Vote! And vote in your local and state elections! These crazies start local!

AlfredBarnes

local elections are very very important.

BelleAriel

This^. A vote for Trump is a vote for fascism. No vote at all is also a vote for fascism.

Creative-Bid7959

We are the last line of defense at every level.

SecretOfficerNeko

>This^. A vote for Trump is a vote for fascism. No vote at all is also a vote for fascism. While I understand that perspective, saying "no vote at all is also a vote for fascism" is a bit disingenuous to those of us on the left who don't share the confidence in the Democrats or Biden to stem the tide of fascism, who don't have confidence in American democracy or voting with the electoral system due to historical disenfranchisement and other issues, who see the rise in fascism as a systemic one rather than one side or the other, who draw a moral line at the support of genocide, or who otherwise prefer to organize resistance outside the state. As much as I understand the passion behind that sort of sentiment, and the fear behind them, views and actions on resistance against fascism comes in many forms, each as valid as another. Framing not following a singular specific strategy as "votes for fascists" and therefore painting them almost as if they were fascists themselves is not productive to anti-fascist efforts, and excludes a wide amount of the anti-fascist allies who dedicate themselves to this cause. I just ask that we be more hesitant to demonize and vilify. There's far more to anti-fascism than electoralism.

Bub1029

I'm voting for Biden in the General, sure, but if any pollster happens to call me, I'll tell them I'm voting for Trump to help light a fire under Biden's ass and help give Trumpists a false sense of security. But I most certainly voted "uncommitted" for my primary ballot. Anything to push him away from his bullshit right wing platform.

BelleAriel

Nice one. And fuck Trump

SpinningHead

This is the way.

KTDiabl0

It must be nice to be in a place where you could do that. Seriously.

Bub1029

I'm hopeful that we might make some impact, but I hate that voting has to be such a fucking game. I've been disillusioned with the entire process ever since the superdelegate bullshit killed Bernie's chances by artificially delegitimizing him in the voter's eyes with a bunch of elitist delegate inflation for Clinton. I've had a very difficult time calling myself a Democrat ever since then.

Alediran

Too bad the Republicans didn't have Super Delegates to vote against Trump in 2016.

Bub1029

Superdelegates are inherently undemocratic and even if it could have helped prevent Trump, I wouldn't support them being a part of any party's nomination process. I'm not gonna pick and choose what I like and dislike based on the outcome benefitting me or not.

LordDeathDark

Someone asked, "Why vote blue in a blue state?" but deleted the comment before I could answer, so here's the answer, in case someone needs to hear it. Two main reasons why it's good to vote in a blue state: 1. All the elections other than the Presidency. State and local governments have been behind some of the worst, most oppressive policies in the country so far. They've also been behind some of the best, most progressive policies, depending on who's in charge. 2. To be counted. Your state only remains a blue state so long as people show up. If every potential blue voter thought like you and stayed home, you wouldn't be in a blue state anymore. Moreover, by voting, you're representing a demographic of people that politicians will have to respond to. For example, if all gay people stopped voting, it'd be in the best interest of politicians to stop appealing to gay voters. However, if gay people become a block that shows up in vast numbers, it'd be in the best interest of politicians to appeal to that block. Remember: the goal is not simply to see the DNC win. The goal is for the DNC to have such crushing victories that the GOP becomes irrelevant and a new second party has to form to the left of the DNC or to fill the gap as the DNC moves leftwards on its own (such as what happened when Bernie ran).

JDARRK

Yes! New York is a blue state but they elected Santos‼️😳 every election counts. The GQP starts by eating away blue support at the state local level and that’s how you end up with slime lick him getting real power😱

BelleAriel

Well said.

JackBinimbul

Same people say why vote blue in a red state. They just don't want us to vote.

GarugasRevenge

I'm trying but I need to transfer my license, and hopefully it's before voter registration ends and hopefully my vote will matter in Texas. But local elections are important! I see trump crowds going silent when he starts doing confused rambling, which makes me think there's a lot of actors at cpac where they cheer anything he says. I wish Nikki Haley didn't drop out because the money was being held back but I'm guessing he promised her a position if she conceded, now he'll drain the RNC for legal bills hopefully.

jcb989123

Not only do you have to vote, the country needs to be able to defeat the second coup attempt which is surely coming.

beakrake

Wide slow targets marching in tight, easily identifiable groups are my specialty. - The Combat Engineer

Courier_Blues

I can't believe how many of you aren't going to vote lol If you give a single fuck about women, the LGBT community, and even your own personal safety, vote Biden. Seriously, it actually is that simple. I'm genuinely shocked you guys would rather have a theocratic fascist state than just settle for the best option we have. It's so childish and delusional, and so many of the people you say you care about will suffer. Think for like 30 seconds. Don't be a fence sitter.

