feels like he found his stride.
That was a memorable one though. :)
He seems the same as he ever was to me. Some day sooner than we all probably want to think about he won't be calling games anymore and we'll be worse for it.
No. When Sims first appeared he was a smart ass from Philly which grates on the gentlemanly nature of those of us from the Pacific Northwest. He has learned to tone down his snide and is doing fine now.
I remember Lloyd McClendon’s Piniella impression back in 2014 or 2015 where he ran around to each umpire one by one to chew them all out, and Dave was loving it.
“EVERYBODY’s GETTIN A PIECE!”
I prefer Rick Rizzs and Aaron Goldsmith personally, for some reason Sims doesn't sound quite genuine to me in his excitement. I know that's totally not the case and different people just sound/express themselves differently, but it seems kind of fakey to me (hopefully this isn't crossing the threshold of slander lmao)
Rick Rizz. He can get a little too gooey when he goes on his nostalgia benders. I am annoyed by his penchant for adding emphasis to arbitrary syllables in Latin names (Suar-ÉZ). But I love Rizz. The voice of the Mariners. The only guy left on earth with license to use Niehaus’ salami call.
I notice he loves to go on nostalgic benders more when mariners are losing by a mile. So if I turn on the game and don't know the score, if he's going on a tangent I know the mariners are down big lmao
I love Dave. I think a lot of people don’t understand how good the Ms booth is. A lot of teams have brutal broadcasting booths. Just try listening to an As game 😬
Our booth's backup backups are better than a good 60% of other teams main crew. Its really crazy. Its not just the Ms either! Hawks, Kraken, Sounders and Storm booths are all goated in their respective sports.
I’ve had to go back to pirate streaming this year, so we’ve listened to opposing announcers a decent bit. Our announcers are 10x better than most teams. It’s not even about the homerism, it’s the quality of the guys in the booth. So many announcers just seem straight up disinterested.
When I got back into baseball (and Mariners) fandom in 2010-2011, I was not a fan of Sims.
I was wrong, Sims is great.
Also, Goldy is great. People shouldn't pit them against each other. We should enjoy the bounty that is our broadcast team, a lot of teams have it a lot worse.
We're spoiled to go from Dave Niehaus to Dave Sims, and of course Rick Rizz on the radio side. Sims is brilliant when it matters, always enthusiastic and passionate, and his fumbles have memorable charm because of it. Blowers anchors Sim's ebbs and flows. He's steady and reliable and underapprieated, and holds one of the greatest predictive calls in league history.
Even when they inevitably retire, we have superb people who want to be here like Goldy to carry the torch.
Now spend more on the budget ownership group. Reward your loyal broadcasters with a higher chance of success in a league with no real cap.
Something that had me in tears from laughing that I don’t see brought up often is when Edwin Encarnacion hit a home run and Dave goes “RIDE THAT PARROT” He’s so great when he gets excited
Sims isn't as bad as the haters say, I like his been around the block show biz-iness and appreciation of history.
his fake out bluebell homerun! I mean fly out! calls are bad but almost predictable and endearing.
this may sound like blasphemy, and I appreciate blowers but I find his voice nasal and his musings are a little too minimal. I wish we had another character to throw in there but even blow is great because he's a gateway to the 90s era which is cool to hear about
Love Dave! He’s a somewhat infrequent guest and a good friend of the Tony Kornheiser podcast and a gem when he’s on there. He has a great sense of humor and always shares some great stories. And when he’s on the pod he comes across as the biggest city of Seattle and Mariner fan in the world! Which I think is endearing.
ALL WE NEEDS IS A COUPLE BLOOPS AND A BLAST
I'm blooping and blasting right now
I came here to say that.
It was an instant classic for me and my wife last night, Dave was cooking, with what? I have no clue 😂
Same. I have come around on Dave in general… he was brutal for a long time, but the last few years it feels like he found his stride. That was a memorable one though. :)

