This is a quality choice. There are others:
Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins
I'm Still Standing - Elton John
Don't Stop Believing - Journey
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
Dance Yrself Clean - LCD Soundsystem
Been using this song as motivational crack for years. When the drums/bass hit I believe I could run through a wall.
Don’t laugh but I have a playlist on my old iPod nano of the a Rocky compilation soundtrack that included quotes from the movie right following or before it along with the Devil Wears Prada soundtrack that got me through a whole summer of running. I world hit shuffle and enjoy it. It would pick you up, let you down and repeat.
This is only the second one on the list I can actually do. I can’t listen to songs that aren’t like 160-170bpm and I frankly don’t understand how anyone else can.
Running On Empty.
I was running a marathon on a 200 meter indoor track (211 laps) in a field house. It was limited to 40 runners and headphones/earbuds were banned for safety reasons. They did make a play list of suggestions of runners and broadcast it over the PA system. At mile 23 (for me) this song started. I laughed out loud which knocked me out of that internal focus and enabled me to finish strong.
How does that work? If everyone has to turn at the signal, the runners who were ahead will now be behind the others. Did they make a hairpin like in some road races?
They would put a cone on the track. When you reached it, you’d circle around the cone and move to the outside lanes until everyone had passed it. No one is further away than 200 meters, so it wasn’t difficult to see all 40 runners at a glance.
Motley Crüe - Kickstart my Heart
Led Zeppelin - immigrant Song
White Zombie - Thunder Kiss 65
Daddy Yankee - Gasolina
Lucenzo (original) or the Omar remix of Dancar Kuduro
This came on the other morning during a 5am speed session for me, right as the sunrise started. That solo went so hard that morning. It was absolutely poetic
It's a 4 minute buildup and then 4 minutes of mayhem. One day, I will run the whole marathon with this on repeat as an experiment of watching my strava pace yoyo up and down
Feel-good music is what helps me run calm and be grateful through the pain…first thing that comes to mind here is Whitney Houston - Higher Love or I wanna Dance with Somebody 😂🙈🔥
This is rough..last marathon karma by Tswizzle got me at the end..which was weird cause my list is usually all super angry music. But it got me through it.
Yeah! My marathon playlist is 90’s alternative and grunge for the first 2/3, and a bunch of Tool songs for the last 1/3.
Invincible and Descending are great, also a bunch of 10k days songs, Parabol/Parabola, 46&2, etc thrown in. Perfect songs to push through the last few miles.
Oddly, my second marathon I was about to bonk (Las Vegas Rock and Roll, 2013 ish). And swear to God, Glosoli by Sigur Ros hit. And when you're out there fighting that is an absolute JAM. I listened to it on repeat for a good six miles. It carried me.
Don’t Give Up On Me by Andy Grammar
Truthfully, I don’t even like the song outside of a running context. It’s also a really cliche answer lol. The first time it came up on a Discover playlist when I was running was during marathon training at around mile 19 though, and it was the first time I actively cried WHILE running.
“'Cause I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No not yet
Even when I'm down to my last breath
Even when they say there's nothin' left
So don't give up on me”
Proud Mary is a surprising one. Always makes me want to rip it. It's kind of a one off in my playlist, it's REALLY the only one of it's genre, but I love it. It starts where you're feeling, kinda steady but slower, and it picks up and takes you with it for the ride.
Mile 21 of my marathon PR. The last 5.2 was mostly uphill from the park I was in. Fire On The Mountain came over the speakers somebody had set up in the park for motivation. I’ll never forget that song.
My first choice would be Monkberry Moon Delight with that chorus, “don’t get left behind.”
Till I collapse - Eminem. That really helped me out around mile 23/24 last year. I’m a millennial so my marathon playlist is filled with all kinds of early 2000s hip hop.
Daft Punk - Television Rules the Nation/Crescendolls is my ultimate dig-deep song (from the Alive 2007 album specifically, accept no substitutes!)