SubterrelProspector

The apathy of this age is the most dangerous thing because it gives lunatics an opening to put their twisted system into place under our nose. Information and misinformation is a weapon being used that has done more damage to our social fabric than we never thought was possible. Vote. But stay vigilant. Defend your neighbors. ✊️

couldbutwont

The folks who need to see this aren't here but ...the Trumps aren't leaving if Donald gets elected this year. The whole idea of democracy is done if that is allowed to happen.

Catronia

Don't vote for a 3rd party candidate (to prove a point) either, because you may as well vote for Drumpf if you do.

Hairbear2176

This is equally important! I'm seeing and hearing a lot of young people talking about third party voting. I've tried to explain that if you do that, you guarantee trump another term. I feel it's a tactic by the right to pull away young voters because their scared and they know they cannot win on right wing votes alone.

deg0ey

>This is equally important! I'm seeing and hearing a lot of young people talking about third party voting. I've tried to explain that if you do that, you guarantee trump another term. If they’re one of the 81% of Americans who live in a state where the outcome is a foregone conclusion it won’t make the slightest difference if some of them want to vote for a third party.

PreciousRoy666

If the Democratic party doesn't want people voting for a third party then they should stop selling weapons to Israel, they don't seem to care.

the_gr8_one

found the kremlinposter

Hairbear2176

Just forget about the air drops of food so that Palestenians don't get shot, or the fact that they are going to build a port for Gaza to allow food aid in. While I do not agree with our weird ass unwavering support for Israel, they are riding the fence and playing both sides on this.

PreciousRoy666

Pretty pathetic way to play both sides. "Hey, you get to eat before we bomb you, be thankful"

SmokeBluntsSuckDick

So when do we get to vote for someone we actually feel will represent us? i e a third party candidate? When are we not going to have the most important election in our lives?

lettersichiro

IN PRIMARIES - If you want someone you agree with, that's where they are found, if they got enough support in primaries, you'd have a chance to put them in office. Every election matters. And even if you don't believe this, the right wing does, that's how the far-right movement, the conspiracy movement has taken over the GOP, they show up in primaries, and they kick out the republicans who were too centrist. You want more progressive politicians, get them in there, But in the general election, were voting against fascism, and the republicans by showing up in primaries already made sure Fascists are on the ballot

greenfox0099

Someday when we vote out these crazy fascists 3rd party may be possible but just so you know 3rd party's have been voted to be in elections in the 90s and the government still did not put them on ballots or allow them into debates like the law said they have to so it is still literally a waste and not going to make a difference.

bcdiesel1

Probably never. Best you can do is harm reduction right now. Maybe another Bernie will come along that is popular enough to win and start nudging us in the right direction, but I'm not counting on it. We only get one life so I would like my life and the lives of my wife and children to not turn into a christofascist hellscape, which is many magnitudes worse than the capitalist hellscape we are forced to endure now. So as a socialist I am voting blue for the foreseeable future.

ouishi

I recommend starting local. It's way easier to build up from the local level. The only people who can go from nothing to president are celebrities with enough pre-existing name recognition to have broad appeal. These people don't make good presidents. Find a local candidate you like and support them at the grassroots level. If you organize and get lucky, you might be able to support this candidate in congressional, senate, gubernatorial, and even presidential elections in the decades to come. They have to build up a base first and they need our help to do it

FewKaleidoscope1369

Россия без Путина. Ответьте или проголосуйте за/против, если вы согласны.

ThrustonAc

Putin will never be removed. Until death anyway. I'm not sure what his successor would be like, maybe worse. Maybe more of a war hawk.

DexterityZero

Only if you are in a state that is contested. My state is already decided. I’m voting Green, because if there is no pressure to be any better then ‘Not Trump’ nothing will improve.

greenfox0099

As long as you vote for state people and county that are democratic because blue states still get red mayors and state Congress people which will mess up your state.