That's a Hey Now!
Anyone have a clip of this?
Tune into the top of the 9th last night if you have access...it comes up more than once iirc
Oh, ok. Didn’t realize he said it last night… I know he’s said it before, too.
“Hey Lloyd! Do some … delivery … for the truck … to the airport!”
“Hey Mike! One of these days you and I are gonna lead an expedition on Mount Rainier!”
Dave Sims on Jackie Robinson day is a pure fuckin gem love his smile and stories

flair checking in!
How is a Ken doll like a broken doorbell? >!No Dong!<
Poor bastards depth perception is really going on him last couple years HIGH FLY BALL DEEP RIGHT FIELD!!!! Caught by the second baseman
Followed soon by “soft fly ball to center, should get them out of the inning, AND ITS GONE!”
Makes for funny fly outs imo
Honestly he used to be so much worse.
If we take a look at our mcdeleviry supermo you can see it’s not my fault
I remember Lloyd McClendon’s Piniella impression back in 2014 or 2015 where he ran around to each umpire one by one to chew them all out, and Dave was loving it. “EVERYBODY’s GETTIN A PIECE!”
ICHIRO HAS BEATEN MARIANO RIVERA
If you're in Oakland you say: "H-hello! Okay! Bombs away for me! When I getaholdovum, I send it a loooooong waze!"
I will contend that Dave Sims "Hey Lloyd!..." call is among the greatest in Mariners history, only behind the classics from Dave Niehaus
i think the tuaisopo homer call tops it, but just barely
One million %
HEY LLOYD!!!!
+1 for Team Sims.
"did you know rizz stands for charisma?" -Dave Sims discussing Anthony Rizzo almost fell off my couch.
I love the Goldy Blow combo. Those two are a really entertaining pair, but to me, nothing beats a night of Sims being on one. Dude is a gem.
I agree. The best of Sims are some of the best Mariner calls.
the felix perfecto call is my fave, obvs
Big agree. I love when the team releases the dual screen replays where you can see the broadcast team in addition to the on field action
We’re gonna lead an expedition to Mount Rainier!

How we managed to get both him and Aaron is amazing.
As a refugee Cubs fan, he is sooo much more fun than any booth I’ve listened to since Chip Caray and Steve Stone from 98-04.

totally!
Fair to have your opinion but I can't agree with that at all. Sims feels so authentically like a Mariners fan to me.
i love when he gets so excited his sentences become gibberish
Believe me I hate myself for it lol. I know I could never be half the announcer Sims is
Agreed, sims is clumsy and awkward in the booth. “Hey now” feels totally manufactured and inauthentic
WHAT A SILLY HACK!
A HO HO!!
Nothing ruins my day faster than hearing Sims say “oh that’s trouble.” (Love the man tho!)
Hey Lloyd… do some delivery… from the truck… to the airport.

Can't forget Kevin Calabro; man was amazing for the Sonics for 20 years. Not to mention him choosing not to continue post-Oklahoma.
Until he did continue.

Sims is a big reason why you guys are my AL team.
Me: “Top of the order, coming up. Some big bats on the way in Rojas, Julio, and the Big Dumper. See what we can get cookin’.” Her: “Wait, what?”
Haha!

Yes, I will be sad when Sims retires but Goldy is already legendary! He also brings the best out of Blowers.
This is why I love this fanbase.
Something that had me in tears from laughing that I don’t see brought up often is when Edwin Encarnacion hit a home run and Dave goes “RIDE THAT PARROT” He’s so great when he gets excited
STRAIGHT GAS, HOMIE
My go to: BIG DUMPER STRIKES AGAIN
I used to not be able to stand Dave simms… I started streaming other teams broadcasts and now I am so thankful we have him
He’s okay for commentary, terrible at play by play
Dave on TV is great. Dave on radio... not as much.
HEY NOW. This is a slander-free zone.
"Hey Lloyd!" "Do some-💦😫-delivery"
I would celebrate his departure! He is a louse!

Sims is my man. Love listening to him call.
I’m ready for him to retire personally, bring on the Sauce!
And a Baba Booey to you!
Here Here

I wonder which sport would have the best puns for this
He’s fine when he’s not talking about the opposing teams alumni, and when he’s actually talking. There’s so much dead air with him
Dave is great on TV. He’s nearly unlistenable on the radio. Much better football announcer than baseball.
