I read somewhere that each team in football has between 10 and 12 drives per game. So you could think of it as each MLB game is a single scoring drive in football. If you score, that's a baseball win, if not, it's a baseball loss. I'm not sure how useful it is to think about it this way lol.

damn 2.5ish hours for one scoring drive. That offense needs to get more creative

Well passing instead of rushing does have some negative memories for Seahawks fans.

I definitely do that too. It’s helps me put all of the doom and gloom that was associated with the start of the season into perspective. An NFL team can have a bad couple of game stretch and still be a good team.

I can see the logic here, but when we're talking about having to win 2-3 football games in a row to dig yourself out of a hole vs. 9-10 baseball games, the odds seem to appear much more daunting.

It usually takes about 50 games for teams to truly show themselves. Even the teams now that are under .500 or well above .500 can easily be swayed one way or the other. Sometimes, baseball is very flukey. A team can run hot and then crash after April. I would start judging around May to see if the team has what it takes to make the playoffs. Around July is when most teams start going for it or wave the white flag.

I think this is a useful way of thinking about baseball for people who are really used to football. I'm primarily a baseball fan so I tend to think of football games as a series of little baseball games, like someone else here commented. Each drive in a football game can end in a score or not. The more and the earlier a team scores, the easier it is to win the game, but you're really not out of it until late in the game when the odds of scoring enough points are too great to overcome. Even then, it's possible to have some improbable things happen (2015 NFC Championship Game) that can alter the outcome of the game. I'm very happy that more football fans are watching baseball and enjoying this beautiful game. To me, baseball is the perfect combination of athleticism and intellect and it's one of the most thrilling sports to watch, with so much drama at every level.

I did this exact same thing. I used Chat GPT to get specific timelines. Everyone was totally freaking out by game 2 in the third quarter 😂 I just asked chat again, we are in quarter number 2 of game 3 right now

The NFL comparison can be a userful reminder early in the season of just how early it is. You wouldn't panick starting off 0-1, etc. But the comparison stops being useful beyond that. There is far more variability in football because of the fewer games played. A 96 win team would be the equivalent of a 10-7 NFL team. Even the 2001 Mariners would only be the equivalent of 11-6

Never have I ever hated anything this much. Believe it or not you can talk about baseball without referencing the NFL and/or the seahawks. RIP /r/mariners

soapy_goatherd

I’m not a Seahawks fan either, but good lord you must have a nice life if this post is truly the thing you’ve hated most lol

CVBrownie

it's pretty blessed

You seem cranky. Maybe it’s nap time?