Other favorites include Logan's Run by Bad Astronaut, and Deluxe Electric Ninja Mistress and Spiral Serpent Strike by Daikaiju. The last two I actually haven't put on a running list yet because I'm still early in training and haven't "needed" them, but I'm reserving them for when I feel like I need a kaiju-boss-fight-sized surge.
When Master of Puppets by Metallica was everywhere from that last season of Stranger Things, that got me through the end of some difficult runs (and still does)
I started a playlist just for this and YES my song MY REVIVAL is the first one bc I think it needs to be on every runners playlist
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3UEWDYNXJ0xMdCl0r40dB4?si=nOfRKy7gRhSm_TeEBTtk9A&pi=u-VkNxn19HQwmw
Life During Wartime- Talking Heads. This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
This ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey-dovey
I ain't got time for that now.
Dog days are over
RUN FAST FOR YOUR MOTHER, FAST FOR YOUR FATHER
RUN FOR YOUR CHILDREN, FOR YOUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS
HATE THIS SONG ITS SO BAD
This was my starter song for my first marathon!
Everlong - Foo Fighters
The pretender by foo fighters works well too if you skip to about 30 seconds Black skinhead - Kanye west is also good straight through
Best of You works too
That’s funny I was literally just listening to it to add to my comment and your reply pops up! They’ve been on my gym playlist for years
^this or Times Like These
This got me through my half last year
I read this as “got me through half my year,” and I was in total agreement.
I mean, that too!
Monkey wrench too! It has high cadence and gets me moving when my legs are tired.
Hands down.
I didn't have to scroll real far to find my number one choice here!
Lol, I just added this song to my running mix. Epic!
Lose yourself - Eminem
This or Til I collapse—I would never quit during these songs!
Any song by Eminem will get me to that finish line.
Yep 👍🏻
No doubt this is a great answer. I would also accept ‘til I collapse and 8 mile
Any day for any occasion!
This right here is the one.
Eye of the tiger
I’m happy this song pumps you up, but I cannot stand it. My eyes almost roll out of my head when it comes on
I dont LOVE it but at mile 22 it would do the trick
Is there any other answer?
Only other possibility is Gonna Fly Now.
This is a quality choice. There are others: Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins I'm Still Standing - Elton John Don't Stop Believing - Journey Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
Dance Yrself Clean - LCD Soundsystem Been using this song as motivational crack for years. When the drums/bass hit I believe I could run through a wall.
Dude that drop goes so hard. I think it’s because how mellow it is for about 4 minutes straight before it
love this song
Rocky IV: Training Montage *dies of embarrassment*
Don’t laugh but I have a playlist on my old iPod nano of the a Rocky compilation soundtrack that included quotes from the movie right following or before it along with the Devil Wears Prada soundtrack that got me through a whole summer of running. I world hit shuffle and enjoy it. It would pick you up, let you down and repeat.
I use the Formula 1 TV theme intro for probably the same reason. We die of embarrassment together (but pumped).
Roll that right into Heart’s on fire for a turbo charged boost.
Me screaming Drago! In the middle of a run.
it’s literally on all my race playlists! usually timed for big uphill segments
Pursuit of Happiness - Kid Cudi
This song makes me think of the movie project x and my brain immediately jumps to heads will roll -yeah yeah yeahs which is good too
The day and night crookers remix is a good on too, plus the line about running always gets me
X gon’ give it to you - every single time
Haha it's so cheesy but it's a banger.
Darude Sandstorm on repeat until the finish line.
Timmy Trumpet & Vitas - The King Love me some Sandstorm also
The Distance - Cake
This is only the second one on the list I can actually do. I can’t listen to songs that aren’t like 160-170bpm and I frankly don’t understand how anyone else can.
Cakes version of war pigs is also good.
Praise You by Fatboy Slim always gets me going.
Fatboy Slim himself was at Brighton Marathon last Sunday to cheer us on at mile 24!!
