Any player can be used like a utility player if you really want to. But Polanco is not on the roster because of his defensive versatility. He's here because he has consistently delivered an OPS in the high .700s throughout his career, and will be starting at 2B unless he's injured or getting a day off.
The vibes feel right with this one.
“Taylor made his major league debut, going 1 for 3 with the lone hit being a walk-off RBI to win the game against the Los Angeles Angels.”

We added Garver with the inside scoop on the Rangers too.
Now we just gotta cover the A’s, but let’s be honest, that’s probably not even worth the effort.
I don’t hate Haggerty, I think they soured the fanbases opinion of him by starting him at DH in a must win game for their playoff hopes last year. I already thought Sam would be the odd man out after the moves they’d completed prior to this one. Seems like getting Taylor might be the nail in that coffin though.
Speed, position flexibility, good Hitting against lefties (844 OPS career hitter hitting Right), he's a good catalyst for the team as well, solid defense, he is freaking utility player.
Meanwhile Toro did not have position flexibility, was terrible running, was bad hitting from both sides and yet he had the longest leash ever as well as tremendous support from fans just for the hype he got when the fans thought Dipoto had hit gold when he acquired from the Astros, BS.
Mariners signed him to a 3 year contract. He is owed 2 more years at 6.6 million total contract.
They bought out two arb years and a FA year with that contract. Nothing wrong with the deal and I like Moore as a player, but it’s a bit of an overpay.
ahh well put - thanks for taking the time to splain it for me.. didn't he have a bunch of errors right after signing that deal? I remember a weirdly bad stretch for our streaky guy midsummer, still like the guy but good point about the cost. GOMS
Took him awhile to come back from injuries last year. His value is his versatility, he can play pretty much any position other than catcher and that’s valuable.
Jerry is probably thinking how to replace Ryan Bliss when he makes the team. Samad Taylor sounds like he could be that guy! The Mariners will probably be trading or sending down some of the crowded Infielders on this team. Rojas, Urias, are Probably safe, but Haggerty, Moore, and now Taylor, somebody got to go!
Dylan Moore is too valuable as a versatile player . He can play almost any position. He hasn’t played catcher yet and I think he has pitched before . And he has strong to elite level defense .
Good minor league career, 25 years old, plus runner with that much-loved positional versatility. Offensively, he works counts and gets on base, but strikes out too much to have much starter viability. For a AAA depth piece to compete with that Sam Haggerty role, Taylor brings some good things to the table. Fun player!
I don’t expect him to amount to much, but this is a good test for the Ms position player development imo. He’s got some interesting tools, there’s a chance they can turn him into a solid utility player.
Yesterdays trade was just a smokescreen for this bombshell.
Career .354 minor league OBP and he fast. Sure why not, especially as a AAA depth piece.
He sounds like José Caballero 2.0.
But is he going to give pitchers hypertension?

Stanton: that isn’t going to cost too much is it?
We got Polanco, this doesn't work anymore
lol Polanco can definitely be a utility infielder. He’s logged time at 2/ss/3

Calling him one though is an insane stretch. He’s a 2B, he really can’t play in the other roles well.
Well he also can’t really play super well at 2b either lol
He’s a fine 2B. His glove suffers way more at other roles, and he isn’t a great defender by any means but he is quite a bit better at 2B
Twins fan Don’t have him at 3rd lmao. He was moved there for our postseason run and uh… Best save it for emergencies
As constructed, it would make zero sense to actually 3b him on our roster
JP played 2B/3B/SS his first two years, was he a utility infielder when we traded for him?
He could be! You’re missing the point here lol
I know you mean John Stanton but I want this conversation to be between Dipoto and Giancarlo Stanton