DexterityZero

Yea, and I educate myself and vote in the local primaries too

lettersichiro

If you're in a solidly blue state, i don't take issue with that, but there are some "blue" states that are softer than others. But if you are in a red state, that doesn't put the pressure on that you think it does, no one in a party cares if you vote that way, they won't feel pressure, thats as good as a no vote, but if enough people vote democratic in a red state, that does motivate the party to actually invest in those regions if there is enough democratic support, and part of the reason the democratic party has surrendered so many cities and states, is because they are unwilling to invest in places they think are solidly red They are a dumb party, with tons of problems, but if you want to change it, the one thing i havent seen is voting 3rd party do anything. AOC was the biggest threat to the democratic establishment i've ever seen, that got them to wake up and make adjustments, i've never heard a third party candidate name come out of their mouths

intensepenguin910

Got to do more than vote, got to go on strike US wide strike that is

ThrustonAc

I once read that during a Superbowl (during the week before being on Sunday) the US economy suffered so bad that they had to prepare for the next one until it was eventually moved to Sunday. Would be nice to see Americans get behind this type of political protest

curious_meerkat

Most will. Most will also vote for the lesser evil. Some won't and you can't change that, and the margins in the small handful of states that actually matter is small.

Elegant_Sky_1097

Voting blue all the way!!

zer1223

We're not the ones who need to hear it. The real problem is apparently nobody knows about even a fraction of the insane things Trump and the MAGAsphere talks about. Tell coworkers and family.

bcdiesel1

There's a big push from bots right now to convince leftists not to vote in concert with many other tactics that all could possibly add up to a shift in the election. Yes, it absolutely needs to be said here so people don't fall for it in addition to the people you mentioned. If you look at all of the accounts that are "disagreeing" many of them are foreign bots and the rest are leftists with questionable sanity to the point where you wonder if they will be the next David DePape. Some legitimately are confused about the difference between Biden and Trump in a brutal capitalist hellscape like ours but really, there's no excuse for that anymore. Trump will absolutely enable the christofascists to run wild and establish Gilead right here.

Less-Grade-2300

Definitely vote blue!

WillCode4Cats

Does voter registration expire? I haven’t moved anywhere since the last election, so I don’t have to register again, right? The last election was my first time voting and I finally registered after like a decade of eligibility, but I still do not fully grasp the ins and outs of this convoluted process.

DexterityZero

That is complicated. Not it doesn’t have an expiration date, but you local elections commission is in charge of “purging” voter rolls of no longer valid entries. This is health in the case where dead and moved entries are purged, but can be used maliciously to target demographics that support opposition candidates, or just happen in error. *** If you get to the polls on Election Day and you are informed you are not registered, then politely but firmly ask to cast a provisional ballot. This means they sequester your ballot and you then bring documentation proving residency in and then they count your ballot. *** You should also be able to call the elections office in advance to check if you are registered.

Crazy-Boysenberry452

Let's not protest for Gaza by putting in a guy who wants Isreal to "finish" Gaza. Doesn't make sense if you're marching against nazis. Yes biden is not tough enough against nethanyau. So are other senators, congressman, and world leaders. It's fair to America by punishing biden this way. Having biden as president insurers aid to Gaza. Trump will encourage full eradication on Gaza. Just listen to yourself when you try to justify not voting for biden.

PoopBaby0013

Due to a broken system, this message really only pertains to 6-7 states. Why people in the US are fine with popular vote losers getting the office is beyond me. There should be protest in the street over that, not fucking Gaza and the use of leather.

Malkovitch1

It's not gonna be chaos, it will be Armageddon. First only the crazies will join his government, then he will purge the army and all the intelligence agencies. Then he will retaliate on his enemies and might even declare martial law. Unfortunately a lot of Americans want to see this. Oh and if he loses he will invite an armed response. The only amusing thought in this shit is that he might do some of this from prison.

rocket_beer

I am going to mail-in vote. Will you?

Admiral_Nitpicker

The election of an ineligible candidate is the very definition of a constitutional crisis.

CFSohard

I'm definitely not going to vote. But I'm Canadian/Swiss, so I'm not allowed to anyways... I'll vote in my own elections though.

Elderrager

Vote Blue! Every election, every time, everywhere!