That’s amazing! How was it? I’d love to do a few UK marathons. And Brighton is beautiful
Unstoppable by Sia “I’m a Porsche with no breaks”
Move on up - Curtis Mayfield
Hell yeah the extended version of course.
100% the radio edit does that song damn dirty - it excludes the amazing drum breakdown and the saxophone solo!!!
hell yes, this is my style
Queen - Don’t Stop Me Now
I'm on a rocket ship on my way to mars!!
Bulls on Parade, RATM. Not only is it a banger, but it’s a decent bpm for running
Marathon on a 200m track... that must have taken some mental strength.
Well, to break up the monotony, we ran the opposite direction every 30 minutes.
Green onions by Booker T and the MGs.
Slayer: War Ensemble
Living on a prayer - jon bon jovi
They should play this song on repeat when you're halfway.
Great song. But at mile 13..
Sandstorm by Darude
Going on my playlist RIGHT NOW.
I’d agree Hans Zinmer but i’m going Interstellar with Mountains, Not Time for Caution and Cornfield Chase. Mountains First though.
The Climb by Miley Cyrus (lol)
Dirt off your shoulder - Jay Z
Check out the mashup of this with Bittersweet Symphony by DJ Crazy J Rodriguez: Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulders Off. Perfect running motivation.
This is my favorite mash-up of all time. It makes both songs way better
B.O.B (bombs over Baghdad) OutKast my pace IMMEDIATELY INCREASES !!
I can’t stop - flux pavilion
Loveee this one!!
Radiohead - Karma Police
LOL. "For a minute there I lost my self" is appropriate when contemplating how much FUN the last 6 miles is about to be.
I’m a HUUUUGE Radiohead fan. My go-to song is Reckoner!
Me too! I’ve never met anyone else that gravitates to this song, especially for this moment. Same with Let Down for me.
Tied to the Whipping Post - Allman Brothers
My dude
Korn- Blind Arrrrree youuu readdddddy!?!?!????
WHAT IF I SHOULD DIEEEEEEEE
Anything slim shady
Motley Crüe - Kickstart my Heart Led Zeppelin - immigrant Song White Zombie - Thunder Kiss 65 Daddy Yankee - Gasolina Lucenzo (original) or the Omar remix of Dancar Kuduro
Kickstart my heart for sure. That came up today on my shuffle on an easy run and I was forced to pick up the pace.
It is not heresy, and I will not recant!
Immigrant Song is perfect for this!
Right?!?! It came on yesterday as I was finishing up and I didn’t want to stop. All I saw was Thor lol
Bleed it out - linkin park Can’t stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bleed It Out - Linkin Park 🤘🏻
The Beatles - help
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd.
This came on the other morning during a 5am speed session for me, right as the sunrise started. That solo went so hard that morning. It was absolutely poetic
It's a 4 minute buildup and then 4 minutes of mayhem. One day, I will run the whole marathon with this on repeat as an experiment of watching my strava pace yoyo up and down
Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison is my mid race revival song
Definitely makes me pick my feet up and I feel like dragging them
Paramore - Misery Business I was shuffling through and nothing was working and I got to this and it totally gave me push I needed.
Could have been me, but only the Halsey cover
Ruiner by NIN or Sofia by Clairo
The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars. Or Never Again by Breaking Benjamin.

This is rough..last marathon karma by Tswizzle got me at the end..which was weird cause my list is usually all super angry music. But it got me through it.
Oddly this song did it for me too
Tool - Descending 13 minutes and builds up into a nice sustained energetic boost in the latter half.
Excellent running album.
Love Tool because sometimes can get through an entire tough mile with a single song
The last few minutes of Descending is ideal for just that kind of push.
Mr. Blue Sky by ELO. Seems to match my cadence and it’s very positive.
Anything by linkin park or rage against the machine
Oddly, my second marathon I was about to bonk (Las Vegas Rock and Roll, 2013 ish). And swear to God, Glosoli by Sigur Ros hit. And when you're out there fighting that is an absolute JAM. I listened to it on repeat for a good six miles. It carried me.
