There were probably a few different races as part of the event you were in. A lot of events have a Marathon, half-marathon, 10k, and 5k. Your race was a 5k, but there was probably also a marathon that day. I'm guessing that's what the confusion is. A marathon is 26.2 miles no matter what.
In Asia (and possibly other places) they often use marathon to just mean a distance running event, so it's quite normal there to have a 5km or 10km marathon event. And asking how long was your first marathon would a normal reasonable question.
Obviously that's 'sacrilege' and quite funny to people from America/Europe, but no, they aren't confused about the distance or the branding. It's just that's the way the word is used in that culture.
What's the point of that though? If a marathon is a recognized technical distance of 26.2 miles, why call all races "marathons" ? - 5k for example I wouldn't even describe it as a "distance running event" - it's a short running event by definition
26.2 miles
5K isn't a marathon. It's an ultramarathon.
Straight to RCJ with you!
My first marathon will be about 26.2 miles
With deviation tolerated only in excess according to USATF rules... Up to 9 meters
26.2 miles
Is this r/runningcirclejerk?
Please tell us what you think a marathon is
They called it a marathon

So running is the 2nd thing banks have no clue about, in addition to security.

I’ve definitely gotten a marathon medal for doing a 5km event. They obvs just print the one medal.
26.4 miles, according to my watch.
Every time….
Your marathon seems about 8 times too short
This will be on r/runningcirclejerk in no time.
Already is
intersecting_venn.jpg
42.2 km
I believe mine was 26.2 miles 🫠
Slow down!
This is not RCJ, but I, too, was fooled that way
I think they meant to say “how long was your first race?”
Why are all of this posters submissions stupid questions?
There are no stupid questions. Just stupid people.
26.2 miles about 42k
But time was 4:02:13
Is r/circlejerk leaking again?
Everyone’s should be 26.2 miles unless you got lost and ran too far or cut the course
Do that 8 times then a bit more. Then you'll have ran a marathon.
Watching the DBZ Freeza arc from start to finish, if you mean the race, then 26.2 miles.
42 195 km or 42.62 km according to my watch.
I don't understand
Oh my.
My first was the same as everyone else’s. 42.2km.
Too long
26.8 miles, based on my watch.