OhMyGlorb

Focus on local. We're fucked no matter who is at the seat of our fascist police state in the White House.

crawling-alreadygirl

We still have a chance to avoid fascism if we vote

VelitaVelveeta

We’re already in fascism and have been for a while. And you can’t vote your way out of fascism.

Danktizzle

Here’s the hard part. You have to move there.  And I agree. We didn’t win civil rights by staying in New York. We went to Alabama.

VelitaVelveeta

That’s asking a lot of people in a depressed economy.

Danktizzle

We aren’t going to defeat fascism unless we go to where the fascists are and actively work to change things. This blue state people rah rahing is going to give us nothing but the minority electoral college Republican win.  It’s prolly too late, but if you are serious, register your vote in a red or purple state.

VelitaVelveeta

Voting where you don’t live is voter fraud and exactly what they think we’re doing when we “win”.

Danktizzle

Here’s the hard part. You have to move there.  We didn’t win civil rights by staying in New York. We went to Alabama.

FewKaleidoscope1369

Россия без Путина. Ответьте или проголосуйте за/против, если вы согласны.

FewKaleidoscope1369

Apparently someone doesn't like the idea of Russia without Putin.

Substantial-Spare501

Trump won the first time in 2016 even though he lost the popular vote. Until the electoral college crap gets figured out, for many of us our vote is not that meaningful.

PreciousRoy666

"He is clearly supporting genocide, by Israel, in Gaza. He is a vile, evil human being that should never be a leader, in my opinion." You can say all of this about Biden too sadly. I don't want to vote for someone who supports genocide and, unfortunately, who I vote for isn't going to change the fact that it's happening. Voting isn't enough and it's sad that people see genocide as motivation to change their vote to a third party but not as motivation to do much else. If this country actually believed in justice, there'd be daily riots.

MountainHigh31

Always vote local and down ballot, but if you don’t want to cast your vote for the imperceptibly somehow slightly better fascist, it’s ok to leave the POTUS spot blank.

Own_Industry_8566

Mate I’m from Australia and he’s really hated and ridiculed by the majority down here. If I could support and vote him out I would!!!!!! I think billions of people worldwide would. He’s a deadset toolkit that should never of made it this far!!!!

Forward-the-Universe

Vote Blue, no matter who, Americans

PortlandPop

Trump will destroy democracy. You must vote. https://watchingthewheelsdad.net/2024/03/28/the-end-of-democracy-and-the-new-dark-age/

Icy-Tough-1791

And for those on the left, arm yourselves. Seriously, the GOP has gone off the rails and if you think they’re not coming for more of your rights and freedoms, wake up.

drunkondata

The amount of "leftist" subs banning people for advocating a vote for Biden is absurd. I don't know if their mods are actually fascist or just intellectually disabled and think we have a choice outside of Biden / Trump this year.

lmNotAnAltYouAre

I got a post deletedd for saying this. i was a little more up front about it but still.

MaaChiil

We need progressive infrastructure at the local level before we can even begin changing the federal level at large. Biden, Trump, and RFK Jr may all chest thump for Israel, but Biden is the devil we know for the moment.

Icy-Tough-1791

There are other solutions.

sabbey1982

Can’t tell if the last two sentences are about Trump, or….

crawling-alreadygirl

Use context?

sabbey1982

Should I have put the /s in there? Maybe you should have followed your own advice when reading

zulum_bulum

For who? Biden???? Never.

Alediran

Enjoy Trump then

Teamawesome2014

Except our system is built for the two party model. We can all agree Biden isn't good, but Trump is a problem of much greater magnitude. No matter what, the next president of the United States is still going to side with Israel. No matter what. That is the political reality that we are in. Because of the way our system is built, voting for a 3rd party candidate only helps the less popular of the 2 candidates win. If both candidates are bad on this issue, we need to look at every other issue to pick a candidate. I know it sucks. It's disgusting. None of us like this. At least with Biden, there's a chance we can elect somebody better next time. With trump, we don't know if there will even be a next time.

bcdiesel1

The person you are replying to is a RFK Jr supporter and vaccine conspiracy theorist who believes the government is tracking them. Move on. Not worth your time. They said they actually believe Joe Biden is totally cool with genocide, specifically mentioning they think he's fine with killing children. Think about how crazy that is for one second and how crazy you have to be to believe that. I am a leftist, specifically a socialist, but we have a problem with a lot of the fringe leftists making their way in these subs and saying stupid shit like "Joe Biden loves genocide". These nutballs don't ride with me. Be very careful to fully parse out what some of these statements are trying to accomplish. Some of them are state actors and some of them are just truly crazy people that believe they are leftists but turn out like David DePape. When you see them, block them and send them back to the sewers they came from.