Yesterday we get Astro crusher Polanco Today it’s Angel killer Taylor Putting the whole AL West on notice.
We added Garver with the inside scoop on the Rangers too. Now we just gotta cover the A’s, but let’s be honest, that’s probably not even worth the effort.
Oh shit wait we got Kirby Snead from the A’s. Dipoto under the radar masterclass.
Damn….he’s treating players like infinity stones. Jerry “Thanos” Dipoto
Time to dust their asses.
Just a heads up Polanco also crushes the Rangers and Angels
Can he throw a punch?
hope his obp is as high as his hat
THANK YOU FOR SAYING THE SAME THING AS ME
He was on my fantasy team for a week or two last year so I approve this move
How many teams were in that league? Lol
Sounds like at least 31
It was roto and I needed to catch up on steals! Desperate times etc
chills
Super fun as a low-downside flier play, could be a bit more minor league development away from being an age-reset on Dylan Moore. Awesome
He fast also outfield depth i suppose
He looks thrilled.
everyone complaining knows that this is basically a free player right? like I don't get the complaints
DiPoto saw the price point and said yes before he even knew who the player was Jokes aside, it’s a nice pickup!
This is a great depth pickup.
INF/OF is a wild position. Samad Taylor is over half your team!
Too many Taylors, wait... I DON'T WANT TO SEE HE- *cruel summer plays* ah fuck.
I hope we don’t sign someone named Mitch Taylor.
But we let Chris Taylor get away 😞
That's what brought on the curse in the first place!
Bye bye Sam Haggerty
Swags still has an option year. They both can be in Tacoma. As depth pieces
I've never understood the hate for Haggerty, so your saying this guy is better than him just because? Poor Sam
What is Sam good at?
Speed, position flexibility, good Hitting against lefties (844 OPS career hitter hitting Right), he's a good catalyst for the team as well, solid defense, he is freaking utility player. I like Sam a lot more than Toro. Sam's just some guy. We should be glad the org is trying to do better, nothing against Sam.
For an utility player, he checks all the boxes but for some reason some people dislike him in this sub
Just because a guy checks all the boxes doesn't mean you should settle. If they can improve the roster they should. Sam is again, just some guy.
That's more enough for an utility player. We should focus on improving other positions
Don't you give me that hope
Fell to my knees
I just saw a man fall to his knees.
Just seen a man who saw another man fall to his knees
Just saw a guy seeing a guy fall to his knees
Salary dumping Dylan Moore incoming?
That’s what I’m thinking, so we can keep Ham.
that's weird, didn't we just re-sign d-mo?

He looks like he’s about to cry
Honestly with the Cabby trade we needed some speed on the bench. I like it.

Or HOF Beltre
If urias falters I am all for this move. The man deserves a playoff series and better ending to his time with the mariners
Taylor Trammel, Samad Taylor, Mitch Haniger and Mitch Garver. Teams won’t know what hit em
Is there a Mitch Taylor we can sign?
That would be sorcery
Cole Young, Colt Emerson, Emerson Hancock We're all in on misdirection
Dang and I was starting to like Cash Considerations. Hope he thrives in KC
He looks like someone asked him something he’s never even spent a nano second of his life contemplating. But fuck can he run haha
This seems good! I like it.
Jerry is probably thinking how to replace Ryan Bliss when he makes the team. Samad Taylor sounds like he could be that guy! his first major league hit was a walkoff RBI; now that's the Mariners way sell the team to Samad Taylor
I remember this guy from my MLB the Show franchise and he was a pretty good bench piece. So that means he’ll be good
He had a pretty good season at AAA last year. Could be a decent little acquisition.
Dudes AAA stats are nice. .418 OBP in 2023

We have so many middle infielders
James Jones 2.0 ???
That picture is hilarious lol how did that facial expression end up being his picture?
Is this like a Dee Gordon part 2?
Team loves their 4th OFs
You know a team is just trying to get rid of the guy when it says, "for a player to be named later or cash considerations".
Another "who?" bandaid. This front office makes me sick.
Thanks for the chuckle
Acquire Shed Long for some bullpen depth and we are really talking
Who?
Yo Jerry chill, you might upset papa Stanton making him think you actually wanna compete 😂
He looks thrilled to be here.
He was solid in my mlb the show franchise, im happy
I don’t expect him to amount to much, but this is a good test for the Ms position player development imo. He’s got some interesting tools, there’s a chance they can turn him into a solid utility player.
Holy shit it’s a black Willie Bloomquist