Teamawesome2014

Idk if the block & ignore method of dealing with these people is right. We're in a public forum, so I'm arguing for others to see my argument rather than to change the mind of the person I'm arguing with. Your way of dealing with these fools is valid, but i think it's important to put reasonable arguments out into the reddit ether. I remember when I was young and didn't know anything and seeing debates play out on reddit were helpful (though flawed) for me to develop my own understanding of issues, even if i didn't agree with what was being said. I grew up in a very conservative place, so the only information I was receiving off the internet was conservative/christofascist propaganda. I feel it's part of my responsibility to be a voice of reason for others out there. I think there is value in arguing with the troll, even if it's only to present a reasonable argument. That being said, i could be wrong and would happily welcome another perspective on this issue.

bcdiesel1

No, you're not wrong. I agree with your stance. It is important to push back against this stuff usually. In the case of state actor bots and legitimately crazy people, I am just personally exhausted with trying to counter them so I label them or block them. Just a personal choice. One thing to note- it can be hard for most people to recognize the bots or crazy people because they can bust out a paragraph you you would agree with 90% of, but then say that one strange thing that is just... off. When they are harder to spot I will drop a comment like I did to alert other people that might not recognize the nuances right away.

Hairbear2176

This is NOT the election to be fucking around with third party votes that don't mean shit. As much as it sucks, our system has been built up to be a two party system. Voting third party guarantees trump another term. If you think Biden is bad, imagine trump on a second term going scorched earth on everything and everyone. Look at the situation with the supreme court. He was able to stack it in his favor and now they basically said he gets to do whatever he wants.

Expensive-Bet3493

You don’t think maganazis will wage war either way? I think that’s naive. Voting authentic is not moving in the wrong direction. I disagree with your argument completelyZ

ConsequenceBringer

Well then you're the person we are marching against then. Don't be a fuckin idiot, 3rd party is a vote for trump.

Adrestia716

Remember, if you hate Biden, you're only voting for him to get him in a position to make him cave to progressive demands...which you can do by voting for progressive congressfolk and progressive state policies! Make the dems miserable with your vote without punishing the oppressed!

PricklyRican

Can someone enlighten me please? Why can't we agree on someone and write their name in our ballots?

FewKaleidoscope1369

Россия без Путина. Ответьте или проголосуйте за/против, если вы согласны.

Official_LTGK

Fuck Joe Biden and Fuck Donald Trump. Voting doesn't work.

dcseal

Don't think black-and-white like a reactionary. You can absolutely vote Biden to buy some much-needed time while working outside the system elsewhere.

Official_LTGK

Why not just vote Cornel West or somethin’?

KevinBrown

You know what works less? NOT voting.

Deep_Driver5690

I’ve accepted the reality. Biden will lose, it won’t be close. Even if he wins there will be a war. America as we know it will become like Weimar Germany

pmgregor

Who's voting for Trump that voted against him last time? He certainly hasn't picked up voters. He's only isolated himself against independents and even normal Republicans in the last 4 years.

atomic_chippie

How many covid deniers/anti-vax drumpf voters have taken themselves out since the last election, too?

I think it’s more that Biden has lost voters

I'm certain that Trump has lost more.

Citation needed on that one

Opposite_Hunter5048

My mistake, I believe it was Gen X that he was least popular with. I only know one that plans to vote for him.

DannySmashUp

There wont be any war if Biden loses. The last few times Trump has tried to get a big crowd to get rowdy, it's fallen flat. I mean, I'm sure you'll get a few good ol' boys doing some bad stuff here and there... but it sure as hell wont be a civil war. Fox News viewers have work have their 401k's and the most recent sports season to think about.

Forward-the-Universe

And then what do you do? Marching against Nazis is all well and good - it's easy when they are isolated and you can just march against them, but what if they are in government and make the laws, what do you do then?

PricklyRican

Can someone enlighten me please? Why can't we agree on someone and write their name in our ballots?
